Star Ocean:
Transcending Time and Space

Authors Notes~~~
Okay I know I've been gone for a while, and to those who stuck it out for my last story I really thank all of you. Now as you all now my last story followed the Star Ocean crew. The reason for that is there one of my all time favorite groups. This story is also going to follow the group, but I think that in my absence I have gotten a tiny bit better at writing and I aim to prove it to all of you. Now as everyone knows; I don't own any of the show, games, or books that these characters come out of. I don't own any of the characters except for Artemis and Oblivion, and yes the other two aren't going to make an appearance in this one I don't think. I hope you all are ready for a thrilling and hopefully enjoyable story, because it starts now.

Chapter 1

I
t was mid day on Elicoor II when Fayt landed silently outside the Aquaria Royal Castle where everyone was waiting for him inside, or to for the universe to end at the hands of Oblivion if he had beaten Fayt.
“Now what should we do to get there attention?” Fayt asked Oblivion with a sly grin spreading across his face as he turned back into his human from, although now he sported a light leather jacket with a pair of blue jeans and his hair was combed back instead of just spiked down.
Why don't you just set off a small explosion to rock the place? Oblivion replied from deep inside Fayts' mind.
“That's actually a pretty decent idea,” Fayt said as he rubbed his chin, “This should be good enough.”
In his hand he formed a condensed ball of simmering white light about the size of his palm, which he then let float lazily up into the air. As the ball got higher it started to shine brightly, and as soon as it was a good story above the castle it exploded with a force that it shook the whole castle. Now as Fayt stood there staring at the entrance waiting for a couple of minutes when the castle guards charged out with there bows ready and fixed on Fayt who at seeing this instinctively formed his sword. By now the guards had recognized Fayt, and decided to lower there weapons before he attacked.
“Hey my friends are in there, right?” Fayt asked as he put his sword away.
“Yes Lord Fayt your friends all await you inside the throne room.” One of the soldiers said rather quickly.
“Thanks guys,” Fayt said as he floated into the air and threw one of the open windows. The castle itself seemed baron on the inside; of course most of the royal guards were probably outside. There was no sound except of that of the rushing water as Fayt entered the castle. It was as if all the people had abandoned it. As Fayt walked his footsteps echoed threw out the halls, until he came to the two large doors that marked the entrance to the throne room.
Calm down Fayt or you'll have a meltdown,Oblivion said as Fayt placed his hands on the doors before opened the doors wide. As soon as the doors opened wide enough for a person to come threw a laser beam singed a couple of Fayts hairs. Instinctively he ducked behind the door and once more pulled his sword to the ready for the fool that would stand between him and his friends. He took a deep breath then dashed from behind the door, head down and sword extended he moved into the room with lightning quick speed, then he saw it was Maria who had shot at him. While that alone was enough to slow his attack there was the fact that Cliff had gotten behind him and put him in a strangle hold, so Fayt was pretty tied up until everyone else realized it was Fayt.
“Oh hey Fayt, we didn't think you'd be back that quickly,” Cliff said as he released Fayt.
“You all thought I was dead didn't you?” Fayt said with a smirk.
“Well duh, you went to fight a black shadowy creature with no emotions and just about limitless power,” Nel said running up to him and jumping in his arms.
“Well I'm glad you were all worried that I was in the fight of my life,” Fayt said kissing Nel.
“Who the hell said we were worried,” Albel said from the back of the throne room leaning against a pillar.
“I guess I was just being optimistic,” Fayt said with a tilt of his head with a smile that only got a snort form Albel.
So what have you told them? Fayt shot over to Artemis.
It wasn't my place to say anything the others wanted to but we never told them anything, Artemis replied.
“Hey Nel, come with me for just a few minutes,” Fayt said as he pulled her towards the back balcony.
“What is it Fayt?” She asked letting him pull her forward.
“Close your eyes. I've got a surprise for you,” He replied. “Okay now stand here and when I say to, open your eyes.” Now they were standing on the balcony and Fayt positioned Nel right in front of the railing. He gave her a soft kiss on the cheek and jumped over the rail.
“Now!” He shouted just so she could see the top of his head fall below the rail.
“Fayt!!!” She cried in surprise as she rushed towards the railing.
“I'm behind you,” He said softly from the doorway making her visible jump from surprise.
“Fayt is that really you?” She asked taking a step towards him the question was really asked because Fayt was now a glowing white figure made of power in its' purest from.
“It is most defiantly, without a doubt me. At least I hope it's me since if it isn't me than you wouldn't be you,” He said brushing a lock of her soft pink hair out of her eyes with a small smile.
“But the others can't interact with normal people when there like this, Can they?” She asked grasping his hand as if he were about to disappear although he was in his ascended form she could tell he was smiling that almost goofy grin of his he smiled whenever he wanted to reassure someone of something.
“I just know how to do things a little better, but I'm not going anywhere so you can stop trying to break my hand,” He said as he kissed her again.
“Well then show me what you can do,” She said as she released his hand.
“I already am,” he said calmly, “look down.”
“Damn it Fayt,” She said as she grabbed a hold of him for all she was worth, most because they were now floating above the balcony with a clear view of the entire town below them.
“I thought you loved the view of this town,” Fayt said with a small, mischievous laugh.
“Only when my feet are on solid ground.”
“What makes you think you're not on solid ground now?”
“Oh I don't know, maybe the fact that were floating in the sky.”
“No, you're flying in the sky with me.”
“And there are little fat gray aliens that eat water.”
“Well there is this one planet that---”
“Don't tell me, I don't want to know about them.”
“Fine, you can open your eyes again,” He said as he sat them back down on the balcony. Of course by now everyone had come to see why Nel had screamed, and had watched the aerial scene. But no one knew exactly what to say to him.
“Well, stop staring at me you all are making me nervous,” Fayt said as he turned invisible.
“Okay, new rule. No one is aloud to turn invisible,” Cliff said as he started to walk slowly around the balcony trying to find Fayt.
“You're standing on my toe,” Fayt said to the side of Cliff were he became visible again.
“Hehe sorry about that,” Cliff said as he removed his foot from atop Fayts' toe.
“So you can fly, set off large explosions, survive without air, and interact with living organisms in your ascended form. Anything else we should know?” Maria asked with her arms folded.
“Well as soon as I know everything I can do I'll let you all know.” Fayt said as he reverted back to a fully clothed human form.
“What do you mean; don't you know all that you can do?” Artemis asked looking at Fayt suspiciously.
“Nope, not a clue as to what I'm really capable of. Except I know I can manipulate things that dwell in both light and darkness.” Fayt said with a tone of such seriousness that wiped the smiles off of every ones face.
“Well, that's a real party killer.” Mirage said as she crossed her arms.
“Anyway,” Fayt said, “how long have I been gone?”
“About a week,” Peppita said sadly.
So time really was at a crawl to us,” Fayt said popping his neck not that anyone but Artemis gave him any notice at that.
“Artemis sent everyone back to there respective homes,” Nel said, “I figured you wondered were they all were?” Sophia said as she leaned on Albels' side.
“Yeah I was a little surprised when they weren't here,” Fayt said looking around. Though he really knew exactly where every one of the people they had met was located, but no one except him knew that and it was going to stay that way for a while.
“So what do you want to do know that your back, and have all that power?” Albel asked eyeing Fayt suspiciously.
“Well I was thinking I could show you all the past. If I remember correctly you all have looked over earth's history, right?” Fayt asked
“Yeah, but so what. You expect us to believe you have the power to go into the past?” Mira asked skeptically.
“Oh I can go into the past, that isn't a problem. It's only a matter of creating a new dimension and advancing it to the point in history we wish to visit,” Fayt said nonchalantly.
“Of course it's so simple. How could I have missed that?” Artemis said questioning himself.
“Yep, so who wants to go where first?” Fayt asked excitedly, after all this was going to be the first time he had ever gotten to be completely in control.
“I hate to be the one who shatters your moment of pure joy, no wait I am happy to do this. You need to go to earth now, as in the present earth,” Albel said abruptly stopping Fayts trip to cloud 9 and beyond.
“Why, what's going on at earth?” Fayt asked quickly.
“Well your parents had a lab in there home, right?” Sophia asked.
“Yeah, so what, a lot of other scientist had labs in there homes also,” Fayt answered.
“Well they left a program running incase Maria, myself, and you were dead, or if we weren't close enough to protect the planet then it was to send a plain to the leader of the federation concerning planetary defensive systems. The plain proposed they create an entire army of super soldiers, it was code named Spartan,” Sophia explained calmly.
“So what's the problem with that,” Fayt asked, “I mean now we don't have to always jump to earth's defense, right?”
“No, none of the scientist can get the project working and we are all outside the range of your parents scanner, plus to make thing worse there is an army of this weird creatures headed for earth,” Maria said. Now the news itself wasn't really a shock since as soon as they told him to go to earth, he looked to see if it was in immediate danger. What shocked him was learning that his parents' project wasn't working and the fact that he already knew how to fix it.
Hey Oblivion, you've been listening I presume? Fayt questioned into his mind.
Of course I have, like I would miss this conversation. Oblivion answered honestly.
Fine, so why do I know all of this stuff, it just keeps leaping into my head?
Because, you have all the knowledge in the universe sitting inside your head you just have to get to it.
And how do I do that.
That's the problem you can only tap into a small part of it since your mind doesn't know how to handle all the information, plus you would probable go insane if it all flooded in at once.
Really? Well if that's the case I think I should go fix the Spartans.
Good idea you'll need some help later.
What the hell does that mean?
I'm still able to see things as well, even from inside here.
Fine, but if I fix it now they'll never dig up the ruins on mars.
So they don't meet on half of the galaxy for a couple of hundred years, big deal they will still collide as it is. Oblivion said ending the conversation that to everyone except Fayt took only a second but still left him wondering what Oblivion knew that he wasn't telling.
“Fine let's go shall we?” Fayt said and with a snap of his fingers then before they knew what had happened they were all standing outside of a plain white two store house, there were four windows and one door.
“Come on in,” Fayt said as he place his hand on a palm reader beside the door that acted as a lock then with a silent speed the door slide open for him.
“Well after you Fayt,” Cliff said as they all stood waiting for Fayt to move.
“Here we go,” Fayt said to himself as he took a deep breath.
“Don't worry so much,” Nel said as she took his hand, “We're right here next to you.” And with that he stepped inside the house that for the first seventeen years of his life had been home. The house that ever since his journey had started he thought he would never have to see again.
“Alright there are a couple of guest rooms, so if you want Sophia can show you were they are I need to look at my parents lab,” Fayt said as he started towards the back of the house.
“I'm coming too Fayt,” Nel said following him. “This place seems kind of empty to me.”
“It is. I mean, we were never home, so it was more of a place were I just slept at night since school kept me away most of the day and mom and dad always worked so the places was usually empty,” Fayt said as they continued to walk until he stopped in front of another door. “Open, authorization Fayt Leingod, last of the Leingod lineage.”
“Authorization accepted, welcome Fayt,” a metallic voice said as the door slid open to reveal a huge lab.
“Wow, this place is amazing,” Nel said staring around the room. “This was your parents' lab, no wonder you're so smart.”
“Well I was never able to come in here, they always said it was off limits until I was ready,” Fayt said walking to the main computer.
“Hello Fayt. If you're listening to this it means that your mother and I are probable dead or unable to tell you this ourselves. You were all we could have hoped for; you were smart, strong, brave, and kind. You always knew how to make friends, and we were always so proud of you. But there is something you should know. For as strong as we made you when we altered you DNA at birth, we knew it would only be able to take you so far and there is one lesson we never told you since you are now watching this,” Fayts' dad said as tears started to form in Fayts' eyes.
“You fool, you both taught me everything,” Fayt said wiping his eyes'.
“And no despite what you probably think we didn't teach you anything really. All we taught you was how to be book smart. You taught yourself about life. But the one thing we always meant to tell you was that without people to help support you; in the end you will loose everything. And without someone that you would sacrifice everything to protect you will never be able to truly become alive and save this universe. I know if you were there when I died then I told you why you were originally altered, but after you were born we later learned of an even greater threat. You however must discover it on your own, but always remember you and your friends must stand together or at the end of the war you will all fall. I know this is very glom and doom, but there is one good thing. That's the fact that we leave everything we have to you. Our beloved son, Fayt. Don't every throw your life away for nothing,” and with that the screen went dead as Robert Leingods' image faded as a single tear ran down Fayts' check.
“You old man I already learned that,” Fayt said as he started to access the computer on anything that might tell him what the last project was suppose to do or be.
“So what are we looking for?” Nel asked as she watched him work.
“I'm not really sure the super powers aren't allowed to tell, and it's because I won't let them.”
“May I ask why you won't let them tell you?”
“Because I want to learn it for myself.”
Your full of shit, you know that. Oblivion laughed as Fayt continued to work.
That's your opinion but I still kicked the shit out of your ass in our fight. Fayt said shutting Oblivion up. It took about two hours for Fayt to hack into his parents protected files then the real shock came to him.
“This is really bad,” Fayt said as he reread the file.
“What is it?” Nel asked from behind him.
“According to my parents files there is an ancient machine race that is suppose to be preparing an invasion of this galaxy. There mission is to whip out all sentient life forms in this galaxy.”
“So can't you just go destroy them?” Nel asked.
“No they don't dwell in light or darkness. While my powers could harm them there are too many of them for me to wipe out there entire race with out knowing exactly were they came from and who originally designed them. But I have the knowledge of how to build a couple of crafts that could stop there invasion. The problem is I don't think I have the time to travel threw all of time and space to find the necessary materials to build the suits,” Fayt said as he let the wisdom of the universe spit information into his head.
“How many of these suits will you be able to make at most?” Nel asked as Fayt rubbed his head.
“At most, probably only seven or eight of them,” Fayt said, “how every that should be more than enough to strike a decisive blow to the enemies forces that they will be crippled when the rest of the armies of the galaxy move in on them.”
“So you have a group of eight other people to help you, plus there are all of our friends to help us. I think we can stop just about anything,” Nel said as she weaved her arms around Fayt.
“Yeah well I guess I can show you all Earths history while I go around and find the necessary items. I hope that's okay with everyone else?” Fayt said as he and Nel walked to the door to check in on the others. The house inside was pretty bare, after all the only thing Fayt really needed in the house was just a place to do the assignments he was given from school. So there was an empty hallway that lead to the back of the house were the guest bedrooms and there was a set of stairs that lead to the master bedroom and Fayts old room. Of course there was a TV in the living room but there was no means to watch anything since the cable bills hadn't been paid in ages.
“Hey Fayt what's the mater with your set?” Cliff asked as he pounded on the television.
“Stop hitting my TV, and I'll go pay the bill,” Fayt said as he walked over to his old computer that, which to Fayts' shock was still connected to the Federation Network. From there he signed into his parents billing account and took care of all the bills that had accumulated of the past four years. After all his original adventure against The Creator took a complete year and then he never came back to earth for another three years except there was one time he was back on the planet but only for a day and he never visited his house.
“Hey Fayt it's working now!!!” Cliff shouted to Fayt.
“Hey Nel, want to come with me?” Fayt asked as he walked to the front door.
“Were you headed to now?”
“I got to go see the big bosses at the Federation Main Science Facility.”
“Okay I'll go with you to see them cant hurt to meet some of the big wigs there.”
“Great shall we fly or do you want to get a cab.”
“Can't we walk?”
“Only if you can walk on air. There are no walkways like you know.”
“Okay let's fly then.” And with that Fayt opened the door for Nel before he sprouted a large white angel like wing and a large black tattered looking wing.
“Hold on tight,” Fayt said as Nel rapped her arms around Fayts' waist. He flexed his new wings a couple of times before jumping off the edge of the walk pillar where his house was. He heard Nel give a slight shrieked as the plummeted towards the every quickly approaching ground.
“Fayt!!!!” She screamed quickly as they ground was now only about a hundred yards away when Fayt quickly pull out of the dive and ascended above the other buildings around his house and headed for the Federation Headquarters. A couple of minutes later Fayt had reached the large building that was only about four or five blocks away from his house.
“Don't you ever scare me like that again or you are never going to feel the same, got me?”
“Sorry, but you know I would never let anything happen you.
“Don't try to smooth talk your way out of this. So why exactly are we at this strange complex?”
“I have to get these guy's up to speed on the situation and how to get started on everything.” Fayt said as he walked into the building.
“Excuses me, Sir. Do you have an appointment?” The young woman at the desk asked as Fayt walked up to her.
“As a matter of fact the head researchers are expecting me. Tell them that Fayt Leingod is here to speak with them,” Fayt said as the receptionist dial the researchers. She spoke quickly to them before listening intently on the words of the researcher who was speaking to her.
“Mister Leingod would you happen to be here on federation business.”
“Tell you boss that this is a matter of intergalactic importance of the highest caliber, plus the military leaders have already be briefed on the situation and we don't have time to waste playing game,” Fayt said before she repeated him word for word to her boss.
“Your welcome to go up top floor is the office of Mister Oalguen,” She said pointing to an elevator that ran the height of the building. With a word of gratitude Fayt and Nel road the elevator all the way to the top where the chief researcher was hard at work on his latest experiment.
“Excuse me, could you possible help us find someone?” Fayt asked looking around the lab.
“Maybe, if they work here then I know them,” the man said as he worked on his experiment.
“I'm looking for a freak of nature with no cold resistance and absolutely no common sense named Andrew,” Fayt said to the complete shock of Nel.
“Wait just a moment. I know that insult anywhere, it couldn't be,” the man said as he slowly turned around.
“You asshole were the hell you been hiding out?” The man said as he gave Fayt a big hug and lifted him into the air.
“Around the universe and more,” Fayt said returning the hug.
“So are you two old friends or something?” Nel asked once Fayt was back on his own two feet.
“Well hello there beautiful. Well Fayt introduce us,” The man said turning Nel.
“Nel this is Andrew, try anything fun and you'll find out just how hard the ground below us really is,” Fayt said as Nel shook hands with the scientist Andrew.
“This is one of my oldest friends. He knew me before I was popular because of basketball and my grades.”
“Although I was always smarter than this rock head,” Andrew interjected.
“So, is this the guy we were supposed to be meeting?” Nel asked, not very amused by Andrews statement.
“Actually Andrew is only the Chief researchers assistant. The chief researcher is in the other room,” Fayt said as he walked to a door at the back of the lab.
“How the hell do you know that,” Andrew said completely baffled by the amount of information Fayt seemed to know that very few others were actually privileged to.
“Let's just say that I'm very well informed now,” Fayt said as Nel proceeded threw the door.
“Who the hell are you two and how did you get into this office?” A man shouted at Nel and Fayt from across the second room.
“Fayt Leingod and this is Nel Zelpher. You're expecting us I believe. You received word that guest would be coming to see you and here we are,” Fayt said as he took a step towards the man.
“So you are the infamous Fayt Leingod, Protector of the galaxy. Am I right?” The man asked taking his seat and turning back to his work.
“Something like that.”
“So why are you here?”
“Well as you should know due to the communications you received earlier a race of extremely advanced machines is on its' way to the galaxy. So if we don't destroy them every mortal sentient life form in this galaxy will be killed.”
“I know I've already been briefed by the bosses form the military, and like I told them I don't have any knowledge about these things nor a way to combat them.”
“That is why I'm here now.”
“What do you mean?”
“This device contains schematics for six machines and detailed information on what I want you and all the military engineers to do till I come back. I have already handled the military with a special video message that will convince them to help you, just tell them Fayt sent you.”
“Fine, now were are you headed. Just incase we need to get in contact with you.”
“You won't need me I guarantee it,” Fayt said effectively ending the conversation. Fayt handed the head researcher the compact hard drive before Nel and he said there goodbyes and headed back to Fayts' house.
“Hey good timing guys, is everything taken care of?” Cliff asked as a commercial came on.
“Yeah were finished here if you want to head out on the trip now,” Fayt said as he opened a shimmering white vortex in the fabric of space and time.
“Where we headed first then?” Maria asked as she examined the portal.
“Don't ask that lets' let it be a surprise,” Sophia asked as she walked into the portal.
“Stupid girl could be walking into god know what,” Albel said as he quickly rushed in behind her.
“Come on Arty,” Peppita said as she bounced into the vortex.
“I really wish she wouldn't call me that,” Artemis said walking into the transporter after Peppita. And the rest were right behind him except for Nel and Fayt who waited for everyone to go threw.
“What is it Fayt?”
“This is going to be extremely interesting since Peppita and Artemis finally got together, and Sophia and Albel make for an interesting couple wouldn't you agree?” Fayt asked with a small smile before floating into the transporter before Nel could comment. She of course was close behind him. On the other side of the portal they all found themselves in a dark deserted alleyway.
