It would be damn near flattery to say that the drive over to Hiro's apartment was ` a bit tense`. Yuki went through half a pack of cigarettes in traffic and crushed his final one on the sidewalk out front of the guitarists apartment complex. Though he hated to admit it, it was a good thing Shuichi was attempting to make him cut back. At the rate that he smoked them when he wasn't stressed out over something, he was already going through almost a pack and a half a day and that would be on a good day when Shuichi actually stayed at work, instead of popping home and pelting Eiri with all of his worries and concerns.
The direction his thoughts had turned almost made Eiri want to just give the brat to Hiro and tell him that he'd come visit now and again, but then he remembered that the only reason he was outside, in the pouring rain, in the middle of the night was because of Shuichi and so he put his thoughts of abandonment to rest.
Yuki trotted up the small set of cement steps onto the front landing and went over to the panel to find the call button for Hiro's apartment. He found it, pressed it and waited.
After about thirty seconds, the smooth familiar voice of Shuichi's best friend came over the intercom, only now it didn't sound like he was in very good shape.
“Hello?” The musician said listlessly, causing Yuki to envision the younger man leaning his head against the wall next to the speaker box.
Yuki now wondered just how he should act towards Hiro. He had made Shuichi cry, but was there a good reason for it? How long had Hiro been crying himself to sleep at night, just wishing that Shuichi was there with him. Though Yuki acted cold and aloof to the problems of those around him, there was something to be said about the knowledge of human emotions it required to do as well as he did in his line of work.
“It's Yuki. We need to talk. Now.”
Though it came over a bit harsher then he had originally intended, the novelist still managed to keep it from sounding like he intended to hospitalize the kid.
“I figured you'd come by,” Hiro said, his voice sounding a bit less depressed, “I'll open the door for you.”
Eiri didn't bother to thank him, he just walked over to the door and waited for Hiro to buzz it open.
This situation was far from original however, as Yuki had had to come and retrieve Shuichi from this very same building more times then he even cared to think about. His affection for the kid damn near made him sick to his stomach sometimes.
The door buzzed before Eiri could even reach for the handle, which was convenient because he was getting tired of standing around outside in the rain.
----
Two long hallways and an elavator ride that had grown from just two floors, to all six found Yuki standing inside Hiro's relatively new living room. The only difference was that it was hardly the one room bachelor pad he had started out in when he was fresh out of high school and Bad Luck was still only releasing singles. The décor of his new apartment was modern, with brush nickle, dark tiles, light woods and black leather splashed about in a haphazard yet planned out sort of way that still managed to maintain a form of assimilated congruency from room to room.
Yuki decided that he liked the look of the place and was even tempted to ask who had designed it, but stopped himself before the words left his mouth. Sleeping with another man made him gay enough as it was without the added concern for someone one else's choice in home décor and fashions.
In the first few minutes of his visit, Eiri and Hiro were withheld around each other, stiffly moving around one another as if they were robots. However, once the two of them were sitting comfortably in the living room, each with his drink of choice in hand, the tension slowly began to dissipate and they went back to their own impersonalized way of dealing with one another.
“Huh,” Hiro scoffed as he leaned back into the couch cushions, “I figured you'd come by to beat the shit out of me.”
Eiri set his empty scotch glass down on the coffee table and lit up a cigarette.
“I fully planned on it, at first,” The writer confessed as he took a long drag of his cigarette and exhaled it slowly, “But then I changed my mind.”
Hiro was intrigued to know why the novelist had decided to spare him a beating. The older blond man had once hospitalized Ma-kun of ASK for no reason other then because he was in the same band as Taki Aizawa, so why the sudden change in attitude now?
“So if you aren't going kick my ass then why are you here?” Hiro asked softly, his inquisitive tone of voice underlain with anger and distrust. It wasn't enough that the musician had had to go through everything that he had that night without the one person that stood between him and happiness coming to stare him down in his own house.
Yuki sat quietly, ignoring the younger mans request as he finished his cigarette.
Hiro was getting very impatient with his friends lover and the fact that the man was blatantly ignoring him, when he was the one that said that they needed to talk made him want to throw something out a window.
“If you're not going to talk then get the fuck out!” The guitarist demanded as Eiri calmly leaned forward and crushed out his cigarette in the ashtray.
“That,” Eiri explained in a composed, proper tone of voice, “Is exactly why I'm here.”
By this point Hiro was past being angry and was now furious with the man sitting in front of him. He wanted to know why he was being subjected to Yuki's mind games.
“What do you mean, `that's why you're here'? What are you talking about?”
Hiro was now holding his head between his hands, and it looked to Eiri like he had better explain himself before fists started flying.
“What I mean is, you're angry with me for no reason other then I am Shuichi's lover and you are not. Am I right?”
The red haired musician's eyes widened at this statement. That was not event he half of it and Eiri damn well knew it.
“You want to know why I hate you, Eiri Yuki-san? I hate you because you don't know how good you've got it and because of the way you treat Shuichi. I used to be happy for him, I was actually glad that he had finally found someone that cared about him. And then I was lucky enough to meet you in person and I realized that you didn't care about him at all.”
Eiri was thoroughly enjoying the direction that the discussion had turned. This was exactly what he wanted to hear.
“And what makes you think that I don't?” Eiri said darkly as he leaned forward to stare straight into the eyes of the person that hated him so.
“Because you don't listen to him or talk to him about his day or even care whether he's home or not. You use him and disappear on him and I`m the one he runs to when he thinks you`re out cheating on him. You've got him so deeply in love with you that he can't even see how badly you treat him. If he were with me he---”
“If he were with you he'd what?” Eiri injected venomously, now very angry with what Hiro was saying to him, “You honestly think that you could make him happy? That you could satisfy his constant need for attention and affection, put your life on hold just to take care of him and make sure that he's alright? The problem with Shuichi is that he cares too much and that is none of my concern. What makes you think that he`d be any better off with you then he is with me?”
“Because unlike you, I love him. I have always loved him and I was just to naïve to see it. You stole him away from me before I had a chance to tell him how I felt! And who do you think you are coming in here and asking me all these questions? Shuichi's probably sitting at home alone right now crying and wondering where the hell you went, like always right?”
Eiri was now feeling ready to go back on his change of heart and give Hiro the ass kicking he fucking deserved.
`Who the hell does he think he is?' Eiri thought as he continued to stare at Hiro, `Trying to make me feel guilty for things that he knows nothing about?'
The reality of the situation was that Eiri really did love Shuichi, probably more then anybody knew. The problem was that he had a hard time showing it. Being course and acting mean were just ways to keep Shuichi thinking about him, whether or not they were good thoughts. Eiri wanted to be with Shuichi always, but life made a habit of interrupting and forcing the two of them apart when they least wanted it too.
“So, I guess we've reached the part of the argument where you expect me to stand up and declare my undying love for the brat in hopes that I'll somehow show you that you're wrong and that I am in love with Shuichi. Unfortunately I'm not the type of person who cares for formality in these types of situations and so instead I am prepared to offer you an ultimatum. I'll be willing to give you what you want, but on one condition. I get to join in.”
Eiri sat back and smiled as he watched Hiro's expressions go through a whole multitude of changes. First there was confusion, then some form of realization hit him, which then lead back to confusion and finally on to longing.
“Do you think that's all I want from him? Sex? What kind of a man do you think I am?”
“Well I can assure you that I know what kind of a man you're not, because I was merely testing you to see what you'd say, though regardless of your character, my offer still stands. You, Shuichi and myself for one night .We never speak of this little episode again and things go right back to the way were. So Hiro, what do you say?”
The musician wondered if he should accept the offer. A threesome was something that he had always thought about, not necessarily with two other guys, but he had thought about it nonetheless. And now he was faced with the question of whether or not he would be satisfied with just one night, or would it only make him crave Shuichi more?
“Time is ticking, I don`t have all night.” Eiri said as he smiled and continued to watch the inner storm brew within his lovers best friend.
“Alright, I accept, but I'll only agree to this if it is okay with Shuichi first. I don`t want him if he doesn't want me too. I...just couldn't do it.”
Eiri knew that Hiro would accept. How could he pass up an opportunity this good? God know the kid wants it, and this will probably be his only chance to actually get it.
They both knew that Shuichi would never leave Yuki and if this was the only form of actual love and care that Hiro could get from Shu then he had no other choice then to take a chance and go for it.
“Agreed,” Eiri declared as he stood up and put on his coat and shoes, “I'll talk to him in a few days once he's calmed down a bit and I'll give you a call.”
Hiro nodded and watched as his friends lover left his home.
He suddenly felt very lonely and he secretly wished with all his heart that Shuichi would agree.
