The Reunion of Two Pilots Side Story 1: Heero and Ukyou

By Cecily Ronah

After Colony 197: Nerima, Japan

"God Dammit!" Heero cursed, kicking a can out of his path. "Of all the damn days that the air shuttle decides to break down, WHY did it have to be TODAY?!?"

Everything that could have gone wrong for Heero today, did. Not only did the air shuttle break down, his aircar goes and overheats, and since he forgot his cell phone at the hotel, Heero had to walk to the nearest town, Nerima, but that was twenty miles from where the aircar overheated.

"At least I've walked the first fifteen," Heero muttered. Since the war ended two years ago, Heero lost two people that meant the most to him. First Hannah, who goes and disappears right after the war, and then less than a year later, he and Relena break up. They tried to make it work, but with him working for the Preventers and her ruling the World Colony Nations with her brother, they never saw each other. On top of that, his friends seem to have disappeared. Duo and Kasey wet back to L2, Trowa was always traveling with the circus, and Quatre was helping his sisters run their family's company. The only one he ever saw was Wufei, and even then they didn't really talk about much, since Hannah was a topic neither wanted to talk about. 'What happened to us?' Heero thought to himself. 'We use to be so close, but we haven't really seen each other since....' Then it hit him, or rather someone. "OOF!" Heero stumbled backwards and landed on his rear. Looking up, Heero glared at the guy who ran into him. "Hey, watch where you're going!"

"Hey, sorry man. Here." The guy held out a hand and helped Heero up. Heero noticed that the guy was wearing a red Chinese silk shirt and black pants. His long black hair was bound back in a braid.

"Don't worry about it," Heero mumbled, brushing the dirt off his uniform.

The guy grinned. "I'm Ranma Saotome," he said, sticking his hand back out.

Heero shook it. "Heero Yuy. What were you running from?"

"My fiancée's mallet," he replied, and when he saw Heero's confused look, Ranma sighed. "It's a long story. Come on, I'll buy you lunch to make up for bumping into you. I know someone that makes GREAT okonomiyaki."

"Arigato. I appreciate it." Ranma led Heero to a place that read 'Ucchan's' and was about to go in when someone flew out the door.

"What the hell?!?"

Ranma just chuckled. "This happens everyday. Watch."

Just then a girl with long brown hair pulled back came out with VERY large spatchla, and she looked pissed.

"Kuno, you jackass! How many times do I have to bang into that pea-size brain of yours not to grope me?!?

Kuno got onto his knees. "But Ukyou, my beloved! We are meant to be together!"

"The only thing that's going to be together is you and the sky!" Ukyou swung her large spatchla and sent Kuno flying.

"My beloved..." Kuno cried out as he flew out of sight.

Ukyou rolled her eyes. "When will he ever learn?" She then noticed Ranma with a guy standing next to him that made her heart flutter. 'He's cute....' "Ohayo Ranchan!" she said brightly. "What brings you here?"

"Hey Ucchan. I brought someone over to try your awesome cooking." He turned to Heero. "Heero, this is my best friend Ukyou Kounji. Ukyou, I'd like you to meet Heero Yuy."

'Heero Yuy? Where have I heard that name before?' Ukyou put on a smile as she held out her hand. "It's nice to meet you Heero. Gomen nasai that you had to see that."

Heero smiled slightly as he took her hand. "It's nice to meet you too, and you don't need to apologize, Ukyou."

Ukyou couldn't explain it, but she felt she knew Heero from somewhere. 'I'm probably just being paranoid.' "So you two are hungry huh? I can make some beef okonomiyaki if you want."

"That sounds great Ucchan," Ranma said, his stomach growling loudly. "Akane is cooking this week, so I'm starving!" He went into the restaurant.

Ukyou laughed. "We better follow him before he raids the place." She led Heero into the restaurant.

"So, where are you from?" Ukyou asked as she started making the Japanese pizza.

Heero sat in a chair across from her and watched. "I live on the L1 Colony."

Ukyou looked up from her cooking, surprised. "You live on a colony? What's it like?"

"It's alright," he said, shrugging. "The people that built them made them to have a lot of the things that the Earth has, if not a little artificial."

Ukyou flipped the pizza off the grill and onto a plate. "Was it awful, being it the middle of the war like that? Here you go Ranchan." She handed her friend an okonomiyaki and started on one for Heero.

Heero scowled, remembering the war from two years ago. "You don't know the half of it," he said, clenching his fists angrily.

Ukyou saw the pain and anger in his eyes. 'The look in his eyes, and the sadness in his voice... it the same way I get....' Her eyes widened and the spatchla dropped out of her hands. 'Oh my god. He's the pilot of 01! That's where I remember his name!' She suddenly felt sick to her stomach.

Ranma noticed the change. "Ucchan, are you alright?"

Tears welled up in Ukyou's eyes. "I'm.... f-fine.... I need to g-get something from the back." She turned and nearly ran into the backroom.

Heero looked at Ranma, confused. "What's the matter with her?"

"Talking about the war still upsets her I guess." Ranma took the okonomiyaki off the grill before it burned. "I can understand, with what she went through."

Heero raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"

"She was a pilot."

"For OZ?"

"No, for the resistance. She was a Gundam pilot."

Heero stood up so fast, he knocked over his chair, startling Ranma. "Nani?!? That can't be!" He stormed into the backroom, where he saw Ukyou sitting in a chair. "You have some explaining to do."

Ukyou wiped the tears off her face, but didn't turn to look at him. "About what? I think what Ranma told you is pretty much it."

Heero went over to her and yanked her up, gripping her arm. Ukyou winced slightly, but still didn't look at him. "You couldn't be a Gundam pilot. They're were only the nine of us."

Now Ukyou looked confused. "Nine?"

"Duo, Trowa, Quatre, Wufei, Hannah, Kasey, Domon, Amanda and me."

"Kasey Sanada?" Ukyou let out a curse. "Baka yaro. She wasn't suppose to be found out."

"What the hell are you talking about?"

"Kasey Sanada was the leader of our group. We thought she had died during the war, but apparently that wasn't the case."

Heero still wasn't convinced, but had loosened the grip on Ukyou's arm considerably. "What group was that?"

Ukyou sighed. "They're were five of us. Kasey, Marissa Kaiou, Raye Hino, Pan Son, and me. We were given orders by the scientists to help out whenever you guys weren't around to help, but to be quiet about it. It would have been bad if OZ found out that there were thirteen gundams instead of nine like they thought. Though I'm kinda confused how there were eight instead of six, and I'm not counting Kasey."

"It's a long story." He loosened his hold on Ukyou completely. "Does anyone else know about you being a Gundam pilot?"

Ukyou shook her head. "Iie, only Ranma. I trust him with my life." She blinked when she felt Heero move closer. "Heero?"

"I can't explain it, but the moment I met you, I felt.... connected to you." He brushed some hair away from her face.

Ukyou put her hand over the one on her cheek. "Heero...." she whispered. He said nothing as he lowered his head and brushed his lips against hers. Ukyou's eyes fluttered closed as Heero kissed her gently.

'Nothing's felt this right before.... not even with Relena....' Heero thought as Ukyou opened her mouth slightly. He slipped his tongue in and brushed it against hers.

'I shouldn't be doing this! I just met him!' Ukyou thought as Heero put a hand behind her neck and pulled her closer. 'Oh kami-sama....' She grabbed the hem of his jacket and held him close.

Just then they a heard a gun being shot from the front of the restaurant, making them pull away from each other in alarm.

"HEY! What the hell do you think you're doing?" they heard Ranma yell angrily. "You could of hurt someone if anyone else was here!"

"07, I know you're hear! Come out!"

Ukyou's eyes widened. "Nichol," she whispered.

Heero held her close to him. "Be quiet."

Another shot was heard followed by a cry of pain. "NOW 07!"

"RANMA!" Ukyou ran out to the front and knelt down next to her friend. "Ranchan! Are you alright?"

Ranma nodded, wincing as he held a hand to his arm. "I'll be fine Ucchan."

A gun clicked. "Nice of you to join us 07, or should I say Ukyou Kounji."

Ukyou glared at the former OZ solider. "What do you want jackass?"

"I'm the one who will ask the questions. Now get up."

Ukyou was about to say something snappy when Ranma whispered, "Do as he says."

"But..."

"I don't want you to get shot too," Ranma said, wincing again. "Please, do what he says."

Another gunshot was fired, hitting the wall behind them. "NOW!" he snapped.

Ukyou slowly stood up, her hands slightly in the air. "What do you want? The war's been over for two years now."

"You stupid Gundam pilots ruined my life, and now you must pay! Because of you, I lost my chance at becoming Captain."

Ukyou rolled her eyes, watching silently as Heero came up behind the crazed Nicols, though she had to wonder how he got there without anyone seeing. "Please. You're the worse excuse of a pilot I've ever seen. You actually think you would have made Captain? Excuse me while I stop laughing."

"You little bitch!" Nicol was about to shoot her, but Heero suddenly lunged foreword and knocked him to the ground. Ukyou quickly grabbed the gun and aimed it at him. "Don't move."

Heero quickly handcuffed Nicol's hands behind his back. "I need to call headquarters and bring this guy in." He pulled out his cell phone and dialed a number. "Tamara, this is Heero."

Ukyou went over to Ranma. "Are you okay?"

"Hai, you know I've made it through worse." He saw tears well up in Ukyou's eyes. "Ucchan?"

"It's my fault you're hurt. Maybe if I never came here...."

"Hey, hey," Ranma put a hand on Ukyou's cheek. "Don't ever regret your coming here. I'm glad. You're the only female I know that doesn't come after me for my charming good looks."

Ukyou burst out laughing. "Oh Ranma." She kissed her cheek.

Heero hung up the phone. "Une and the others are on their way to pick Nicol up. I also asked them to bring my friend Sally Po. She's a doctor and she'll take good care of you."

Ranma nodded. "Arigato Heero."

Ukyou got up. "I'm going to get some water so I can clean that wound up some."

Ranma paled slightly at the mention of water. "Ucchan..."

"Some WARM water, you dumbass." Ukyou turned and went into the back.

Heero handed Ranma the gun. "I'll be right back. I need to talk to Ucchan for a moment." He started to follow her.

"Hey, Heero."

Heero looked back. "Hai?"

Ranma grinned. "You better take care of her."

"Hn." Heero turned back and headed towards the back.

Nichol snorted. "Please."

Ranma aimed the gun at Nichol and clicked it on. "Shut up."

Heero found Ukyou on a chair trying to grab a bowl off a high shelf. He was startled when he heard her say, "Why aren't you out with Ranma?"

"You don't have to worry about him. I gave him a gun. Even without it, he could take care of himself." Heero watched Ukyou. "Need some help?"

"Iie, I just about.... have it...." Just as her fingers touched the bowl, the chair tipped and sent her towards the floor. "AAH!" Strong arms caught her and Ukyou found herself looking into Heero's cobalt blue eyes.

Heero looked back into Ukyou's warm chocolate brown ones and fought the urge to kiss her right then and there. "Ukyou, we need to talk."

Ukyou nodded, but before Heero could say anything, he heard Tamara Khushrenada's voice. "Who's that?"

"That's Tamara, my boss."

"Heero!" Heero stiffened.

Ukyou felt it. "Heero? What's wrong?"

"Relena." Setting Ukyou back on the ground, Heero went out to the front, Ukyou following close behind.

"Oh, there you are Heero." Tamara walked up to him. "Good work! We've been working on trying to bring Nichol in for months."

"Don't just thank me," Heero turned to Ukyou. "If Ukyou hadn't kept him distracted, I wouldn't have been able to jump him from behind." He smiled slightly when a soft blush appeared on her cheeks.

"Heero!" Suddenly a blonde came forward and wrapped her arms around him. "I'm so glad you're alright."

Ukyou watched this in dismay. 'Is that was Heero wanted to tell me, that he has a girlfriend?' Tears stung the back of her eyes, but she wouldn't let them fall. Quietly, she turned and walked out of the restaurant.

"Relena." Heero grabbed her forearms and gently pried her off him. "You look well, your highness."

Relena smiled. "Oh Heero, you know you don't have to be formal with me. You were so brave, taking Nichol on all by yourself." She moved closer to him.

"I didn't do it by myself. Ukyou...." Heero looked around. "Where did she go?"

"Who's Ukyou?" Relena asked, slightly jealous.

"Ranma, where's Ukyou?" Heero asked the pigtail boy.

"I saw her go outside a few minutes ago. She looked like she was about to cry." Ranma gave him a look. "What happened?"

"Kuso," Heero muttered. "I'll handle it," he told Ranma before heading towards the door.

Relena stopped. "Heero, what...."

Heero cut her off. "Relena, look, I'm sorry, but I don't feel the same way for you that I did two years ago. I can't deny these feelings I have for Ukyou and I won't."

Tears began to fill Relena's eyes. "Heero...."

"Relena." Heero placed a hand on her cheek gently. "It wouldn't work. Not with the different lives we live. We'd just end up hurt again."

Relena was quiet for a moment before nodding. "You're right." She took a deep breath before smiling softly. "I hope it works out for you two."

Heero smiled. "Arigato, Relena-sama." Leaning down he kiss her softly on the lips. He then heard a soft gasp and turned to see Ukyou in the window. Tears rolled down her cheeks before she turned and ran. "Shit!"

Relena saw Ukyou run off. "Oh no!" She looked at Heero. "You have to go after her!"

Heero nodded before leaving the restaurant after Ukyou.

Relena felt tears roll down her cheeks. "Goodbye Heero," she whispered.

'You're so stupid,' Ukyou scolded herself as tried to run as far away as possible. 'How could he possibly like someone like you when he has someone like her?'

"Ukyou, stop!" Heero yelled as he ran after her. She didn't even slow down, in fact, she ran faster. Heero growled before sprinting and a moment later grabbed her by the waist, sending them both tumbling down a grassy hill. When they stopped, Heero was sitting on top of Ukyou, making sure he didn't crush her with his weight.

Ukyou started hitting him in the chest. "Get off me you jackass!!"

Heero grabbed her wrists and pinned them above her head. "Will you stop and listen to me? The kiss between Relena and I, it's not what you think. She was my girlfriend at one time, but I was giving her a kiss goodbye."

"Leave me alone!" she cried, trying to roll Heero off her, but was unable to do so. "I don't care!"

'I can't lose her!' Leaning down, Heero pressed his lips against Ukyou's, making her freeze in shock.

When he pulled back slightly, Ukyou whispered, "Why did you do that?"

Not taking his eyes off her, Heero said, "I can't understand why, since we've only known each other for a few hours, but I feel this connection with you that I've never had with anyone else, not even Relena. It could be us once being Gundam pilots, I really don't know, but I do know I want you in my life, and I'll do whatever it takes to make it happen."

Ukyou laid there in shock. After a few moments, she said softly, "I feel the same way you do. When I saw you kiss her, it felt like someone punched me in the gut. I never felt that...hurt, not even when I saw Ranma kiss Akane."

"So are you saying you're willing to try?" Heero asked, a look of hope in his usually cold cobalt eyes.

Pulling one of her hands out of Heero's grasp, she placed it on back of Heero's neck, burying her fingers in his thick brown hair. "I'll try anything.... as long as you're there Heero."

"I'll always be there Ucchan." Heero kissed her again, and for the first time ever, felt like a complete person.

Four years later....

"Ucchan, I'm home!" Heero called out, shrugging out of his Preventers jacket.

"I'm in the playroom! Come here, I have something to show you!"

Heero went into the room Ukyou was in. "What is it that you want to show me?" he asked, kissing her softly on the lips.

Ukyou smiled and looked down at her two year old daughter. "Maria-chan, what to you want to tell your Tousan?"

Maria frowned slightly, trying to think, before saying with a bright smile, "Aishiteru, Tousan."

Heero was in shock. "She spoke!" He picked up his daughter and tossed her in the air and caught her, making her squeal. "I'm so proud you, Maria-chan!"

"Tousan! You might drop her!" His only son, Trevor, was watching them with a concerned look in his young cobalt blue eyes, his brown hair, which looked so much like Heero's, fell in between them.

Heero knelt down and put Maria down next to him. "You know I would never do anything to endanger your baby sister, Trevor. Could you do me a big favor and watch her for a few minute while I talk to your Kassan, and then afterwards, we'll all go out for ice cream."

"Yeah!" Trevor cried happily. Taking Maria's hand, he said in a big boy voice, "Come on Maria-chan, let's go play with your blocks."

While the children played, Heero pulled Ukyou aside. "I just got a call from Quatre today," he said softly. "Hannah showed up at his front door."

Ukyou's eyes widened. "Honto? Is she alright?"

"Hai, but what surprised him was she had a little girl with her."

"A girl? Is it...."?

"Hers? Yeah. She named her Adrianne, but she won't say who the father is." Heero sighed and laid his forehead against Ukyou's. "I'm just glad she's alive. I haven't seen her since the war."

Ukyou put a hand on his cheek. "Do you want to go see her?" she asked softly.

Heero nodded. "But Quatre said to give her some time to get settled. She looked tired, he said."

"Well, we'll wait until he calls and says its okay, but for now, we have two children that are ready for ice cream." She started to go back into the playroom, but Heero stopped her.

"Arigato," he said softly.

Ukyou blinked, confused. "For what?"

"For giving me everything I could ever hope for." Heero kissed her. "Aishiteru Ucchan."

Ukyou kissed him back. "Aishiteru Heero."

"Tousan! Can we go get ice cream now?" Trevor asked hopefully, tugging at his pants.

"Ice cream! Ice cream!" Maria cried, jumping up and down.

Heero laughed as he let go of Ukyou and picked them both up. "Hai, let's go get ice cream..

"YEAH!!!"

Ukyou saw the happy look on Heero's face and pulled his face close and kissed his softly. "Arigato for giving me everything I could ever hope for too."

Heero smiled at her, and they all left to get ice cream.

Cecily: (squeals happily) I finished it! I finally finished it! It took me a year, but I finally finished it!

Heero: (raises a eyebrow) It took you a year?

Cecily: You and Ukyou were hard to write for.

Heero: (shrugs)
