True Bloods
Chapter 3
He parked the car at the front of the school and got out, not even bothering to take the keys out of the ignition he was so preoccupied. Is this all really just a trap? He wondered. Does Shingo even have anything to do with this? But who else would try to break into my locker? Is there a Vampire around that I didn't even know about? He knew that could very possibly be true. His abilities leaned towards more spiritual and magic, not darkness and demons. Duo was the one who would have known.
He then realized that he had reached his final destination. He looked around, not seeing or even hearing anything nearby. It was as if the entire area had been closed off to sound; it was so silent. He then took a sniff of the air, using his acute sense of smell to notice the light hint in the wind, something that was not a true smell, like blood or smoke, and noticeable to only those who had the enhanced gift. It was something akin to death, almost has if something (or someone) had had lost its hold on the world, but was not yet fully succumb to death. And it seemed had come about recently, VERY recently.
" I know you're here," he shouted out, his voice cold and echoing eerily. " Come out before we have to do this the hard way and I find you."
Suddenly a shadow appeared from behind the corner of the school. " You're late Sagey," the familiar voice told him. " I've been waiting for a long time."
" Shingo?" he cut his eyes at him. The other boy moved more into the light of the night lamps, his eyes covered by his mussed bangs that fell into his face. Sage could clearly see that something was different about the other. He blinked, opening his eyes with a new spark in them. Different colors filled his vision, coming from the auras of every living thing around him. His set his sight on his adversary, but could not see his aura, it was nothing but emptiness surrounding him.
It was then that he also realized that he couldn't smell the other either. He could definitely smell him that day at school, the irritating scent of arrogance that made him want to cover his nose whenever the black-haired boy was near. But now there was nothing, as if he wasn't even there. And he understood why.
" You were bitten by a Vampire," he accused knowingly. He also knew that the transformation wasn't complete. Shingo was only a Halfling, a human or demon that had yet to feed on a Vampire to complete the transformation and was controlled mentally by the Vampire that had bitten them. He could tell the other boy was too far gone to be saved, but a Halfling didn't have the dark mystical prowess given to all Vampires once fully turned.
" Maybe you're right," Shingo shrugged carelessly. "I don't feel quite myself."
The blonde knew to be wary. Even if he wasn't magically powered, Halflings were extremely fast and had great strength. " Where is the Vampire?" Sage asked. " I know he wouldn't leave you to fight me by yourself. They have too much pride in making sure the work gets done right."
" Oh, he's here," Shingo nodded, eyes gleaming red. " He's always here. You'll see. His sire wants to see you."
" Who is his sire?" he inquired, a dark taste in his mouth at merely saying the fowl word used by lower ranks bloodsuckers to speak of their masters. " Another blood-sucking night-stalker that wants to be known for killing a Verus Sanguis? Most would want the honor done by their own hand, not some lackey and a half-live human."
" Kill? No not kill," Shingo giggled in an awkward tone. " You'll see, he wants you far from dead." With that the dark-haired boy disappeared from sight, but the blonde could hear him loud and clear, his racing footsteps getting closer and closer. He remained still, but then turned his eyes to the left, clearly getting sight of a black aura coming towards him. He jumped, easily doing a back flip in the air and landing gracefully on his feet a few yards away, closer towards the fence separating the parking lot from the sports field. Shingo was standing where he had been, a look of confusion on his face.
" Over here," Sage called out to him, enjoying the look of anger that filled the Halfling's face. He knew the boy didn't deserve to become a mind-controlled slave to a Vampire, but he couldn't help feeling some sick form a satisfaction because of how the boy treated him and others. In a way, it felt like he'd gotten his just desserts.
" Try to stop me, it is inevitable, your fate is sealed," Shingo told him with a smirk.
" Really? I'd love to see how that works out," Sage taunted him. " You're probably even weaker now than you were before." He knew for a fact that Halflings usually had short tempers and didn't think about their actions once they were taken over by rage. He just had to keep pushing, easy enough with how he usually got under the boy's skin so effortlessly.
" I'll show you who's weak!" the other shouted, completely ignorant of the blonde's ambitions. " You're nothing!"
He rushed towards Sage, nothing on his mind besides ripping out the boy's throat. The blonde merely moved to the side and allowed the other to pass him, not even their clothes touching. Shingo spun around, his eyes burning red with rage. He lunged forward, throwing a punch at his opponent's face. Sage dodged easily, moving his head to the side. Shingo snarled at this and tried again with his other fist, but the blonde merely did the same thing.
He continued this, allowing the other to tire himself out while he remained on the defensive. Shingo was breathing deeply, sweat dripping from his brow, but his eyes were a blinding red hue that proved he wasn't ready to stop yet. He didn't care about his Master's words, he wanted to kill the blonde. Sage was finally irritated and ducked another punch, quickly sending a right-hook that sent the raven-haired Halfling flying backwards and colliding into the wall of the school.
" That's enough!" a voice shouted from the roof of the building. Sage and Shingo looked up, the latter immediately bowing his head in submission. On the roof was a dark brown-haired man wearing a deep black jean jacket over a red T-shirt and black jeans.
" Master, I…" Shingo started.
" Have failed," the Vampire interrupted. " I simply asked you to weaken him for me and yet you are the one being led along." He turned blue eyes to stare at Sage and smirked. " But my Sire would want no less of a Verus Sanguis."
" I don't really care what your sire wants," Sage growled a little. " Just get to the chase."
"More than gladly," he jumped from the roof, landing a few feet in front of Shingo. He turned his attention back to the Halfling and raised a hand.
" No Mast-!" the other's voice halted and he burst into flames. Screams were heard, but they too were stopped as the Vampire watched Shingo burn with a sick look of pride on his face. The corpse fell to the ground, still writhing in agony somewhat, before the flames finally faded and nothing could be told of what had once been Shingo Kazamatsuri.
Sage's eyes were wide with shock. He just killed him…just like that, no remorse and without a second thought… His eyes cut into slits and a deep glimmer of red showed through the tinted shades of his sunglasses. " Monster," he growled. " He might have been a horrible excuse for a person, but not so much that he deserved to die."
" Aren't you a piece of work?" the Vampire laughed. " You hated him and yet you feel pain when he dies. You're angry, I can feel it. My sire told me you were the one with a temper over such things."
" Who is your sire?" Sage asked again. " What would he know about me?"
" Oh he knows everything about you, Seiji," the other replied, still smirking. " He also knows of your other half Duojo. He wants to see you both."
" That's going to be hard seeing as I don't even know where he is," the blonde told him. " If I couldn't find him, how do you expect to?"
" Oh we have our ways, my sire is very resourceful," the Vampire explained. " We already know where he is, we just want to bide our time to get to him."
" What do you know of Duojo?" his eyes were growing dark with anger. " Do not lie for I can smell deceit even on the likes of such vermin as you."
" Than I shall not lie and simply say nothing," he smirked. " Just know that where you are going he shall be at your heels shortly."
" Oh but you do lie for I shall not fall victim to you and your master," Sage stated. " Too many centuries have I lived to submit to one that cannot even be considered a third rate Bloodsucker."
The Vampire chuckled, " Yes, you were the One to have a dry wit, weren't you? Oh but know I am not foolish enough to go into combat with one of your kind without certain 'insurance' of my victory."
" What is it of which you speak?" he inquired. " What makes you so sure that you shall actually best me when countless others over the centuries have failed at that very same feat?" He spoke not from arrogance, but from experience. He knew he would not lose to this insignificant fiend because he could not lose or else he would forfeit not only his own life, but the life of the other half of his very being as well. Too many had forced him into battle to attempt the same and all lost because he refused to fail when they were such high stakes.
" That hapless whelp was not the only one that I have taken into my command this night," he replied. " Let us see if you can best them all and then myself as well."
Suddenly, sound broke out from all around him. He turned and saw that there were many flooding from within the hidden shrubs and brush that outline the parking lot and recreation grounds of the high school, all Halflings. He could tell that many were from his own school, lackeys of the now late Shingo, who most surely had been waiting with the leader for a surprise ambush. And yet it seemed that they themselves were on the opposite end of the exact same tactic. Only there were more than just the former entourage of Shingo as it seemed there were at least twenty if not more of them crowding closely together into the spacious area surrounding him.
" I see you have indeed been quite a busy little ghoul, haven't you?" he looked about him at the large mass of Halflings waiting to take a piece out of in any way they could. But he also noticed the dullness of their eyes and the lack of speech as they growled at him. These creatures were or the usual sort of Halflings. " What have you done to them? Temperamental their kind is yes, but not usually plain animalistic."
The Vampire seemed quite delighted by his observation. " So I see you've noticed!" he clapped in applause. " As a gift from my master I have been given the right to 'alter' my minions. Definitely less attitude and no lip, and they won't attack unless I command them to and are far more obedient than the run of the mill Halfling, while at the same time being as vicious as starve beasts who are unable to sate their hunger. Whatever it may be. Absolutely perfect, don't you agree? Why don't you take them for a test run?"
" Remember, he must remain and as intact as possible," with a snap of his fingers all of the creatures seemed to come together, attacking him at once in an effort to slaughter him. Sage had only a few seconds to prepare himself and fight back. Never had he fought so many alone, but that did not matter. He could not lose. He was so entranced in his survival he was oblivious to the strange tremor at the back of his mind like the reconnecting of a disconnected phone line.
*****
His senses were still going wild, like they would when one of the many demons he knew existed were nearby. Thrice already he'd been forced to leave the presence of his four companions and their two bodyguards (assigned to them by Quatre's overprotective father) so that he could release some of the built up negative energy. They of course believed it only to be a headache that pained him, seeing as he had these often while they were together before, excuse being one he used often for other 'afflictions'.
" Duo?" Quatre came up behind him and placed a concern hand upon his shoulder. " Maybe we should return home. You're looking quite pale, my friend."
" No I'm fine," he gave him his usual dazzling smile that reached his eyes so easily that it was believed. " My migraines have just decided to kick me in the ass today."
" Are you sure?" the smaller blonde wasn't so ready to dismiss his ill health. " Because you're the one that wanted to go out today and if you're not feeling well we can just leave."
" Quatre is correct Maxwell," Wufei stated in agreement to the blonde's words. " We do not need you weakened for the main duration of our time together."
The chestnut-braided boy almost forgot in his pain that he was 'Maxwell'. It was really beginning to get to him. It was like something was trying to get at him, forcing him to realign himself with something that he'd either lost long ago or had never had to begin with. It was such a strange feeling, so unfamiliar and yet so the opposite at the same time. Like a song you hadn't heard in years that you suddenly found playing on the radio.
" Maybe you guys are right," he slowly conceded. " They're worse than usual and I'm not in the mood to starting falling over if they get any worse."
These words only seemed to alarm Quatre further. " If they're that bad, we should take you to the hospital," he urged.
" Nah," the brunette declined. " I just need to get home so I can take the prescription the doctor only that comes to the church proscribed me. I…kinda skipped taking it yesterday and the night before."
" Not very bright of you," Heero finally spoke, but his eyes held a certain look of measuring. " You know that not taking you medication makes the effects of the migraines worsen."
" Yeah, well I hate having to depend on a drug to keep me up and about," the younger-looking boy replied, his lie still flowing. Heero merely stared at him with a knowing expression that he had come to notice instantly. Duo sighed inwardly at this. Heero had never been one to fully accept his 'excuses'. He always gave him a piercing look that told him of his suspicion. If anyone were even near discovering his centuries-kept secret it was Heero Yuy.
Suddenly, he felt it break. The strange fuzzy pain that had been attacking him from within the deep recesses of his mind was gone and he felt instant relief and clarity. A blockade long in place had been torn down (or lifted) from him. He let out a gasp at the shock, dropping all of his bags to the ground and falling to one knee. It was there again, the same Connection he'd thought he'd lost had finally returned.
" Duo!" Quatre kneeled next to him. " Are you all right?! We need to get you to a hospital and…"
Duo ceased to listen as he heard Wufei make some comment in order to convince him to respond. He could feel it. The other half of his soul had been returned to him, finally set back at the edge of his clear conscious as it (or should he say 'he') was meant to be. But with the sense of relief, happiness, and joy, came the feelings of apprehension, fatigue, and desperation. His other half was in danger.
It's the darkness that I've been feeling, he realized. The demons in this town, the reason why I feel so many isn't because they've been looking for me, but HIM. This revelation left him feeling a sensation he had long put behind him. He wanted to protect that feeling of belonging and acceptance that only ones own blood could provide. And with the replacement of the Bond he knew exactly where to go.
Not even recalling the position that he had just been in or the people that he had been accompanying, Duo stood up and push whomever that stood before him out of his way. He had to go. He had to get to him. I'm coming Seiji, he thought.
" Duo!" Trowa watched the boy run off, actually shoving Quatre down to the ground in his haste to get away from them.
" Something scared him," the blonde stated as one of his guards helping him to his feet.
" Are you all right?" Trowa asked him.
" I'm quite fine," he assured him. " He just caught me off guard when he did that. But I meant it when I said he was scared. It's like he's trying to get to something immediately."
" How do you know?" Wufei asked him.
Quatre thought about that question with a look of confusion. " I don't know," he admitted. " It's just this feeling I have."
" I shall go find you friend," one of his bodyguards told him.
" That's quite all right," Quatre told him. " We'll get him. We'll be right back."
Neither guard seemed please by his words. " But Master Quatre…"
But the boys were already on their way, leaving their bags from their excursion in the arms of the two tan-skinned men. The two escorts were unsure as to what they should have been doing. They knew they should go after the five adolescents, but they also knew how displeased their employer would be if they just left all of the bags behind because they would just be wasting money.
" He'll be even more upset with us if we let anything happen to his son," the one wearing a cream colored turban remarked. " And Rashid will have our heads as well."
" The lesser of two evils," his companion agreed as they dropped what bags they held and took chase.
*****
" Where did he go?" Wufei wondered as they made it to the parking lot where their vehicles were stationed. " He couldn't have gotten away that fast."
" I'm not so sure about that," his lover commented before spotting sight of a long flowing chestnut braid as the figure pulled out of the parking space, motorcycle revving. The brunette was the only one that refused to ride in the leased vehicle given to them by Quatre's father. He had convinced the small blonde's parent to have his motorcycle brought over from the United States with him for their vacation.
" Duo!" Quatre yelled to him. " Duo, wait!" The brunette chanced a look back at his for friends, but then turned back to his task and drove away from them.
Trowa watched his exit as he turned down the south road heading towards the more inhabited area of Tokyo, where practically all of the homes and schools and such had been built. " We can still catch up to him," he reminded them.
" Oh yes, the car!" Quatre smiled, but then frowned. " But Abdul has the keys in his pocket."
" Here," Heero tossed him something in the air. The blonde caught it and gave a curious glance to the brunette. In his hand was a small ring with two silver keys.
" How did you…?"
" Car now, questions later," Wufei cut in as he headed swiftly towards their transportation. " There are about thirteen lights on this street and if we hurry we should be able to take a back road to get to Maxwell's position. He's heading directly south." He didn't realize what he was saying until after it had already been spoken. But how would I know where he is going? He asked himself. He could easily turned off onto one of the many side streets.
Even so, he knew that brunette was going straight south. It was like something in his mind and soul refused to accept otherwise. It was as if he actually tell where Duo was going, could 'feel' him within himself. Unbeknownst to the raven-haired boy, he words had sparked the very same reactions in all of his friends. None of them knew why they felt this way, or even if they should, but there was a sense of understanding as well. They needn't worry.
" Come on," Trowa motioned for Quatre to get into the driver's side of the black Escalade with even darker tinted windows. The blonde gave a small nod and opened the door, climbing in immediately. The others followed his example and got into the SUV. Quatre put the keys in and turned the ignition just as they final door was shut.
" Do you even know how to drive?" Wufei asked him. " You're fifteen."
" And?" he raised a pale brow. " Rashid wanted me to learn if something happened and I needed to make a getaway on my own." With that he turned the reverse, pushed on the gas, and pulled out of the parking space. They were pulling off just as the two guards were rushing down the strip. They stopped when they saw they wouldn't be able to catch the car. There was nothing they could do now, besides either wait there at the Mall and hope they return or call Rashid and deal with their superior's wrath at the discovery they had lost Master Quatre.

They stopped the jeep directly in front of the high school and jumped out. " I told you that way wasn't a short cut!" Anubis admonished Rowen as they looked around. " You should listen next time Bluebird."
"How was I supposed to know that it was actually a dead end street?" the blue-haired boy asked. " And don't call me that!"
" Well, you should have listened!" Kento pointed out.
" Shut up!" Cye had finally taken all he could stand. He was stressed with worry about Sage and listen to the bickering between Anubis and Rowen was the last straw. They had more important things to deal with the petty lover squabbles, especially if his boyfriend was going to join in on them.
" Listen," Ryo stopped Rowen's retort from leaving his lips. They fell quiet and were able to easily pick up the sounds coming from the back of the building. It sound as if there was indeed a fight going on, a very big one at that.
" That sounds like there's quite a bit of people," Cye noted, his concern evident.
" And Sage is back there alone," Ryo reminded them. " He needs our help."
" Is it just me or is a storm rolling in really fast?" Rowen asked them all, staring up into the quickly clouding sky. The wind had already picked up and it seemed like a thunderstorm was coming upon them at the speed of the very lightning it treasured so. Ryo wasn't paying attention for he was already rushing towards the back of the school where the noise of fighting had originated.

He struck another Halfling with a kick to the chest, knocking him back into the sea of his kind. Sage didn't understand what the hell was going on. None of the creatures had fallen yet even though many sported wounds and such. A even had his head twisted around backwards due to a swift jump kick that the blonde had gifted him with while another was missing an arm that had been forcefully removed.
What am I going to do? He wondered. I can't keep going like this. There are just too many and they won't die! He knew of one last resort he had that would easily rid him of the filthy beasts, but he had been taught not to use it unless he had to. From the appearance of the battle, he did indeed need to call upon said resort. It would be his only chance of making it out of this victorious.
" That's it!" he shouted striking one of his attackers with enough force to knock him back and take another five down with him. " I've had enough!" A punch came out of nowhere, colliding with the side of his face, knocking the sunglasses tat he had somehow manage to keep off of his face. The black metal accessory was lost within the many rushing feet of the Halflings.
" Those were my favorite pair," he growled. Eyes changing from their lavender/blue shade to a fierce glowing green and fangs growing from his sharp incisors. The sight of this caused many of the creatures to step back, confused by this like a dog would be by a bright flashlight. Sage smirked at their hesitation. " Smart of you." He raised his hands, palms up, into the air and a sudden wind seemed to pick up. He felt it rise, the power within him. The brightness of his eyes only increased as he allowed it to gather.
The Vampire watched this from the roof of the school awning and he suddenly realized what was happening. " No!" he shouted out. " Attack him! He must not release his energy!"
The Halflings seemed to accept this and rushed towards the blonde, but it was already too late.
Clouds darkened in the sky and his seemed to stand on its ends, flowing with the aura he emitted. " Idiots," he murmured. He allowed his palms to turn over and his hands to fall to his sides and massive boom of thunder sounded through the air as an immense surge of energy shot from the blonde's body like electricity. It was almost as if it was a calling, a beacon reaching out to the storm, for as soon as it touched the sky a bolt of lightning struck down on its target. The Halflings were unable to run.
" Vi ladi wafg bisyud aw Noscdirr!" Sage shouted out. " Vi Ladi!"
Everything was devastated; the blinding light enveloped all of his opponents, as he too was lost within it. The Vampire stared in awe before he too was dragged into the unyielding brilliance

Ryou halted when he could no longer fight the increasing winds. He moved to the school as used it as a blockade to protect himself. He turned and noticed that his friends were doing the same, none able to withstand the tornado like tempest. He wished so badly that he could reached the sports fields so he could help Sage. How must the blonde be faring against this?
For a second he thought he heard shouting coming across with the wind, but the curiosity of that was immediately drowned out by the sudden burst of light that shot into the sky from behind the school. He eyes stared wide at the golden effulgence, unsure of what its effluence meant. Just as the light was absorbed into the stormy clouds above, another burst of energy, the most massive bolt of lightning he'd ever made witness to, shot down from where the other had come from, blanketing everything in a flood of power and energy.
Everything was covered in it and he could only yell out one last word that came form his mouth as he and the others were pulled in. " SAGE!!!"
*****
Duo reached his destination even through the raging winds that had sprouted from nowhere. It seemed as if they were only concentrated in one area, that being the school he had been heading towards. But he knew that this storm was not natural. He knew that something was about to happen for Nature herself to have felt the force of it. He only hoped that it wasn't anything that would destroy everything in its path.
He could feel his other half close by. But also felt waves of energy flooding the Link they had. It was almost painful with the amounts he was being fed. Just as he dropped his bike, not even caring for the kick-stand, the massive energy was released. Shooting up into the near black sky filled with clouds that were nowhere near natural. His eyes were wide in disbelief. He knew that energy, knew the power that flowed all around him.
He wouldn't! he told himself. He's knows that it is forbidden! He knew they were never supposed to exert the force of the power, especially that which was mystically endowed to them. But he could do nothing to stop the lightning from striking, nothing to stop the power from taking out the entire area and covering it in pure light. Even as he himself was taken along with it. " NO!!! SEIJI!!!!!"
A/N: See? Cliffy for you all! Hope you liked it.
Kathrine: The language that Sage uses is completely made up. We created it a few years back for a original story we started to write but had problems continuing.
JC: What he said means 'Be gone fowl vermin of Darkness! Be gone!'. Okay?
Kathrine: you'll be seeing more of this language as we go on and you'll find out why later.
JC: Now as we said, going to be updating other stories, but we NEED suggestions for CoH or else we're still stuck. We want to know what you want!
Kathrine: And the reason why the editing if bad is because we couldn't wait to post this any longer. But we skimmed and used Spell Check so we hope it's not TOO bad.
JC: So please review and tell us what you think! ^_^ And does anyone know where we could find a good Lord of the Rings' Quenya Elvish Dictionary?
