Gundam Wing Fan Fiction / Sailor Moon Fan Fiction ❯ Behind the Facade ❯ "A Sailor Scout!" ( Chapter 8 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

I'm back! With ch.8, of course. I'm not really sure how I did with this part(cuz it's action, and I'm just not good at action), but it had to be done sometime. At least I got it out of the way. N'wayz, I'd appreciate constructive criticism on this part more than anything so far, so I know how I'm doin', if ya don't mind. ^_^ And let me establish something here real quick. In the story, I obviously can't call Relena's universe the Gundam Wing universe, nor can I call the Sailor Scouts' universe the Sailor Moon universe, so I'm calling the GW universe the Omega Universe and the SM universe the Alpha Universe. Also, I kinda altered the history of the Silver Millennium a bit so Relena fits in better, as you'll see in the next chapter. Instead of Usagi/Serena being the leader, Relena ends up as the leader, k? Usagi/Serena's future self is still Neo-Queen Serenity, I'm just making Relena the main fighter/leader/character/etc. You'll see what I mean. And thanx to my best friend Raunie a.k.a. Makoto for beta-reading this, it's because of her that I'm even continuing to write this! Thanx! And thanx to everyone who's reviewed so far, you've helped and inspired me more than you can imagine! ^_^

Disclaimer: *ahem* I do NOT own Gundam Wing(if I did, d'you really think the series would've ended?), nor do I own Sailor Moon(that belongs to Naoko Takeuchi, who had BETTER hurry up with the next manga! *shakes fist at Ms. Takeuchi*). However, Richard and Dia(you'll see her in just a minute) *do* belong to me, and I'd appreciate it if you'd ask me before you use them(like you'd actually wanna use *my* dumb characters...).

~~~CHAPTER EIGHT-"A Sailor Scout!"~~~
~~~TWO WEEKS LATER~~~

"Ha ha ha!" Relena laughed merrily as she tumbled down the soft, grassy hill. She lay at the bottom, allowing herself to be out of breath, staring up at the sky. She smiled. She had gotten her mission done early and had happened to pass by a park/playground on her way home. Richard still didn't expect her back for another(she looked at her watch, which read 1:43 p.m.) five hours, which gave her time to relax for the first time in months. She sighed happily, closing her eyes. Life was good. The sky stretched on in an endless expanse of possibilities, while fluffy, white marshmallow clouds chased back and forth across the sea of blue. A sudden shadow fell over her face, and she squelched the urge to draw her newly-acquired gun. Steeling herself for anything, she slowly opened her eyes, blinking as they readjusted to the light. Above her, a pair of curious, blue-violet eyes blinked back at her. Taken aback, Relena stood up and turned to face the figure. It turned out to be a girl of roughly her own age, with blue-violet hair bordering on black(AN: Think Hilde/Noin) to match her eyes, which was tied back in a semi-french-braid that hung down to her waist. Mid-length bangs framed a slightly-boyish face, casting dappled shadows over her eyes. Her black jeans, which were rolled up at the bottom, and her black T-shirt might've given the impression that she was involved with some shady dealings, but Relena knew instinctively that she was trustworthy. There was a definite hint of mischief from the top of her head right down to her worn black hi-tops, especially in her twinkling eyes, but it was the kind that's fun and can be annoying to some people, hardly dangerous. They stood in silence for a few moments, appraising each other, until the girl spoke.

"Who are you?" Relena was surprised for the second time. The girl obviously had no qualms about being forward. Relena began to sense that she'd found a kindred spirit.

"In what sense?" she shot back, watching the girl's reaction. She was surprised for a third time when the girl laughed.

"Interesting answer." she said approvingly, stepping forward with her hand outstretched. "I'm Dia."

"Relena." Relena said, smiling, as she took Dia's hand and shook it warmly.

"You wanna play?" Dia asked, waving at the playground. Relena grinned, nodding.

"Sure!" The girls became instant friends. They found they had many things in common, like the troublesome "wild streak" they quickly saw that they shared. It also turned out that Dia was a fellow orphan.

"My parents died a long time ago, I don't even remember them. Mama Jolie and Papa Ashton, the Mom and Dad of my orphanage, have tried to find them, but since I don't even know my last name, we haven't been able to. I'm not even sure "Dia" is my real name." Dia said as they swung on the swings. Relena patted her shoulder sympathetically.

"Same here." Well, almost the same, she thought guiltily. The truth was, Richard and Trista had been telling her about the universe she was really from("I'm an alien!" she often said happily, continually making Richard shake his head and sigh, trying not to grin), the "Omega" Universe, ever since she had come. She knew all about her family, and she knew that the only relative she had left was a brother she'd never met, who was four years older than her. She knew who her parents had been, and that she was actually the Princess of what had been one of the most prosperous countries in the "Omega" Universe(until the Alliance attacked it). But her parents had died, and she'd had a hard time, so she supposed she could relate enough to offer comfort.

"Uh, Relena? Hello, Earth to Relena!" Dia's voice snapped the soldier-in-training out of the trance she had slipped into. She grinned sheepishly at the "you're weird!" look Dia had been giving her.

"Sorry, I do that sometimes." she said apologetically. Dia smiled.

"That's okay. Wanna play tag?" The day went on, and they played like the children they were. Relena stopped for a moment to look at her watch. She froze. Dia saw this and jogged back to her new-found friend.

"What's up?"

"Oh no!" Relena groaned, heading for her motorbike. "Richard's gonna kill me! I was supposed to be home ten minutes ago! Richard's my adoptive "Grampa"." she explained. She looked apologetically at Dia. "I gotta go. Why don't I meet you here around noon tomorrow and we can play some more?"

"That's perfect! See ya then!" Dia replied happily. Her smile dissolved in an instant as she looked up above and behind the blonde. She gaped in horror at what she saw. Relena looked at her quizzically.

"What?" She turned and looked up, eyes widening. She froze. Above her was a monster more horrible than her worst nightmare. It's yellowed fangs glinted in the evening sun, while it's long claws clacked together ominously. Evil vibes oozed from every part of its gruesome body, making it all the scarier. Its scaly blue skin seemed to crawl, sending a shiver up both girls' spines. But the eyes were the worst of all. They were a fiery red-orange, and they danced hypnotically, keeping the girls frozen. Relena was jolted out of her trance when the monster stepped forward, snapping a dry twig underfoot. The sound cleared her head, and she ran, grabbing Dia's hand and dragging her along. The monster growled dangerously, leaping forward to give chase.

"Run!" Relena yelled. Dia came to herself at her shout and ran faster. Relena let go of her hand and put on another burst of speed, while a wave of fear washed over her. They could hear the monster crashing through the trees behind them as they delved into the forest behind the park. Relena looked about frantically for some sort of weapon, her eyes darting back and forth rapidly, but all there was were some dead tree branches and her gun, and she knew somehow that neither would be much help against what she was dealing with. I need something, she thought desperately, anything! A set of words popped into her head and she uttered them without thinking. A circle with a complicated design appeared on the ground and stayed under her as she ran, while light shot down from the sky to form a bright column of light that surrounded her and stayed with her like the circle.

"Power of Sun, Power of Moon, Power of the Planets that spin eternally! Power of Darkness, Power of Light, know my plight! Your Child has returned, return Her powers so she may vanquish the Evil that threatens Her and the worlds She seeks to protect!!!"

Relena barely had time to wonder what she had said before she was enveloped in a bright white light. Spirals of brilliant color danced around her, and she was vaguely aware that her clothes had disappeared, only to be replaced by a suit that was unfamiliar, yet familiar at the same time. She felt soft gloves appear on her hands and something metal was suddenly attached across her forehead. She felt her shoes disappear, to be replaced a moment later by knee-high boots. When the light finally died away, she was facing the monster in the familiar attack position Richard had drilled into her. Dia and the monster were staring at her with a mixture of surprise and awe. When Relena looked down at herself, she was equally surprised. Her boots were a shimmery Navy-blue, and they glittered and sparkled pleasantly. From an inch below the top to the top, they were a beige that was also sparkly. There were identical designs on the front-center-top of the beige parts, but they could wait for later examination. Further up, she was wearing a pleated mini-skirt of the same glittery Navy as her boots, trimmed with the same beige. The skirt was attached to white, unidentifiable material, which covered her torso and the very top of her shoulders. Her gloves were made out of the same material, and came up to just above her elbows, and finished with three ring-like things of the same material that were the same Navy as the skirt and boots. Across her chest was a rather large bow of the same Navy, with a beige circle where the central knot would be. On the circle was a design identical to the ones on the boots. On her forehead was a golden tiara, which came down along her hairline in a very-slight V-shape. In the very center rested a beautiful oval-shaped gem that seemed to be a cross between a diamond and an opal. Her hair seemed to have been dusted with stars, for it glittered and sparkled. She had slipped into a trance, but it was broken when she heard a raspy whisper come from the monster.

"A Sailor Scout!" it whispered, still staring at Relena. Suddenly, it growled. Guess it's back to the chase, Relena thought. But she suddenly realized that she wasn't scared like she'd been before. She saw what happened next as if she was watching a movie from inside someone's head. Numbly, she watched her arms make an X across her chest, her right fist on the front of her left shoulder and her left fist on the front of her right shoulder. A transparent ball of blinding white energy formed at the spot where her arms crossed. It grew with each passing moment.

"White Lightning Shock!" she heard herself yell. Just moments before the monster slashed her with its claws, she released the ball. It flew forward, growing even more until it was bigger than the demon. It swallowed the hideous being and instantly filled with lightning. The monster screamed as the ball it was in got bright and brighter, until they could barely see the monster. The sound of lightning drowned out the monster's screams of agony, then it all burst into random bolts of lightning and disappeared. All that was left was a pile of bluish sand, which faded away a moment later. Relena and Dia stood in dumbfounded silence for seconds that stretched into minutes until Dia finally turned to Relena.

"Wha . . . ?" was all she managed to say. Relena shrugged, unable to manage any sound. Suddenly, Dia stepped forward and hugged her newfound friend. Not crying, not hysterical. Relena noted vaguely that Dia must've seen things far more frightening and traumatizing than what they had just witnessed to be this calm. They hugged until their respective heart rates had gone back down. They wordlessly agreed to meet the next day as they had planned and parted ways.

To Be Continued(maybe, YOU guys decide) . . .

Well, what d'ya think? BTW, do any of you have ideas for what I should call Relena as a Sailor Scout? I'm leaning toward Sailor Celestial, but I dunno. I *wanted* to call her Sailor Galaxy, but there's already a Sailor Galaxia, and it might seem unoriginal if I call her Galaxy. Any ideas?
