Disclaimer standers apply gw and sm belong to their rightful owners, and….I only own Kayla.
A/N: I don't often write one shots, so I've come up with more. Full blown sappy romance type stuff…and I'm debating on making this a full blown gw/sm storry with everyone in it not just Kayla and Heero. Also memories and mentions of the past war in this story refer to time stood still or did it, so look for that for answers as it progresses. They in many ways are intertwined.
Chapter 2
He groaned as he rolled on his back the bright sunlight blinding him the moment he opened his presion blue orbs. Blinking a few times he had to remember where he was and how he had gotten to be there. The groaning of a figure beside him broke him from his thoughts and the events of the night before came flooding back to him. “Kayla…” he whispered.
She sat up and smiled at him stretching her bones popping as she did so. “Good morning love, sleep well?” she asked as she planted a soft kiss on his cheek.
“Hai….I did…demo, you mean to tell me this isn't some dream?” he asked pinching himself to make sure it was real.
“iie Heero, this is quite real. I love you and you love me…. Remember?” she asked seeming hurt that he didn't seem to remember the events of the night before, or rather appeared to be blocking them out. But, then again she had to remember what he had been through and that in itself had made the biggest difference. Sliding over to him she hugged him close kissing him softly again. “Don't worry, I understand all of this might come as a shock to you, but remember that I'm here for you if you need me. “ she said reassuringly as Heero returned the hug.
“Thanks that means a lot.” Heero stated as he smiled that soft warm smile that up until now had been hidden from the rest of the world.
She sighed as she slipped out of bed testing her joints in her legs. Heero couldn't help but watch as she caused her bones to pop as she streached out the kinks from sleeping the night before. Slipping on a robe, she headed into the kitchen where she started to cook. Heero watched from behind her as she skillfully started the stove and their breakfast. “I'll be in the shower if you need me.” Heero told her as he kissed her hair softly.
At her quiet nod, Heero made his way to the bathroom and knelt down to turn on the water. Adjusting it to his liking he switched it from tub to shower before stepping in. The beating of the hot shower water stung at first, but as time progressed it became less and less. Millions upon millions of drops of watter pelted his body and as they did, memories came with it. As he washed his hair, he tried to will the memories away but with little to no luck. ::I am the perfect senshi void of any emotion right:: he begun to question himself in his mind, but no answers came only more questions. Ever since the wars had ended, and he had finally discovered he didn't have to kill anymore, heero had been questioning his life. Sighing now the shower water had gone from hot to freezing, he shut it off and found some boxers and his green shirt to change into.
By the time he exited the bathroom Kayla had breakfast placed on the table and an assortment of different types of drinks placed on the table. Pooring a cup of coke for herself, she flashed a smile at heero as he approached. Taking his seat he couldn't think of anything to say so he settled for poring himself a glass of orange juice. When he saw the slight limp when Kayla stood, was the time he chose to speak up. `Kayla chan daijobou?” he asked.
“Hai… I'm fine its nothing..” came her reply, but heero wished to press the issue more. Somehow her reply struck him as wrong, but he didn't know what to do.
“You sure sweetie?” he asked as he placed a loving hand on hers. ::sweetie? I called her sweetie:: he thought to himself never ever using such a term before, but having heard her refer to him as such when it appeared that he needed her. Liking the word used for him, he chose to use it on her not sure what exactly it meant. “I'm just concerned about you. From the first day I had met you I noticed you were blind, but I've also noticed your other problems. Even at times I've seen you in a wheelchair…. So want to tell me what's wrong.?” He asked.
She sighed to herself before sitting back taking her hands with his own. “Well you see….when I was very little, I was involved in a kind of an accident.” She started. “more like child abuse….at high levels. The end result…..a near death experience, and a lifetime of constant pain, lack of strength, and periods of time where I cant even stand on my own two feet without falling back down again two seconds later.” She finished keeping her story short and simple.
Even though he tried to hide it, a look of shock mixed with blind rage, and fear flashed across his normally emotionless features as his grip tightened on her hands. “I swear if I find the person or people responsible, I'll kill them and make sure they die a slow painful death.” He swore upon hearing her news.
“Heero koi, onegai calm down. Those people are long since dead, and you have to remember that this happened over 1000 years ago. You can't change the past, and at times I wish I could, but not even the senshi of space and time has that kind of power.” She said with a sad soft smile. She could see that this was hurting him. Ever since day one, he could never mask his thoughts, fears, and emotions from her. She couldn't figure out why, but she guessed that was why she loved him so. He reminded her so much of her, and everything she wanted to be more. He had a life, and no real childhood… trained to kill as far back as he could remember. The few memories of a time every happy long locked up and forgotten.
He sighed as his grip became loose once more and he returned to finishing his breakfast. He didn't like the idea of someone suffering like she had done, and it only brought up more memories. Although he tried to suppress them, the emotionless mask he had was starting to crack under the pressure. Now the wars were over, he had started to question his life, his emotions, and everything he did including breathe. He was wondering if the advice he had given trowa two years ago was even good enough to use himself. Often he never did fallow the advice he would give even if he was the one giving it. This advice however needed a lot of questioning on his part. Sighing he got up clearing and washing his own dishes before saying something about heading to the bedroom to change or something.
To say she was worried about him was the understatement of the year, but she had to respect him just the same. Last night he had opened up in a big way, but that wasn't enough and he would have more to do. But, for now Kayla could only wait and wonder if her new found love was going to be alright. Finishing her own food, she too cleaned up after herself and the kitchen where she had cooked as well as the table they had eaten off of. It wasn't much, and by the time she was finished her back was killing her.
Slipping into the bathroom she pulled some pain killer from the medicine chest before taking some and popping them in her mouth. Sighing she could hear Heero working out and what not. He was trying to get his life back into order, but everythin was happening so fast. The rush of emotion was something he wasn't prepared for, and so he didn't know how to act on it like he had told countless others to do in the past.
Stopping what he was doing he peered into the bedroom of the girl he loved watching her change. He had to admire her even now more so after knowing why she was the way she was. Yes, he was still outraged because someone so kind and pure had been hurt in such a way, but amazed on how well she reacted under pressure, that despite her limitations, she never seemed to want to give up. He guessed that's why he had stuck by her, why after all the times he said he would have killed her, he didn't wait.. that was Relina, that he had tried to kill, but now things were different now weren't they?
Watching his new found love interest he sighed. Here she was wincing in ovious pain even though she had just taken pain killers, but still she continued on doing things that looked like they hurt her a lot to do in her present state. Heero had come over to her and offered to help her, but Kayla being the strong girl that she had grown to try to be had refused him trying to convince him that she would be fine. It wasn't that Kayla didn't want Heero's help , or thankful for his offers, but it was just he seemed more or less in more pain emotionally and everything that she felt by letting him over do for her it would hurt him more then be of any kind of help. Smiling she motioned for him to sit with her, and Heero had complied as a smile tried to tug its way across his lips. “Just take it easy honey, this is alright and perfectly fine.” Kayla reassured as she snuggled against him as they sat there on the bed they had shared. She understood how Heero might have felt or might still be feeling due to personal experience that she didn't want to remember, but never the less it was still there something very hard to forget even though for the past few years before her death she had tried to get it under to control only to wake up in a war torn world and have it come back to her. She also knew that Heero's experances were through his life the first time, and she hopped the only time. She never wished this fate on her friends to have their minds, bodies , and souls frozen in time only to be broken in a time of war, to fight again, to fall in love, then risk losing it. However, the moment she realized she loved Heero, it all seemed worth it. Now she was glad more then ever that seal had been broken and this sweet war torn boy had fallen into her lap. Now it was a time of peace and healing not only for herself but for Heero as well. Smiling she pulled him into a soft love filled kiss like they had shared the night before, but their actions didn't go beyond it this time.
“Oh god Kayla chan, I love you so much.” He whispered to her, not even sure if he knew the true meaning of the word. Words that didn't involve any form of data code or anything resulting around a mission, Heero had trouble comprehending. He felt renewed every time he told Kayla that he loved her, even if it meant more to her then he could understand at the time. Resting his head on her shoulder after they had broken the kiss, he smiled his first true smile, and this time he didn't question it. ::good he is starting to heal:: Kayla thought as she noticed the ease in his body langue even though he himself didn't realize he made one.
“I love you too.” Came the verbal reply as she lifted her head to kiss him again. Smiling after pulling back, she was glad for once to find a calm relaxed nature about this strange boy. Once he had healed more, she hoped that they could make plans in stone and be married. She never could out right admit it, but those feelings had been plaguing her from the first day she came to the realization that she loved the senshi of ice and stone, Gundam pilot 01 as was his other code name. She had also learned that even though he went by the name Heero yuy, it was not his true name, but rather one given to him on the day he flew to earth for that first time. It was about half way through the war that they had met, but those memories were the ones that had made the most impression not just on Heero, but Kayla as well. For now they sat together holding one another secure in the fact that they loved one another. For them the healing was now beginning.
