Gundam Wing Fan Fiction / Sailor Moon Fan Fiction ❯ The Search for Happiness ❯ Destiny is Recieved ( Chapter 3 )
DISCLAIMOR: I OWN NOTHING.
----------------------------------
I've stayed at the orphanage for a long time. All that talk of someone adopting me led me to false hope. I was ten years old, and the people who took care of me said they couldn't imagine why someone like me wasn't adopted yet. At times I thought that statement of theirs had a hidden double meaning to it that I wasn't supposed to know about. I didn't care since I spent most of my time by myself anyway. No one talked to me, which suited me just fine. 'Poor little orphan girl,' that's most likely what they said about me.
One day I went out of the building for some air. My favorite place to go was under the base of the large oak tree. I often go there to think. Mostly, I thought about Nanashi, and how much I missed him. I wondered if he still remembered me, like he promised. I always remembered the fun, music, and laughing we had together. Then I recalled the day he left. One tear fell down my cheek at the thought of never seeing him ever again. It was cool outside, and my long, black hair blew gently in the wind, caressing my tears as they slid down my cheeks.
My peace alone was short, for the same kid that made fun of me and Nanashi, was making his way towards me with his friends.
"Hi there, Catrina," he said.
I was still mad at him, so I didn't answer. I glared at him as a warning, but he paid no heed.
"Still thinking about your friend? You know you'll never see him again!"
"You know I'm surprised a selfish cad like you is still around this place," I replied calmly. "After all, there are plenty of people in the world just like that, so I can't imagine why they wouldn't want you to share in their lives."
"Hey! You don't talk to me like that you hear?" he said as he pointed a finger at me.
"I suggest that you remove your finger out of my face before you loose it," I said as I crossed my arms. "Besides, what are you gonna do about it?"
"Is that a challenge?"
"Call it what you like, but I have no intentions in fighting you."
"Why not?"
"Because I hate to fight weaklings. Especially those who feel they have to fight just to prove their superiority or gain dominion over others."
At this he got furious. He started throwing punches at me, but I dodged every one. Every failed attempt just made him more angry, which made his movements more sloppy, and more predictable for me to doge.
"Now it's my turn!" I shouted. I ran up to him and did a mid-air kick right in his chest. When my foot was on it, I pushed back and did a back-flip, landing on my feet. He fell hard on the ground next to his friends who looked at me in awe. "Any one else?" I asked as I looked at them. They didn't answer. "I thought not."
Turning back to the building, I noticed an old man watching me. He looked familiar, but I paid no mind as I walked back to my room.
Sitting at my open window and let the breeze cool my face, I was lost in my thoughts. That's when my door opened, and the old man stepped in and sat next to me on a chair.
"Hello, there," he said. I didn't turn to look at him, or answer him "Your name is Catrina, right?"
I still didn't answer him. Instead, I went to the closet, grabbed my suitcase, and started packing.
"So where are you taking me?" I asked.
"You knew that I was going to adopt you? But how?"
"I just do."
"I knew that there was something special about you!"
I looked at him in confusion. What was he talking about? Nanashi said something to me about me being special and now this guy was saying it. I know I've seen him before. Haven't I?
He was a strange looking old man. He was balding in the front but that didn't prevent the rest of his silver whisps of hair from growing long in the back. The cane he leaned on looked about as old as the wrinkled hand that clutched it. However, he had no left hand, but it was replaced by a three-clawed metal arm that he once in a while would clink the claws together. I bet behind those dark glasses of his were piercing beady eyes that looked tired, but full of wisdom.
We left the orphanage. The ride, to wherever he was taking me, was boring. It reminded me of that annoying man who took me to the orphanage when I was released from the hospital. He kept talking, and talking, but I hardly listened. Something about space, training, OZ, and powers. Then he said something that caught my attention.
"...that's when I figured I'd come back for you since you were with that young boy."
Instantly, I turned around and said, "I knew it! You're the man who took Nanashi away from me! Wait, if you adopted him and me, then that means I can see him again! May I see him?"
"No, absolutely not. If you were paying attention, I said that you'd be training and not socializing. Socializing and gaining friendships will appear to be a sign of weakness in the eyes of the enemy, and they will use your loved ones against you for their own advantage. I've seen it done too many times, and I won't let it happen to you. You will be given strict orders and you're expected to follow them in order to complete your mission."
"Mission?"
"I shall explain in a moment."
We were at a space port, and we headed towards a space shuttle.
"Are we going into space?" I asked.
"Yes, we are. It's a private shuttle so I can explain to you more why you are here."
We went inside the shuttle and sat down taking the window seat. It was a rough ride at first, and I closed my eyes fearing the whole shuttle would fall apart. Then the ride was smooth, and I opened my eyes. When I looked out the window the view was remarkable!
"The earth is so beautiful!" I exclaimed.
"Yes my child. Never forget how beautiful the earth looks from a far."
"Sir? You know my name, but I don't know yours."
"How silly of me! I must be loosing it! My name is Dr. J. Speaking of names, I need to give you one."
"But I already have a name. Isn't Catrina all right?"
"Catrina is a lovely name, but we need to give you a code name. The reason for that is so no one will know your true identity. It's for your own protection. Therefore your new name is Rei Hino."
"Rei Hino, huh? Dr. Jay, tell me what's this thing about OZ?"
"OZ is seeking to take over the colonies in space. They claim that they are relieving the colonial citizens from the previous rule of the United Earth Sphere Alliance, but that is far from the truth. They plan to govern the people with a heavy hand just as the alliance did, perhaps even more. Therefore we need to have certain ones to protect the colonies. We already have five young men who are fighting. We need five more. You are the sixth person."
"Doctor, you mentioned something about powers."
"Yes, while the five boys have Gundams, the five girls will have special powers. You are familiar on what a Gundam is aren't you?"
"Yes, it's supposed to be the most powerful mobile suit. OZ is afraid of Gundam because of its power, that's why they're trying to eliminate them."
"Good, that's exactly correct. I shall explain your powers once we get to our base."
The rest of the journey was in silence. I had never been in space before, so I enjoyed experiencing the sensation of weightlessness. When I went back to my seat I looked out the window and saw the moon. It was a wonderful sight, much brighter up here than on Earth. I looked at all the stars shining brightly and wondered of my future. What destiny lied for me within the stars? Dwelling on these thoughts I began to drift to sleep.
When I awoke we were preparing to land on a space colony, apparently where the base was. I had a strange dream. All I could remember was heat, intense heat. When I awake I was sweating.
"Are you all right Rei-san?" Dr. Jay asked.
"I'm fine. Just had a dream."
He led me to the base.
"This is our headquarters. I'm sure you'll enjoy the accommodations."
It was quite impressive. The so-called 'base' was a mansion, very well kept and the landscape well designed. (a/n: just think of the school for gifted youngsters in the movie X-men)
When we were inside I asked, "Does anyone else live here?"
"Yes, all who are training live here. Including your friend."
"I wish I could see him," I said softly.
"Training is essential for preparing you youngsters for the trials ahead. Your schedule will be tight, so even if you wanted to see him, you wouldn't be able to."
"You hear pretty well for an old man."
"And you have a witty tounge, an intelligence, and an intricate way of thinking for a little girl."
"Touche."
"You're a little spit-fire, aren't you?"
My room was gigantic. The furniture was made of mahogany, the windows were stained glass, and the bed was so soft that you would think you'd fall through. I looked next to the bed and there was a cord with tassels on the end.
"What's this for?" I asked.
"Room service of course."
"Wow, I could get used to this."
After I finished unpacking, I was led down the hall and into a very, very large room filled with equipment.
"This is where you'll be training. Also, this is where your powers come in." He went to a desk and rummaged around. He came back with a red pen. On the top of the pen was a symbol. "This is your morphing pen. This symbol at the top is the symbol of the planet Mars. To transform shout Mars Star Power! Now say it!"
"Wait a minute! Transform? Into what?"
"Time is of the essence child! There's no time for questions that will be answered on their own."
"Whatever." I took the pen held it up, and shouted, "Mars Star Power!" Where the sign of Mars was, it began to glow, and fire came streaming out from it. I was then surrounded by it, I could see flames embracing every part of me. Just when I thought I couldn't take it any longer, the flames disappeared.
"It's just like in my dream!" I said. "Something to do with fire! That's why I woke up sweating!"
He looked at me, but didn't speak.
"What?" I asked tapping my foot. As I did so I found that I heard a `click'. I looked down and saw I was wearing red, high-heel shoes. Not only that but a white suit with a red mini-skirt and collar, a big purple bow in the front, a red bow in back, white gloves to the elbows with red on the ends, a red choker, red star earrings, and a gold tiara with a red stone in the middle.
"What on Earth? What's going on? What's this all about?"
"My dear, you are the Champion of Justice, Sailor Mars! Well, one of the champions," he said with a shrug. "All your power comes from that morphing pen, so it's important that you have it with you at all times. Just don't do one thing," Dr. Jay replied.
"What is that?"
"Don't press the symbol of the planet. It trigures a self-detonation device."
"Thanks for the advice, but I seriously doubt I'll be taking my own life. I'm not a coward, hoping to take the easy way out of things."
Training thus began, and as time passed, I was on my way to becoming a new lethal weapon of which OZ would cower in fear.

And so a new star is born! However, you may ask what chance do Sailor Scouts have against mobile suits? I mean, the enemy could just step on them and game over right? Well not exactly. Just think of the Sailor Scouts of having an advanced power thanks to technology and the power of their own hearts. Still don't get it? Ok, think of it as the DBZ-fighters (the scouts) going against a giant armored tank (mobile suits) No problemo! OK now after reading that little explanation, GO REVIEW!!!
