Tokyo, Japan
Lita stifles a cry as sharp waves of pain race through her ankle. I'm getting careless. I should watch where I'm going or he might notice me.
For the last half-hour, she has been following the mysterious boy who calls himself Heero Yuy. So far, he has led her through most of downtown Tokyo, including the market, mall, and metro, and she still hasn't learned a thing.
Who is he? He shows absolutely no emotion, no one stops him on the streets, and even his friends seem weary of him. This Heero is so cold, like winter itself. Lita frowns as Heero turns down a back alley. He also seems to have nothing better to do with his time!
Lita winds around the corner, sticking to the shadows, following Heero closely. Suddenly, a quick blur crosses in front of her, making her blink.
What the…?
Lita feels cold steel press up against her. A strong solid body comes up from behind her. Hot breath rolls down her neck. A hand reaches up and grasps her hair, pulling on it harshly.
"Why are you following me?" says a cold voice from behind her.
Lita's voice freezes in her throat and she feels her body tighten. "I…"
"Tell me, or you're dead."
Is he serious?
She hears the sound of the hammer snap and jumps. Gee, I guess so. Well then Heero Yuy, let's see if your bite is as bad as your bark.
With a loud yell, she pushes away her fear and grabs the hand that is holding the gun to her head. The boy's body behind her stiffens in surprise and she smiles. With a strength that would surprise anyone who didn't know her, she throws Heero over her head and into the nearest brick wall.
That should take care of him! Huh?
Heero stands up quickly. Throwing away his gun, he leaps into the air and over her head. Lita barely turns around in time to block a savage kick that sends her flying backwards. Not to be outdone, she quickly recovers and takes a swing at Heero's cheek, her nails point4ed outward. Her hit leaves a long streak of red against Heero's face. Before he can react, Lita swings around behind him and kicks him in the back, forcing him to his knees.
Heero props himself up with one arm and rubs his cheek. "Enough." With a movement too fast for Lita's eyes to follow, Heero shoots up into the air. Lita gets ready to turn around again, but doesn't have time as Heero hits her dead on, sender both of them to the ground.
His hands are locked onto her shoulders and his knees pin down her legs. No matter how much she struggles, escaping from his harsh grip is impossible.
Heero's face is extremely close to hers, close enough that she can feel his breath on her cheeks. His dark, Prussian blue eyes bore into hers, making her feel like she is falling into a bottomless pit. For a moment, it seems as if his eyes lose their icy coldness, revealing an inner warmth, but the moment is over before she can be sure.
"Try that again, and I will kill you." With those words, he lets her go. With a sigh of relief, Lita allows her head to fall back and her eyes to close, listening to the sound of Heero's receding footsteps.
Heero leaves the girl lying where she has fallen, waiting until he is around the corner to place a hand to his bleeding face.
Not bad. I'll have to be more careful of her. She is a lot stronger than I thought. Why didn't she run? Even Relena never stuck around to see if I ever carried out my threats, much less actually fight me. Who does that girl think she is?
Ami's breath comes in short gasps, her feet pounding on top of hard concrete, short blue hair falling into her eyes. Tori and his gang have chased her across the schoolyard and are beginning to gain on her. Usually, she is able to either out run them or outsmart them, but for some reason, their endurance seemed to be getting much better.
Don't they ever give up? I don't understand why then insist on carrying on like this; it's so juvenile.
A hand reaches out and grabs the back of her shirt, whipping her around. Ami finds herself facing Tori's grinning face.
"What do we have here?" Tori asks mockingly. "It looks to me like our little bookworm is afraid." Tori lifts her chin, jerking her head up so that she is staring him in the eyes. "Well Ami, are you afraid?"
Ami's face hardens, her eyes icing over. "Of you? Of course not!"
"Why you little…"
Tori is cut off as he is pulled backward by and unseen force. Before he can blink, he is on the ground, bleeding heavily from split lip and broken nose.
Ami watches in amazement as Trowa quickly disposes of the other gang members with very little effort.
When he is finished, he turns back to her. "Are you okay?"
Ami nods. "I think so."
Trowa stares at her for a moment, looking thoughtful. Finally, he sighs and turns away. "Come with me."
Ami, not knowing what to do, follows him towards the back of the school. The whole time, he is silent, not saying a word. Finally, the two reach the large cherry tree in the center of the court.
Trowa leans up against the trunk of the tree, facing her. "Who were they?"
Ami looks at him skeptically for a moment, but finally answers. "Tori and his friends are part of a gang at school. They enjoy picking on people who can't fight back. Usually, I can outrun them, or simply outsmart them, but today, I wasn't so lucky. Lita and Rei also help, but I couldn't find either today."
"I see." A small smile twitches at the corner of his lips before he steps into a fighting stance. "Lets see how well you fight Ami."
"What!"
"You have to stop relying on others to get you out of situations like that. It's nice when they're around, but what happens when they aren't there? You must learn to rely more on yourself and trust your own abilities."
Ami stares at him, shocked that he could even say such a thing.
Trowa relaxes slightly and sighs. "Ami, I'll teach you, but only at your consent."
For a moment longer, Ami stands still, but finally closes her eyes and nods. "You're right." She drops her school bags and stands facing Trowa. "Alright."
"Let's begin."
Wufei pauses for a moment to wipe a bead of sweat off his forehead which as been threatening to fall into his eyes. Although he is still stiff, most of his wounds have been healed for many days. For the past week, he has been training in the temps, regaining the strength he had lost.
Suddenly, he sees Rei passing by through a crack in the door.
"Hey onna! Could you get me some water?"
Rei scowls, but quickly complies. "You could let me train with you, it would be much more effective."
Wufei takes a sip of water. "Absolutely not! I don't need some weak onna like you telling me how to fight."
"Why you stubborn…" Rei stutters, trying to think of a reply, but gives up and leaves the room.
After taking another sip of water, Wufei begins where he had left off. Just one more day and I can go join the others. After that, I don't have to see this annoying woman ever again!
"Damn, not again!" Mina dives behind a pillar, using it for cover, the barrel of her laser gun resting on her chin. If I get hit again, I'll lose. I have to beat three thousand!
Taking a deep breath, she moves out form behind her shelter and shoots at a large holographic monster, hitting it for another 400 points.
The voice of the computer comes on over the speaker. "Now entering level eight."
This is it, the final level. I'm almost through.
Mina jumps back as a monster comes at her. She jumps over it and shoots it in the back. Before she can let out another shot, another three come at her from the right. Quickly, before she can be hit, she dives behind a conveniently placed rock.
Shit, this is going to be much harder than I thought.
The speaker crackles. "Another player has entered the game."
Another player?
A figure jumps in front of her field of vision, taking down two of the holographic enemies. The figure lands easily on its feet. Mina stares at the person in amazement. There were very few people who could move like that. She could not tell if the person was male or female under the many layers of equipment, but whoever he or she was, they were very good.
Mina smiles as the figure takes out another opponent. I don't know who you are, but you're good. Let's see how you compare to the best!
Mina leaves her hiding place and stands back to back with the stranger. The two move together in a deadly dance, taking down monsters and covering for each other. Mina begins to loose herself the dance, her body automatically making the movements.
Just as she finishes with the last of the creatures, the scene around them disappears and florescent lights flicker on. Mina yanks a helmet off her head and stares up at the scoreboard. As she gazes up at the flashing numbers her eyes widen.
Five thousand!
The other player moves to her side, and pulls off his own helmet. Quatre smiles at her and runs a hand through a mass of sweaty hair. "Good game Mina."
Serena stands over the girl's body, watching her chest rise and fall. She had taken her to the hospital when she had found her on a deserted playground.
Who could do this to a child?
Serena moves aside the covers. The energy had been drained out of her, leaving her like an empty shell, her eyes staring uncomprehending into endless space. Normally, she would have said it was the negaverse, but the negaverse has never needed a gun.
Gently, she touches the small bandage around the girl's arm where a bullet had been removed an hour earlier.
I will find out who did this.
Relecos: Black Woods
Hotaru quietly follows Duo through the forest, staring at the rich, green foliage around her. It has been nearly two days and they still haven't found and exit to the endless sea of trees.
On the plus side, Duo is a bit more cheerful. Since they had left Draco's, his step had become lighter and he seemed to smile more often. Although, after the tenth chorus of 'Ninety-nine Bottles of Beer on the Wall', Hotaru is about to scream.
"Duo."
"Eighty-six bottles of beer on the wall…"
"Duo!"
"Eighty-six bottles of beer…"
"DUO!"
"What! Sheez, you don't have to yell, I can hear you just fine."
Hotaru sighs but can't keep a smile from her face. "Could you please stop? I'm getting a headache."
"Sorry."
"It's okay."
A long pause follows, not a single sound can be hear throughout the whole forest. I never though silence could be so deafening. I think the singing was better.
"So where are you from?" Duo asks, breaking the silence.
"Tokyo."
Duo's mouth drops open in surprise. "Tokyo, Japan?"
"Yes."
"No way!"
"Are you saying that I'm lying? I've lived there all my life and I don't appreciate… What are you staring at?"
Duo is looking at her closely, as if seeing her for the first time or noticing something that wasn't there before. Finally he swallows deeply. "Hotaru, what day was it when you left?"
"August 29, why?"
"What year?"
"2002."
"That's impossible! Shit!"
Hotaru stares at him, her eyes showing a little more concern. "Duo, what's wrong? You look like you've seen a ghost."
"Maybe I have. Where I come from, we stopped using the A.D system about seven hundred years ago!"
Hotaru stops walking, nearly tripping over a branch in her surprise. "But how…?" Could Pluto have something to do with this?
"I don't know."
Duo continues walking, leaving Hotaru to follow. Another long moment of silence stretches out, both of them preferring to stay quiet and let the shock sink in.
"So, what's going on in your time?" Hotaru asks.
Duo sighs. "We just got finished with a war."
"Oh, sorry. Was it bad?"
"Very. It was finally won by a group of pilots and their Gundams."
"Huh?"
Duo smiles kindly at her. "Very large robot-like machines used for war. They shot down a fortress in space known as Libra and won the war." Duo's face becomes downcast, as if the memories cause him great pain. "They won, but at a great cost. Many lives were lost and the war had effected everyone, emotionally as well as physically."
"In the end, the Gundam pilots destroyed their Gundams, thinking that such machines for destruction would never be needed again, but that was a mistake. A terrorist group rose up from the ashes and threatened to pick up where the war left off."
Hotaru stares at him, sudden realization dawning. So much pain. Even if he wasn't a soldier, he still must have suffered so much. I know how he feels; I too grow tired of fighting.
"Sorry Duo, I shouldn't have mentioned it."
Duo only shrugs as if it's nothing. "Must be more peaceful in your time."
"Yes, for some. There are no wars, but monsters appear every so once in a while."
"Monsters?"
"Yes. Do you recall a small group of people know as the Sailor Scouts, or Sailor Senshi?"
"Vaguely."
"Well, they fight to protect the people of Earth from whatever evil forces are out there. They fight hard, but give up a normal life in the process."
"Sounds tough."
A crack of thunder ripples through the air and a streak of lightning flashes through the afternoon sky. Rain begins to come down in torrents, feeding the dry land. Hotaru puts a hand to her forehead, trying to keep the rain from getting into her eyes and limiting her eyesight.
"Shit," Duo mutters, adjusting the hat on his head. "Come on, let's see if we can find shelter."
Hotaru follows Duo along a well-worn path near the river, trying her best to keep up while at the same time watching her step. Small shapes come rushing toward them.
Okay, those definitely aren't squirrels. What are they? "Duo! There's something following us!"
Duo shouts back, his voice being carried away by the driving winds. "I know, they've been following us for about a day and a half. Get your glaive ready!"
Hotaru, not in a mood for arguing does as Duo tells her to do. The first of the strange creatures comes into view. It is incredibly small, about half her height, with bluish skin and ratty, grimy, brown hair. Horns protrude from his head and rows of sharp, jagged, yellow teeth can be seen peaking out form its mouth. From where she is standing, it's skin appears to be scaly, serving as a natural armor.
Raising her glaive, Hotaru swings at the first one, cutting it across the stomach. Another one comes at her from behind with a stone hammer. She kicks it as hard as she can, sending it flying. Two more come form the same direction and Hotaru rids herself of the pests with a single sweep of her glaive. Where are they all coming from?
Hotaru has long since lost sight of Duo in the masses of bodies surrounding her and can feel her body expiring. This fight is lasting far too long. I don't have much energy left. She feels the heel of her right foot encounter the bank of the river.
I guess I have no choice. I'll just have to hope that Duo's nowhere nearby. "Saturn Crystal…"
One of the strange creatures comes out in front of her before she can begin her transformation and with a rough shove, pushes her into the rivers raging waters.
Water flows into her mouth, threatening to gag her and rough current pulls her under. Not for the first time in her life, Hotaru finds herself wishing she had Ami's or Michelle's aptitude for swimming. She struggles to make it back to the surface, but the current only pulls her further under, engulfing her.
Hotaru feels the air escaper her lungs as her back and head hit the river bottom. Dimly, she sees her own blood mixing with the water around her. Darkness begins to close in around the edges of her vision and her struggles cease. Somewhere in her semi-conscious mind, she realizes that she is drowning, but her body refuses to answer her minds frantic commands to swim.
Then there is something in the water behind her. Strong arms wrap gently but firmly around her waist and begin to tow her to the surface. Her head breaks the water and her lungs try to take in air, but only succeed in sending her into a coughing fit.
Suddenly, she feels firm ground beneath her. Someone is standing over her, but she can't seem to recall a name. The person mutters something before she feels herself being lifted.
With each step, a wave of pain courses through her body. Not yet, I can't… Hotaru can fight no longer, and soon, allows the darkness to claim her.
Duo runs swiftly through the forest, trying not to jostle the limp body in his arms. Finally, he nears a rock ledge that looks as if it will offer some comfort from the rain. He gently sets Hotaru down on the ground and begins to search through the bag that Draco had given him, hoping to find something resembling matches. After a thorough search, he finds two rocks that look like they might be flint.
Nothing to burn. Duo searches the ground, but finds nothing dry enough to start a fire with. Grumbling, he searches his pockets and finds a wad of money. I suppose I won't need this here. Using the flint, he sets the money ablaze.
Carefully, he makes his way back to Hotaru. She is shaking from the cold that is biting her, the soaked cloths not helping any. Not knowing what else to do, he pulls her against him and wraps his arms around her, the blood on her heat soaking into his shirt.
She's just an ordinary girl, or at least she's trying to be. He smiles, a sudden realization coming to him. She may have a few odd attributes, but she's still as vulnerable as the rest of us. I hope whatever magic she has can heal her in such a weak state because I think I may owe her an apology.
The shock of intense pain when she awakes is enough to make Hotaru gasp. Even though her healing abilities are powerful, her head still feels like a sledgehammer has hit it. Her lungs are burning and taking a breath causes more pain than she is willing to deal with.
A low moan escapes her lips and she carefully shifts her weight. Strong arms tighten around her. Slowly the pain recedes, leaving her exhausted and shaking, her energy spent.
She opens her eyes, the blurry picture clearing. A pair of worried blue eyes stare down at her. She is cradled in Duo's arms and her head is resting on his chest. Rock and stone surround them. A fire still smolders nearby, adding a bit of warmth to contrast the scene of the dreary storm outside.
"Hotaru? Are you okay?"
With a groan, Hotaru tries to get up. Duo's arms loosen their hold, but don't release her. "I think so. I'm a little tired, but nothing serious."
Hotaru looks up at his face to see him smiling. He seems different. It looks as if he's not…
"Duo, are you afraid of me? Do you think that I'm some kind of freak?"
Duo leans back against the ledge, thinking for a moment. "When I first met you, yes, I was a little scared. I'm from a world where technology and machines are a way of life. Something like what you do, magic or whatever it is, is a long forgotten memory. I was a little skeptical."
"And now?"
"Now I see you're not that different form me, and I can trust you to watch my back." Duo pauses a moment and his smile broadens. "Besides, traveling with a cute girl like you definitely has its perks."
"Duo!" Hotaru pushes him away, laughing. She stares towards the direction of the forest in time to see the first brilliant rays of sunlight strike the forest floor.
"Come on Duo, it looks like the storm has passed, let's see if we can find this city."
Hotaru steps outside and gasps pleasantly surprised. "Duo! Come out here!"
At the bottom of the hill, the forest ends and the walls of a large city span the distance.
"Looks like we made it," Duo says, coming to stand beside her.
"Let's go!"
The two begin to make their way down the hill; the thick foliage becoming sparser as they go.
After about three miles, Duo begins to whistle, which soon has him singing again.
"This is the song that never ends…"
Hotaru is about to say something, but stops herself. It's going to be a long trip, but I get the feeling that it will be one to remember.
Tokyo, Japan
Ami is hunched over her computer, a pencil in her mouth and a worried expression on her face. Since the very troubling meeting at Rei's temple, Ami has been on a constant lookout for negative energy in the city. Since the energy of the little girl had been drained, more and more people were showing up in the hospital for the same reason.
This makes no sense. Why are they o hard to track? If I didn't know any better, I'd say that whatever is doing this is human and not from the negaverse at all, but their victim's energy is being sucked dry. Something odd is going on here.
The loud beeping of her data computer pulls her from her thoughts. A map of Tokyo appears on the screen. The screen zooms in on an apartment complex in the downtown area.
"Gotcha!"
Ami leans over and yanks out her communicator. After pressing a button with a symbol resembling the number four, Lita's face appears on the screen.
"I've found one Lita, and it's moving toward you as we speak."
"Thanks Ami, I'll be ready for it."
"I'll call the others and meet you down there."
Heero stares at the computer screen, watching as long rows of numbers flash before his eyes. He has finally managed to get the system updated. The system he has created allows him access to every computer system in the city. All except one. There is one computer he had found yesterday that for some reason, he could not hack into. The only information he has is that it is a private computer and not part of a network.
Who in the hell owns this thing? The technology used here is far to advanced for this age. Whoever set this up has walls that not even I can penetrate. This person must be a fucking genius.
Suddenly, Heero stops typing. The sound of a small click going off makes him turn around and glance at the air vent. Immediately, he powers down the system, not bothering to save the information. Without hesitation, he makes a desperate dive for the only window in the room, slamming through the glass just as a wall of fire consumes the room.
Heero catches the railing to the fire escape to slow his descent to the floor five stories below. For a moment, he hangs suspended in the air, one hand grasping the laptop, the other grasping the bar.
"Heero!" calls a voice form below. "You okay?"
Heero releases his grip and falls to the ground in the middle of a wide alley, absorbing the impact with practiced ease. With only a little pain he manages to stand up.
"Are you okay?" Quatre asks again.
"Hn."
The rear door to the apartment opens and Wufei runs out, carrying his precious katana. "It looks like nothing's damaged except our apartment."
"Well at least that's good news." Quatre says relieved.
A gun shot rings from further down the alley. Trowa runs out from the shadows, seeming a little out of breath. Sweat is trickling down his face and the left side of his shirt is wet with blood. The gun in his left hand is still smoking.
"We have a small problem guys."
Seven figures emerge form the alley, quickly moving in the boys' direction. Heero's eyes narrow as he catches sight of the blood red uniforms. Red Wings, but how did they get here? I knew this was too good to be true.
Heero already has his gun out, ready to fire. The first soldier goes down before he even knows what hit him. Another falls to the sharp blade of Wufei's katana. Trowa, now out of bullets, settles for a throwing knife and takes down two more. Quatre apologizes as he takes out the fifth one. Heero moves up behind a large garbage bin and pushes it into the path of the remaining two soldiers. The final soldiers fall unconscious into the trash bin.
Heero turns around to look around the alleyway, waiting for more soldiers, but none ever came. "Something's wrong here. That was way too easy. They should have know better than to send only seven soldiers after us."
"Trowa," Quatre asks cautiously, "did they chase you into this alley?"
Trowa's eyes widen with dawning comprehension. "Yes. Then this was all…"
"A trap," says a voice from the rooftops. The figure sinks into the roof itself, disappearing from sight entirely. Quatre jumps back as the figure reappears, moving up through the solid concrete street. Heero stares at the newcomer with contempt. A feminine body wrapped up in a black suit with a black hood and high-heeled boots that makes her look like a ninja stands before them. Her eyes are only black holes, containing dark nothingness.
Heero smiles evilly and raises his gun. Pressing the trigger rapidly, he releases a savage attack. The monster reels back, but only laughs at the vain attempt. Heero scowls as he sees the results of his effort. What is this thing? Heero drops his gun, realizing that it will be useless.
"Guns don't work," Heero says, stating the obvious.
With a barbaric yell, Wufei severs one of the woman's arms with his katana. Again, the woman only laughs. A hot looking blue-black liquid covers the area where the limb had been and solidifies, leaving a new limb in its place.
"Would anyone else like to try. No? I didn't think so." She sends a pair of throwing stars in Wufei's direction, catching him in the shirt just above the shoulders, pinning him to the wall.
"Damn," Wufei mutters, staring at the creature with pure hatred on his face. The creature reaches out a gloved hand and grabs his neck. Suddenly, Wufei lets out a cry of pure pain and agony. A faint red light surrounds him and appears to flow into the creature. Heero can only look on stunned, as Wufei's struggles become weaker.
A crack of thunder echoes through the alleyway. Heero sees a streak of light shoot past him and hit the creature in the stomach. The strange woman cries out in pain, staring down at the blackened area of her body.
"Who did that?"
"I did," cries a voice from behind him. Heero turns to see a girl dressed in a green and pink fuku with green boots and a tiara. Her hands are on her hips and she looks angry. "I am Sailor Jupiter, defender of everything that is good. I don't know who you are, but I can't let you take anyone's energy tonight. No more people shall die in this city."
Just then, the girls catches sight of Heero and her eyes widen. Heero stares back at her. His eyes narrow, studying the stranger before him. Do I know you?
The girl shakes her as if trying to clear her head then focuses back on the creature. "I'm done playing games."
"Jupiter, Oak Evolution!"
The creature dodges the attack, still grabbing her stomach. Two more throwing stars are tossed, catching Sailor Jupiter in the sides. She soon finds herself pinned to the wall. The monster moves in, her cruel face glaring at the scout in hatred.
"That is the last mistake you will ever make." The monster reaches for her, reaching for her neck.
"Mars, Flame Shooter!"
The creature cries out again in pain as a fiery arrow is hurled her way. Six more girls are now standing at the end of the alley, ready for a fight.
"You won't get away with this," cries the one in the red and blue. "I'm Sailor Moon, and in the name of the moon, I will punish you!" (Never did like that speech…)
This alley is starting to get a little crowded. Heero watches as one by one, each scout releases an attack. Who are these people? What world have we been dropped into? Heero's thoughts are interrupted by the sound of the girl who calls herself Sailor Jupiter trying to get out of her restraints. With a sigh of frustration, Heero makes his way over to her and yanks out the throwing stars.
"Thanks," she mutters.
Dimly, he hears the sound of another attack. One of the girls holds up a mirror which causes a blast of water to come gushing out.
"Sailor Moon!" cries Jupiter. "Use your scepter!"
The girl in the red and blue with the weird hair nods. "Rainbow Moon Heart Ache!"
A blinding light fills the area and Heero is forced to close his eyes. When the haze finally clears, the strange girls are gone and the four boys are left standing alone.
"What the hell was that?" Wufei asks.
I have no idea. (Sorry if this last part was really bad, but I'm getting really tired of typing)

Meanwhile at the Time Gate…
Rena: * is sitting on a large hunk of rock, a big yellow construction helmet on her head. She is bent over a piece of paper that looks like a set of instructions. * I think maybe that piece is supposed to go over there.
Pluto: Whatever you say. * Lifts a large slab of rock and places it on top of a large pile of larger rocks. *
The rock on the bottom of the pile begins to shake, straining under the heavy weight.
Pluto: Uh oh. * Drops her staff and makes a run for the large boulder Rena is sitting on. The two of them sit as they watch their hard work crumble to the ground. * Right there huh?
Rena: Well, it was only a theory.
Pluto: Now what genius?
Rena: * shrugs* We begin anew!
Pluto: What! But that took days! I'm the one doing all the work. What exactly do you do?
Rena: I supervise.
A loud noise can be heard coming from one of the many tears in the fabric of time.
Rena: Uh, Pluto, and what exactly does that sound signify?
Pluto: Something's coming through…
A large red-orange shape appears.
Rena: What, is that!
Pluto: Well let's see, lizard like, breathing fire, wings, horns… I'd say that's a dragon.
Author: * comes in and looks up at the dragon. Smiles. * Finally! I was wondering when he would get here.
Pluto: You summoned him?
Author: Yes. I figured since the dimensional gate was open, I might as well have some fun while it was available. I figured Demos here could be of some help.
Rena: You what! Do you realize that that is a huge beast about the size of a ten-story building! Do you know…?
Demos: * lets out a jet of fire, hitting Rena. Rena's hair blackens and her wings char to a crisp. *
Author: Yup.
