The Year Long Contest, Months 1&2 Chapter 15: Dinomania

The day started out normally enough, but something wasn't quite right. First, there was a letter on each door that read, 'Report to your team huts immediately. Be dressed to fight, and bring all weapons with you.'
"I have a really bad feeling about this," Kuwabara stated, stepping back from the door.
"Yeah, me too, and where's Relena," Matt then asked. None of them had felt her leave the bed, so what was going on? Worried as hell, and taking the note to heart, the Filipino loaded up all of his weapons, and started to put them on. Quirking a brow at him, the other boy in the room asked, "Are you sure you can carry all of that?"
"Yes, I've done so before." This surprised the others hugely, but before they could say anything, someone knocked on the door. It was Heero, and he was there to pick up Relena. Glaring towards the loaded weaponry, he gave an accusing look to Matt, who responded, "I didn't do anything to her. She was gone before we got up."
"Yeah, we didn't even feel her leave! It was like, poof! She's gone," Serena explained, understanding who they were talking about. Sighing, the Japanese boy left and headed off outside with his team mates. Though not without saying to the black-haired boy, "Nice guns."
Another knock soon came, but this time it was Sahar, who looked more than concerned right now. Finally carrying all of his equipment, Matt headed out the door, and waited for his group to gather up.

Everyone was leaving their rooms at an uneasy pace, and none knew what was going on. Not even those with psychic abilties were able to tell. Instead of knowing, they felt abandoned and lost. /Looks like most of my group has gathered up. Damn! Matt really does have a shit load of guns, / Wachey thought as she walked over to her group. She hadn't brought any weapons, and it appeared that none of her other teammates, besides Matt, had either.
"Hey guys, is everyone here," the Hispanic girl asked.
"Not Kayori, we sent Abigail to go check the rooms," Angel responded. A few minutes later, the sapphire-eyed girl returned, only to report Kayori wasn't anywhere to be found. With this information, team seven left towards their hut outside.
"Hey Matt, could you perhaps share? I'd feel safer if I had one right now," Wachey asked, when they finally reached outside. The setting was all too familiar, and she wondered if Quatre felt the same. Unloading about one, the Filipino was surprised when the other girls started to ask for one too. In the end, half of his load was gone, and he was telling them how to use his stuff.

Inside their huts, on the chalkboard, was a message saying: Your mascots are safe, don't worry. They will not be participating in this part of the contest. Today, your goal is to survive for as long as you can. You will be awarded points for surviving, and for how you die.
"For how we die?!? Damn it!! I thought they said we're not supposed to die," Kuwabara shouted. His leader Yusuke, was more than ticked off at Koenma right now. /Oh, he gets to be safe!! He chose to be the damn mascot! THAT PIECE OF SHIT!! /

"Should we be worried, that they said 'how you die,'" Hotaru asked, being used to death by now.
"Yes, but something tells me we're not in the right dim--" Setsuna was cut off by a weird roar coming behind them. Something huge was coming out of the water. It wasn't until they heard some people outside yelling, "HOLY SHIT!! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!! IT'S JURASSIC PARK, BUT IN REAL LIFE!!!"
Going outside, the sailor scouts were shocked to see a large creature walking out of the sea. It looked like one of the dinosaurs in the movie they had seen last night, but not quite. Having not transformed, Lita yelled, "Come on guys! We can probably defeat this thing!! JUPITER POWER MAKE UP!!"
Normally Ami would go first, but she was checking her mini-computer to find out the creatures weaknesses. Setsuna, also started to transform.

"Everyone listen to me!! I want all of us to be gathered in a group! Angel, Umbra, I want you two to be in the back, and make sure no one falls behind, including yourselves, okay? Matt, Shane I want you two to be on the sides! Make sure we have protection on both! Everyone else, stay in the middle! Just keep following me! Don't stop running, until I do! Understand," Wachey shouted, as they were running towards the forest. The others did as told, and soon they were entering the forest with speed.
For a brief amount of time, they were able to see another group, it looked like team one. /It would probably be best if we join forces. That way, we can double our defense, / the Hispanic girl thought, but had to keep her mind on what was ahead of her. She wasn't an endurance runner, however, and was all ready losing her breath. Yet she knew they had to keep going, until they could no longer hear the roars, or the cries of pain.
"Shouldn't we join team one," someone then yelled behind her. Looking over her shoulder, she found it was Sahar. "SAHAR! You read minds right?!?"
"Yeah," the violet-eyed girl answered.
"Can you send messages through the mind too," her leader then asked. Nodding, she was ordered, "Good! Tell Quatre we're near by!"
Blushing for a second, Sahar then attempted to do so.

/Quatre? Quatre, can you hear me, / a girl's voice asked within his mind. Confused, and trying to run, he thought, /Who are you?? /
/It's me, Sahar. Wachey wanted me to tell you that we're close by, and that we should join forces, / was the response he was given. Finally looking to his side, he was able to see that they were close by.
"Trowa! Move onto Duo's side! Wufei, come up front! Everyone, prepare to merge with team seven," he then yelled, starting to turn to his side.

Hearing his shout, the Hispanic girl ordered, "Matt, go onto Shane's side! We're going to join up with team one!"
It was a little difficult to get together, due to underbrush, and some people running faster than others. A lot of the girls could barely keep themselves up. Noticing right away that Wachey was breathing way too hard, Wufei grabbed her by the arm and waist, and assisted her. Over his shoulder he shouted, "Help whoever needs it! We can't stop running yet!"
Immediately, Sally was supporting Dorothy, Hilde and Cathy supported each other, Freya gave support to Abi, and Sahar was leaning slightly onto Nenagh. Those in the back and on the sides seemed used to running. Ahead of them, was a clearing, and remembering their punishment, the brown-eyed leader stated, "We can't go into the clearing. We'll cause a stampede."
"What do you mean? What's out there," Wufei asked immediately.
"Herds of plant-eating dinosaurs. Trust me, there is. Tell Quatre we need to turn and find a place to rest." Nodding, the Chinese boy relayed the message to his blonde friend who then shouted, "Everyone! Turn right!"
"Tell Umbra to fly up and find us a place to rest," the Hispanic girl then stated.

"Stop everyone! Just stop," Serena ordered her friends. Doing so, the others felt exhausted, paranoid, and immense sadness for the loss of their three friends. Jupiter, while transforming, was the first thing grabbed and eaten by the creature. Sailor Pluto launched an attack, which actually singed off it's arm, and in result she was attacked. Ami, didn't run away in time.
"We can't stay here for long, that thing may still come after us! We have to keep going," Mina asserted, very tired, but not ready to give up.
"Hey, are you girls okay," they heard someone ask from above. Looking, they found team two sitting in a very tall tree. Excited, the blonde girl responded, "We're exhausted! Would you mind if we joined you up there?"
"No, go right on ahead," Kuwabara replied, and helped some of the girls up the tree. The girls felt so much better away from the ground, but their loss came back to them.

Jumping from place to place, Inu Yasha was looking for a place to stop, but he kept finding another creature's scent. It was like they were everywhere, and yet nowhere to be seen. He wasn't even relieved when Sango yelled, "Inu Yasha! There's a small stream up ahead!"
"We need to gather up supplies if we're going to be out here awhile," Miroku added. Following his friends who were on Kilala(1), he let Kagome off of his back so she could start filling their canteens. Ears perked up, the half-dog demon kept himself on high alert, making sure nothing snuck up on them.
"I hope everyone else is all right," Sango stated. Putting a hand on her shoulder, the monk explained, "I'm sure most of them will be fine. If you didn't notice, we weren't the only ones to take flight. Team four will no doubt survive this."
"Yeah? What about team six? They went up against that thing, and last I saw one of the girls got eaten," Inu Yasha pointed out.
"I said most, not all. Though I wish I could say all of us will survive," Miroku replied. A startled yelp interrupted their conversation, as they saw Kagome backing away from another dinosaur. It looked harmless enough, but remembering the movie, Sango yelled, "That's the one that shoots out poisen! Kagome, keep back!"
Throwing her boomerrang, she literally knocked it's head off. Looking over the creature, the dog-demon got an idea and said, "Why don't we cook it? It would save us a whole lot of trouble of looking for food elsewhere."

"Ugh, I'm hungry! Where's a large rex when you need one," Goku whined, and flew lower to see if he could find one. During the whole movie, he kept thinking how delicious some of the animals looked, and he didn't understand why anyone would be afraid of them. He then felt sorry for the humans that were eaten, because if they knew what great tasting meat the dinosaurs had, they'd have killed them instead.
Finally seeing a t-rex eating away at a carcass, he dived in, punching it's head, and killing it instantly. His sons followed him, and Gohan asked, "Dad, do you need my sword?"
"Yes, if you don't mind," he answered, smiling happily. Handing it to his father, he and his brother watched as Goku chopped up the dinosaur into very large steaks. They were going to have bar-b-que tonight. The Briefs family also joined them, though Vegeta and Bulma hated the smell of the other carcass beside them.

"Anything else to report Umbra," Angel asked, as her team mate landed from her scouting. She had found a cave for them to rest in, and was making sure they had no dinosaur on their tracks. Walking into the cave, she stated, "I saw smoke somewhere on the other side of this island. I sensed it was team four."
"What are they be doing starting a fire? The smoke will attract other things," Dorothy proclaimed, having been told she couldn't have a fire for that reason.
/Knowing those guys, they're having a bar-b-que, / Wachey thought to herself, but didn't speak aloud.
Duo, after a few moments of silence, asserted, "We should try to find food, and probably come up with some ground rules so we have better chances of surviving this."
"I agree. For one, we shouldn't go anywhere alone," Quatre then stated.
"How about we have people go in groups of three? Two would be fine, but three stands a better chance, and there would be less groups to worry about," Angel offered. About to add more, someone's stomach growled quite loudly. It was then they decided to send three groups to get food.

"Little Washu, are you sure it's safe to just sit here like this," Tenchi asked looking all around them. They were next to a large tree, but they hadn't climbed it. /I'm thankful Sasami is safe, / he thought to himself, hoping nothing came after them. Not that he wouldn't be prepared, but still, he couldn't imagine if the girls were hurt.
"Don't worry, according to my laptop, this whole place is--" the short scientist began to explain, but was interrupted by that roar again. The same spinosaurus from the beach then came out of the trees, and headed straight for them! Wanting to protect Tenchi, both Ryoko and Aeka went into action, and started to attack it. The creature's skin was being severely burnt off, but it tried to move out of the way, hitting against trees.
It wasn't the dinosaurs movements that had hurt Washu, but the fact that Mihoshi accidentally shot one of the branches, which caused it to fall on top of the poor woman. The spinosaurus was killed, but their friend was greatly injured.
Gathering around her, they asked if they could do anything. She shook her head, and said, "Before I go, there is something I must tell you..."

"Mother, there's something I know that I think you should too," Trunks said after eating another piece of meat. Waiting for her son to continue, she listened carefully as he whispered in her ear a secret he had been told by one of the staff members. She was surprised, and then patted her son on the back, glad to have the information. Getting up, she then said, "We should probably tell others of this. That way they're less scared and more competitive."
"I don't think that's what they intended. They want them to fear this," the lavender-haired boy responded. His mother merely shook her head, and headed into the woods; not caring what could be in there. A little concerned Goten asked, "Hey, where's your mom going?"

Back at the cave, group one, which consisted of Wachey, Nenagh, and Sahar came back carrying a lot of berries. Group two, who were Wufei, Umbra, and Heero, had caught several fish for them to eat as a main course. Group three had yet to return, and they were: Hilde, Dorothy, and Sally. A feeling of dread spread through them, especially Duo, and it grew worse as time wore on.
"That's it, I'm going to find them," he suddenly stated, grabbing at least two or three loaded guns. The others understood completely, and Shane and Wufei went along with him. They hadn't even entered the forest when Hilde finally emerged, bloody and holding a large sack of something. By her side in an instant, the braided boy tried to stop the bleeding coming from her lower torso.
"Hilde? Hilde! Tell me, what did this to you," he asked desperately, but before she could utter a word, she died. The others stayed quiet, and were forced to assume the two other girls were dead as well. Their first meal that night, was a very sad one.

"Are we going to sleep in this tree all day," Rei whined, not liking the fungus underneath her bottom. Her complaints were ignored, and team two tried to come up with a plan of action. It was early morning again, and they hadn't eaten since Saturday. Looking to the grim on the oar, Yusuke ordered more than suggested, "Hey, why don't you try finding us some food?"
"I'm not going by myself," Botan replied, not liking his tone. Landing on the ground with grace, Kurama stated, "I'll go with you, and make sure nothing surprises us."
"I'll help! I'm starving," Serena admitted, trying to get down carefully, but slipped and landed on her butt. Getting down better, Rei then said, "I better go with you too. She'll be sure to mess something up!"

Feeling a light touch to her shoulder, the Hispanic girl awoke with a start, but was relieved when it was just Sahar. The violet-eyed girl informed her, "We're eating the eggs the others stole for breakfast."
Getting up, Wachey was handed an uncooked egg, and had to wait before putting hers above the fire. As she waited, however, she noticed something familiar about the egg. She then remembered the gashes on Hilde's body. They were large, deep, and slash-like. Suddenly, her thoughts were brought to a hault as the item she was holding was hatching!
"Hey, you want me to kill it for you," Matt offered, seeing her shocked face. Shaking her head, the brown-eyed girl actually helped the thing get out of it's shell, and gasped when she realized what it was.
"What's wrong," someone asked, and just about everyone was concerned by her pale face. Not being able to tear her gaze away, she explained, "This is a raptor! They stole these eggs from raptors! Oh God, we're dead. We are so fuckin' dead."
"Wait a minute, you mean those ones with the claws," Duo asked, trying to confirm it. He looked at the girl's palms and found it was in fact that dinosaur that had killed off his friends. /It's a miracle she even got here, / he then realized.
Just as fast as the hysteria came, the faster it left; getting up, Wachey ordered, "We should get out of here. They're going to attack sometime soon."
"What are you talking about," Cathy asked, scared at the little thing the girl still held in her hands.
"Simple, in the third movie, they were being chased by raptors, and they didn't know why. That was, until they discovered one of them had stolen two eggs. They were being hunted down, just for two. Now imagine us, getting a nestful of eggs, and eating just about all of them."
"That pretty much puts us on their deathlist," Heero finished for her. He all ready started packing for their escape.

"I smell rotting flesh," Inu Yasha asserted. Sure enough, there was a dead dinosaur ahead of their path. In fact, it was the same from the beach. Getting closer to it, the half dog-demon decided to cut up some of it's tail to take along with them. That was, until a small creature hopped onto his leg.
Swatting it away, he jumped back from the small thing. It was the size of a chicken, and looked adorable, which caused Kagome to go, "Aw, it's so small and cute!"
Soon, two others came up behind her, and she started to lightly pet the creatures. They weren't causing her any harm, so the others decided to leave them be. The hazel-eyed demon then went about cutting away at the larger dino's body. It only took a few moment's neglect for something terrible to happen, and that terrible something was Kagome being attacked by not a few, but many 'cute' dinosaurs.
"Kagome!" Leaping into action, Inu Yasha grabbed hold of her, and jumped out of the way as Miroku yelled, "Wind tunnel!!"
The little fiends, as well as the dead spinosaurus were then gone. Though the damage had been done, and all they could do was bandage up her wounds.

"Hiei, we need to find out where the others are at," Yusuke stated, getting down from the tree. He was bored out of his mind just hiding there, and he wanted to know what was taking his friends so long. Not wanting to, but having to, the fire demon went to another tree, and started to search out their friend's location.
"They're only a few miles off, but they're currently being attacked," he then stated casually. Stunned to say the least, Mina yelled, "How could you be so calm about it?!? We have to get to them right away!"
Agreeing with her strongly, the other sailor scouts got out of the tree, but were forced to follow the fire demon, because he was the only one who knew where their friends were. He kept a small smirk on his face, for he knew Kurama could handle anything thrown at them, especially in a forest.

"Boy, where is your stupid ass of a mother," Vegeta barked out, finally noticing that Bulma hadn't been around for a while. Sighing, Trunks replied, "She left a while ago to die, I think."
"What?!? Why," the whole Son family asked stunned. Sighing again, the lavender-haired teen explained why she had probably done so. After revealing the secret to them, the prince of saiyans stated, "It would be best if we stay in the high mountains. That way, none of the other contestants find us."
"Why? Shouldn't we help them," Goku asked, confused.
"No, for this is a game, and if we help them survive, we boost their chances of winning. And the last thing I'm going to do is allow weaklings like them to beat me," Vegeta declared.

"Maybe we should head back to the hotel. Gather up some more supplies, like water, and snack food," Nenagh suggested, wanting to rest on a bed again. There were locked doors at the hotel, and they could probably hide out there for a while. Getting the idea, the leaders of the group decided they would head back, and had the group jog at a fast pace.
Once there, they found no evidence of any dinosaurs having been there. This allowed some to change their scent with a nice clean bath, and the girls to change clothes. Most of team seven wore black or dark blue, and would blend in well into the darkness of night and shadow. Though two of them wore bright clothing that stood out, night or day. Those were Sahar, whose majority of clothing was light in color, and Wachey, who wore bright red leather pants and a matching jacket.
"That jacket's kinda short," Abi commented, noting how both the black tank-top and red jacket stopped just passed her leader's chest, showing off her mid torso. It gave any enemy an easy target to aim for. Looking towards her caped teammate, the Hispanic girl replied lamely, "My mom made it."
"Red will draw a lot of attention," Wufei stated, appearing suddenly.
"I know, but most animals think of poisen when they see red. It's a threatening color that scares them off," she explained nervously. She was only nervous, because she enjoyed looking at the Chinese boy wearing a sexy green outfit. /I so need to get laid.../

"Why'd Washu have to tell us about this place?! Now everything is after us," Ryoko yelled in frustration. It was almost immediate when another spinosaurus went after them. They had to leave their friend's body behind, and were now in the middle of a huge stampede, in a very big clearing.
The space pirate couldn't tell where any of her friends had gone, and she desperately flew above it all trying to find Tenchi. But there was too much dust to see anything clearly.
It wasn't until she heard a loud wail of, 'Kiyone,' did she find Mihoshi crying in dispair at her partner's crushed form. Apparently she had pushed the blonde out of the way of one dino's large foot. Only to be stomped on instead. Yet it proved to be in vain, because the dumb girl got trampled on by a bunch of other dinosaurs.
/Damn it! Everything is happening so fast! I have to find Tenchi, / Ryoko then thought in a panic, going lower to the ground.

Back within the hotel, three groups had been sent downstairs, ground floor, in order to gather food and supplies from the cafeteria and nurse's office. And the last two groups were stationed at each entrance on the second floor, which were the elevator and fire exit.
So far, everything had gone smoothly, and the three groups kept coming back then leaving to get more supplies. Yet this left the guards in a bored state of mind.
"Hey Freya, what do you think I should name this little guy," Wachey asked, sitting against the wall with the baby raptor in her lap. A little anxious around the thing, the pig-tailed girl replied, "I don't know. Is it a boy or a girl?"
"Uh, how do you tell," the Hispanic girl responded in confusion. Quirking a brow, Wufei watched in slight amusement as the other girl said, "I think it's a boy."
"Maybe, but just in case, we'll name it Terry, because that can be either a boy or girl's name," Wachey replied.
Suddenly, there was a frantic knock on the door, and they quickly let in Abi, Duo, and Sahar. They were gasping for air, and clutching onto big bags filled with bread and meat.
Catching his breath, the braided boy explained, "On our way back, we spotted a raptor sniffing around the place. I warned the others to hurry up and be careful, but we're sure it won't attack without some back up, which gives them a few more minutes."

Apparently the fire demon's assumptions about his friend's abilities were placed too high, because more than one dinosaur was attacking them. Sure, Kurama was able to slice them into bits and pices, but as soon as one died, another came up. Thankfully, Mars was on the case, and she had used several of her sutras to freeze them in place.
It seemed she had everything under control, that was until Serena started to be attacked as well. Funny how Botan convienently disappeared into the air, but Yusuke didn't care. She was as bad as their mascot.
"Everyone kill as many as you can! Don't spare any! Regardless if they're cute," the spirit detective barked out, destroying upto five raptors. The others did as told, but they would suffer several casualties.
Their first, would be Botan, whose scream they heard from above, and whose body they saw falling towards the ground. Only a flying dinosaur had taken her into it's claws before she was half-way down.

Entering the cafeteria for the last time, Cathy, Trowa, and Heero gathered up the last of the canned foods. But as they had feared, a raptor had gone in to investigate. Hearing something behind them, the Japanese boy found there were two more coming in through the back entrance.
"You guys run ahead of me, and I'll shoot these two behind us," he ordered, and with a quick nod, the Latin boy went into action. Sadly, the raptors were faster, and grew in number rapidly. They were able to kill a few, but ran out of bullets quickly.
Everything happened so fast, and before they knew it, Cathy had gotten in the way of one of the monsters; saving her adoptive brother. Right before his eyes, her guts were being spilt all over the floor, but she was still alive to scream!
"RUN TROWA," the curly-haired woman yelled before a bullet entered her head. It was Heero who had shot her, but it was to save her from anymore pain. Yanking his friend forward, he had them run straight ahead. Only to find another set of raptors in their way.
"We have only one option," the Japanese boy said calmly, starting to shake, and then he added, "And that's to die."

"Urameshi watch out!" Caught off guard, the black-haired boy was shocked when his friend tackled a raptor that nearly attacked him from behind. /What the hell is going on here?!? Why do these things keep coming? Unless.../
"HIEI!! What do you know about this place," Yusuke yelled, figuring that something was wrong with this place. By his associates side in an instant, the fire demon merely replied, "It's a fake world."

This is the longest chapter yet, but it's not over! The deaths will continue onto the next chapter, and then an explanation from the staff members will be given. Well, I'm off to write it!

Oh, and if there are any spelling or grammar mistakes, I'm sorry, but I was in another state, using an old computer that didn't have spell check! Now have a nice day. Of course, if there is an obvious spelling error that just bugs the hell out of you, then tell me, and I'll consider fixing it.
