Chapter One: Reluctant Mission

The fire demon didn't like this at all.

"Don't be such a pussy, Shorty," Kuwabara laughed.

The sooner that ningen died...

"The fearless one is afraid of a little challenge," Yusuke teased.

Jail didn't seem too bad...

"You faced tougher challenges before," Kurama pointed out.

True. That didn't mean he wanted to do it.

"Please Hiei," Botan begged. "Enma requested this himself."

Not even for Enma. That's final.

"C'mon," Yusuke said, slapping Hiei on the back. "It's not like you have to go alone!"

That made the situation that much more worse. That and if that baka ningen hit him again...wait. That would send him to jail. At least that way he'd have a little bit of fun.

"We've been at this for hours," Kuwabara complained. "I'm getting tired of this really fast."

"Baka," Hiei huffed.

"At least he said something," Botan sighed heavily.

"Come on Hiei," Kurama said. "You might as well give in. You will eventually; by force or your own will."

Hiei didn't respond, but continued to fantasize about him murdering Kuwabara and Yusuke only to finish up with taking over Enma's position. It was a longshot, but he liked the idea.

"Please," Botan asked again, feeling a bit aggravated. "If we don't hurry, the portal will close and everything will be lost."

"What's in it for me," Hiei asked. There was no hurt in seeing the benifits. The longer he kept them talking, either to get him to go or about the details, the greater the chance this stupid mission would be cancelled.

"You get to meet interseting people," Botan began. "Play with giant robots, go into space, open the portal permantly..."

Still not enough incentive. Why did Enma need them to open it permantly anyway? Couldn't he do that himself?

"Enough of this," Kurama sighed. "Do it or I tell Yukina."

"You wouldn't," Hiei said, a bit worried.

"Don't tempt me," Kurama said sternly. Surely this would get the stubborn demon to change his mind. "I always said that you should tell her. What a shame that you need me to do it for you."

Hiei, a bit shocked by his friend's abruptness, nodded his head in defeate. He was getting softer and it was killing him.

"If it would get you all off my back," he muttered as an excuse.

"That wasn't so hard now was it," Kurama asked.

"Hn," Hiei replied angerly, folding his arms. He hated blackmail unless he was the one using it.

"Why are we really going," Yusuke asked as Botan led them to the portal.

"Koenma said that all of you had to go through the portal to ensure that demons weren't the cause of its creation," Botan replied. "So here we are."

"Why do I have to go," Hiei asked, still angry he was being dragged along.

"You're a part of the team," Botan said. "And it was either all of you or none of you."

"I'd rather it be none then," Hiei muttered.

"Shut up," Kuwabara snapped. "You're really getting on my nerves."

"Dare you speak to me like that," Hiei asked, preparing to chop him into thousands of pieces.

"I dare," Kuwabara siad. Who did this punk demon think he is? If it were up to him, he'd already have thrown Hiei into the deepist pit of the nineth hell.

"Knock it of you two," Kurama sighed. He was not in the mood to paste the two back together after they tore each other apart. "We have to be almost there."

"Actually," Botan smiled, "we're here!"

"A feild," Hiei said skeptically.

"A rose feild," Kurama said, pocketing a few seeds for later.

"Where's the portal," Yusuke asked, looking around. "I don't see it."

"Right in front of you," Botan replied. "Just take a few more steps and you're in."

"Here we go," Yusuke said, going inot a pit of swirling blue, black, and red.

"I just hope I won't regret this," Kuwabara complained, going in.

"You go first, Hiei," Kurama said. "I don't trust you to go in last."

Hiei gave the spirit fox the evil eye before going in.

Kurama went in after the demon, wondering how they got him to go without setting anything (or anybody) on fire.

"Goodbye and good luck," Botan called out after them, turning away to head back to the spirit world.

like it? hate it? let me know!
