A Renewed Being Chapter 1: The Accident

It was storming outside of the building. Outside of the hospital building. Inside, it was quite similar, with several doctors and nurses taking someone to an emergency room. The patient had been shot in the head, and was in extreme critical condition. One of the people that had brought him in was following, and kept looking to the face whose green eyes would not open.

/This is all my fault, / he thought sadly, and planned to stay by his friend's side. However, the nurses told him to wait outside, and that he could do no more. His heart aching with dread, Wufei slowly walked back to his other friends, who were in the waiting room.

"Heero, what went wrong," Duo asked, anxious to know the details of the situation.

"We're not quite sure," the Japanese boy replied, trying to hold in his own pain.

"You think maybe you miscalculated," Quatre then asked softly.

"I don't know," Heero answered, trying to hold in his anger. He, along with Wufei and Trowa, were on a simple mission. A mission to arrest terrorists who threatened to make another mobile suit. Yet something went wrong, and the green-eyed boy was shot. Thus, in reaction to the assualt, the other two shot and killed all of the terrorists. All the while their friend was presumed dead, until he released a breath.

Hope then filled their minds, and they hurried as fast as they could to the nearest hospital. They then alerted their other friends of the accident, and continued to hope for Trowa's life. He had a very slim chance of surviving, but it was better than nothing.

Entering the room, the Chinese boy merely said, "He's in the ER right now." He then sat and stayed quiet for the rest of the night. The operation took a total of five hours, and during that time, each of those in the waiting room quietly suffered.

"Excuse me, may I speak to those who brought Mr. Barton in," a doctor suddenly stated, shattering the silence of the room. Quickly, the two Asians followed the man outside into the hallway.
"Your friend made it through the operation. He is going to live," he stated, looking to the two boys as they sighed in relief. Though he felt bad when he had to say, "However, he is in a coma, and we are unsure as to what effects the bullet really had on his brain."

"How long will he be in a coma," Wufei asked immediately.

"It is hard to determine. Perhaps a few days, weeks, months, or even years."

Taking a deep breath, the raven-haired boy then asked, "What type of effects were you referring to? About the bullet and his mind."

"Well, his body may not be able to function as it normally would when he wakes up, he may have lost his memories, or worse, both reactions occur," the doctor said as calmly as possible.

"Can we visit him," the Chinese boy finally inquiried, after the man stopped talking.

"Yes, but please be careful of the equipment." With that said, they were shown to the room in which the Latin boy lay. Looking to his blue-eyed friend, Wufei smiled sadly when Heero stated, "You can see him first. I'll inform the others of his condition."

Going into the room, the raven-haired boy couldn't believe what he saw. There lay Trowa, a bandage around his head, an oxygen mask over his mouth and nose, and a few wires hooked up to his body, which itself was now pale. His breathing was slow, and his heartbeat was steady.

Moving close enough to stand next to the bed, Wufei found himself hesitantly moving his hand to touch the boy's cheek, which was uncovered. He was surprised at how soft his love's flesh really was, and now wished even more that he had admitted his feelings to him. Instead, the man who had his heart was just about dead to this world, and he was to blame.

/I should've been shot, not him! The guy was on my right side! If he hadn't.../ Tears started to emit from his eyes, and with a shaky voice he said, "Trowa, why'd it have to be you? Why couldn't that bastard have missed and hit me instead of you? You are much more important than I am."

Holding on tightly to the bed's side, Wufei had to take a few more breaths before continuing with, "Please, make it through this Trowa. We need you, all of us, especially me. I can't stand the thought of you suffering anymore than you all ready are, and that's why I'm staying here. With you, always, until the day you wake and ask me not to."

Outside of the room, the other pilots were waiting to see their friend privately as well. Each had something to say, though they understood why it was important for Wufei to go first. He loved Trowa, with all his heart and soul, and all of them knew that, except for their friend who was laying unconsious.

Indeed, one of them used to be rather jealous of this love, but had gotten over it once he realized he was in love with someone else. Now the blonde considered Trowa to be his best friend, almost a brother, just like the other pilots. So of course, he felt sorry for his Chinese friend, and hoped they both made it through this.

Upon seeing him exit the room, Heero entered in, and this left the others to comfort Wufei as much as they could. He was now crying freely, and couldn't utter a word.

"I remember, how you got in the way of Quatre's attack," the Japanese boy started out, finally putting his emotions to words. He didn't know quite how to express them as well as his friends, but he was trying.

"It was from then on that I realized how much you cared for the two of us. Then your caring spread onto Duo, and then Wufei. You care for all of us now, and especially him, because you love him. That's why you did it, isn't it? You knew the bullet would've killed him, and so you got in the way instead. Hm, I understand now. Just make it through this Trowa, for all of us," he finished saying, and exited the room for the next to see him.

The rest of the night went on, with all of them giving words from their heart to Trowa, as he lay in a coma. Each of them planned to stay, or at least visit as much as they could, until the day he woke and said he was okay.

Okay, this chapter is pretty sad, but then again, it's supposed to be. I hope I didn't make Wufei too mushy, but you have to remember, he's the honest type, and really loves Trowa in this one. And it's not like he's going to say that stuff in front of everyone, just to the one he loves. Anyway, I'm off to write the next chapter!
