Heero sat on the hotel room bed looking over the notes he was taking; he had large sound isolating headphones on. Listening to the discussion between Xander and his secretary.
“My next meeting?” His voice was cold and to the point.
“A mister Miller sir, he says he can meet you in public at a place of your choosing tomorrow at noon. He would like to discuss the Lagrange Point 2 with you.”
“Ah,” He paused a minute, Heero could hear his footsteps. “Tell Mr. Miller that I would be happy to meet with him at that little Italian place down town, make reservations for two my dear, my usual table.”
“Very well Mr. Xander.” He heard footsteps and a door close.
“I guess I'm going to lunch tomorrow.” Heero sighed, “I hate Italian food.”
Heero went for a walk downtown and found the little Italian place and decided to make a reservation for 11:45 so he could be there before the two men got there. He glanced at the reservation sheet and smiled he was four tables away. Heero exited through the garden where they would be sitting and planted a microphone in the pot of flowers on the table where Xander and this Mr. Miller would be sitting.
Heero planted the microphone easy as though he was leaning down to smell the roses in the pot. He noticed a girl setting the tables; he gave her a soft smile. “You should leave these flowers out till tomorrow night, there's going to be a full moon and roses always look best in moonlight.” She smiled at him happily.
“I'll remember that.” Heero turned to leave her.
The next day Heero woke early. He showered, got a few tourist fliers together and set out to make his lunch date at the restaurant. He arrived and promptly at noon Mr. Xander arrived. He was a tall man, with long black hair and piercing brown eyes. He took a seat and ordered two glasses of wine. Heero smiled as the woman brought him a small Caesar salad. His earpiece was on and he was listening, and the recorder in his coat was taking in all of the information. He just needed to sit back and enjoy the show. A figure stepped up to Xander's table he had long brown hair that trailed past his waist, his eyes were covered by black sunglasses, and he was pretty much hidden by the collar on his trench coat. Heero blinked. `Oh fuck no.' Heero thought `great' he folded his paper and decided to listen anyway.
“Mr. Miller.” Xander stood to shake his hand.
“Mr. Xander it's a pleasure to meet you.” No mistaking that was Duo's voice echoing in his head. Heero blinked, and started in on his salad, this made things a lot more difficult then he was hoping that it would be.
“The pleasure is mine Mr. Miller.” Duo sat down.
“So I am under the impression that you would like to have some political sway over the L2 Lagrange point?” Duo smiled at the waitress and ordered water.
“Your impressions would be correct.” Xander smiled at duo and pushed and envelope toward him. “Prove to me that you can be trusted and I will see what I can do to compensate you for your hard work.” Duo nodded at the waitress and she set the waters down. Duo took a sip of his water and smiled at the man and picked up the envelope and turned.
“You will have my trust.” Duo reached in the flowers and pulled a microphone out of the flowerpot and set it on the table. “But we will discuss this more when we are not being spied upon.” He took his water glass and crushed the little dime-sized microphone.
This action sent a shrieking feedback into Heero's ear but he remained calm and continued to eat his salad without flinching. He made sure Duo did not see him and watched as the young boy stood from the table smiled at Xander and then started to cross the street.
The waitress went up to Xander to offer to take his order and he motioned her away, and started to smile.
`This is so not good.' Heero thought gently. `I have to call base.'
