"Duo, Duo!"
I sat up quickly, startled from a deep sleep. Heero was beside me a
look of sheer panic on his beautiful face. I knew in that instant that
it was time.
You're wondering why Heero would be in panic right? Let me explain.
Heero and I have been a couple since even before the war ended. We
dreamt the one-day we would live happily ever after in a nice house
with a white picket fence, a dog and a kid.
Well, when the war ended we got our nice little house, white fence
and all. Then we got our dog, a rottweiler that Heero named Tsuki. {1}
The kid, well that was the tricky part.
We had looked into adoption; no luck—what social worker in their
right mind would give a kid to a pair of teenaged ex-soldiers? I was
seventeen at the time and Heero was only sixteen; our options we limited.
Our next venture into parent hood was to look into a surrogate,
again no luck. The folks at the clinic would not even consider it
until one of us was at least twenty-one. Five years is a long, long
time to wait to start a family, especially when you have never had a
family before.
The surprising part of our whole ordeal was how disappointed Heero
was. I had always thought that having a kid was my dream and Heero
went along with it because he loves me. It wasn't until we were headed
home after the trip to a lab that Quatre had recommended, similar to
the one were his sisters were conceived, that I noticed the utter
disappointment, clearly written on Heero's face.
It was then that I realized that Heero wanted this just as much as I
did. Maybe even more.
That was when we really began to get serious. We spent a week
searching the net, sometimes hacking into Preventers and using some of
their connections. When we hit one dead end after the other I really
began to consider giving up.
But Heero was adamant he spent every waking hour on the computer,
sometimes working well into the early morning. I would get up for work
and find him sprawled across the computer desk, sound asleep.
It hurt to see him like that, knowing that deep down inside that ex
perfect solider was a young man that needed someone to nurture,
someone who depends on you for everything, sort of like a maternal
instinct. Gods how I love him, and I know he loves me but there is
only so much that you can do for an independent person like me.
We were about three months into our "Quest" as we dubbed it, when
Preventers sent me out on a mission. I knew the nasty habits that
Heero had gained over the past weeks, and knew that if I was not there
to keep an eye on him he would spend night and day in front on that
dammed computer not eating or sleeping.
The mission was an important one, I had no choice but to go. So I
made him promise to take breaks, and let him know that I would be
thoroughly pissed if I came home and found that he had not taken the
breaks.
In the end he agreed and I left for my mission.
When I came home four days later, I was surprised to find him sound
asleep in bed. I was also a bit worried when I noticed how pale he
looked, the worry turned to panic when I touched his cheek and found
it chilled and sweaty.
I pulled out my phone to call Sally when Heero's hand came to rest
on my arm.
"It's alright," he told me. I opened my mouth to speak but he
stopped me and gestured to a pamphlet that rested on the bedside table.
My eyes grew as wide as saucers and I swear that I was doing an
excellent imitation of a deer in headlights when I read what was
written in that little booklet.
// M-utateck {2}, A device capable of allowing barren women become
pregnant. Also 95% affective in male pregnancy. //
I must have blinked at him like an idiot for several moments before
it registered. Heero can get pregnant now. What senile doctor would
implant a pregnancy device in a sixteen-year-old boy? That had to be
way the hell beyond illegal.
When I asked him "Who?" He simply replied, "Sally". I was floored; I
mean it literally, flat on my ass, cheek to hardwood, and I would have
stayed there too, if Heero had not tried to move out of the bed to see
if I was all right.
After I had him settled back into bed and gave him a dose of pain
meds, I went to make a phone call to a certain female doctor.
Sally explained the entire procedure to me, step by step. It was
remarkably simple. A small incision was made inside Heero's navel, and
the device was inserted through the tiny opening and attached with the
aid on and endoscopic camera.
Quick heal time and no scaring. The nifty part was that Heero could
get pregnant and deliver the child the same way a woman could, though
Sally recommend that with his young age and petite stature of five
foot two, that a c-section would be safer for the delivery.
Oh the wait for Heero to heal from the surgery was sheer torture, I
watched day by day as he regained his strength; his stomach became
less tender and his appetite came back.
It was just around three weeks after I returned home from my mission
that neither one of us could hold out any longer.
It happened fast and I am sure that I caused more pain then was
necessary, Heero did not bottom often and was surely sore the next
morning but he did not complain once.
Our next time after that was far more gentle, we stretched out the
fore play as long as we could stand it, then when we finally joined it
was slow and sweet. I would stop just before he came, allowing him
time to calm, then start again. It seemed to last hours.
After the first month, Sally came with her little black bag and ran
the first test. It was negative. I could see that disappointment
creeping back on Heero's face.
Sally told us that for us to get pregnant, the odds were exactly the
same as with any couple. It takes time. Just sit tight and let nature
take its course.
We decided to wait a couple of months before running the test again.
I paced the living room while Sally and Heero were in the bedroom.
Sally came out alone with a look of awe on her features.
"What?" I demanded
"Heero is pregnant." She paused then spoke again. "Heero is very,
very pregnant."
I did not wait for her to elaborate; I ran full tilt into the
bedroom. Heero lay on our bed staring down at his stomach.
He looked up at me then and I swear for the first time he smiled, he
really, truly smiled.
(( AWWWWW!!! *bursts into fangirl tears* Kodak MOMENT!!!!))
I sat down next to him and placed a gentle hand on his belly.
"Heero, love are you alright?" I asked him
"More than alright," he replied then added "Duo, I think we are
going to need to buy a larger house, this one is just too small for
three children."
I choked for a moment then laughed, boy our happy little dream never
included triplets.
((*laugh* *sputter* *choke* THREE?! Ye gods, do they know what they
are getting into?))
So our nice little house with the white picket fence was sold, a
larger equally nice four-bedroom house was bought. With a nice white
picket fence surrounding a considerably larger yard. Even our dog
Tsuki got a friend—another rotty, I named this one Hoshi.
All in all life is great, the pregnancy progressed with very few
complications and we are all settled into our new home. One of the
bedrooms was turned into a nursery; the other two rooms have been made
into guestrooms until the children were old enough to sleep in
separate rooms.
Now here I am at Preventer's head quarters waiting for Sally or one
of the nurses to take me back to be with Heero. I was made to wait
outside of the operating room while the c-section was taking place.
Just when I sat down next to the dozing Wufei, his wife came
bursting from the operating room. Sally's smile was extraordinary.
Both Wufei and I jumped up.
"Congratulations!!" Sally crowed "You have two girls and a boy,
Heero is doing just fine. Go on back and see him."
I did not have to be told twice.
I was about to fly through the recovery room door when I had second
thoughts. I calmed myself then opened the door cautiously, just in
case Heero was napping.
I was greeted with a tired smile. "Come in `Dad' and see your
children," he said softly. I had not noticed before but there was a
bassinet next to Heero's bed.
I stepped up to it and peered inside.
All three of the tiny infants were inside, lying side by side swaddled
in their little blankets. Their faces were pink and a little wrinkly.
They were placed girl boy girl and Heero told me that they were placed
in the order that they were delivered.
I studied the tiny faces and was shocked to find the youngest
staring up at me with a startlingly intense _expression. She was
definitely Heero's daughter.
We spent the remainder of the night thinking up the perfect names
for our children and when the nurse arrived to take them to the
nursery we had decided.
The eldest, a girl we named Chihiro Tenchi {3}
The second, our son we named Solovan (Solo) Heishi {4}
And the youngest the one I dubbed chibi-Heero we named Takara Kin {5}
Our dreams have come full circle, and we now have more than we ever
wanted.
Life is good.
