All The Things We've Never Done

`They drank their anniversary glass
A silent moment passed'

Duo sipped at his wine thoughtfully as he stared at his husband. After five years of marriage and fifteen years together he could read Heero like a book.

Most of the time.

And while Heero had never been the chattiest person in the room, he had left his utter silences behind a long time ago.

It was comfortable sitting on the couch with his legs curled over Heero's lap and the position made it easy for him to simply bend forward and press a short kiss on his lover's warm lips.

`Then they kissed
He knows there's something on his mind'
Duo let him have his contemplative silence as he finally got the chance to just watch his love's face. Thirty years looked good on Heero- his eyes were still Duo's favorite dark blue and his hair was still thick and chocolate brown in color.

Not that he wouldn't love Heero if he was blind and bald but the fact of the matter was that Heero still looked good.

Those previously mentioned eyes slid over to Duo as he raised one eyebrow in question. Head tilting slightly to the side, he asked without asking `what's wrong, love?'

Duo watched as Heero's lips curved into a small frown before he spoke.
'He'll tell him in due time
What it is'

“Do you have any regrets?”

The question was quiet but rushed, as if Heero wanted an answer but feared receiving one.

Duo thought for a moment. His husband had a way of thinking that expected those around him to simply understand what he meant. He had learned the art of further questioning to figure out his Japanese lover and this seemed like the perfect time to use it.

“Everyone has regrets.” He pointed out logically, grabbing Heero's glass of wine from him and setting both down on the coffee table.

He turned back to his lover. “What kind are you specifically referring to?”

Heero's eyebrows furrowed before he waved a hand around their living room.

“This. Our life. How things turned out.” He shot Duo a sheepish look. “I know you expected to be with the Preventers after the war.”

`He says I've never built
Your mansion on a hill
Or warmed you in the Spanish sun'

Duo stayed silent and let his lover speak- Heero had a tendency to stop talking if you interrupted him before he had finished.

“I know you dreamed of having your own home and helping clean up L2 and this all I could give you.”

Heero shook his head, making his messy bangs fall into his eyes again.

“It's been fifteen years already and I just thought about how much I've never done with you yet.”

`I simply blink my eye
And think as years fly by
Of all the things we
've never done'

Duo watched as Heero seemed to slouch under the weight of his thoughts and felt a smile twitch at his lips.

It was true that he had pictured himself as a Preventer after the first war had ended- what else was there for a Gundam pilot like him to do?- but Heero's decision to never kill again had ended that thought-bunny.

Duo grabbed the hand resting on his thigh and curled his fingers around Heero's. His husband gripped his hard, as if he were afraid of Duo ever letting him go.

It was a foolish thought.

`He smiles and takes his hand in his'

“Being a Preventer was never my sole aspiration in life, love.” Duo said running his other hand through Heero's hair. “I didn't realize it wasn't something I wanted until you declined the job and asked me to start up our computer company with you.”

'And says it just occurred
To me now
'

Heero relaxed a tiny bit as he watched Duo imitate his previous wave around the living room.

“As for having a home-“ Duo touched a hand to his lover's cheek. “Heero, I do have one. Here with you is my home. We could live in a cardboard box behind the nearest pizza parlor and it would still be my home as long as you're in it with me.”

`The thought that brings you such regret
What hasn
't happened yet
It makes me proud...
'

Heero turned his head to kiss the hand on his cheek as Duo continued.

“As for helping L2, I'm doing the best I can right here.” He shook his head, making the long braid behind him whip against the couch. “It will take decades to fix the colonies and I give a part of all my pay checks and I trust Quatre and Relena to see that the job gets done the way they know how.”

He looked into Heero's blue gaze, his tone serious. “I did my part every time I stepped into Deathscythe's cockpit.”

Duo sighed suddenly looking radiant. “There are tons of things we've never done and I'm damn proud of it, to tell the truth.”

Heero jerked back in response.

“Duo?”

'You never walked away
When I needed you to stay
Or made me feel I'm not the one'

“I've known you for fifteen years, loved you for all of them too, and not once did you ever make me doubt you. Did you doubt me?”

Heero shook his head.
`There've been no broken vows
And there reason were here now
Is all the things we
've never done'

“You got up in front of a God you didn't believe in and promised to love, honor and cherish me- and you do, everyday.” Duo shook his head. “When I think about Relena and her marriage to that politician guy I'm happy we married for love and not necessity or public opinion.”

'We've never grown apart
You never broke my heart
With secrets that you
've kept me from'

“You know that honesty is important to me and that I wouldn't stand for being your lover at home and your room mate in public like Trowa does for Quatre. You've never asked me to hide what we are and what we feel from the world.”

Heero grinned as Duo pulled him into a short but passionate kiss.

“I love that about you.”
`We've never been untrue
And I
'm still here with you
Through all the things we
've never done'

“We've been faithful- not only to ourselves but to each other.”

Duo curled his fingers in the short hairs at the back of Heero neck and smiled at him.

Heero pulled him closer. “So no regrets?”

The braided man sighed happily. “None. I love you.”

“I love you too, Duo.”
