D-POV
To think that Relena had actually gone into the mens department store and bought me some of 'those' things for my birthday.
She bought me tuxedo thongs...three of them...in three different colors....red and black, white and black, and silver and gold. Sally's laughing her ass off, I guess the idea of little miss Relena in the mens lingerie section was too much for her alcohol inhibited mind. I think Howard fell off the chair in his laughter.
So far the night was going good. I got nice presents even if some of them were for a more 'private' use than others but all in all it's been a good birthday. Sally got me five brand new baseball caps all in black, one for each work day. She also got me two t-shirts, one says 'I'm sorry have you seen my marbles? I've seem to have lost them.' and the other says 'Here kitty kitty..Have you seen kitty?' on the front and the back has a picture of a large rottweiler with the dog tag that says 'kitty' on it.
Une let me have two weeks of a anywhere I want, anytime I want, with anyone I want all expense paid vacation sponsored by your local preventers. That was nice of her.
Hilde got me picture frame made out of scraps saved up from deathscythe...genuine black gundanium. Her and Howard also made me matching bookstops in the shape of deathscythe made from the same left over scraps. My
heart ached at seeing my ol' buddy again even if there are two of them at only four inches in height. It's the thought that counts. But surprisingly what really caught my attention was the picture in the picture frame. Obviously it was just a paper printout to illustrate the size of the picture and to also decorate the item to make it look fancy.
The picture was of two little boys with short sandy blond hair....two little twin boys. Identical in every way except for their smile. My heart dropped to my stomach when I saw that picture...I immediately thought of Solo and it made me feel ultimately guilty. Here I am celebrating my seventeenth birthday while Solo never made it past his ninth birthday. He would have been nineteen today.
Happy Birthday Solo.
I guess I got too quiet 'cause Hilde's having second thoughts of the picture frame and tries to take it from me. I freaked out and slapped her hand away and clutched the picture frame close to my chest. Everything got quiet after that, they all just stared at me in bewilderment, Hilde in shock. I think I might've yelled out loud.
"Duo are you okay?" Hilde asks cautiously, I guess I kinda scared her there. "I'm fine Hildey, thanks for the picture frame I...I really like it.." I tell her while still holding my frame against me.
She relaxes and smiles warmly at me.
"Here Duo this is from Trowa, Wufei and I" Quatre speaks up again after so long. He walks up to me and hands me a large box with shiny black wrapping paper and shiny gunmetal grey ribbons on it.
"Thanks Kat, Tro, 'Fei" I say and take the package. I notice there's a few holes in the box. I tear off the wrapping and open the lid. Everyone leans in around me to see what's in the box when a large black labrador puppy jumps out and lands on my chest.
"Whoa...oh..hey there little guy" I grab the puppy off my chest and hold up for everyone to see.
"Oh Duo he's soooo cute! Can I hold him" Relena bounces over and snags the puppy from me and takes off towards the corner of the room with all the girls right behind her.
"Look it's a girl" Hilde says
"So Duo..do...you like her?" Kat asks me in an uncertain tone of voice. He's fidgety and is always trying to please me.
I turn around to face him, "I do, thanks Kat!" I smile at him and grab my drink. This is my fourth drink and is it me or has my drinks been getting stronger 'cause I'm starting to feel tipsy. I don't normally drink and Hilde knows never to add too much alcohol in my servings. Come to think of it Heero got my last two drinks.
"Maxwell" Wufei speaks up and completely startles me from my mental rambling.
"yeah 'Fei" I answer turning around in my seat to face him behind the couch.
"I know that puppy is a shared present the three of us got you but this...is from me" Wufei steps forward and hands out a little box wrapped up in pretty paper with 'Happy Birthday' written all over it.
Well that took me by surprise. I didn't think he was gonna get me something personally.
"Thanks 'Fei" I take the box and unwrap it slowly. It's a little black box the kind jewelry comes in. I guess no one expected Wufei to give me something like this judging by the stunned faces on Kat and Tro. I look at Heero and notice a bit of jealously in his eyes.
I open the box to reveal a silver ring. The decorative top side of the ring was an inch long in a spiral 'S'. I look at him.
"It's a thumb ring, it goes on your thumb it's the fashion for men this season. The 'S' is for shinigami." He informs me.
I take the ring again and slip it on my right thumb. I extend my hand out to look at it, it is a nice ring.
"Thanks 'Fei!" I said and smiled at him. He smiles at me shyly and raises his hand to rub the back of his head in a embarrassed gesture before dropping his hand and walking back to his position by the stairs.
"Hey guys I think we should be heading out, it's already 9:45 pm and Hilde and I ship out for L2 tomorrow at five am." Howard grabs his coat and walks over to me. I stand up and give him a big hug. Good ol' Howie's always been like an uncle to me, him and all the sweepers.
"Thanks for coming Howie, I'm glad you and Hildey could make it." I tell him
"No problem Duo wouldn't miss it for the world." He winks at me and then stalks over to grab Hilde by the arm and drags her over to get her coat.
"Oh bye Duo! Happy Birthday! Don't forget to call me!!" Hildey yells out as she runs after Howard out the front door.
"Bye Hildey!" I yell back
"I should be heading home myself, I have an appointment with a doctor from India who may have discovered a new medicine that can cure hemorrhoids." Sally says plainly.
00 ...........!
"Kidding" she smiles.
Oh..I glance at the guys and notice they too had the wide eyed expression I did. Freaking Sally and her plain humor.
"Happy Birthday Duo" Sally hugs me and waves goodbye to everyone else before closing the front door behind her.
"I suppose that's the cue for the end of the party." Une grabs her and Relena's coats. "I have paperwork that must be done and I believe Relena may be drunk" Une says and looks at Relena on the floor playing with the puppy. She had a definite pink to her cheeks.
"Happy Birthday Duo, let me know when you want those two weeks okay" Une hugs me and helps Relena off the floor saying her goodbyes to the guys while dragging Relena along behind her.
The door shuts and now it's just me and the guys.
I gather up all of my little belongings into a small pile and start picking up the trash and empty plastic cups, paper plates and plastic forks used for my birthday cake. It was a nice cake too, chocolate filling with banana toppings and 'Happy Birthday Duo' scrawled in red jelly on top.
You would've loved it So'.
Just as I was about to grab a plastic bag for all the trash Kat snatches it from me.
"Duo you shouldn't have to clean on your birthday! Let me do it for you please?" Kat asks sincerely. He doesn't even wait for me to answer he just starts cleaning up as quickly as possible.
"Well Maxwell what do you have planned for now?" 'Fei asks me as he takes up the empty arm chair Howard sat in earlier.
"I don't know I haven't really planned anything really." I tell him truthfully "you guys got any idea?" I ask.
"I have one" Heero speaks up finally for the first time tonight. I can see the packet of cigarettes he has in his hands. I really wish he would quite smoking I really hate the smell of burning tar and nicotine.
"What's your idea Heero?"
Ah the other silent one speaks as well. Trowa finally says his two words of the day. Wait that was four words wasn't it?
Heero crosses his arms again and smiles in a evilish kind of way.
"A drinking game"
