Chapter Ten
S-POV
Well this is new.
I've never seen a ceiling without holes in it before.
I sniff the air.
"And it's clean too." I say out loud.
I sit up in the bed I'm lying in and the blanket covering me falls to my waist. I look down at it and I see that it's clean and soft. I touch it, yup soft and fluffy. I look around the room and I can see the place is nice and clean and there's a warm light coming from a lamp that looks like it's made from liquid.
Wow I've never seen one of those before. It's cool. Duo would've liked that.
Duo...
My head starts hurtin' as I think of my baby brother.

'I could pretend to be you and ya can pretend to be me...'

'yeah that'd be so cool, I'd call ya Solo and you'd call me Duo...'

'Let's do it Duo! I'll call ya Solo and ya'll call me Duo, yeah, and we'll stay like that until someone can tell us apart...'

I groan and press my palm to my forehead. Something's not right here. I can feel it in my bones. Something is wrong with Duo but...but Duo's dead.
CRASH
My body jerks with the sound of something crashing. I can hear loud yelling coming from outside the bedroom door. I get up slowly from the bed. I walk quietly towards the door. I place my ear against the wood and try to listen to the sounds from outside. All I hear is more yelling but I can't hear exactly what it is they're saying. Whoever 'they' are.
More yelling continues and I finally decide to open the door and find out what it is 'they' are saying. I crack open the door just a little bit until I can hear more clearly. It's a women I can tell from the high pitched screamin' she's doing.
I look around outside the door and all I see is an empty hallway. I open the door fully and stick my head out to get a better look around. I can't see anyone around but that's probably 'cause they're doing all the yelling. I step out of the room and paste myself against the wall. I start walking quietly to where the noise is coming from and I reach the head of some steps leading downstairs.
The yellin's stopped but I'm not about to give up now. I start heading down the stairs quieter than a cat until I'm halfway down. I stop when I'm able to see downstairs.
"YOU SON OF A BITCH! HOW COULD YOU?!!"
Wow can that chick yell or what?
"HEERO YUY YOU BASTARD!! I SHOULD KILL YOU FOR WHAT YOU'VE DONE TO HIM!!" She keeps screamin'.
Jeez these people are crazy!
"Sally that's enough please."
"Sally please calm down, Heero isn't the only one at fault here-"
"That's right! Your responsible for this too aren't you?! You bastard!"
"Sally please! We are all at fault here and we feel terrible about it. But there's nothing we can do now except try to make the situation better. Please we need your help if we intend to fix this."
I think I've heard about enough. I walk the rest of the way down the steps until I reach the bottom floor. And just as I thought, the fightin' stops.
I look around and I see five people. Four guys and one really pissed off lady. They're looking at me in what I guess should be shock.
I wait for someone to say something but nobody's moved yet so I guess it's up to me to say somthin'.
"Hey"
They look at me like I've just said 'die!' instead of hello.
"My name's Solo."
They look at me funny.
"No disrespect to ya but who are ya?"
H-POV
I have yet to get accustomed to that ugly butchered haircut of his. I think that was the reason I haven't been able to say anything. That and my jaw hurts from where Sally clocked me.
I'll tell you this, women has a mean right hook.
"Solo what are you doing out of bed?" Sally says, sure she's nice to him but hits me.
I look at Duo and his butchered hair.
I say she should of hit me harder and more times.
"Don't know what you're talking about but I'd be really grateful if ya told me." He says standing there looking at us.
He seems so much more different.
Sally approaches him slowly.
"Solo remember when I came to visit you and told you that I'll be giving you an examanination later after you've rested?" Sally explains.
Duo shook his head and smiled warmly. My hands clenched as I took in his smile.
That right there was the geniuine thing. The real deal.
"Sorry I don't remember anything except falling asleep on the street and then waking up in a nice cozy bed. I'm not complainin' mind ya but I'd like to know what's going on." He says still smiling at us.
I need to sit down my knees feel like jello. I need to rest.
Come to think of it I haven't slept in about 24 hours. Shit!
I go sit down on my armchair and sink into the soft cushion contendently. My eyes close as the weariness in my body eases down with the cushion of the chair. My heads been pounding for the last few hours and there's a ringing in my ears. Not to mention the tingling sensation on my jaw from Sallys punch.
"Heero are you alright?"
I open my eyes to see Quatre hovering over me worridly.
"I'm fine Quartre just exhausted." I tell him. He nods at me in understanding and I can see why. He too has bags under his eyes from the crying and worrying he's been doing.
He moves away from me and I see that Sally's gotten Duo to sit down on the couch and let her examine him. She's checking his pupils for dialation. She also checked his blood pressure and heart rate. She sat on my coffee table when she was satisfied with her results.
"Well everything seems okay." Sally says putting away her tools.
"Physically we know he'll be fine but mentally Sally? How is he mentally?" Wufei asks all so suttle.
Sally glared at him.
"His mental examination will be conducted in my office. Now Solo how would you like to go with me to my office?" Sally asks him like she's asking a child.
Wait a minute.
I lunge out of my chair.
"Wait a minute Sally you're not taking Duo anywhere!" I growl.
"I'm not leaving him here with you...you...rapists!!" She yells out.
"Sally please let's just settle down and discuss this more calmly..." Quatre begins.
"Duo will not be left in the hands of incompetent savages!!" She argues back.
"Women enough! I think-"
"What you think doesn't matter to me. I'm taking Duo out of here!" Sally yells again.
"Sally hold on-"
A loud whistle shut us up at once and we turn to look at the figure sitting quietly on the couch.
"Sorry but it's the only way to get your attention." Duo says.
He stands up off the couch facing us. "Now I've seem to 'ave introduced myself but I haven't got your names yet." He takes a few steps toward us. "I've got a few questions for ya, like what exactly is going on here. But more importantly I wanna know how much of Duo do you know?"
I stood there not able to say anything. I just don't know what to think.
Duo stood there watching us. He crosses his arms in front of him and keeps staring at us expecting us to say something.
"His name is Duo Maxwell. He is a gundam pilot for the colony L2. He also refers to himself as Shinigami. He is five feet and four inches. His malnutrition as a child is the reason for his undergrowth height. He weighs approximately one hundred and seventeen pounds. He has-used to have a three foot braid. He is a master of stealth and infiltration. He is also a very good mechanical engineer as well as computer hacker and code breaker. He currently lives in an apartment with one Heero Yuy, his lover and partner for about two years now. He works for the preventers as head of mechanical engineering. And he just turned seventeen years of age." Wufei recites as though he's reciting the Earth Federation's Address of Pacification.
Duo nods taking it all in.
"Okay at least that question's answered." Duo says, he sinks down into the couch and closes his eyes.
I move toward him slowly.
"Duo are you alright?" I ask. I sit on the coffee table across from him. I watch as his eyes slowly open.
"You're Heero right?" He asks suddenly.
I nod.
He smiles.
"I'm glad 'cause your really cute."
