A/N: This was original ly suppose to be a longer story, but&nbs p;I just couldn’t find the
right words.& nbsp; This small song fic was the result . The song is by Shadows Fall and& nbsp;
called Another Hero Lost from the T hreads of Life album. I always picture& nbsp;this to
be Zechs and Duo, but it can really be any pairing. The only&nbs p;evidence of it being
Duo is the v iolet eye reference. I hope you all&nbs p;enjoy it.
I joined the military wh en I was 18, signed up for a six&nb sp;year tour. I am now 23 years old
with less than seven m onths to go. When one signs on tha t dotted line you never think that
you may go to war. I know I n ever did. I must admit I was somewhat excited to be going
off to a distant land to serve&nbs p;my country and strike down my enemy. & nbsp;I was excited until I
met the other half of my soul.
Iâ&e uro;™d never leave you
But fate& nbsp;has come to silence me
Darkness&n bsp;is all that I see

And soon the earth will cover me
It’s become so hard to breath
Forever&n bsp;is waiting

The days were long and hard. My only thought&nbs p;day in and day out was to do the best damn
job I could and maybe, just maybe, I will come home to his waiting&n bsp;arms. We received
orders to infiltr ate an old building in the middle of&nbs p;town. We never saw the ambush coming.
He lay among the rubble propped up on a beam slowly bleeding to death. With cautious  ;
movements he raised his arms and graspe d the edges of the helmet. Ever so slowly the
helmet was removed, gently placing it in his la p. His bloodied fingers took hold of&nb sp;the
photo. A snap shot in time of his perfect family. He clutched the photo as if&nbs p;it could save
him. Alas his eyes closed to never open  ;again.
All of the battles

They leave another&n bsp;thousand lives undone
Another thousands lives undone
The final&n bsp;steps you’re taking
Will& nbsp;soon be buried in the sands
The re was a knock on the door. The&nb sp;young man rose from the couch. Three men stood at
the& nbsp;door dressed in military dress blues. &n bsp;They spoke with a solemn tone of voi ce saying
that his loved one perished&nb sp;in the line of duty. Tears filled&nb sp;large violet eyes. Head shaking
in&n bsp;denial and quivering chin were the only&n bsp;signs the three men had before two s haking
hands covered his face and the&nb sp;person before them collapsed. His body was wracked with sobs and a repetition of denial streamed&n bsp;from his mouth.
You’re g one, but not forgot

The&nb sp;sorrow builds with every passing
All the lessons that you taught
And all the light you brought
Liv es on in the eyes of your son < br> A small voice was heard in the hallway. &n bsp;Seconds later a small boy was being embrace and
told of the honor of th eir fallen love one. Parent and child&n bsp;cried together.
