12: postcard from Quatre

Heero stares at the postcard. It's a gaudy thing with the Winner Children's Hospice painted on the front and bright purple lettering covering the back in Quatre's hand. He wants to know how they're doing, where they are, if they need anything.

The corner is fat with stickers from the forwarding. How it reached them at all is a mystery, but it isn't one he cares to explore. He just stares at the picture on the front.

"Quatre's bought a hospital." Wufei grunts.

"I wonder why." Another grunt.

"Looks nice." Wufei snorts.

"It's pink." A louder snort.

"Duo would have liked it." Quiet, then.

"Duo would have painted it black, just to piss him off." Yes, Heero agreed, he would have. And then he would have spent a month stripping it back so he could paint it pink again, apologising the whole time because it was Quatre.

"I think I like it." Because he likes it, or would have. Wufei just sighs. They both know they would hate it, and that they're not going to write back.

But Heero keeps looking at the postcard, with its fat corner and its loopy purple writing.

Heero wonders if they can make new lives at Quatre's hospital, or if they just try and fix old ones. He doesn't really want to find out, so he passes the postcard to Wufei.

Wufei doesn't read it. He puts it away in the glove box.
