Chapter 4
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Duo sighed as he walked up the front porch of his house; he’d just dropped Hilde off at home. Glancing up, Duo smiled softly at the clear blue sky of November. He loved the freshness of autumn. Duo opened the door and took off his shoes. “I’m home.” He exclaimed as he walked towards the kitchen. “Helen, are you in there?”
“Not Helen, hopefully someone better.” A familiar voice commented from within the kitchen.
“I don’t know. Maybe you’re an intruder who’s come here to do me great harm?” Duo grinned as he entered the kitchen and came face to face with his ‘intruder’. “Hey.” Duo commented as he gave the boy standing in front of him a kiss. “Where’s Helen?” He asked as he pulled out a chair from the table and sate down. A glass of water was placed in front of him.
“Mm, she stepped out for a moment. Said something about picking up your brother from basketball.” The other replied as he went back to the stove and picked up a wooden spoon. Stirring some contents in a pot, he placed the spoon down and turned to face Duo.
Duo finished drinking the water and stood up. Walking over to the other boy he was just about to give him another kiss when the front door flew open. “Duo!” Solo, Duo’s eight-year old half brother shouted as he ran into the kitchen. At the age of seven Duo’s mother Anna, died, leaving his father and himself to fend for themselves. A year later, Duo’s father married Anna’s sister, Helen. Duo still remembered his mother and missed her dearly but he was glad to have Helen as well. The woman was great and she treated him as if he was one of her own. Solo came into the family not to long after that.
“Hey there kiddo.” Duo gave the boy a bear hug as Solo ran up to him. After being put back down on the ground, Solo noticed their company and grinned.
“Heero! I didn’t know you were here. Do you want to play something Grand Turismo 3 on the play station?” Solo asked eagerly.
“Sorry kiddo. Heero’s already got plans.” Duo began but halted as Solo was about to argue. “Solo, listen man, next time Heero’s over or maybe even later on tonight, Heero will play a few games with you, alright?” Duo coerced his brother.
“Later tonight? You promise?” Solo looked at the two seventeen year olds expectantly. He beamed brightly as he received two confirming nods. “Alright.” With that he made his way to the living room to play on the prior mentioned game system.
Helen shook her head as she watched her son leave the kitchen. She smiled to the kitchen’s two remaining occupants. “So, what is planned for this evening?”
“Don’t know, Heero wouldn’t tell me. He,” Duo gave the Japanese boy a pointed look. “Said it was surprise. But I’m assuming that because he’s in the kitchen stirring something, supper is involved somehow.”
“Alright, as long as this evening does not go on past eleven I have no complaints. It is a school night after all.” Helen informed the two boys, completely missing Duo’s frown at the mention of school. Duo lost himself in thought as Heero reassured the woman that he would not be staying past eleven. Helen left the room with a quick good bye to do what ever it was she had to do.
Heero turned to look at his boyfriend with worry. The frown had not been lost on him. “Something happen at school today Duo?” Heero turned down the burner which the vegetables were cooking on and walked over to the other boy. Wrapping his arms around him, Heero gave Duo a loving hug.
“No more than usual. Zechs and Dermail.” At Heero’s inquiring look, Duo continued. “Zechs was dishing out the same bull that I’ve been getting from him since whenever and Dermail was on my case again about not joining the swim team. And as much as I would love to see you in just a Speedo, I don’t need to be around Zechs anymore than need be. Besides the little factor of me not being able to swim plays a big part as well. It’s nothing I can’t handle though. I’ve been doing fine so don’t fret Heero.” Even with his reassuring words, he clung to Heero as if the boy were his lifeline. His reassurance sounded so hollow to himself.
“Duo why do you insist on carrying this alone. I’ve told you countless times that I have no problem with not hiding our relationship from our peers.”
“No, you don’t need to go through the torment that I go through everyday. And you could lose your spot on the team.” Duo did not want to be having this conversation again.
“But think of all the time we would be able to spend together. Now more hiding or sneaking around.” It was Heero’s last shot, not that it ever worked, but hey it was worth the attempt.
“You know what? Hilde said something similar to that, earlier today. And the answer is still no. you have too much going for you to let it get all messed up by me. Enough of this conversation Heero, if only one of us gets hurt, then it's for the better. Besides, it’s not like I can’t hold my own. Now my handsome boyfriend, what are you cooking for me tonight?” Duo changed the subject; any attempt at speaking about that particular subject would just ruin the evening. Which was the last thing Heero wanted to do. They had so few together because of their situation. Duo knew that Heero would never blow him off if they had plans already. Every spare moment that their schedules allowed, the Asian boy was at Duo’s house.
“Fettuccini Alfredo with baked chicken.”
“Mm, sounds divine. Is it ready yet?” Heero chuckled as he directed Duo to one of the chairs at the table. “And what do you have planned after supper?”
“Yes it’s ready.” Heero commented as he placed a bowl in front of Duo, completely ignoring the latter question.
Duo watched the other boy patiently as Heero grabbed his own bowl and sat down across from him. After they both finished eating Duo looked up to Heero, who’d grabbed the dished and was putting them in the sink to be washed with a mischievous smile. “Hey Heero.” Heero looked to the other boy in curiosity. “I got you note. You are such a sap you know that?”
“So you’ve told me many a times before. But don’t deny that you like them, those paper balls as well.”
“Yeah, you’re right, on all accounts at that.” The two did the dishes in a comfortable silence. Once they were done, Duo looked to Heero expectantly. “So what else do you have planned for me oh great king of sappiness?” Duo grinned as Heero arched a brow at the title.
Heero let it pass, shaking his head as he grabbed Duo by the hand and dragged him upstairs to the braided boy's bedroom. Once they got into the room, Heero closed the door and motioned for the boy to sit down on the bed. “Um, what if someone comes in Heero, I don’t think Helen would – “
“She already knows what I have planned. I asked her not to say anything earlier before you got home. So we won’t be interrupted.” Heero reassure the boy as he removed Duo’s shirt and then pushed him flat on his back. Motioning for him to roll over, Duo gave him an indecisive look before doing as he was told. The next thing he knew, Heero was sitting on his backside, hands on his bare shoulders.
“Heero, what…are…you…damn that feels good. Don’t ever stop.” Duo commented as the other boy began to massage his shoulders. Heero gave the best massages ever. Duo hadn’t realized how stressed he was until Heero had started working his magic.
“You’ve been looking a bit stressed as of late. Apparently it’s only gotten worse, Duo you are so tense, relax.” Heero commented as he gave the other boy a chaste kiss on his neck and each shoulder blade.
“You keep doing that and I’ll be more than relaxed. I’m going to be a puddle of goo.” Duo replied as he enjoyed the feel of Heero’s hands on his back. All of a sudden Duo flipped himself onto his back and looked into Heero’s eyes. Heero never stopped the motion of his hands as he began to massage Duo’s chest.
Duo stilled the hands and pulled Heero down on top of him. He kissed the boy thoroughly before giving Heero one of his amazing smiles. “I love you.” Heero whispered into the other boy’s ear. That made Duo shiver before Heero rolled off of him and lay down on his side, facing Duo.
“Mm, same here.” Duo replied as he snuggled closer to Heero and into the other boy's embrace. The two laid there for a while just enjoying the company.
An hour later there was a tentative knock on Duo’s door and a quiet voice following it. “Duo? Heero? Can you come down and play now? I have to go to bed in an hour.”
Duo smiled at his boyfriend lovingly. As energetic and pushy as he was at times, Solo was always patient when the two were in his brother‘s room with the door closed. Solo knew they had few moments where they were alone together and he hated to take them away from those moments. Had Duo told him no he would have said ok and went back to play alone, “Sure kiddo. We’ll be down in a few minutes ok?” getting a happy affirmative, Solo ran back down stairs to wait.
“He’s so adorable.” Heero remarked as he stood up and offered his hand to Duo.
Duo took the proffered hand and stood up as well. “Yeah, he really loves it when you spend time with him.” Duo commented as Heero helped him put his shirt back on.
“He also likes it when you spend time with him as well.” Heero added as he gave Duo a quick kiss before opening the door. When they got downstairs, Solo was waiting patiently for the two. The game was already set to three players and a course was selected.
Duo raised an eyebrow at the boy’s eagerness. The two teenagers sat down side by side on the floor and each grabbed a controller. “Boogaloo buckaroo, you wanted to play, so let’s play.”
Heero gave Duo an amused smile before he nodded his affirmation to Solo.
“Yeah, yeah. Ok let’s start.” Solo exclaimed excitedly.
After an hour of Solo kicking both Heero and Duo’s butts, Helen came into the room and informed the boy that it was bedtime. Solo got up without any complaints and went to brush his teeth. Helen reminded the two that eleven o’clock was the curfew and headed to bed. She had an early morning the next day.
The two wished her goodnight and then sat in each other‘s presence comfortably. Heero reached over to Duo and pulled the boy into his arms. Resting his chin on the boy‘s shoulder, Heero smiled. “You smell good.”
“Oh, and what do I smell like?” Duo turned his head towards the other boy, leaning his back against Heero’s well-built chest.
“You smell like Duo. What else would you smell like?” Heero asked as he gave Duo’s lips a soft kiss.
“You mean you’re not going to tell me I smell like violets or strawberries or something corny along those lines?”
Heero arched a brow at the boy before shaking his head negatively. “You are too manly to ever smell like a flower or fruit.”
“And you are still as corny as ever.” Duo commented with a grin.
Heero snorted. “I resent that.”
“Sure you do. Hey what time is it anyways?” Duo asked as he began to look for the nearest clock.
Heero glanced down at his watch, “Ten. When are you free again? Maybe we can go to my house next time?” the short hair boy wondered allowed.
“Um, let’s see. I’ve got work tomorrow till eleven and then Thursday I have both drama and work till 10 and Friday I’m working till close. Saturday I’m off and Sunday I’m working till six in the afternoon. What about you?” Duo inquired as he rechecked his list mentally to make sure there were no errors.
Heero nodded as he assimilated the information. “Well tomorrow is out of the question, but maybe I’ll stop by on your break. Wednesdays aren’t normally to busy at ‘Teen Bop’.” The ‘Teen Bop’ was the only under age bar in the entire city. All they sold there was non-alcoholic beverages. They also had a mini restaurant. It was kind of like the town‘s teen youth centre. Duo was one of the bartenders there. He always worked till 11 on Wednesdays. “Thursday I have swimming practice and I’m working till nine-thirty. Tell you what. After I’m done work, I’ll pick you up when you are done your shift. I’ll park at the staff entrance in the back. Sound good to you? That way we can spend an hour together.”
Duo shook his head; that just wouldn’t work. “No can do. I have drama after class remember; therefore I have to go straight to work from school. And it isn’t a fifteen minute walk like it is from home. I have to take the car.”
“Damn. I guess Thursday is out.” Duo gave him an apologetic smile. “That’s ok; Friday is out of the question as well, besides I’m working till seven.”
“Maybe we can do something this weekend, and if it’s possible could you help me with my math. Wufei is going away for the weekend and we have that math test on Monday. I really need the help.” Duo looked at Heero hopefully.
Heero went pensive as he tried to remember whether or not he had anything pre-planned. “Saturday I have a swim meet, but it’s only till four. I’m available after supper on Sunday.” Duo gave him a brilliant smile.
“Well I guess you should be going. It is almost eleven and whether Helen is in bed or not, she will know what time you left at. So I’ll see you at school and later on tomorrow night if you get a chance.” Duo commented as he walked the other boy to the door. Before leaving Heero gave Duo a quick kiss goodbye that left them both breathless. Neither one of them would ever get enough of each other. After making sure Heero made it to his car safely, Duo closed and locked the front door before he made his way up to his room to go to bed.
