Chapter 1
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Duo sat down in his computer class muttering to himself, Zechs Merquise had just finished spending the entire half hour before class tormenting him. God life sucked at times. Zechs' reasoning for the tormenting was that he enjoyed their time spent together. There wasn't too much Duo could do about it either, the senior was just to high up on the social scale for anyone to do anything. The fact that Zechs was the captain of the swim team didn't help either.
It wasn't that Duo was that unpopular, quite the contrary, lots of people liked him. If what he looked like and not his personality, that wasn't his problem. He just didn't want the constant horde of wanna bee's around him. If you were popular you had to keep up an image and people always talked about you. Besides, if he'd wanted the popularity he could have had it with a snap of his fingers. He had the looks, the charm and he wasn't necessarily for lack of money either. Sure he was a semi goth and an expert at computers but he didn't flaunt the later aspect of himself to everyone. Nor did he proclaim himself better then everyone.
At the very moment however, Duo could have been the most unpopular kid in high school, all over the world. After all, Zechs had seen to that. The older teen was a complete homophobic and as soon as he'd found out that Duo was gay, the blond had made him his new target. Of course, Duo still had his best friends and those that knew him personally.
Duo shook his head to get rid of the thought. He noticed Hilde walk in and sit beside him, in her assigned seat. "Hey Duo. You looked a bit bitter side when I walked in. Something wrong?" The girl asked as she ruffled her blue locks. Hilde had been one of Duo's best friends since he'd started high school. Victorian high had been absolutely horrifying when he'd started. He ran into her in one of his classes and she had just clicked with him. They'd gone out once and both agreed that it wouldn't work out. They'd decided that being friends would be a better relationship to have.
Duo merely rolled his eyes at her question. "You know, the same old stuff, Dermail gave me a hard time for not joining the swim team, Zechs made fun of me for being gay, the usual. I see you changed your hair color once again." Duo commented. The girl was constantly changing her hair color every two weeks. It was always unpredictable as to which color she would pick next, but you could always expect a new one. Her unpredictability was probably why she was in the drama club with him and a few other friends.
"Man will they never stop. Don't worry Duo, Zechs will get what's coming to him one day. And yeah, I got tired of the lime green." Hilde made a goofy smile at the boy before changing the subject. "Do you know if we are meeting Wufei and Meiran for lunch today?"
"Yeah, we are. Wufei is going to be late, I think he said he had a doctors appointment of sorts. Meiran will meet us in the cafe." Duo replied while he booted up his computer.
"Alright, oh yeah, wasn't Wufei's eye doctor's appointment today?" Hilde asked as she followed Duo's lead.
"Yeah, something like that." Duo replied before he turned around to pay attention to Otto as the teacher finished taking attendance.
Otto was Duo's favorite teacher. The man was a great person to talk to about everything and anything. He had been one of the few that knew Duo was gay before Zechs had found out. After three years of having him as a teacher, Duo had broken down to the man, half way through his third year of high school. He'd told him everything about him being homosexual, his immense crush on this one guy and all of his fears if anyone was ever to find out. He, of course, left out the part of Zechs constantly picking on him. Yes, Zechs had always picked on him, even before knowing Duo was gay. That little aspect of himself just seemed to fuel the others fire.
Otto had promised he wouldn't tell a soul and the man hadn't. Since that day, Duo had talked to Otto about many different subjects. The topics varying from school to going out with his new boyfriend. Otto never seemed to care about what they talked about. He seemed to just enjoy the company. In turn, the teacher would tell Duo about his wife and two kids, Jeremy and Jenny.
As usual, Duo whizzed through his assignments and by the end of the class he'd finished chapter four of the novel he was writing. He poked Hilde in the arm a few minutes before the bell went off, signaling that she should get her things together. The two walked out of the class room as the bell went off and made their way to their lockers.
"Duo, don't forget we have drama after school today." Hilde reminded the boy as she stuffed her books into her locker at the same time as she pulled out the needed books for her next class.
"Um Hil, I'm not going to the practice today. I'm supposed to be meeting - Hi Travis. How are you this fine day. Good I hope." Duo paused as he shoved everything into his locker before pulling out his needed books. Travis nodded before blatantly ignoring Duo and turning his complete attention to Hilde.
Travis wrapped his arms around Hilde's waste before leaning down and giving her a peck on the cheek. "Do you want a ride after school today? I've got my mom's car." Travis asked.
"Sorry Trav, I've got drama today after school. I'll call you for sure when I get home though. Duo will give me a ride anyway." Hilde commented as she closed up her locker. Duo was about to protest but decided against it. There was probably a good reason why Hilde had turned down her boyfriends offer.
"Alright Hil. I guess I'll see you later then." Travis gave her a quick kiss on the cheek before he turned and walked down the hall.
"Hil, I already told you, I'm not going to drama this afternoon. I have prior engagements." Duo reminded his friend.
"Duo, he wont mind, trust me, he will probably be waiting for you at your house like every other time." Hilde pointed out as they began walking towards their next class.
Duo pointedly ignored the fact that she was right. After all he would be arguing for nothing. "Why did you refuse a ride from Travis anyway? Relationship problems or something?"
"Not really. Travis just tends to go off on tangents about me hanging out with you and they are really starting to get on my nerves, that's all."
Duo nodded to her reply and decided to drop the subjects. Travis had been fine with him until he'd found out that Duo was gay. the boy was a grade A homophobe. The only reason Hilde was still with him was because Travis was actually very nice to her and never acted on his phobia other than rant about Duo. "Hey did you notice if Silvia was in class today?" Duo pondered as he walked into English and took his usual seat.
"No she wasn't, I believe she said yesterday that she wasn't feeling well. She probably came down with the flu or something." Hilde reassured him as she took the seat behind Duo. "Hey Relena, how are you today?"
Duo looked up from his text book to find non other than the sister of the one person that had been tormenting him for the past three years. Relena Peacecraft stood at her desk wearing one of her cardigan sweaters and a light blue knee length skirt. Her hair was pulled back in it's usual fashion with two small braids on either side of her head pulled together at the back.
Her brother Zechs was a year ahead of them and the only reason they didn't share the same last name was because their parent's had divorced and Relena's mother had both hers and her daughters last names changed back to Peacecraft. Zechs had stayed with his father and kept his fathers last name.
The two were nothing alike other than the type of clothing they wore and their popularity status. Relena was nice, Zechs was an ass.
"Hi Hilde, Duo. Did you guys finish that assignment due for today?" the blonde girl inquired as she sat down in the unoccupied desk beside Duo. "It sure was a difficult one. I swear Mrs. Une just keeps making them harder and harder each time."
"I know, and it's not like she's making it any easier on herself. She, after all, has to correct them once they are handed in. how's cheerleading coming along?" Hilde asked, not really wanting to talk about school work. That assignment had been a pain in the but after all.
"It's coming, we were asked to go to the next swim meet in two weeks. Which means we will be having a practice almost every day starting this afternoon." Relena sighed at the thought of so many practices.
"Sounds like fun." Duo commented as he pulled out his assignment.
"Oh, Relena, Silvia wont be there this afternoon. She wasn't feeling well yesterday and she wasn't in class during first period." Hilde informed the other girl.
"Yes, I know, she called me this morning to tell me she wouldn't make it. Thanks for telling me though."
"No problem. There's Mrs. Une, you better get back to your seat before she has a fit." Hilde giggle at the thought of a red faced Une, and waved to Quatre who had just entered the room. He took the seat that had just been occupied by Relena and sighed in relief as the bell went off. "Great timing there Quatre. Any later and you would have been late."
Quatre merely shook his head as Une began her lesson on Macbeth.
