***

As both girls looked back, towards the tree nearby, a look of complete shock came across their faces, while Urden just shook his head, slightly amused with himself. He knew something like that was going to happen when he walked by the two just a few minutes ago, though, if he knew the reasons why it was happening, he may not have been so amused.

Trowa had Eddy up against the tree by the collar of his shirt. His visible eye narrowed dangerously. Apparently the 'thunk' was Eddy's backpack hitting the ground, and the 'thump' was Eddy actually hitting the tree.

***

Trowa, with out thinking, said the first things that came to mind. "Oh, and let me guess; you told her you would always be there for her and to forget about me because she needs to move on. I even bet you got her to think you care!" He bit back sarcastically, "You knew very well that I was joking when I said that she was stalking me. Also, let me tell you something, Ficial, I actually do care about her, more than you can comprehend. I may be going out with Mel, but she's still close to me, and I'd kill any fucker that screwed with her," Trowa pulled Eddy back up again and this time his backpack fell off. He, again, pushed him against the tree, "I swear, if I find out that you touched her, I'll make you worse off than Adam" He stopped his sardonic whisper to see his reaction to the name. Absolute fear engulfed all of Eddy's features and Trowa let him see his smirk, "I see you recognize the name. Good" Just as he was about to restate his message once more so it was clear, their meeting was interrupted.

"Triton! What in the nine hells are you doing?" Catherine had come beside the two and put a hand on his trying to get him to let go, but he would not. She had even called him by his original birth name, a thing she only did when she was annoyed, angry or worried about him, yet his grip did not ease. His eyes transfixed on Eddy, glaring at him; into him!

Then suddenly he let go, letting Eddy fall the six inches or so that had been added in to his height on the second thrust to the tree. He was looking at Relena, who was also holding his hand, with an apologetic look. He looked away again and held out a hand to Eddy for him to take.

Eddy's shock almost overwhelmed him. One minute Trowa was threatening his life, the next he was picking him up. He looked to his side, and there stood Relena. And to the other side stood Catherine. As his thoughts conjured a plan to make Relena feel bad for him, he noticed the big hand on her shoulder. As he moved behind her, his eyes traveled up the torso of one in a black trench coat and chain mail with shoulder length black hair. Any plans that he would make went out in a puff of smoke. No way would he risk one, getting on the mighty Urden's bad side, or two, have Relena shun him and Urden kick his ass for trying to deceive the lady. He accepted the hand and stood.

Trowa leaned in and whispered one warning. "Are you alright?" was said out loud. He nodded, "Good this doesn't leave us" he whispered, "Heed my warning, I do not go back on my word" Trowa pulled back as Eddy gulped unconsciously and nodded.

"Well," started Catherine, "Eddy Ficial, it seems you had gotten yourself in a bad place" She said with a smile, but hoped that the underlining question, of what was going on, would get though. It did not. As for Relena though, she knew what it was about, and she felt guilty for it. "Okay fine, don't tell us!" Catherine burst, earning a small smile from Trowa, "Let us head back to the steps. You know, to your freshman girlfriend" she looked pointedly at Trowa. Melissa was in fact a freshman. She was actually a year younger than Trowa, but stood back twice. Relena, in tenth grade, also missed a year, but for more acceptable reasons. Actually, out of all of them, the oldest was Urden, then Trowa, who was a year behind with 17. Most everyone else was in tenth or eleventh grade, with the exception of Melissa.

The group continued back across the grass to the steps. Trowa momentarily glared at Catherine for the comment, but then stepped beside Relena to continue walking. Melissa and Duo, once noticing the incoming crowd, began walking towards them. Melissa didn't like how Relena was walking next to Trowa, or how Catherine was in between Trowa and Eddy. Duo didn't like how Urden had a hand still on Relena's shoulder, nor did he like Trowa walking with her. (AN: Walking formation goes; Urden-Relena-Trowa-Catherine-Eddy)

As Duo came close to the group he pointedly stepped in-between Relena and Trowa, and practically pulled Urden's hand of her shoulder. Normally Urden would have done something to get the insolent to know that he didn't appreciate, and he bet the Relena didn't either, that type of open scorn and disrespect. But as he looked toward 'Lena, he let it go. Her features showed no remorse if she felt any, so he let it alone. He had no desire to get Relena angry with him, though accomplishing such a thing would be hard to do anyway- for, as far as he was concerned, she let things go to easily and that usually did her more harm than good- so in order to accomplish such a thing you would have to do something that went against her morals, like lying for example, would make her hold you at a distance for quite sometime…but of course, in the end she always forgave. He often wondered whether that was a good thing or not.

Melissa's actions were not much different than Duo's. She wrapped an arm possessively around Trowa's waist, and he put an arm around her shoulders. This provoked a glare from Catherine, not at all liking the connotations of Mel's smirk. Catherine was sure of one thing though: If Melissa had not taken away his attention, she was sure Trowa would have a glare that rivaled both Urden and Heero's together.

The group made their way back to the steps. The bell would ring soon and they each took comfort in that, all for different reasons.

***

As the bell rang, Relena made a clean get-away to her locker, ahead of everyone else. 'Lets just hope I can get all my things out of my locker before the others catch up' It seemed as though every ones' lockers were so very close, and she hoped beyond hope that she'd have all her books before the others caught up with her and started asking the inevitable questions. She rounded the corner and came to the doors two lockers away from her own. Just as she stepped through the door, a mere step or two away from her locker, she stopped instantly.

Right in front of her locker stood Urden Ivey, leaning casually against her locker, as if he had been waiting for her to come for ten minutes, when the bell had wrung barely a minute ago.

"Got here awfully quick 'Lena" she couldn't stop the undeniable need to form some argument.

"You should talk" Urden visibly stiffened at her harsh, somewhat accusing, tone, and she instantly felt guilty for her own lack of self-control. It seemed, though, as if it didn't affect Urden any further.

"Well, long legs have their advantages. You know, other than helping my head to hit the tops of doors." He stopped to let her absorb his slight humor, and also for her to know that she has no need to be on the defense. "Any way, I think we should talk later on 'Lena. It seems as though you are hiding something. You know I'm always here. If not for my ears, then for my absorbent shoulders." Relena didn't miss the reference for a 'shoulder to cry on', nor did she miss the sincerity that was lacking in the last offer she had gotten, very similar to that one. She started to wonder if she should start watching herself around Eddy. 'No, Eddy has no desire to hurt me! I will believe that till I am proven wrong…' But in her thoughts, even that sounded too familiar. It was the same thing she kept telling herself on the way to Duo's. Again she shook her head, 'NO! Duo isn't going to hurt me either!'

She nodded her consent to Urden as she opened her locker. Urden let her see a small smile then he bound off with his long strides, alluding people into thinking his walk was his run, down the hall to go to his own locker.

Relena looked down to her schedule. She had first lunch today. That meant Heero and Cathy had the same lunch as well, seeing as they were both in her fourth period class. She would have to check around and see who else had lunch with them on Day 6ª She looked over her schedule again and grabbed her English/Lit and Algebra 2 books and notebooks. She had Business/Politics first period but they had a presentation or movie of some sort and didn't need any materials for that class. She placed her coat inside her locker and took out her CD player and the book she was currently reading.

Just as she was shutting her locker door she heard the voices of Melissa and Sylvia. Relena rolled her eyes and damned her lack of luck. Those two had the biggest mouths in all the school as far as Relena was concerned and you could usually hear them, two or three blocks away, never mind down the hall or across the street. She abruptly turned and went the opposite way down the hall. She really had no desire to see the two females, and she really hadn't the heart to see Trowa tripping over himself for one of them.(AN: He's supposed to be graceful right?)

Just as she walked through the doors she heard Duo's laugh from a bit farther down the hall, making his way to his own locker. Suddenly she felt trapped. She had no desire to see any of the people that she would inevitably walk by, which would mean talking. She felt a bit guilty for it; she didn't want to talk to her own 'boyfriend'! She was about to reconsider her choice of avoiding most of her friends and greet Duo when some one called her from a classroom across the hall.

"'Lena!" Heero called her from the classroom across from her locker. "Relena! In here!" A wave of relief flooded him when she finally looked up to him. He hated having to raise his voice above the norm. It made him sound menacing.

Heero waved her in the class, and she nodded. He was sure he saw relief on her face when he had called to her. He was also sure he saw worry when she had looked down the hall, where he knew Duo was.

"Heya Heero"

Heero responded with a nod, "'Lena"

Relena sighed in exasperation. "You know, you are like a contradiction of terms. How can you nod to some one in greeting as if they are an acquaintance, but use the casual form of their name at the same time?"

Heero bowed his head to hide his smile, and shrugged, "So when do we have Algebra today?"

"Algebra third and Carpentry fourth after lunch" Sure he already knew that, but he needed some reason to call her in.

Heero contemplated for a second, "Didn't the Carpentry teacher say something about a new student today or tomorrow?"

"Yeah. Miss. Nomahny said there would be a new girl coming in. She didn't say much else about her though." The two stood in silence for a second, then Heero pulled out the donut he got at Dunk'n Donuts that morning, "You know Heero, you have to give me a bite of that?"

Reluctantly, for no man likes to part with his food, he handed the French cruller to her.

"Thanks Heero. Well, I'm going to head to homeroom, I'll see you in Algebra." Heero nodded and watched her go. A few seconds later; "Hey! Relena! MY DONUT!"

***

Relena's day went about as usual. The presentation didn't seem very informative in first period, and in English there was a debate between the teacher, Relena and Urden about Shakespeare's 'Love's Labours Lost' play.

Every once in a while, though, she noticed that Silvia was glaring at her or that the Turner girls, Becky and Ashley, kept giggling when ever they thought she wasn't paying attention.

Relena shrugged it off. She didn't need problems with Sylvia or the Turners. Having problems with them meant problems with the entire prep-like group of the student body. She had enough to deal with at home and with her own emotions to deal with a useless quarrel.

As for this very moment, she was headed to algebra. She weaved in and out of the crowd in the halls. Being as graceful as she was never had it's down's it seemed. The only other people, who could move like she could in the halls, disappearing and reappearing as easily as a shadow, were Urden, Duo, and Trowa.

She slipped into the room and took her seat. Right after her came Heero. Relena went to the back of the class and talked with him while people in the class filed in. Right before the last five came in the teacher arrived and Relena returned to her assigned seat in the 2nd to first seat in front, all the way on the opposite side of the room than Heero. The last person to enter was Melissa Jerkins, who, as far as Heero could tell was kissing someone goodbye in the hall, presumably Trowa. As she took her seat, diagonal from Heero, and farther from Relena, she sent a smile her [Relena's] way.

Their algebra class was always loud and they barely got anything done. There was always some sort of distraction. During these classes, Heero and Relena would pass notes and drawing to each other, occasionally Melissa would join in too, but not all the time.

<note: Relena/Heero/Mel>

Heh, sometimes I wonder why this isn't my favorite class, we never do anything school related. Anyway, there's wrestling today right?

Relena threw the note over the class while the teacher had his head down and looking away. Heero caught it with ease and read and responded, then slid it back across the floor. This continued through most of the class.

It isn't your favorite class BECAUSE we don't do anything. Yeah, Duo and Mel are supposed to have a match. And I think Eddy has one with some one too. He also wants to use me as their test dummy for some new move. Why?, are you going?

Yeah. Trowa invited me so we can hang out after too. Maybe watch for a bit then go to his house and play video game or something. So Duo and Mel huh?

Hn, I bet you're silently wishing he screws up and 'accidentally' hits her.

*gasp* Nuh uh, okay… maybe a little...but no more than you are likely to 'slip' and hit Eddy! *accusing glare*

Heh heh, yep, exactly. At least I don't deny it.

As Heero slid the note back, Melissa sent him one as well. They went back and forth once or twice before Relena got his attention again.

Hmph

Hey 'Lena, look at this; this is what the note from Mel said:

You didn't see anything that happened in the hall before class right?

No, what happened?

Oh, nothing…

R-i-g-h-t…?

What?! I was just given someone a kiss before we went to our classes.

That someone would be Trowa, right?

-And that's as far as I got.

Okay…does that just not seem right to you?

Nope, and neither does her answer.

What did she say?

"Uh…sure…" I don't like this…

After Relena got the note back, the bell rang. When she looked up, Heero just shrugged and left. Just as she was about to catch up to him Melissa jumped in her way.

"You seem to be in a hurry."

"I'm hungry and I have lunch with Heero, Urden, and Trowa. I'm hoping I can get food off of them, or maybe just get one of them to get something for me." She wanted to laugh when she saw Melissa's face contort when she mentioned Trowa, 'but alas, I do have some self control, damnit all…'

ª In this fic, the school system and schedule goes through a period of day; day one through seven. Each day has six periods, and 50 minutes per period with the exception of second period, where lasts 75 minutes instead. The school building has 4 floors and the basement. If a student has their 4th period class on the 1st, 2nd, or basement floors then they have first lunch and then go to 4th period. If they have it on the 3rd or 4th, or have Phys Ed then they will have 2nd lunch and go to 4th period before going to lunch. I hope that's not too confusing, but I thought it would be good to explain one of the settings with a little more depth.
