It had been a month since Duo was rescued.

Vulnerable and lifeless Duo lay.
<I looked away>
Dinner had to be cooked.
<You on fire> “Fuck Hilde!”
It was already late.
<I watched a change in you> Wildly Duo thrashed around in bed.
Constant nightmares.
<It's like you never had wings> His Preventor uniform layed forgotten.
<Now you feel so alive>
Duo rose out of bed.
<I've watched you change> Violently Duo grabbed Hilde forcing her onto the bed.
<I took you home>
Violated Hilde cried inside.
<Set on the glass> Duo was just still sick.
He meant nothing he did.
<I pulled of your wings> Hilde grabbed the ringing phone.
“No, Duo's retired.”
<Then I laughed>
False appearances of a happy life.
<I watched a change in you>
Duo stared at the ceiling.
<Like you never had wings>
Hilde grabbed her clothes.

Over to the pile of Preventor clothes Hilde pulled out a small box. For a moment she turned it in her hands.
<I look at the cross>
<Then I look away>
<I give you the gun> Hilde folded Duo's fingers over the gun.
Duo aimed.
<Blow me away>
~BANG~
<I watched a change in you> Heero quit knocking on the door.
The gun landed at Hilde's feet.
<It's like you never had wings>
“Duo?”
<Now you feel so alive>
Their eyes met before Duo walked away.
<I watched you change> Heero grabbed Duo's arm.
“Why?”
<You feel alive>
Duo shook his head.
“I am Shinigami.”
<You feel alive>”At most a solider only.”
“Not Duo Maxwell.”
<You feel alive>
“No,” Heero tightened his grip.
<It's like you never had wings>
Heero let go of Duo.
<I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I>
His friend was gone. No laugher, no sparkle in his eyes, no Duo. Heero closed his eyes pretending he could still here Duo's laughter.
<You changed>
Heero hugged Duo.
<You changed>
Then Heero slugged him hard.
<You changed>
“No major brain damage thus far, but I'm worried about the baby…”
