Gundam Wing Fan Fiction ❯ Chupacabras Synchronicity ❯ Seven ( Chapter 7 )
Chapter Seven
"So, what did you hear?" Quatre asked, knowing Trowa had been using his gift through most of the meeting with the professors. He also knew Trowa was on edge; had known even before he locked the door. Trowa was worried about something and Quatre was determined to discover what.
When Trowa didn't answer Quatre got worried, he sat up and pulled Trowa down into his lap, swapping places as he ran his fingers through the silky brown hair. Trowa let his muscles relax under his ministrations and a knowing smile played on Quatre's lips. He loved knowing Trowa would not relax for anyone else.
"Professor J is planning something. He wants to find one of those things alive. He thinks it can help him finish his life's work."
Quatre's fingers almost stopped playing in his hair, only continuing through sheer force of will.
"His life work is to take over the world, using us as pawns."
"I know," Trowa whispered so softly Quatre almost missed it.
There was something else troubling Trowa, Quatre could feel it, lying just beneath the surface. He could have simply read it from the boy's mind, but he had long ago decided he would not touch Trowa with his gift. He wanted their relationship to be honest and open.
"Did you see the way he was looking at Duo?"
Quatre frowned. He had been expecting something about Professor G, perhaps a sign both men were `in on it'. Duo had not been part of the expected equation. However, now he thought about it, Professor J had been a little overly interested in Duo, and there had been something in his eyes that just made Quatre uncomfortable. He recalled how Duo had moved behind Heero at one point, as if afraid of something, and how Trowa had put himself between them all.
"You tried to help him," He noted proudly, leaning down to place a kiss on Trowa's forehead.
"I just..." Trowa tried to find the words. "Haven't they been through enough? Why won't the professors just leave them alone. Leave us all alone."
Quatre couldn't agree more. He also knew it wasn't going to happen. The professors had spent years trying to make Psionicists that were strong enough to control multitudes of people. Then Duo had come along, thrown Heero at them to give them everything they had ever wanted, and then thrown all their dreams down the drain by destroying what Heero had created. Quatre had no doubts the Professors wanted revenge, and they knew Duo was responsible for what had taken place. He also knew the professors were not stupid. They knew Duo was powerful and his inadvertent admission that he had destroyed a Chupacabra suddenly took on a whole new light.
Somehow, Duo, with only a smidgen of his ability, had splattered one of those things across an entire room. Duo, who was no frequency and the ability to destroy all things wrapped up in one neat little package. In Duo, Quatre knew Shinigami breathed life.
If Duo could do that, if his ability was somehow boosted by the presence of the Chupacabra, then what if Heero was to get close enough? If his powers were magnified again...He could return their Psionic gifts to their original state. They would be strong again, perhaps stronger than ever before!
The professors had already figured as much. Quatre blanched. The question was, what would they do about it? Last time they had kidnapped Quatre, coerced Wufei with love and endearment, and finally attacked Duo himself to get him to reveal his secrets. But what did death know that no one else did?
"Everything."
Quatre looked at Trowa in surprise, only then realising he had been thinking aloud. Wanting a small piece of revenge and finally unable to ignore the fact his lover was lying submissively in his lap, Quatre grinned.
"Everything?" Quatre quirked a brow at his lover and smiled. It wasn't missed by Trowa who chuckled lightly.
"Yes, everything. Do you honestly think Heero would wait?"
With that the entire tone of their `meeting' changed, Quatre rolling onto his back as Trowa laid himself out on top, tongue's warring without words.
"If Duo knows everything, perhaps I should have him educate me?" Quatre teased as Trowa scalloped his way down the smaller boy's chest.
"I thought you wanted Duo alive?" Trowa asked, deadpan. Quatre smiled and suddenly tore Trowa's shirt open, the buttons flying in all directions. He smiled at the devious look in Trowa's eyes. In life he was cool, calm, collected Quatre Rubarba Winner. In the bedroom he was just as deadly as his partner.

Wufei stared at the door in consternation. He had not wanted to come here. Had not wanted anything to do with Milliard Peacecraft, but right now he needed his lover's touch and Treize was in Milliard's room. Jealous rage was threading its way through Wufei's veins and he only kept it down with the strongest of wills. He was trained to ignore his rage. To be cold, calculating. He knocked on the door.
It opened and none other than Relena Peacecraft ushered him in. The sight that met him was anything other than what he had expected. Of course, he should have known it would happen eventually, but so soon?
Sitting in a tight circle were the Psionicists they had faced last year during the Psionic Saga. Relena, Milliard, Hilde, Une, Sally and Treize. Only the professors were missing. It made him uneasy, to be so easily welcomed into this foreign circle.
Careful not to touch anyone, Wufei threaded is way through the group to Treize's side, pushing his chair right up against the older boy's. He made sure he was touching shoulders, needing the comforting touch of his lover but not wanting to show it in front of these people. Treize understood perfectly.
"Right, so you think the professors are still up to something?" Une asked coldly.
"Yes," Milliard replied simply, nodding his head. He and Treize shared a look but what it could mean was anyone's guess.
"Then we should do whatever we can to help them," Relena said quickly, her chin high, daring them to defy her. Wufei wanted to slap her across the face. Was she mad? Why would anyone want to help the professors?
"Why would we want to do that?" Sally asked. Everyone was silent. Wufei had the feeling she hadn't spoken during the meeting and was glad he had arrived to hear this. There was something about Sally Po. She didn't take anyone's crap, and Heero trusted her. Wufei actually liked her. It was a heady combination that put her in their favour.
"Why?" Relena echoed indignantly. "Because it is right? They have done nothing but what is best for us, and their offer has not changed. They will make us great."
"Then this has nothing to do with the fact you are still determined Maxwell has brainwashed his friends into defying the professors and that Heero is really madly in love with you and not him?" Sally quirked an eyebrow.
"No!" Relena snapped irritably. "Though I still think that boy has done something heinous! This has to do with what is best. We cannot leave the fate of our gifts in the hands on Duo Maxwell. It must be in the hands of those who know what is going on, and can utilise our gifts to better humankind."
"You can't be serious?" Wufei interjected, more than a little annoyed. Duo had almost given his life to save them from what the professors had planned. Add to that Relena's insulting remark concerning brainwashing and Wufei wished he had his katana on him.
"I can assure you I am perfectly serious, Chang Wufei. I do not expect you to understand, as you are evidently under the influence of Duo Maxwell! I have nothing against the boy, but he needs to be put in his place!"
Wufei almost lunged at her. Only Treize's iron grip on his arm held him back. Milliard sensed the tension in the room and decided they all needed a good night's rest to consider what they were going to do. Each was to decide for themselves what to do. Soon only Treize and Milliard were left in the room with Wufei.
Someone knocked on the door and Sally Po put her head back in. She nodded to Treize and then turned to Wufei.
"When are you meeting to discuss your plans?"
Wufei was startled. They had not thought about what they were going to do, but Wufei had a feeling it would be no different to every other time.
"Breakfast." Everything was talked about at breakfast. That way they could be sure Duo would be quiet enough for the others to speak.
"I will be there."
Wufei wanted to hug her. He had known she was not like the others, that given the chance she would do what was right, and what kept them out of harm's way. She had spent days on end making sure each of them were unharmed after the Psionic Saga and she was determined to continue that work now. Wufei was smiling openly when she left, closing the door behind her.
"I take it you like Sally?" Treize noted, rolling his eyes.
Wufei looked at him levelly and replied bluntly.
"So does Heero."
That shocked both men into silence, leaving Wufei the opening he needed.
"If you agree with your sister, Milliard Peacecraft, I intend to kill you before this escapade is through."
"I can assure you Wufei I am nothing like Relena. She is...too eccentric in her views concerning your friend, and her judgement is clouded by her desires. She cannot see that Heero loves Duo. She cannot see that Heero has no interest in her. It makes her...overzealous."
"That's an understatement," Treize whispered under his breath.
"I have to tell Heero about this."
"We know," Treize and Milliard replied in unison. It was not until then that Wufei realised he had been allowed to listen in on their meeting in the full knowledge all that was said would be reported on to his friends. Milliard, for whatever reason, was trusting him. Perhaps it was because of Treize, or maybe Wufei had finally done something to prove himself to the blonde. Whatever the reason, Wufei felt his hatred of the blonde lessen. It was time to make new pacts, he knew, and perhaps having Milliard as an ally was not such a bad idea.
"What are we going to do about Relena?" Wufei asked, curious to see what they would say.
"Relena is not the problem," Milliard replied stoically. "It's the orders she will follow."
Wufei could not agree more. Something had to be done about the professors.
