The door opened with a hiss of decompressed air, and Duo was thrown forward. He left a trail of bright read beads of blood behind him, the ruby liquid oozing from his abused palms. He was floating in a shuttle bay, heading inexorably towards the exit.
Where a surprised looking Heero Yuy was floating.
“02, status?” he called, trying to fall back into his Soldier mentality.
“Down, but not out,” Duo replied, still drifting towards him. “I dunno how mobile I am, 01. We're probably being monitored. Said something `bout the game only just beginning if I got free.”
“I killed the perpetrator about ten seconds before I saw you. Safe.”
Duo nodded. “01, I… I'd like to get to a safe house.”
“A doctor is where you're going.”
“Thanks.”
“Anytime,” Heero said softly as he caught Duo gently. He swore when he saw the state of his palms and wrists. “Ok, how are your ribs?”
“Bruised, not broken.”
“Good. Put an arm over my shoulders, and I'll steady you around your waist. There's zero grav on the entire ship.”
“01?”
“Yes?”
“Can I blow this tub once we're clear?”
“I'll even lend you the gun. You don't want to know what I saw in some of the other rooms I passed. It's like a waking nightmare.”

Once they were on board Heero's vessel - his private ship, Duo was not to groggy to notice - Duo finally allowed himself to relax. And felt for the first time just how much he was hurting. He slid into the co-pilot's seat, and eyed the controls for the missile launchers. He could manage to press two buttons no matter what shape his hands were in - his thumbs were pretty much ok anyhow.
Heero gave him a sidelong glance, but allowed him to keep his seat. “Once we're clear, I'll go onto autopilot and we'll see what can be done about your injuries.”
Duo watched in a daze as Heero's strong hands manipulated the controls. He flew them to a safe distance away, then did something by leaning over and manipulating the buttons on the console in front of Duo.
“Wha…”
“I've locked them on target. All you need to do is push the buttons,” Heero told him, something fierce brewing in his eyes. Duo spared a thought to wonder just what had been in those other rooms.
He took a deep breath, braced himself for the pain, and pushed.
Heero keyed on the autopilot and gently led him back into the main part of the ship. He sat him in a cabin, and then vanished for a few minutes - presumably to get a med kit. Duo started shaking. This was the first time that he had been alone since he had escaped. What if Heero never came back? He was in no condition to fly this ship. He heard Heero's footsteps along the corridor and managed to get himself under control before the other pilot noticed just how shaken up he was.
Heero offered him a vitamin drink with a straw in it.
“Uh… Heero… I can't exactly hold that,” Duo confessed, looking at his mangled hands. They were really starting to hurt now. Heero just nodded seriously and held the drink closer.
“How did you know how to find me?” Duo asked after a few sips.
“Your date called to ask where you were. I figured that something must be wrong if you hadn't shown up. So I did some hacking. And there was a unmarked van. This was seen driving into a private ship, which took off without a proper flight plan submitted.”
“I see. Good work.”
“Thank you. Duo…”
“Yeah?”
“You've been going on about this date all week,” Heero said as he put the drink aside and picked up the antiseptic wipes. He began gently wiping Duo's hands. “You never mentioned that `Jade' was a man.”
“I um… I wasn't sure how you would take it.”
Heero nodded and continued to see to Duo's wounds. It took a while, but eventually the braided pilot was all cleaned up and covered in bandages. Heero sat beside him, kicking the medical kit away with his foot. He turned to Duo and hesitated, then held out his arms for a hug. Duo stared at him for a moment, then collapsed onto his friend's chest to be held gently.
“I think I'm dumped, you know.”
“Don't worry, you can find someone else.”
“I… I'm gonna need more therapy now, aren't I?”
“No… you were nearly done dealing with the shit from the war. The guy can just carry on seeing you for a few more months,” Heero said reassuringly, knowing how much Duo hated seeing the psychiatrist. But it was government ordained that they all saw one if they wanted to be left alone to live their lives.
“Heero...” Duo sniffed. “The fucking war is s'posed to be over!”
“I know,” the cobalt eyed pilot said softly, holding him close. “I know….”

*sighs* I think I'm gonna leave it there. Any more and it's gonna turn into something long that I probably won't finish. See, look, happy ending! I even gave you hints of 1+2, didn't I?
*goes and hides in a corner*
