Reading Between the Lines: Cyren's Song
Chapter 5: Silence and Frustration
By: Kellendraysia
Darkness invaded her sleep with wispy tendrils, mere shadows of some brooding presence. They caused her to shift listlessly in her sleep, but nothing more. When the sun rose the next morning the shadows of her dreams receded. Though she could not see the sun, Cyren woke and sat up stretching stiffly. A wide yawn accompanied her movements to her feet as she clambered her way trough the tunnels that would serve as the throat of her Gundam. If any onlooker could see her through the gundanium alloy skin and the mechanical muscle of the gryphon she would appear to be groggily making her way to the trap door of the cockpit. Apparently groggy, but ever alert, a ruse that she learned well. A ploy that allowed her to pull the wool over Romafeller's eyes so to speak, from time to time. Once within the confines of the cockpit, she was able to access the surrounding hanger for any signs of movement. From what she could tell it was some time after six in the morning, at this point in times she really didn't care. The soft hiss of the door marked her emergence from the beast, echoed quietly throughout the hanger. The hiss was heard by only one other, then her. Closing the cockpit behind her, she lowered herself down to the seemingly empty hanger floor, as she decided since she couldn't leave, she might as well make take a better look around.
The other occupant of the hanger watched Cyren from the shadows trying to decide what to do. The woman was just too unapproachable for his liking. Her commentary from the previous night stung him deeply. Causing an irritating wound far deeper then he imagined it would.
"Maybe he knows me better then I thought or maybe it's that he knows himself all to well," those words echoed over and over again in his mind. Words he'd rather not hear from the mouth of his twin.
He wanted to talk to her; to find out the truth, the truth of what truly happen to her, instead of the lies that he was led to believe. With a slight sigh he shoved himself away from the wall and stepped out of the shadows, as she neared the exit from the hanger, into the main hallway of the complex.
Hearing the sound of footsteps behind her Cyren glanced ever so slightly over her shoulder.
"Resorting to spying on me?" She asked dryly over her shoulder as the door slid open.
"Why would I do that?" Heero replied in just as dry of a tone.
Cyren paused for a moment to look at her brother before continuing on down the hall. The two of them walked side by side speaking not a word to one another. Their resemblance now was much more apparent due to her butchering her braid, which was now a prize coveted by Duo.
She was a lot less likely to enter any of the rooms with Heero walking beside her, though she mentally noted each room as she passed. Places she would return to after her twin was gone.
"What do you want?" Cyren asked, pausing as the pair of them had walked nearly half of the complex in silence.
"To talk," Heero stated blatant honesty, wanting to be up front with his twin.
"No," Cyren responded, turning she started to walk down the hall again. She didn't feel like talking and at this point she had noting to say.
"Cyren," Heero said, hoping that the desperation that he felt deep down didn't effect his voice as he grabbed his sister by the shoulder and spun her around to face him.
Whether or not there the desperation in his voice showed through or not would be left for Heero to decide for the girl gave no sign of emotional change. She said nothing as she shrugged off her twin's hand from her shoulder. She just turned and continued on her way, leaving Heero to stand there; along as his outstretched hand that had once been resting on her shoulder fell limply to his side.
At that point in time Cyren didn't care if Heero followed her or not, her mind was a jumble of thoughts of the past as well as the needs of the present.
I should talk to him, she thought as she slipped into an empty room that was around the corner, locking the door behind her, she leaned against its cool metal surface. But as far as I'm concerned right now it's none of his damned business. She was a bit irritated as she felt like a prisoner of sorts and it was only a little before seven in the morning now. The only decent thing about this situation was that unlike before with her imprisonment she had free movement about the complex. Let's see how long that lasts, she thought bitterly to herself.
Heero stood there a moment longer before he followed Cyren around the corner and found the door to the room she entered was locked when he tried to open it.
"Cyren," Heero called to the young woman inside He hoped that she would answer, it would make things much easier.
"Go away," she retorted, still leaning against the door.
"We need to talk," Heero replied bluntly and to the point.
Cyren sighed, trying to keep her temper under control. She had no urge to speak with her twin right now. She felt trapped and she had just freed herself from Romafeller's clutches.
"What part of go away don't you understand," Cyren retorted in a cold and emotionless tone.
Heero did not reply to that remark right away as he was busying himself with tearing apart the panel that controlled the lock mechanism for the door.
Just as Heero had pulled the plate from the wall, Duo and Quatre turned and started down the hallway talking about some sort of work that needed to be done. Only to stop as they saw Heero pulling wires out of the wall.
"Is everything alright?" Quatre asked, a concerned note slipping into his voice.
Heero paused to look up at Quatre and Duo for a moment then returned to his task with out saying a word. More wires were removed, he then started sifting through the different colors deciding on which to wire together to unlock the door.
"I'd say that he's a little busy Quatre, why don't we just leave him to his hobby," the mouthy boy stated placing a hand on Quatre's shoulder. "Personally I don't want to be here when he fries himself."
Appearing as if Duo is a psychic there is a slight sound of crackling wires and slight smell of ozone as Heero twists two non-compatible cables together and soon his hair is standing more on end then usual.
"Hmmm," is Heero's only reaction as he tries another color set. Obviously his mind is a little more preoccupied then it looks.
"Geeezzzz," Duo yips slightly as he jumps slightly to the side. "I didn't think that it was possible that the great stoic one would actually zap himself a good one. Who knew?" He added with a shrug of his shoulders.
"Heero are you alright?" Quatre asked, now fully concerned for Heero's well being as well as the reason that he was trying to wire the door.
"I'm fine," Heero replied in a dead pan tone, as he looked over his shoulder at the pair, eyes narrowing. "Go away."
"Well, I think that we better get going now Quatre," the braided one replied in a slightly nervous voice grabbing the blond boy by the arm to lead him away. "Catch ya later Heero," he called over his shoulder as he dragged Quatre off.
"Duo what's the matter?" Quatre replied in a startled tone after they were a little farther down the hall.
Duo stopped and let go of the Arabian boy, placing his hands on his hips. "Honestly Quatre do you want to know what is going on? Or to even mess with Heero when he gets into that single minded, everyone must die syndrome, that he was in sitting there in the hall?? I don't, personally I like breathing, ya know I've become kinda attached to it!" He threw his hands up in the air, gesturing erratically, causing his long braid to sway behind him. "If you have a death wish then be my guess. Not this guy, man, no way no how am I gonna stick around when he says to go away, in that god awful creepy, I want to kill you tone."
The blond boy sighed and shook his head, sending short blond locks swaying. "You do have a point, Duo. Maybe it is best to let Heero be for now…" He then turned and started heading off towards the hanger, which was in the opposite direction of the hall in which Heero sat.
"You got it buddy ol' pal," Duo remarked with a slight grin upon his face, sprinting to catch up with Quatre. "Better to stay a live then be dead. Besides…" The mouthy boy kept chattering away as the two of them walked down the hall.
