Heero rolled over, unable to sleep, and looked at his lover. He could see only his back in the pale light, but a small frown came across his lips; he was so confused by the thoughts in his head. He knew it was wrong, but he couldn't help what his brain was thinking.
Heero was jolted out of his thoughts when Duo suddenly flopped over, throwing an arm and leg over him. Duo was a bit of a spaz, even when he was asleep. Heero moved Duo off of him so he could get comfortable; he wanted to sleep on his side so he could watch to see if his daughter got up.
Sure enough, as soon as he looked out the doorway to his room, he saw his daughter standing there in only her t-shirt and "girl boxers", as she liked to call them.
Ashley just stood there, trying to figure out if either of them were awake. She smiled when she saw her daddy, Heero, looking her in the eyes.
Heero's heart melted when she smiled at him. He smiled back; he couldn't help but smile. Waving her over, he wanted to see if it was as he hoped.
She quietly walked over and got on her knees beside the bed so that she was at eye-level with Heero. Heero stroked her hair and smiled again. "Another bad dream?" he asked quietly so he wouldn't wake Duo up.
Ashley nodded; she felt like an idiot. She was 17 and still having nightmares! She just couldn't stay away from the scary movies; then again, she loved to cuddle up with Heero.
Yes, she did loved both of her parents, but found it unsafe to cuddle with Duo. She had only slept between the two of them once, and she quickly learned that was a mistake only because Duo had her pinned under his legs while the rest of him was hanging off the side of the bed, her face all smushed up by a foot, and arms were trapped by the other leg.
Heero had found it amusing and had taken a picture, which made it even worse.
To Ashley, Duo had always been the fun dad who was always hyped up on chocolate and other sweets, hanging off the lighting in the house (not a rare event), and always gave her anything she wanted–because, odds were, he wanted it too. Duo was just a big kid.
Heero...He was totally different. He was quite and calm. He enjoyed chocolates and whatnot, but never had the same side effects as Duo. Ashley was his little princess, but he was very firm with her; he knew when to tell her no, although it never worked. All she had to do was sit on his lap, wrap her arms around his neck, kiss his cheek, and give him those puppy eyes and he was butter. It was just like with the tattoo on her arm; he hated tattoos. He didn't want her to have one. Heero had protested for two days and then, on the second day, he'd driven her to the tattoo shop and paid for her to have it done.
Heero lifted the blanket to let his daughter know she could sleep with him and Duo like he knew she wanted. As the cold air filled his warm blanket, he shivered.
Ashley saw him shiver and quickly climbed into the bed, cuddling up to his chest. He wraped the blanket around the both of them and put his arm around her, kissing her on the head. She kissed his chest in return, and slowly fell asleep in his arms.
Heero wanted her so badly; he loved when she got scared and came to sleep with him–loved to hold her...But it broke his heart he could never have her. He hugged her more tightly, kissed her head again, and fell asleep, still holding his daughter.
