Chapter 1 : The Mysterious Girl
Relena slept peacefully in her room having a good night sleep with no worries plaguing. She slowly opened her eyes in those times in which you looked around and slipped away again when she heard a loud thump outside her balcony. She moved out of her bed in wonder, carefully not to alert anyone that she was actually moving inside.
She crept in the silence that she had seen Heero move toward the closed doors. She looked around for some kind of weapon and quickly grabbed a vase without really thinking.
*You can never be too careful,* she told herself as she began to open the door. She silently and reluctantly began to get her right part of her body out prepared to hit anyone or anything that was on her balcony if it wasn't friendly.
~Meow, meow,~ was all that Relena heard from the outside. The rustling of the leaves was the only possible thing that was moving. The small cat slowly moved toward her making itself known to her. It's black fur made it impossible to distinct itself from the darkness of the night.
Relena fumbled with the inside wall reaching for the switch to give light. She found it after some time of looking and simply touched it. Light indulged the dark balcony making Relena cringe and adjust her eyes to the brilliance.
She felt the light slow the slumber and she was able to see the balcony clearly. She quickly noticed the outline of the body of someone. She looked deeper and found herself seen a girl laying there crumbled while the black cat licked its paws. Without helping herself, Relena gave a shattering scream that would surely gain the attention of everyone.
She stopped, her brain finally telling her to move toward the body to see in what condition it was. She knelt in front of it and felt her wrist for her pulse. In just a second, her door pushed open and Heero stepped in alerted in his usual clothing. His piercing eyes scanned the room and found Relena kneeling in the balcony.
He walked to it like a bullet wanting to see what had possessed her to give out a scream of fright. She looked at him and moved her hands for him to come to her. He followed her and saw the small woman lying on the cold balcony unconscious.
He hovered her and carefully moved her inside. Her body was cold from the night air and there were scratches on her body. Her hair hanged loosely and dirty with leaves in it. It looked as if it hadn't been cared for in a long time.
"Do you know her?" He asked Relena breaking the silence.
"No," she simply answered moving to her side. "I have no idea who she could be."
At that point, Zech and Noin came in through the open door in a hurry with worry in their eyes. They surveyed the room finding Relena safe in the bed leaning about toward another person who they did not recognized. They sent questioning glances at Heero which he didn't respond.
"What happened?" asked Noin going over to them. Zech got the phone and called the family doctor to come.
"Hello, Dr Crowley, it's Milliardo Peacecraft," he greeted. "We need for you to come right away." There was a period of silence and Milliardo hung up with no other words.
"She'll come right away," said Zech with some relieve as he looked at the unconscious girl on his sister's bed. "Who do you suppose she is?"
No one answered the question. Heero and Relena just kept their selves quiet as Noin went into the bathroom to get a cloth. She came back and handed it to Relena who passed it through the face of the girl. The black stains and sweat came out and the face was revealed on all of it's natural shine.
She's a good looking girl, thought Relena to herself. Kind of looks like someone I know. Relena continued to run the cloth through her arms and neck earning a shiver. She passed a long gash on her legs and the girl winced at the contact. Fresh blood had settled there but the gash was still open.
Someone rang the doorbell of the mansion getting the attention of the whole group. Relena knew that it had to be the doctor which lived relatively closed to them. Heero made a move to go to answer it but Relena's voice stopped him.
"Pagan will get it," she continued to pass the cloth through the girls feature and stood there waiting for the two people to come in. Relena was getting a little impatient not knowing what to do in respect to the girl. Steps came closer to the door and a red-haired woman stepped in on simple clothes with her hair still tangled.
"Hello everyone," she greeted smiling to all of them. "What's wrong?"
She noticed a small and very thin girl resting on Relena's bed. She moved toward her taking her small bag with her. Relena moved away of the bed as the doctor did the routine checks.
They all looked carefully as the doctor looked at the gashes on the girls body and examined her blood pressure in all the routine checks. She reached for her bag and took out a small injection and injected it to the girl. She moved them out of the room leaving her alone under the covers.
"Is there something wrong?" asked Zech.
"Not that I can see," answered the doctor. "For what I can tell, she hasn't eaten really good food for a long time. Not a very good nutrition, and I gave a her a shot for tetanus. All those scratches came from trees and branches. Who knows what could have happened to her."
The doctor stopped to catch her breath. "That gash on her leg that I bandaged should be looked after, I would like to know when she wakes up. It's a wonder she didn't brake her neck on that fall. I'll come in tomorrow to examine her throughly."
Heero stayed by the door as Relena and her brother with Noin walked with the doctor to the door. He waited patiently for them to come back.
The front door closed and footsteps came up. Pagan went to the same direction as Noin and Relena continued to her room. Noin and Pagan entered their rooms and closed their doors leaving the two young adults alone in the hallway. Quietly, they both entered the room not letting anyone know of their presence.
"Who is she Heero?" asked Relena expecting him to know. She diverted her eyes to him awaiting an answer.
"I don't know," he answered in his monotone voice.
"So, she's not an assassin or spy in a plan to kill me?" asked Relena sarcastically. Those seemed to be the only people in her life.
"Not that I know of," said Heero glancing back. "Where are you going to sleep tonight?"
"I guess in the adjoining room," She moved to the adjoining door and unclasped the locks. "She'll wake up tomorrow with a killer headache."
"What will we do about her?"
"I don't know," she shocked her head in wonder. "We'll have to see tomorrow."
Relena opened the adjoining door to the next room and Heero silently followed. His room was right across Relena's. Heero checked the door to the balcony of this room as Relena went to the closet to retrieve some new covers for the unused bed. Her head was pounding with all the strain that she had on the whole day and the interrupted sleep.
She settled on the bed quickly and opened the covers yawning with exhaustion, tomorrow was turning out to be an exciting day for them. She waited until Heero closed the doors and shut the light that emitted from the outside. He came in in his usual posture and closed the door passing the lock. He let his gaze wonder throughout the room as a precaution and they settled on the almost asleep Relena.
He walked to the bed and turned off the bedroom lamp leaving the room on utter darkness. He saw a hand sneak it's way up to his own and wrap itself silently on it. He gripped it and Relena sat up giving him a small kiss on his lips.
"Good night," she whispered and let both her head and hand fall to the bed letting herself get wrapped up in slumber.
"Good night," he mumbled back as he reached for the door knob. He glanced back at her sleeping form and went to his room awaiting what would happen tomorrow.
Heero settled down on his bed thinking, with Relena having her meetings on the colonies, it was already going to be a hectic week. Now, with the appearance of that mysterious girl, he wondered what surprises would be waiting for him.
* * *
"No . . ." the blond hair girl mumbled in her sleep. It was just above a whisper with the sound of the night. "Please. . . no, no."
Her body moved with no control around the bed with no way to seize her movement. "Please," a tear silently rolled down her cheek falling on the white pillow. Her movements stopped. The nightmare had been over.
She turned softly on her left side letting her hand move up to her neck were a small cross held it's place on the small chain.
Her breath had become even and tranquil, only sleep was summoning her. The lines on her face relaxed, her lips parting for some of her breaths.
Just as quickly, her hand tightened it's hold around the chain and she mumbled a name.
"Nanashi," another tear came down and her hand finally relaxed falling right over the other pillow. The cat looked up from it's place on the sofa at the sound, it's ears pricked for any other movements. Not sensing any other disturbances, he's head went down to his front feet, curling up to rest from it's journey.
"Nanashi."
