"I love you," Duo said this as he stared into the mirror, glaring at his reflection his normally happy face, downcast and glum.

But Duo was unable to get the grim expression on his face for too long. Sighing heavily and slightly melodramatically, the frown disappeared and was replaced by a sad, wistful look.

Then anger struck. Slamming a fist down, but careful enough so to hit his gaping punching bag so not to destroy anything, he now knew instinctively not to damage anything or suffer accordingly so. There were of course down sides to being as strong as he was.

Three simple words! Three bloody simple words! And Duo couldn't say them. Whenever he tried they stilled on his tongue and he was frozen. Stuck on his memories.

He couldn't say it. Then it all would be true and he couldn't hide from it anymore. He could be blamed and feel the guilt. Duo knew this, putting his face in his hands he groaned heavily.

Everyone he loved died after all. Could he risk it?

Should he risk it? Duo didn't know if he could, they would suffer if he did. But, sometimes, the compulsion to just say it nearly overwhelms his control. Duo didn't know how much longer he could wait. He longed for them and for so long, ever since the war. They had done so much for him. But still he couldn't say it!

Storming over to his bed, Duo flopped himself on the bed. Legs spread wide and arms behind his head Duo stared at the ceiling.

The room was dark. Thick black curtains covered the windows, casting the room in shadows; the room was in varying shades of gray. The room was stifled in silence.

There was quiet for a while as Duo thought about his situation, his now void face emotionless of his real feelings. While inside his mind was crushing him, the love he felt rebelling against the holds. It was too much! Duo loved them so much… he had to tell them.

He had to speak; there was no choice. They had a right to know. It was killing him, making him ache not for them to know about his feelings.

Determined he stood, ready to tell the world if necessary that he lov-

There was a knock at the door.

Duo froze. His courage withering. He opened but all that came out was a dry croak.

"Duo! Get up you lazy bum! It's after noon! You have work to do! Joint venture, that's right a joint venture. Equal sharing of jobs! So get up!" It was Hilde yelling.

Walking over to the door he opened it slowly wary of what dragon he had to face. A glaring Hilde met him. Arms crossed across her chest and eyes wild with emotion. She looked beautiful. And Duo appreciated that. He had to tell her. He had to tell whom he loved.

"I see you are up," she said acidly.

"Yeah. So how are ya, babe?"

Her expression softened and she said affectionately, "Duo, you rascal." With a warm shake of her head and a gentle cuff behind the ear. Then she held up a finger, "But that's not going to make me do all the work. First you have clean the bathroom and the toilet. Second -"

"Wait a minute! Hilde, um, I have to make a phone call. To Heero."

"Heero?" A frown crossed her face, "Very well. But remember your chores." She smirked, "Here's a list!" She handed him a couple sheets of A4 paper and Duo paled.

"Hilde! Hilde! I can't!" Duo shouted.

But she just laughed.

Pouting Duo turned to his office. Opening the door with a swift kick he walked over to the chair and sat down. Dialing Heero's number a resolve took over him. It was time. The time to tell the person he loved.

Later?

AN: Don't you just love suspense? Is it 2xH? Or 2x1? Or even 1x2xH? Who knows! The point of this fic is those questions and I didn't plan who was with Duo. Not the best and the POV shifted quite a lot but it was fun to write. *Laughs*
