Heero had truly been caught. He and Relena were planning their wedding, more like Zechs was planning their wedding, corrected Wufei mentally. And all the excitement created was making him edgy. All of this distracted from the work assigned, and that meant that his and Sally's vacation would have to wait. He needed that stupid vacation, he hadn't been very concerned at first, but all the talk about weddings, romance, and sappy looks had him on edge. It felt like the whole world was against him.

Zechs kept treating Noin as if she were a glass princess. Duo and Hilde could always be found giggling, kissing, or in some other stupid overemotional demonstration. Heero and Relena had eyes only for each other. For some reason he kept finding Relena talking to herself or was it the necklace in her hand? Then he would find Heero sitting alone and smiling to himself. The first time he witnessed this the hairs in the back of his neck had stood up in alarm. Quatre had found some lame excuse to disappear back to his colony and Lady Une just seemed to find the whole situation amusing. Couldn't she see that this all distracted from discipline?

But the worst part had to be, that in order to avoid Heero's and Duo's stupid behavior, he had been forced to openly move in with Sally. They had a relationship for some time, but 'till now they had been very discreet. Now everyone knew, and he could feel the speculations and expectations growing. He was afraid of what this would mean for Sally. Would she expect him to propose now? He wasn't ready for that yet. The memories of the loss of his wife would forever be seared in his mind. He would not take that risk again.

It was unfortunate that Noin chose that moment to try and tease Wufei.

"Hiya, Wufei. How about making this a double wedding?" Noin grinned.

Wufei stared coldly at her, trying to dissuade her from this topic of conversation.

"Oh, come on… think of the money you'd save."

Wufei stared at the monitor and did everything in his power to ignore her.

Noin felt frustrated, at not being able to make him react. It was usually so much fun to tease him. "You know, Wufei… I think it's dishonorable to just live together."

"That does it!!" Wufei was enraged, "Do you dare call in question my honor?"

Noin was shocked, she expected to rile him, but not like this.

"Just because I'm sleeping with her, doesn't mean I have to marry her. She is not some young innocent who needs protection… so stay out of my private life!" Wufei regretted the harsh words immediately, he regretted them even more when he turned around and saw Sally's anguished face. "Sally…"

She turned around and ran out.

Wufei turned towards Noin, and she backed away in fear of Wufei's expression. "Wufei… I'm sorry… I didn't mean to…"

Wufei leaned on the desk and closed his eyes, "It is I who is sorry, please leave me alone." It wasn't her fault, he had dishonored himself because of his foolish pride. Noin walked silently out.

Take the river to the highest mountain
Take the ocean to the farthest sea
I'd take back everything I've said to hurt you
If you'd come back to me

The next day was hell on earth for Wufei. Everyone was giving him some kind of annoying look, from pity to open hostility. He ignored them all, but he couldn't ignore the empty feeling of not having Sally with him. He had looked for her everywhere but hadn't found her. He had arrived at her apartment bearing exotic flowers, perfume, chocolates… everything he thought could help him ease his apology, but she hadn't been there. A quick inspection had revealed that most of her clothes and her suitcases were gone.

Lady Une seemed to be the only one who contained her expression, but she wasn't friendly either. Wufei tried to find comfort in Lady Une's respect for him. He hoped to win her sympathy, surely she knew where Sally had gone. Sally would not leave without informing her whereabouts to her superior officer.

He was spared the groveling. "Wufei, please come to my office, I need to speak with you." The tone wasn't very promising.

Wufei followed Lady Une, like a man walking towards his execution.

They entered Lady Une's office. Wufei closed the door quietly and stood straight in front of Lady Une's desk, behind which she sat.

"Sit down Wufei." It was spoken softly but with command, and Wufei obeyed. "It has come to my attention that Sally and you, have had some kind of squabble between you. I normally do not like to get involved in the personal lives of my officers, but I fear that your performance as an officer is inevitably affected by your personal life, so I see little choice in this instance. Now, would you like to explain what you have done to Miss Po?"

Wufei tried to stop himself from frowning, but this just left a more strained expression on his face. "Lady Une, I loathe to discuss my personal life… so let's try to keep it as simple as possible. I have committed a grievous error and in the process hurt the woman I love. I wish to make amends, but I must know where she is."

I'd bring you fire from the frozen waters
Leave a flower 'neath a fallen tree
I'd take back everything I said to scare you
Away from me

Wufei looked out to the river and remembered the days when he had first met her. He had sailed down this same river, to reach his hidden gundam. Could she be there? He took his camping/hiking equipment and headed in the direction of the caves that had served him in the past.

He had talked to the local people, and they had seen her. This had encouraged him, but he soon found himself going in circles. They had seen her, but they didn't know where she had headed only that she had bought hiking equipment and had left some suitcases in the small hotel. He had wondered if he should wait, but he wasn't a man that could take waiting with ease. He decided that action was his best choice, and bought some hiking equipment himself, hoping to find her.

After a day of struggling through thick jungle, he reached the caves. His heart leapt when he found the remains of a fire, he touched it and it was cold. She might have been there, but she was long gone. Darkness approached and his search would have to wait till morning.

Memories assailed him in his sleep. Sally touching him, caressing his face, pulling his hair loose… Sally loving him.

What kind of fool am I? How could I have feared her love? Her love makes me stronger not weaker… without her… I am weak.

Two hands can feel so much more
That's what I'm loving you for
I was too blind to see fear was inside of me
I'm not afraid anymore

Sally stared down the mountain and watched Wufei as he gathered wood to start a fire. Lady Une had told him where she was… how could she? And what the hell was he doing here? Could it be a coincidence… did he come here just to remember his stupid gundam… or worse… to remember his beloved Nataku? Pain lanced her, and she clutched her chest in pain. No… how could he?

Is it truly over? A little voice mocked her. Could she truly leave him? How could she forgive him? Did he want to be forgiven? She didn't have any answers, just the pain of her loss.

Was it too late? Could their differences be mended? Her doubts and fears assaulted her all night.

It's never too late, it's never too late
To forgive and forget
Tell me that it isn't over, tell me that it isn't over
I'll never hold you again

Sally considered her options in the morning. To move on and forget him or to forgive him and forget the pain he had caused. She couldn't decide which option was more painful. But first she had to ascertain that he was in fact seeking forgiveness, it could be just a cruel coincidence that had brought him here. She decided to allow him to see her… if he was seeking forgiveness he would follow her… if it was only a coincidence he would most probably leave.

She would follow the river upstream, till she reached the birth of the river. The river was born pretty high up the mountain… if he reached her there… It took a lot of persistence to go so far up.

Wufei saw her through his binoculars, she was standing on a hill, about 3 miles away. She seemed to be staring right back at him. He saw her turn around and start walking besides the river.

Sally I'm sorry… please wait for me.

If a broken wing can still be mended
Then a foolish heart can still be true
Take the river to the highest mountain
That's where I'll wait for you

It took Wufei two days to catch up with her. He found her sitting quietly beside a large rock on top of the mountain. He tried to catch his breath and wished he wasn't sweaty, with his hair and clothing all messed up. How could he impress her looking like some kind of madman? But more importantly, now that he had found her, what could he say? For a moment he panicked, what kind of fool am I? he wondered. Finding her was not enough, he had yet to reach her heart.

He divested himself of the equipment, and tried to smooth back his hair and his clothing. He walked towards her hoping for some sign. She hadn't turned to face him, but she knew he was there, he had certainly made enough noise to warn her. He sat beside her and admired the view with her.

"I didn't have the chance to prove that I was a worthy husband. And I have feared that given the chance… I would just prove that I am unworthy. I have certainly proved myself unworthy of your love. I came to beg your forgiveness but I don't expect you to forgive me. I wanted to let you know… that I love you. That you are a strong woman, worthy of a strong man, stronger than me. But the thought of anyone getting close to you… I would probably go insane… at the least I would try to kill him."

They both remained silent, considering the words said.

Wufei knelt in front of her, tentatively straightening an errant curl from her hair. "Sally, would you consider forgiving and loving this unworthy warrior?"

Two hearts can feel so much more
That's what I'm loving you for
The man that you tried to free
Is still locked inside of me
And your heart must open the door

Sally stared intently at his eyes, trying to read his soul. Whatever message she found, she must have found it worthy of forgiveness, for she took the hand that had softly touched her hair and kissed it. Wufei felt himself go weak, a mixture of relief and joy.

"Sally…" He pulled her towards him trying to meld her body with his. She managed to release her hands… roaming his back and his unwound hair. Passion was ignited almost instantly. He crushed her lips with his, she opened her mouth and welcomed his tongue, moaning her approval. The fear and the need combined to make them frantic with desire, each wanting to prove their love in the most basic way.

Wufei leaned back pulling her on top of him, protecting her from the harsh rocky ground. His left hand was tangled in her hair, while his right hand tried to find the openings of her military fatigues. He couldn't find them and in his frustration just started to rip the fabric. Wufei was wearing loose clothing that made it easier for Sally to divest him of it, but the rush made her rip it a little too. The more skin they exposed the more frantic they both became. Wufei kissed her neck while caressing her breasts, Sally pulled up so that her breasts would reach his mouth. He quickly took advantage of the position, licking and sucking her nipples. Sally moaned her approval. His hands slid down, grasping her tights and pulling her against his erection, her slick labia lubricating him.

"Wufei!! I want you inside now!!" Sally ordered him, he stopped for a moment and looked at her, then he smiled softly, "Yes, Mam." He pushed her away and then rammed into her, making her scream in pleasure. He tried to control his own passion wanting to extend it, but they were too frantic to slow down now. Sally moved against him, while he tried to hold her… he finally gave in when he felt the first tremors of her orgasm. They both pushed hard against each other, until they both cried out their ecstasy.

Sally remained limp on top of him, while he caressed her back and her hair. "My beloved Onna, do you know that there are rocks boring holes in my back?"

"Huh?"

He kept caressing her. "Is there anyway I can convince you to get off, of me?"

"I dunno, what are you offering?" Sally grinned to his chest.

"How about, we both sit down, I feed you some chocolate while I brush your hair?"

Sally giggled almost girlishly, "You do know the way to a woman's heart!" She got off and took one of his shirts.

"The only woman's heart I want to know the way to, is yours." He said quietly as he sat beside her, after pulling his pants back on.

"I love you Chang, Wufei."

"And I love you, Sally."

It's never too late, it's never too late
To forgive and forget
Tell me that it isn't over, tell me that it isn't over
I'll never hold you again

The End
