“I shouldn't be surprised. Not after all I've seen in the news. But still, this is truly shocking.” Relena didn't like his tone. It was mocking, somewhat false. She took no notice to the fact that she was almost completely naked, and stood up, as if the added height would project her as more powerful than she felt.
“I'm the one who should be surprised. What right have you coming in here after three years of nothing?” She abandoned her question as soon as her eyes cast upon the lifeless body in his arms. Noin!
Heero eyed the body. He hoped, for Relena's sake, that it would move any second. When it didn't, he knew that the Zechs standing in front of them was a very different man.
“What happened to Noin, Zechs?” Zechs just smirked. He hated that smirk. It was an obvious give away to the nature of the wearer's intentions.
“She…fainted on the way here. The woman hardly eats.” Relena's eye twitched at the word `woman'. She didn't know her brother at all, but she knew enough to know that when you love someone, you don't refer to them in such a way.
Heero kept to himself. `It would hit her too hard' he thought. His job was to protect her, and that meant emotionally as well. `But in the meantime, I have to keep an eye on him'.
Zechs looked down at his former nemesis. A horrid expression formed on his face, showing his lingering contempt for him. “We would like to stay here a while. Would you mind, Relena?”
Relena wasn't stupid. She knew something was wrong. But for now, he was innocent until proven guilty. How, after all, could she refuse an act of hospitality towards her own brother?
“Of course. I'll help Pagan set up one of the guest rooms.” And with that, and no effort to cover herself, she walked past him and out of the door.
The intensity between the two pilots increased from then on.
“What have you done to her, Zechs? Why are you here?”
Zechs scowled and walked over to him. “I have read some interesting things about you and my little sister, Yuy. I had come to find for myself if these are true. As for Noin…she got in the way. But you won't tell Relena that will you? No. You can't hurt her. You see, Yuy, in the war you may have one but before you did you made on fatal mistake. You showed a weakness. You couldn't kill me by your own hands for HER sake and now those words are gong to haunt you.”
Heero smirked. “Love isn't a weakness Zechs. It's a strength.”
“What you have with her is hardly love. It is play. Children experimenting. But it is play with my sister nonetheless, and I think it has to stop. I don't want her with you.”
Herero got up from his place on the floor and looked him in the eye. They were very near equal in height now. Zechs mused to himself how the boy had very much grown into a man.
“And why is that. Zechs.” Heero held his glare.
“Because I want a niece or a nephew. I'm sure she wants to have children someday. But you can't do that can you, Yuy? You have to be human to do such things.”
Heero left his glare and took on a look of pure shock. `How could he….'
“Here's the deal. You be with my sister. Live the lie you have these past few years if you conscience can bear it. But there's only one thing stopping me from telling her like the good brother I should be, Yuy, and that is you keeping me a happy man.”
Heero looked down at his hands. He hated them. He hated who he was. He traced the life line with his fingers. `I have no identity.'
“And what would keeping you happy entail, Zechs?”
Zechs wore again the despised smirk. “Let's just say you androids have certain qualities that are useful to me…”
