Quatre sighed. Li had stared impassively out the jet window the rest of the plane ride to the base, not speaking to him. When they landed she had disappeared in a flurry of doctors, and a few hours later she had emerged. A few doctors had come after her with angry looks on their faces, and approached him. They had stated their case before him, saying that she had refused all but the most minor of treatments. He had looked at her then, but all she had done was shrug. "They wanted to put me in so many bandages I would have been more of a doll then human. I told them I need most of my mobility, so of course I won't do that."
In a downpour of arguments the doctors had said that she NEEDED much more than what she had allowed them to do, that yes they had stitched her up and cleaned and bandaged all her wounds, but some of her injuries needed surgery and she wouldn't allow them to get near her.
Quatre glanced at Li at this, "I'm correct in assuming you're immune to anesthetics, right."
She nodded.
At this the doctors goggled at her wide-eyed. You could tell they were wondering who in the world she was.
"I'm sorry, but if she doesn't want any more treatment then there's nothing I can do. This is one person I don't command." Quatre said holding his hands up. The doctors surrendered their arguments and left, sending Li the reproachful looks of ones who thought they knew what she needed best and she was being foolish. Li had watched them go with a slight malevolent grin, glad she had been victorious.
When all had calmed down Li gave Quatre a meaningful look. "Well. It's time for me to go."
"So soon?"
"Of course, I told you I'd leave after receiving medical treatment."
"Did you even have your leg casted?"
"Heck no. Not the full body thing they wanted to force on me for crying out loud. No, I accepted a small cast, meant to help keep the bones in place but not impede movement too much. Besides, they've already pretty much bandaged my entire body, what more do they want?"
He noticed that despite these words her right arm was fully casted. "Seems they won out on something."
At this Li let a wry grin cross her face, "It's not my dominant hand, so I didn't mind. Besides, they looked so stressed."
He shook his head at his friend. She would never change. "So you won't change your mind about leaving?"
"Quatre, you know me too well to even ask that question. The both of us know that Heero and Lou will be here in under a day, what with your hasty cover up. They're too shrewd to miss something like that. I don't plan on being here when they arrive."
"And what am I to tell them?"
She glanced at him, "Anything you want. I don't care, I won't be here anyway. And no, I am not telling you where I am going."
He nodded. "That's what I thought."

Li sighed as she stepped out of the side alley in Tokyo, Japan. She had known Quatre would try to restrict her in his own small way, and had been on the alert, expecting to be tailed. Sure enough, she'd spotted them soon after exiting the airport in Tokyo. Quatre had paid for a small jet to take her, and they must have been among the plane personnel. Obviously Quatre was worried and felt obligated to keep an eye on her, and she didn't hold it against him.
They had been subtle and professional, but they were no match for her. She had let them keep the illusion that she was oblivious to the fact that she was being followed until she found the game too tiring to keep up. She had momentarily confused them by disappearing form their line of sight, and in their haste to spot her they fell into her trap, secluding themselves in the alley she had disappeared into. After that it had been a small matter of knocking them unconscious and propping them up against the wall. They were loyal members of Quatre's Maganac Corps, and she knew the two men. They would be cross with her when they awoke, but that was to be expected. Until them no harm would befall them, hidden as they were.
She had taken their guns because she had none of her own, and knew she would need to defend herself.
She now slowly paced her way down the street, humming, as her free hand roamed her jacket inside and pockets. Quatre had fitted her with new clothing before she left, for hers were ruined beyond belief and she didn't want to stand out. After a few moments she found what she was looking for. She pried it out and held it out before her eyes for inspection. A high tech tracking device equipped with sound recorders. Nice.
"Quatre, Quatre, you knew this wouldn't work on me. . . "She murmured loud enough for him to hear. She dropped the tracker on the ground and dug it into the concrete with her heel.

By the time the four people were back on the plane Lou was completely calm and immediately working out information packets for the five people who would end up looking for Li.
"Sis?" Duo sat down next to her, as he had finally gotten Ryo to fall asleep for a little bit.
"Hm?"
"You know he is only protecting us, sort of like you were protecting Ryo when you didn't call me and tell me you were leaving."
She chuckled, "That wasn't protection. I was in the process of calling you when she stole my phone and threatened to toss it out into the ocean."
Shrugging, Duo rolled his eyes with a tender smile to his wife. "Well, the general idea was the same."
Lou stopped typing long enough to look up at her brother. "I am not angry. I just want this over. For Ryo and Cody. For you. For me. Most of all for him." She nodded toward Heero, who was sitting by a window with a half smile, a distanced and forlorn look on his face. "He needs her the most, and none of us can fix that even a little."
Duo nodded.
"And after I glare a little and threaten and make sure he is okay, I think I will be too. I know Quatre was just trying to help." Lou turned back to the typing, pushing her tortuse shell rimmed glasses a little further up her nose, "You know I think I love him most of the time."
Finally Duo laughed and moved back over to make Ryo a pillow with his lap, the four parts of a broken group all trying to pull something back together.

Quatre shook his head and sighed as one of his Maganac workers came in to say Li discovered all the defenses Quatre had sent, and stopped them all as well.
"She held on to them longer than I originally thought." He moved his shoulders in a nonchalant motion with a light exhalation of exhausted breath. "Have you heard anything from any of the others? Coming here, where I am supposed to be maybe?"
"No Master Quatre. There has been no communication thus far, not even from Mistress Leigh Lou."
Nodding his pale head, his light hair bobbed. Lou and Heero were going to be very angry if they weren't already, he knew they both knew he had lied.
"Will you connect all calls from them directly to my office, and hold all others please? It is of dire importance that they can get through at anytime."
"Yes Master Quatre." The Maganac left the weary man alone with his thoughts.
"Li, you are going to break us all."

Ryo sighed as she entered the safe house. "The least they could do is make this look like someone would want to live here. I swear they have never redecorated..."
She was right. The same carpet had been in the house for 10 years, as had the furniture and everything else in it.
"Ryo, it's only temporary..." Duo said.
"Well, we need a baby room. I'm going to ask Lady if we can do some redecorating. I'm not going to sit here and twiddle my thumbs. I need a project."
Duo smiled. His Ryo was coming back, even if it was slowly.

-Meanwhile-
Lou handed packets around, "Once Wufei gets back we will need to fill him in. He has the lovely task of herding Cody to the safe house, and of course, we are going to meet Quatre." Basically it was Lou, Heero, and Trowa.
Trowa sighed lightly; he didn't want to do this again. Nobody did really, but it was unavoidable. Li could not give it up. He didn't blame her in the least; it was her life, just as the circus was his.
"Lou, you left out assignments." Heero's eyebrow twitched as he looked over the packet.
"No, I didn't." She swiveled and tossed him another, thicker packet. "We don't have set assignments this time. We can't. We honestly don’t know what we are against, so he is a supply of everyone’s old and updated statistics and bios. We are winging this one 'Ro." She glanced at the door as Wufei entered, a new black eye shining. "Great to see you Chang, we were just going over departure times."
Wufei nodded as his phone trilled, "Cody was upset."
"Cody, you know you didn't need to hit him. This is for our protection. Besides, look on the bright side, now you don't have to go to school! You can't leave!" Ryo smiled.
Cody grumbled and flipped her cousin off before disappearing into her age old bedroom.
Lou nodded, then continued, "We are going to the Arabian base to meet up with Quatre. From there we are going to interrogate him until we have what we need to advance on it? Alright?"
Heero smiled, "You haven't done this in so long."
Trowa snickered darkly, "None of us have."
Wufei rubbed his eye, "Bets on how soon Winner will break?"
"Master Quatre, Mistress Leigh Lou and Master Trowa are on the video phone."
Quatre nodded, "Thank you Amin, I will take the call privately."
He clicked on the phone as the servant bowed gracefully and hurried off.
"Trowa, Lou." Quatre smiled a tired smile.
Lou's eyes danced over his face, "I am sure you know this, but some of us are coming down. Ryo and Duo are secure with Cody."
"All business?" Quatre murmured the words lightly.
"Yes." Her answer was clipped.
Trowa tilted his head back, so the bang wouldn't shadow his face. "Yuy, Wufei, Lou, and I are all coming. Expect us in approximately three hours."
Quatre nodded again, numb in the cold vibes feeding from his friends. "Yes."There was a lull.
"Ryo is healing. Don't mess this one up baby." Lou raised an eyebrow and closed the connection.

"Duo," Ryo yawned, "Tell me when some of the baby stuff gets here. I'm going to go take a nap." She kissed his cheek and headed off to their room.
Duo nodded and then pulled out his laptop. He was going to keep in touch with the group every step of the way. He was also hacking Quatre's databases, trying to find something proving Li had been with him. The conversation he had earlier with him seemed a bit odd, like he had been hiding something very important.

Quatre sighed and called for some Advil and strong tea, laced with something stronger.
"Amin, do you have to deal with women?"
Amin laughed, "Mistress Leigh Lou causing problems?"
"No this time, it was me."

Lou sat stiffly on the transport between Heero and Trowa. She tapped her fingers on the plastic covering of her laptop. Repeatedly.
Her cell phone rang in her pocket and she reached into it, glancing between the guys sitting to her left and her right. Each of them shared a similar expression, Trowa's expressionless and Heero's hard and cold without any residue of something left... but she knew he was bitter about this.
Absent-mindedly, Lou answered her cell-phone without checking the caller ID, "Lou here."
"Nice to hear your...voice," Came a sarcastic mumble as she recognized one of her friends and sighed softly, "Cody- what is it?"
"Are you doing alright Lou?" The teenager replied in a quiet tone, her anger suppressed beneath her own care but there was something different.
"I'm fine..." The Israeli murmured into the phone, running her nail along the engravement on the top of the labtop, "How are you holding out?"
"It doesn't matter. What are the leads, nobody can tell me anything new or well...are too afraid of pissing me off even more."
Lou could only chuckle at this and both of the men beside her gazed over, Heero's minor glare showing his irritation, a numb curiosity in Trowa's green eyes.
"Quatre lied. To all of us. And we are going to figure it out, strength in oppressing numbers, ya?"
Cody chuckled, "I see."
Lou leaned forward. "He had Li. I know it. He lied for her and never blinked and eye, and this is probably not the first time. It is making me so angry right now. All the happiness we all had. Gone. The light that Heero had, it's gone Cod'." She reached out to pat the man in question's hand.
"I know Lou, we all feel it. This is hard on all of us."
"He lied Cody. I knew he did in war for survival. but this...he knows what it is doing to everyone, especially you and Ryo, and that poor baby." Lou shook some stray tears away, she was not going to cry crocodile tears. "This is all so pointless. And selfish."
"You are telling me this?" Cody returned in a softer voice, her own final numbness beginning to show through and she stared out, her boyfriend's sleeping imprint now empty on the bed after working the night through and having exhausted himself. But he had left not too long ago...
There was a breeze that blew through by the artificial weather generator and it cooled her face, but she didn't feel it. She barely held the phone to her ear, "I wish I could change all this but we can't. The best thing is...for Ryo to be home...and well for the rest of us to stick together. Li is selfish for going out on her own because if we all separate, we will be pecked off one by one and I refuse to die that way."
Leaning forward, she rested her forehead in her hand, her voice breaking, "Why in all hell would she ever be so ignorant to not think about what would affect us in the long run..."
Lou shook her head, "The only logical and damned noble reason would be to keep you two safe."
"Whatever," Cody replied and mumbled a good-bye before hanging up, 'Noble my . Effing idiot...we're Kamiya's. We stick through things together.'
Lou shut the phone and still squeezed Heero's hand gently as the transport continued on. His dark Prussian eyes were the darkest they had ever been, the concrete wall was completely back in place. It made the tears that had been leaking across her eyes harder to conceal but she stared ahead, swallowing the lump in her throat away.
"We're nearing the port..." Trowa said after a minute and climbed up towards the pilot’s cabin, nodding her head in return with a defiant glance.

Not long after docking Lou was leaning over the driving Wufei to punch in the secret codes to Winner Estates.
"Hmm..65281..33248QRWW86442Poo." She smiled and sat back after a long minutes deliberation.
Heero sat stiffly as they pulled up, Quatre on the porch waiting, the tired weariness showing in his winkled shirt and slouched stance.
The wall around Lou's heart cracked some until she looked around. "No." She muttered as the four climbed out.
Quatre smiled, "Welcome guys, I hope you had a safe trip." His hospitality never died.
Heero simply gave him a look and walked right by, Wufei not far behind. Lou studied her boyfriend and once upon a time fiancée. Then she slowly shook her head and grabbed a bag, walking straight past him without another thought except to follow the other two into the living room.
Trowa paused long enough to give his closest friend's shoulder a squeeze. "You know what you did."
"Yes. I protected someone."
"Lose-lose situation then. For now." Trowa and Quatre walked back into the house, Quatre with a trembling inner air, knowing what would come.

She needed weapons and supplies. That was her number one priority at the moment. There she encountered a slight difficulty, for she was unable to use any of her contacts because she didn't know how many of them were controlled or bugged by the same people who were trying to kill her. Damn.
She mused over this predicament for a little while before a thought hit her. Of course! Just because she couldn't access her supplies doesn't mean she couldn't someone else's! And she knew the perfect person. He wouldn't mind. Besides, he had access to plenty while he was out on his little rescue mission, and if he missed a few guns, well, she'd replace them later. She needed them now.
Li grinned. Sometimes it was useful having an ex whose interests were parallel to yours.
An hour later she was on her way to her old colony, a wave of memories washing through her mind.
