At headquarters Wufei and Malcom successfully avoided contact with either Une or Agent Jones. Between the two of them they managed to make a decent dent in the cases that had piled up. All were complete yet had not been typed up yet. Luckily for Malcom, everything was already written down on multiple sheets of paper, so all he had to do was cut and paste it into the regulation forms. By the time lunch came around, only four cases remained in Wufei's in box. Wufei stretched his arms above his head and grinned at the growl's coming from his partner's stomach. “Come on, there's a nice little eatery down the road I think you might like. My treat.”

Malcom frowned, “You don't need to pay for me.”

“Sure I do,” he grinned, pushing away from his desk, “what kind of boyfriend would I be if I let you pay for it?”

“Boyfriend?” Wufei and Malcom jerked around at the shocked voice coming from the door. Duo stood slightly in front of Heero with his mouth to the floor. The two shared a worried glance before Wufei sucked it up.

“We were planning on having lunch at that eatery down the street, wanna join us?” Wufei reached over and tugged Malcom closer to his side. Duo grinned, bouncing into the room and gave them both a hug.

“Oh man that's so cool! Congratulations man.” Heero grabbed Duo's swinging braid and pulled the excited man back to his side before he squeezed the life out of the red-faced agents.

“Congratulations Wufei, Stone. I was unaware you two knew each other before yesterday.” Although he didn't ask, everyone there knew there was a question behind it. Wufei turned begging eyes over to Malcom. He knew it would be easier if they had friends that would be able to collaborate their stories if the need arose. And both Heero and Duo would be willing to do it. He was almost positive. Malcom sighed but nodded and the two made their way out the door.

“We'll tell you all about it over lunch okay Duo?” Wufei pushed them all into the elevator before another word was spoken. Lunch passed surprisingly peacefully. Wufei had been right. Heero and Duo were willing to help them, especially when they learned that the jackass had managed to track Malcom down and was stalking him at the base. Poor Duo nearly had tears in his eyes at the story while Heero just sat there unchanged. Although both Wufei and Duo could detect his clenched jaw. Which lead Wufei to say, “We can't hurt him Heero.”

“Hadn't planned on it yet.” Heero said looking out the window, lying his ass off. Duo grinned and nudged Heero, stealing a fry when he turned away. Duo laughed as Heero snatched his plate away glaring at him. He went pack to his own plate and ordered another soda when the waiter walked over. Once he left, Duo drank half of it in one gulp, “what are you going to do about Trowa and Quatre?”

Malcom shot a sideways glance Wufei's way at the question, still wandering himself. He watched sadly as the once open face hardened up and Wufei put his tea down. “Nothing, they are not here, we don't need their help. Besides perhaps if they see me dating someone they can get off my case. Perhaps its even time for me to move out. Friends don't treat each other the way they did yesterday. If they have a problem with me or the people I associate with, they need to talk to me not leap across a briefing table in anger.”

Duo nodded, turning to stick his tongue out at Heero. “Told you so.” He ignored At Wufei's questioning look he popped out, “Heero thought you had the hots for Trowa and Quatre.”

Later after all the tea was cleaned up and Duo returned from the bathroom to wash the worst of it off, Wufei finally settled down and stopped chocking. “What!” he squeaked out, waving off Malcom's thumps to his back.

“Your attraction to Barton and Winner is obvious. I am surprised that you would be so willing to give it up.” Heero said signaling for the check.

“After the way they acted, I would have broken up with them had we been together.” Wufei finally straightened up, the color returning to his face. “Besides if they are indeed my friends they are just going to have to get use to me dating. If they truly had wanted me as you say they do, they would have made a move before now.”

Duo nodded, “Yes, it wouldn't make much since to hide your feelings for so long. The worst you would have said is no.” He never noticed Heero's scared expression.

Heero moved to get up signaling the others it was time to go. “Sometimes Duo, the potential hope one has is better than an almost certain heart break if the truth ever came out.” He walked out the door before Duo could form an answer.

“Well hell, todays the day for secrets isn't it?” He followed the others out, “who do ya think Hee-chan was talking about?” Wufei and Malcom just sighed.

They worked uninterrupted for the rest of the work day, finishing all the files that were left as well as the few that somehow seemed to sneak their way into the office without anyone seeing it. Wufei was glad someone else besides the two of them knew the situation. He was never very good at acting, he hoped he would be able to pull this off without hurting anyone or screwing up. His thoughts slide to his room mates. Lord how he wanted Heero's words to be true. His eyes hardened, didn't matter anyhow. He wanted a mate and he wasn't going to wait around for those two idiots to finally see him.

“Come on Malcom, let's go home. I think I've had enough of today.” Laughing Malcom grabbed his jacket and opened the door. And ran straight into Agent Kyle Jones. Malcom froze. Wufei stepped forward and snatched Malcom to his side, tucking his body around the immobile form. Kyle shot him a glare before focusing back his ex-lover.

“I have been looking all over for you Malcom,” Kyle said disapprovingly, “didn't you get the message from your Commander?”

“Oh no I got it,” Malcom replied, shaking himself and moving even closer to Wufei's warm body noticing Kyle's eyes narrowing. “But I forgot, I've been,” he glanced at Wufei under his lashes, “busy.”

Wufei braced himself as Kyle's fists clenched. He started as he thought he saw pain flash in Agent Jones' eyes. No, he must have been mistaken. He was sure after the assholes next words.

“Well didn't take you long to find someone else to warm your bed did it?” Kyle never saw Wufei move, but found himself on the ground moments later with a busted lip and swollen face.

“Get your ass away from us before I call security.” Wufei glared, taking Malcom's surprised hand and yanking him to the elevators and shoving him inside. The last sight they had of the man was him holding his face in shaking hands.

As the doors closed Malcom jumped at the crash echoing down the halls. “Hey its okay,” Wufei hugged the shaking figure to his side, “he can't touch you here. We won't allow it.”

Malcom swallowed and squeezed his shoulders. “Yes I know your right. I just wish I knew what he was doing here.”

Kyle Jones glared at the broken window that had once been Wufei's office door window picturing instead Wufei's broken face. “Dammit Malcom, let me explain.” He about faced and stormed off, fellow Agents scattering out of his way. “I'm not giving up Malcom.”

Wufei and Malcom stopped off at the barrack manager's office and dropped Malcom's keys off and signed away his room. Tomorrow they planned on spending all day looking for a place for him to live and until then he was staying with Wufei. They waved good bye to Heero and Duo as they walked past. Minutes later as they approached the parking garage, a tall blonde figure stepped out of the shadows.

“Malcom we need to talk.” Kyle braced himself as Wufei stepped in between the two again.

“Whatever we had to say to each other we said back in San Francisco.” Malcom stated, slipping his arms around Wufei's waist and spreading his hands to cover his stomach. Wufei reached up to hold them in place. Once again something flickered behind Malcom's eyes, but it was to quick for Wufei to catch.

“Its not what you think, I had to do what I did.”

“Yes,” Malcom replied, the pain thick in his voice, “I know you saw it that way.”

“Dammit Malcom that's not what I meant! Now come along we need to talk!” Kyle moved forward a little but stopped when Wufei moved out of Malcom's embraced and stood firmly in a fighting stance.

“Sorry Kyle but we have nothing to talk about. Now please stop bothering me and go away.” Kyle's eyes flashed again but this time Wufei caught it. Pain. A whole hell of a lot of it. This was hurting Kyle Jones.

“He asked you to leave him alone.” A voice came from behind Kyle. “No means no.” Kyle turned to find himself facing down the barrel of Duo's gun.

“Hello Duo, Heero.” Wufei said watching Kyle back up from the two.

“Hey Wufei, that your handywork?” Duo asked, gesturing to Kyle's bloodied face.

“Ya, he wouldn't take no for an answer.”

“Malcom please.” Kyle begged as he was herded further away.

“Leave him alone man.” Duo said, holstering his gun and crossing his arms, “He's got someone else. Get over it.”

“Maxwell,” Wufei groaned, rubbing his hand over his face. Kyle looked shocked, then glared at Wufei.

“Him? You left me for him!?”

Wufei rapped his arm back around Malcom's shoulders and herded him towards his car. “I didn't leave you Kyle for someone else. Just did what you told me to do.”

“Damn it I never told you to go shack up with fuck!” Kyle felt himself launched across the ground before the words completely left his mouth. Duo grabbed Heero before he could follow.

“You idiot leave before one of us kills you. Your not wanted here.”

“You weren't suppose to dammit.” Malcom whispered, wiping his blood off. Malcom and Wufei walked away followed by the other two. Kyle stayed on the ground until the headlights disappeared in the distance. “You weren't suppose to.”
