Chapter 6

Buying a House

They had an early morning meeting with Commander Une to get Kyle a position at their branch. During which Commander Une, who needless to say was completely pissed off with the information she saw in Kyle's documents, gave him a spot in Narcotics and with Wufei's impute, made Kyle and Malcom partners again. He himself ended up commanding the unit to his surprise. She launched an Internal Affairs cleanup campaign. Her connections out west were giving the top brass hell. News reporters were having a field day by the time she got off the phone. Afterwards the five friends went apartment hunting. After Kyle found out Heero and Duo knew the truth, that is. He really didn't want to fight. One look at Heero had him even questioning the possibility that he would have won anyhow. Throughout the day one could see Heero trying to get details about the weapons used during the mission and Duo trying to get Heero's attention back on him. Basically everything was normal for them. They used Heero's truck as it was able to sit all five of them. Duo, Malcom and Kyle poured over the apartment listings while Wufei drove them around. After the first apartment Heero sat himself in the front and left the three bickering individuals to fend for themselves in the back.

“We don't need a back yard,” Kyle said crossing off that option. Duo snatched the paper back and erased the mark.

“How can you not want a back yard?” He sounded completely aghast.

“Ya,” Malcom said grinning, “think of all the things we could do with a backyard.”

Kyle blushed, “that's not legal.” Malcom and Duo cracked up sending Kyle's blush into a deeper red.

“Get your mind out of the gutter man, what were you thinking of?” Duo asked clutching his sides.

“Never mind,” he muttered burying his face in the apartment guide.

Wufei snickered before pulling over at a Jamaican restaurant. “Hey guys lets stop for lunch.” Kyle jumped out of the tuck before it came to a stop and ran into the restaurant yelling that he would get them a table. The others shared bemused grin. Throughout the day, Kyle and Malcom had opened up; let the others see them the way they had been before the shit hit the fan. What was scaring Wufei though was the more and more Malcom opened up the more the others could see an exact twin to Duo's personality. Hell must of froze over.

“Wufei are you ready for Trowa and Quatre to return tomorrow?” Duo asked reaching for his soda.

Wufei was yanked away from his thoughts. He shrugged, “Ready as I'll ever be. Just have to sit them down and have a talk. Figure out what the hell was up with last week.”

Malcom snorted drawing Kyle's confused look. “I'm confused, who are Trowa and Quatre?”

Malcom jumped in before the others could open their mouths. “They are two Preventer agents and Wufei's roommates. They tried to attack us when I was introduced as his new partner. The shit that spilled out of their mouths would put a sailor to shame.”

“What?!” Kyle looked over, “why the hell do you put up with that Wufei?” He had grown quite attached to the man that helped get him back together with his lover. “Why would they do such a thing?”

Wufei shrugged, “I don't know. I have noticed them acting differently but I didn't think it was because they were starting to get annoyed with me. I don't know. Their confusing the hell out of me.”

“If you wanna move out Wufei, you can come live with us.” Malcom said. Kyle nodded, determination etched on his face. Wufei blushed and ducked his head.

“Hey man you know the same goes for us as well.” Duo was quick to jump in. He wanted so badly to smash their faces in for hurting his friend.

“I doubt it will come to that but thanks for being such great friends.”

“Well in any case just remember friends don't treat each other like that.” The others nodded their heads along with Malcom as he shoved his food around on the table. Time for a change in conversation Wufei thought as he dug the Apartment Guide out of his pocket and placed it on the table.

“So far neither of you can agree on an apartment as it is.” He watched with a smirk as the two shifted in their seats. “So perhaps you shouldn't even be looking at apartments.”

“Now Wufei,” Kyle said pointing his finger at him, “we have to live somewhere. We can't just stay at the barracks.”'

“Exactly,” he responded, pulling out another brochure, “how about a house instead.” The rest of the lunch was spent poking and arguing over the brochure while Wufei sat smugly back and finished his lunch. On their way out the door with a tentative list of houses they ran into Dorothy.

“Hey Doro, what's up?” Duo leaped forward pulling the woman into his arms.

“Grabbing my order Duo. Who are they?” She asked grinning at Heero's expression.

“Sorry, this is Agent Malcom Stone and Agent Kyle Jones. They just transferred here from the West.” Wufei said, restraining Heero. That's all he needed, a cat fight.

“Pleasure to meet you.” She shook their hands and noticed the brochure in Malcom's hands. “Are you looking for houses?”

“Yes,” Kyle looped his arm around Malcom's waist.

“You know it just so happens that I have a house that I have been trying to sell for a while now if you would like to take a look.” She didn't wait for an answer but instead went to the front desk and paid for her food. Walking back out the door she called back, “okay lets go. You can follow me.”

Wufei shrugged and led the way out. “At the very least you might get a good price.” Roughly 15 minutes later, the five stood in the front parlor gazing around them. This was a mansion, it had everything. Four bedrooms, four and a half baths, formal living room, dining room, den , study, large kitchen. The master bedroom was huge with a Jacuzzi in the bathroom. While Kyle and Malcom explored the second floor, Heero and Duo checked out the first and Wufei headed outside to the backyard. As he stepped out onto the back porch he smiled. The porch was a wrap around and extended into the back yard about 20 feet. The house was sitting on about 30 acres of lush grass and in the distance, he could see an orchard in the distance and off to the left he could see a glimpse of a private lake through the trees.

As the others joined him, he spoke up, “You don't want this house.”

“What?” Malcom looked around him in disbelief, “why not, its perfect?”

“Because I want it.” He turned grinning. As Malcom and Kyle tackled him, Duo scampered off to see the pond.

“Hey guys this is huge!” He called back as he walked the pier.

*RING*

Wufei jumped startled as his cell phone rang.

“Chang.”

“Agent Chang, is perhaps Agents Stone and Jones with you?”

“Yes Commander they are.”

“Good then please inform them that they will both be receiving a large settlement from the courts regarding the issues in California.”

He smiled. “That was fast. But it is great news since their looking at a house I doubt they would be able to afford otherwise.”

“Well they can afford this building now if they wanted it.” Wufei's eyes bulged at the amount Une gave him. Stunned Wufei went to join his friends as they conversed with Dorothy.

“This property is going for $324,000.”

“Damn,” Malcom slumped back against his lover, “we can't afford this.”

“Actually you can.” Wufei said grinning.

“What are you talking about Wufei, you know very well how much we make at work.”

“Yes I do I also know that you have money coming to you from a settlement that indicted your old boss.”

“Really,” Kyle looked gleeful at the thought of sticking it to his boss, “how much?”

“About $5 million dollars after taxes.” He said calmly. The others grinned at the shocked faces of the two.

“$5 million dollars!” Malcom and Kyle gawked at each other.

“Each.” Wufei added moving over to Dorothy who just got off her phone.

*THUMP*

Kyle caught Malcom as he collapsed bringing them both to the ground. Heero and Duo roared with laughter. Dorothy took that moment to speak up.

“Like I said, this property is going for that much however I wasn't going to sell it for that. I have too much property as it is.” Malcom and Kyle glanced up, confused. “You can have it for a dollar, I just want to rub my cousin's face in it. You would actually be doing me a favor.”

*THUMP*

Both agents hit the ground. Duo walked over laughing, “Man they fainted!”

Wufei leaned over and gave Dorothy a hug, “you're a good woman Dorothy.”

“Now now, there's no need to be rude.”

*

Across town Trowa and Quatre dumped their bags down in their room. “Well lover that was a complete waste of time.” Quatre dug through the cabinet in the kitchen looking for his special blend of tea.

“Yes and I am sure Commander Une is now aware of it as well.” Trowa pointed out quietly.

Quatre grinned, “Don't yell at me. She wanted to know what we thought of it. Besides its not our fault that it blew up. At least we're home a day ahead of schedule.”

Indeed Commander Une had been bemused at the end results and cancelled all other teams sent to go that month. With a happy grunt, Quatre pulled out Wufei's green tea container. Moments later they sat happily sipping their tea.

“I wonder where Wufei is?” Quatre sat eyeing the phone.

“Do you think he's had time to forgive us yet?”

“I hope so.” Trowa went over to the sink and rinsed his cup out. “We'll sit him down tonight and tell him everything. Don't want him getting the wrong idea.”

“Yes.” Quatre agreed, joining Trowa at the sink. “Its time to include Wufei completely into our lives.” He gave an uncertain smile, “I just hope he doesn't have a heart attack at the thought of a permanent threesome.”
