"No! There's no way I'm going to wear *that*!"
Duo sighed out loudly. He had convinced Heero to go with him to a costume party five days ago and five minutes ago he had shown him his costume. While the Japanese boy had locked himself in the bathroom Duo braided his hair for the first time in two weeks. He had let his long chestnut locks hang down at his back so that it made him look more like a girl. Yes, like a girl.
On his current mission for the preventers he acted as the niece of a powerful senator that seemed to be ready to start a new war at any time. The first week on his mission he was on his own and found out where the secret weapons were hidden. Then he felt his mission endangered by the advances of his male class-mates so he asked Noin to send him one of his friends as a back-up who would act as his boyfriend. But when Heero arrived on Monday he didn't know about that fact. He just thought he had to convince the senator to become a member of the peaceful alliance that was lead by Sanc.
But he quickly agreed, for the `mission's sake´, as he had put it.
And it had actually helped. Most of the boys that were trying to ask Diana de l'Amour, Duo's fake identity, out for a date were scared off by Heero's behavior towards Jean, the biggest moron of them all. On his first day at school he had easily lifted the taller and stronger-looking boy off the ground with one hand. Later that day Duo had shown that Diana wasn't the weak woman he appeared to be and knocked that bastard out with one swing. This got the three of them into detention but at least he was left alone and after that he could talk to Heero whenever he wanted. That they were suspected to be kissing instead of talking was something they couldn't get out of their classmates heads. Instead it helped their cover being a couple to remain proved.
In their lunch-breaks they went outside to talk about their mission for they knew they were alone as all the posh people at this recommended school were allergic to pollen that were now flying in the air for it was spring. Sometimes they just sat there looking at all the beautiful flowers that had started to bloom some time ago. Duo found out that Heero loved flowers. He never thought that the Perfect Solider might have the guts to be romantic but from time to time even the God of Death could be surprised.
Now it was Saturday and they were having a quarrel about what to wear.
A friend of Duo's, Olivia, had invited the two to a costume party for her seventeenth birthday.
Duo smirked and shouted, "Please, Yuichi! Do it for me, your girlfriend!"
His `uncle´ was not so pleased to hear that Diana had invited her *boyfriend* to stay with them. He had the natural fear of a father that his daughter might be abused or could do something that would make her grow up, for example having a sexual relationship with a boy or a man. Though she wasn't his real daughter. He wasn't even related to the person he called his niece.
"I *won't* wear this crap!"
Duo sighed again.
"I have no other costume for you."
"If you'd told me earlier what you had in mind as the `perfect costume´ I would have told you I'm not going to wear this."
"That was why I didn't tell ya," Duo muttered to himself. Louder he answered, "Stop quarreling! You agreed to go to this party and that's what we're doing and we need costumes for that. That was easiest way to get suitable clothes."
A low growl was heard from the bathroom.

The large limousine drove into the large alley leading towards Olivia's house. Duo tried hard to keep his eyes from his friend and concentrated on the outside. His trained habits predominated and tried to memorize the way to recall it when needed in case of emergency. Still sometimes his eyes betrayed his will and returned to look at Heero. But then his mind took over again and he stared at the high trees that made up the alley.
Finally the car stopped in front of the stately home of Diana's friend. It really could rival with his uncle's in having the most beautiful appearance. But all his friends lived in similar buildings like this for all their parents were extremely rich. Duo thought that he would have liked to grow up without knowing what poverty was.
But on the other hand he was glad to have lived his life the way he did. He knew he couldn't turn back time and even if he could, he was sure he'd be dead by now, killed during an assault of OZ on L2. He was quite sure that war wouldn't have ended the way it did if he and the other Gundam pilots had not interfered. They were children then, yes, but they were fighting because they didn't know what else to do. Every one of them had helped to stop the battles. And they found friends in each other.
Well, some of them even more than that.
He presumed that Trowa and Quatre were more than friends. He wasn't sure where this feeling came from but how they cared for each other and looked at each other sometimes made him shiver. If it was because of disgust, fear or jealousy he couldn't say. He was only happy that they had found each other.
He shook his head to put these thoughts aside and watched Heero climbing out of the car. Seconds later he followed him up the stairs that led to the entrance. There Heero waited for him to knock because it was *his* friend.
The Japanese had found out that Duo had managed to make friends with a whole lot of people. Every morning it took them almost half an hour to do the usual greeting-and-exchanging-the-latest-gossip-procedure. All the time he had to stay close to his friend to remind their schoolmates that they were a couple.
By the third day he would have been fed up with this if he wasn't admiring how happy Duo seemed to be. It was as if this life had been meant for him, surrounded by friends, laughing and cheering. The hidden warrior that called himself the God of Death appeared to be something very unreal.
But today some of the real Duo Maxwell had made his way into his unusually quite and self-contained appearance. He had been smirking all day, especially when he told Heero about their costumes.
At first Heero protested with all his might. But then logic told him that Duo was right about not buying any extraordinary costumes. They would draw to much attention. So with clenched teeth he had agreed to wear what he was wearing now.
He shot another glare at Duo who was knocking on the door.
A brown-haired girl clad with a black mask, a short fringed black skirt and something that looked like a black bikini-top opened the door and looked suspiciously at the two people outside. Somehow the girl and the boy looked familiar but she couldn't remember inviting a girl with short dark-brown hair and a boy with long chestnut bangs. And they weren't wearing any costumes.
"Who are you?"
"But Olivia," the boy said with a girl's voice, "don't you recognize your friend Diana?"
Duo saw the girl blink several times as if her brain was trying to figure out what kind of trick this was. Then she looked closer at Duo, glanced at Heero and stared again into dark blue eyes.
"Diana? Is that you?" she managed to ask as her eyes became wide in realization. Duo nodded and grinned as the girl took a step closer to Heero who was staring at his feet. "And that's...?"
"Yep, that's Yuichi!"
"No, it can't be him! That's a girl!"
Heero chose to glare at her and growled, "I am *not* a girl."
Olivia gasped. "You're really Hino!"
Then she smiled at Duo.
"Guys, I guess you'll win the first prize for the best costume. Come in, the others won't believe unless they see it themselves."
She led them inside and Heero could *sense* the objectionable looks of the boys that were staring at his ass under the school uniform's skirt. He felt pity for Duo who had to endure this every day.
Their costumes were simple but effective. Duo had convinced Heero to exchange their school uniforms for this evening. He had said he wanted to be reminded that he was still a boy with all the girly manners he developed during the last two weeks. Heero had agreed after a long discussion to do this as a favor for Duo. Now the braided baka owed him. He even brushed his hair so it didn't look as messy as it normally did. But when Duo tried to put a pink ribbon into his hair he stopped him forcibly. They were lying on the floor when Diana's nanny came into the room to find Heero sitting on top of Duo.
He had to cover his ears from her screams.
Then they had to listen to a lecture about moral by the senator and as some sort of compromise he let Duo stuff some of his hair behind his ear with a pink-hair clip. {1}
Olivia introduced them to the people they didn't know from school. Some of them stared openly at Duo and Heero, not believing their eyes. That smirking person should be in fact a girl? And the lovely creature next to her a boy? They definitely looked better the other way round!
[I just hope they don't mistake me as a girl...]
Heero suddenly felt something strange on his back. Somebody was squeezing his bum!!!
He turned around, reaching for his non-existent gun and was facing Jean who was wearing a Superman-costume.
"So we have another beauty in town. Would you like to be my Lois?"
"You..." he growled and was about to hit him when somebody caught his wrist.
He turned his head to see Duo glaring at the very annoying but very strong blonde boy. "Do you like being hit or what is wrong with you? Can't you differ between a boy and a girl?"
Jean stared at them both in confusion. He raised an eyebrow as he was surveying Heero from head to toe.
"Hino?"
Heero just growled in reply.
Jean's eyes grew bigger and bigger as his mind realized what he was looking at. Then he burst out laughing.
"It wasn't my idea," Heero muttered through clenched teeth.
"You can lift me off the ground as often as you like to, but one thing's for sure: You *are* weak!" Jean calmed down for a second to look Heero in the eyes. "Letting yourself convince to wear a dress... You must be either weak or gay to do this."
He turned around to his friends. "Hey guys! Look at our new fruit cake: Yuichi Hino!"
Heero clenched his teeth some more and growled: "I am *no* fruit cake!"
Then he did the only thing that came into his mind. He grabbed Duo by his waist and shoulder, dipped him back and kissed him hard on the mouth in front of the laughing crowd.
Duo's eyes widened in surprise as he felt Heero's lips on his own. He knew it was to keep their cover up but he bet they made a very funny image. A beautiful girl kissing a boy like it was the other way round in the movies. But then he remembered that for the others he was the `girl´ and Heero the boy. Then again he remembered why Heero was doing this and he almost broke the kiss because he had to laugh. By showing the others he was *not* gay the kiss told Duo that he *was* attracted to his friend. Or he just imagined kissing Relena.
Somehow that possibility made his heart hurt like it was cut by a knife.
Heero on the other hand was surprised by his actions as well. He had tried *everything* to get Duo out of his thoughts, especially his dreams and now he was *kissing* him. In front of all the other people. He told himself over and over again that he did it for the mission but then he realized he was enjoying this.
Noticing how rough he started the kiss to stop Jean from blabbering he now softened his actions, trying to apologize for his previous behavior.
Thus he felt Duo respond to his kiss as the longhaired boy put his arms around his neck. Just then he realized how soft Duo's lips were. Softly he nibbled on the lower lip feeling Duo shudder in his arms.
But before he could get lost in the pleasure this caused, he felt a pad on his shoulder.
Slowly he broke the kiss, staring into Duo's violet orbs for a second and heard Olivia clear her throat.
"You can stop now. I think they believe you."
To be continued...

Funny, ne? Yesterday I wrote I had a lack of motivation and today I'm posting the next chapter... Yes, I was *very* bored today.
Thank you Tasuki for giving me the idea of dip-and-kiss. And thanks to my friend Judith telling me what `fruit cake´ meant.
Please tell me what you think of Duo's and Heero's first kiss. *waves*
