Heero glared at the senator who smiled self-confidently at him. Duo was still too surprised by the fact that he *did* have a family that he wasn't able to move, let alone speak.
"What do you want?"
"Oh, nothing important," the senator replied. "I just have some toys for you to play with, Duo Maxwell and Heero Yuy."
Duo winced by the mention of his and Heero's real names. Heero's glare just got deeper and he clenched his teeth. If he hadn't left his gun back in his room he would have drawn and pointed it directly between the senator's eyes, at last now. But so all he could do was hope that the man would drop dead by his icy stare. Duo had told him it was possible.
"So I see I was right about this one...," the auburn-haired man muttered, more to himself. Heero couldn't believe it! He had been bluffing about this fact! If they hadn't reacted like they had he might have let them go without making them play with his `toys.´ Heero could only guess what these things were. Probably weapons. The senator smiled his business smile.
"I heard you have some skills with piloting Mobile Suits. And that you've destroyed your `partners´ half a year ago. Do you miss them?"
"Why does it matter?" Heero growled.
"Oh, it doesn't. I was just curious." The senator was still smiling. "What does your Vice Foreign minister-friend say to your `relationship´ with your ex-partner?"
Heero spoke through gritted teeth. "I haven't talked to her lately."
"Oh, you should," Secunda suggested. "It might be the last time you have the chance to, Heero Yuy."
"What do you mean by that?"
Heero was slightly confused that Duo hadn't said a word since he was announced to be the real nephew of Jacques Secunda and let him do all the talking. He wasn't good at this diplomatic stuff. He wished Relena was here to help him because he doubted that Duo would find the right words to talk to the older man. But the last sentence had sounded too much like a death threat so he would have to fear about her life *if* she were here. It was still his mission to protect her for she meant peace. But senator Secunda seemed to have other plans for her.
"Oh, only that she might die soon," he replied nonchalantly.
Heero's eyes narrowed to ice-cold slits. He hated that he had to ask everything out of the usually talkative man.
"Tell me what you have in mind and I will rethink your death sentence."
"Don't say such harsh words, Yuy. It's just that taking her hostage won't work, she might turn our plans around like she did twice before. You must know that, you were a major reason for her actions," the senator finally explained. "So we will assassinate her, take over Sanc and finally declare war against anybody who doesn't join our little organization. You sure must know its name, it's your fault that were this few now."
"Let me guess, two letters?" Heero said sarcastically.
Inside his mind was racing. He had to protect Relena! He couldn't allow this man to endanger the peace they had fought so hard for! He and Duo had to find a way to sabotage his plans. Heero wished he could talk to his partner now but the American was still in some kind of shock and seemed like he wasn't listening at all.
"Smart boy!" the senator exclaimed.
Duo chose this moment to wake up from his daze and looked curiously at the two people arguing.
/What's happening here?/
"What if we don't want to play with your `toys´? Will you kill us?"
/Kill? Why would my uncle want to kill me and my boyfriend?/
"Oh, I won't kill you," the senator warded off. "I really like you two and I need you, Heero Yuy and Duo Maxwell. So I give you a choice: You can either leave this place immediately, forgetting everything I've told you now or you can stay and pilot my toys."
/Oh, now I remember... What will Heero do?/
Heero promptly decided to leave and protect Relena but he wasn't sure about Duo. And then he loved the long-haired boy. What if he wanted to stay? Would that mean they had to break up? Would he hate him for leaving him here, alone again? But then this man *was* his uncle. They would have to blow up this place and Heero would make sure the senator was around when he did so. Duo would *definitely* hate him for killing his only relative.
"You don't have to answer now", the senator disturbed his thoughts. "There is a plane leaving in two hours. It will be enough time for you two to talk things over and tell me your decision."
With that he left the balcony, leaving two speechless boys and one unconscious woman behind.
Duo looked at his love with a mixture of acknowledgement, sadness and curiosity.
"You're gonna leave, aren't you?"
Heero winced at the silent exclamation. Why did Duo have to know him so well?
"Yes," he answered equally silent. He couldn't look into those blue violet orbs that he knew were looking at him melancholy. He was afraid to know the answer to his next question. "Will you?"
Duo looked at him for a long time. Then down onto his nanny, considering if he should help her up but decided that he and Heero had to sort out things before that.
"Heero, I..."
"You don't have to," Heero interrupted him softly.
Duo looked surprised into warm Prussian blue eyes. Why doesn't he want his boyfriend to join him?
"I know how much you wanted a family, so I won't make you come with me if you don't want to."
"But Heero, *you* are my family," Duo protested.
"But not your *real* family," Heero shook off that weak objection. "I know how much you suffered by being an orphan all your whole life. This is probably your only opportunity to find out what happened to your real family. Don't waste it just because of me. I will be fine."
Duo's eyes were welling with tears as Heero wrapped his arms around him.
"Just don't forget that I love you with all of my heart."
Duo suppressed his sobbing and wiggled out of Heero's embrace.
"Hold it, will ya? I have something to say about that as well!"
Heero shivered a little under the glare Duo gave him. "Sorry..."
"Don't feel sorry," Duo sighed, leaning his forehead onto Heero's chest. "You're right, those are exactly the reasons why I want to stay here. But I won't help these OZ-bastards to blow up Sanc! This is still *our* peace! I've been working so hard for this, I won't let them make me help them destroy it! It's just... I want to know more about my mother... and why I didn't grow up as a filthy rich brat like that Diana-chick I was playing..."
Heero smiled at the strong outcry. It was still Duo who was leaning into his embrace, not a boy who was more like a girl. He cursed fluently {1}, was determined to see through his tasks and could still snap into his Shinigami-mode whenever he liked to. Heero grabbed him by the shoulders, pulled him away firmly and looked into his eyes.
"Listen, let's make a compromise. You'll stay here and watch things over while I return to Sanc, telling the others what happened and protecting Relena. And if you're in some kind of trouble *don't* hesitate to contact me. I will be here in less then ten hours to get you out of here. Does that sound okay?"
Duo nodded. He had winced by the mention of Relena and Heero was slightly sorry that he was so blunt about telling his reasons for leaving. He kissed the long-haired boy on the forehead.
"Aishiteru. Itsumo." {2}
Duo looked at him, curiously. "I never knew you were *that* talkative."
"Well, even I have a word to say from time to time," Heero smirked.
"That's why I love you. Especially when you say these words." He kissed Heero's nose. "I'll miss you."
Heero pulled him closer. "I will miss you, too..."
He pulled him into a very deep kiss that lasted until Heero had to gather his personal belongings to catch the flight the senator had supposed to him. The man wasn't surprised to see that Duo was staying. He knew the long-haired boy wanted to know more about his past and thought the senator would be the one to know. But what he had told the two ex-Gundam-pilots was all that he knew about that. It was a pity that he only had *one* of the best MS-pilots he could find in the universe but one was better than none. So he kept his word, allowing Heero to leave unharmed.
[That mission is almost a failure yet...]
~z~
When Heero called a taxi he wasn't so sure anymore if he had made the right decision. He was missing Duo already more than he wanted to admit. It felt like his heart had been torn into pieces. Only that the mission was not yet completed kept him distracted enough so that he wouldn't turn on his heel and return to his beloved. He shortly told the driver where to get him to and hoped he wasn't the talkative one that told you the story of his life while driving you around the corner. He was lucky though and had time enough to reconsider what had happened.
This morning everything was peaceful and happy and then it had gone progressively wrong from there. He still saw Duo's sad look as he was leaving, yet dressed up as ever, hair braided and the voice-changing device out of his mouth and secure in a small box. He was standing next to his uncle as Heero climbed into another cab that took him along the still wonderful and huge flower fields that held so many memories for him. They made him realize how adorable Duo was, told them that he loved the braided baka and reminded him of the first time they made love. He reached up to his neck to clutch the simple golden cross that Duo gave him in front of an equally beautiful flower field. He didn't know that at this particular moment Duo was reaching into the pocket of his black trousers to get hold of the little bell that had come with a red ribbon around the neck of the Easter bunny Heero had bought for him. He missed his love just as much although they had been separated only 2 hours yet. How could they live without each other for days? How was it possible for them to survive before they had been a couple? Heero couldn't tell. He remembered that he had missed Duo before he was sent away on this mission that went so horribly wrong. And the reason was they had been getting careless. They had forgotten the mission because they were too much involved with each other to take notice of what was happening around them.
[Kuso! I should have seen it coming! It was to quiet... If I noticed earlier what the senator was planning... Kuso!]
Heero cursed that he couldn't change what had happened. For the thousandth time he wished he could turn back time to correct the mistakes he had made in the past. Then he wouldn't have killed that little girl and all the other people living near that unlucky base, he wouldn't have killed Marshal Noventa and made it a reason for Oz to attack the colonies and most of all he would have prevented senator Secunda from building his own army of mobile suits.
He paid the driver and sighed out loud as he fumbled with the keys of the ex-pilots house. He looked around but Wufei was no where in sight so he supposed the Chinese man was at the Preventers' headquarters. He picked up the next telephone and called him. After calling him what had happened he quickly packed some fresh clothes and moved out again, not sure if he looked forward to meeting Relena. He sure had a lot of things to talk about with her.
He called the third cab that day and sighed for the 2347th time as it took of slowly to the nearby residence of the Vice Foreign minister. {3}

{1} I am not able to curse that much in English... Don't even think I am in German as well... My cursing only consists of a few words... Though I learned *much* by reading GW-fics...
{2} For those who might not know, it means "I love you. Always."
{3} I am not completely sure if this is Relena's occupation after the war...

In the next parts I have to deal with Relena. And I still *like* her! (Her birthday is two days before mine relying on the information that I have so I *must* like her!) I have another fic in mind for that date... (Heh heh) Mata ne and please R&R!
