Gundam Wing Fan Fiction ❯ Fly agaric and the Big Bad Wolf ❯ Chapter 2
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
Solo didn't know how long it had been. Felt like years. He didn't know what he was doing here, anyway.
The blond boy was leafing trough some very old and tattered Donald Duck magazines at the dentist's reception. Nothing was wrong with his teeth, of course. Oh, no, his teeth were fine. As strong and pearly white as ever.
But, unfortunately, Duo had not been quite so lucky. He had a cavity, and he was scared of dentists.
Solo had forced him to not eat anything at all at school, in hopes of reducing the whining that came from the pain in the tooth.
See, along with the whining, Duo had been pleading with him to to the dentsist with him. He was so scared.
Solo could't afford anybody hear THAT. He just didn't know how to make the boy harder and cooler. He tried and tried, but the only thing, that had happened so far seemed to be, that he himself had gotten softer.
For example, look at him now: Here he was, siting in the waiting room, waiting for Duo, because he could't say no his big, teary, violet eyes.

Solo sighed again.
At that same moment, the door to the waiting room opened, and Duo walked trough it.
He seemed to be a little wobbly of his feet, and his face was very pale, but otherwise he seemed fine. Solo let out an other sigh.
”It wasn't so bad, now, was it? See, you're still alive, and walking.” He put his hands on his knees and got up from the brown leather seat. After that he stretched.
While he was stretching, he felt something warm press against his side. ”Yeah, it helped to know, that you were here, Solo. I just kept thinking about that, and then I wasn't so afraid anymore...”
Duo was cuddling him.
Solo slumped. ”WHAT have I told you about...” but then he just let it go. He was too tired.
And Duo was happily cuddling his side.
”Are we going to go to the second-hand shop now, Solo? I mean, after I go tell mother, that everything's fine. I saw some really cool looking books...”
”Please, could you talk about cool-looking cd's, at least... Books aren't cool...” Solo was aftraid that if someone heard, then they might think, that he had becme a book-nerd.
Duo just shrugged and happily complied.

Sometimes that irritated Solo, also. He could't understand why, though. Duo did try to follow his instructions, even if he occasionally forgot, like it happened especially with the hugging thing.... But he tried. And that should have been a good thing. But to his surprise, Solo hoped, that Duo would stand up against him sometimes, to defend the things that he himself liked.
Solo really didn't understand this about himself, and thinking about it was tiring, so he finally just decided that it was Duo's lack of strenght, that irritated him, in the end.
Duo had stopped molesting his side, so they left to go say hello to Duo's mom before going to that store, that Duo was talking about.
Solo liked Duo's mom. She was pret-ty. Reeaally pretty. And she looked just like Duo. Duo was really pretty, too, not that Solo liked that.
They had that same gentle and happy expression on their faces. Sometimes Solo wondered, if Duo had some girl-genes or something like that in him...
And the way Duo trusted him... No wonder he was so trustfull, with a mom like that.
Solo wondered, if he would have turned out different, if he had had parent's like Solo's.
Solo's father was always working. Sometimes he felt that he would't recognise his dad, if he came across him in the streets.
His mom was mostly at home, and everyday she promised to do something with Solo, but she never did. She just lay on the couch, watching soap-opera's from the television.
Then she would sometimes travel to see her mom, and never took Solo with her. During these times, Solo's dad came home earlier, brought him shiny, expencive presents, and then went to do some work with a colleague, he had brought with him from work.
This colleague was usually a woman, usually pretty, very thin, very make-upped and very blond. ”Solo, this is my colleague, Tina. Say hello.” ”Solo, this is my secretary, Ursula, say hello.” ”Solo, this is my assistant, Rachel, say hello.”
And he sure had a lot of assistants and secretaries and collagens, or whatever that word was, again...
When he was little, Solo had thought, that that just showed what an important man his father was, but now he understood better... So he took his fathers shiny gifts to boast with them at school, and hid himself in the attic, because his fathers room was downstairs.
Duo was very poor, as far as Solo could tell, but he was happy. Always happy. Sometimes Solo hated him.
He sighed, again, like he seemed to be doing very often these days. Duo was skipping- Duo was SKIPPING beside him!
”Stop that! Duo! Right now!!” and Solo's eyes got huge with fright, but luckily no-one that they knew had seen them. Duo just looked at him, and nodded then, completely unbothered, and stopped his skipping.
They walked for a while longer, and when they were close to Duo's home, Solo suddenly saw a small yard. It was a yard he knew, because he had been playing there as a little kid. It had a high wire-net fence around it, and he didn't really know, what it was originally built there for, but sometimes old Jake from Solo's neighbor house went there to let his dog walk about free.
It was a vicious looking animal, that all of the kids, and almost all of the adults in the neigborhood feared.
Now Solo saw, that it was in the yard, but it had been tied to the fence. It had room to walk, but it could't reach quite everyplace in the yard.
That's when he got his ingenous idea of making Duo braver. The dog was safely tied to the fence, so no harm would come to the boy, but he would be forced to face some fears.
”Look, Duo. That's our neighbor's dog, there. Why don't we go say hello to it?”
Duo looked at the direction Solo's bony, tanned finger was pointing at, and frowned. He scratched his neck, looking a bit doubtfull.
”I don't know, Solo... It doesn't look very nice...”
Solo made a large, dismissive arc with his arm. ”It's a pet rabbit, Duo. C'mon, man! It's the nicest thing alive!” When Duo was still looking hesitant, Solo grabbed the boy's arm, and made him walk forward. The dog was facing away from them, when they came to the door in the fence. Solo was very quiet and opened the latch as carefully as he could. ”Go on.” he whispered to Duo, who was wringing his fingers in his black shirt, and frowning a little. ”C'mon.” said Solo, and flashed a special, Solo Shephard patented smile, that made Duo smile back instinctively, and Solo nudged him in.
At that same moment, the dog turned around, and growled. Saliva was hanging from the corners of it's mouth, and Solo could swear, that it's eyes were burning.
He let the latch of the door drop to place.
