Chapter 5
(What Duo doesn't know, won't hurt him)
School started soon after. It was then that Heero realized that this year was really going to be hell for him. Right from the start he didn't fit in. People either recognized him as the murderer he once was by occuption, not by choice; or it was his age that turned people away. No one would talk to him and he was immediately the victim of bullying.
The petit Asian boy sat in the back corner on his own and tried to ignore the knowing glances and the cold glares that were sent his way. Normally, these looks wouldn't have affected him so, but after the run in the with doctor J and his goons....something inside him had broken and his emotions were running rampant.
His first few classes went buy without a hitch as there was no innerclass interaction. Heero couldn't wait until lunch time so he could just sit with Duo and bask in his presence. But when lunchtime came Duo was no where to be found. Heero searched the whole of lunchtime and found his friend surrounded by a group of people. Without making a scene Heero turned around and headed back to the form room, to prepare for his next class. Science.
It was during this lesson that Heero found a knife, which triggered something in his memory from days gone by. He lifted up his left arm and looked at the wrist, where he saw a thin scar. 'Maybe' he thought 'maybe Duo won't notice. And if I don't do it too deep it won't cause any damage.' With that thought and no others...Heero lightly cut horizontally accross his wrist. He watched as the blood emerged from the small cut and ran down the sides of his wrist. His lab partner suddenly looked over curious to see why Heero had stopped half way through the experiment.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" questioned the student.
"I slipped....I was trying to cut the wire, but I got my wrist instead." Heero bullshitted.
"Sensei," the student yelled, "we've had an accident here."
"What happened" cried the teacher, who, by appearance, seemed in her mid twenties. She looked at Heero waiting for a response but he had none to offer.
"He said that he slipped." reported the student.
"I'm fine," pressed Heero, "Can I just go to the bathroom and wash up?"
"Sure. But don't take too long." warned the teacher.
"Whatever."
Heero walked to the bathroom and locked himself in a toilet stall, he sat on the lid and looked at the crude writings on the door. He could feel the tears from the day threaten to spill forward and had to use iron will to prevent himself from balling. Still, a few stray tears managed to slip past his guard and run down his cheeks. He felt foolish, but he couldn't stop the tears that were now casscading down his ivory cheeks. What had gone wrong? He used to be so confident and nothing could phase him at all. Now he was upset just because no one like him. A long time ago he used to like it when no one liked him...now all he wanted was friends. And where was Duo, surrounded by other students. He believed that Duo's words of love could have been true. But why wasn't he there at lunchtime then.
'I want Duo...just to be here with me...I don't want to be alone anymore.'
Using toilet paper he pressed it against the cut and waited for the flow of blood to subside before he joined the class again.
The rest of the day travelled by smoothly, but it wasn't till the end of the day that Heero was able to see Duo again.
The final bell had just sounded and Heero walked slowly out of the classroom and towards the front of the school where he and Duo had decided to meet. When he got there he saw Duo was surrounded again by a group of students. Not wanting to interfere, Heero walked past silently and started towards Duo's home. But his presence didn't escape Duo's sight.
"Heero. Hey Heero. Wait up" Duo cried extracting himself from the crowd of students. He ran up to walk beside the shorter boy waiting for him to reply.
"How was your day Heero?" Duo asked.
Heero didn't respond, he just kept walking and thinking about the best way to hide the day's prediciment from Duo's knowing glances. 'If I just act like normal he won't suspect anything.'
"Heero?"
"Oh, it was fine."
"Where were you, I couldn't find you in your class room." Duo questioned.
"I was around. I was looking for you."
"Oh."
The two walked home without any further conversation, although, Duo managed to slip his arm around Heero's waist. They arrived home shortly afterwards and the night continued without any floors.
Heero was warn out from blood loss and decided to go to bed early, in order to forget about the day's happenings. He climbed into bed at a quater to nine praying that maybe tomorrow would be a better day. He didn't notice that Duo was watching from the doorway, a worried expression glued to his face.
'I know something is wrong with you Heero. I'm going to make sure that nothing can harm you again, including what is bothering you now.'

I am going to continue into the next chapter, which will contain more angst. If any of you guys have suggestions of what you want to happen in this fic...please write and tell me. Cause if it keeps going the way it is...it will probably finish in a few chapters.
See ya.
