Chapter One: Intro

Heero stared emptily at the cereal that Quatre had put in front of him. It didn't look very good. If anything, it looked like Heero would be a cannibal if he ate it, juding by how every piece looked like him or one of his fellow pilots.
"Why on earth did they make a cereal featuring us?" Heero asked aloud, pushing the bowl away and sighing. "Hn?"
"Don't ask me." Wufei asked, looking over his morning paper. "I find it injust that in order to eat I have to look at about a dozen mini-me's that seem to be trying to tell me that I shouldn't eat them."
Duo chuckled. "You just have an over-active imagination." Duo stared down at the cereal and then frowned. "Oh my! They **do** look like they're trying to tell us not to eat them." Duo pushed away the cereal. "We are never getting this cereal again. Now I feel bad for eating half a box of us yesterday."
Wufei rolled his eyes. "Yeah whatever Duo." Wufei went back to reading his paper and Duo sighed, why on earth didn't Wufei pay half a minute's attention to him? It wasn't fair! The one person in this whole hellhold that he **wanted** to pay attention to him wasn't going to give him a second look.
Duo got up and dumped his mini-selves in the garbage and threw the rest of the box out. Then Duo headed out to the porch to think. To think about Wufei mostly but still
Duo had only been crushing on Wufei for the past three weeks. Before that, he had wanted Heero but the boy had seemed to be interested with only a friendship, nothing more. Duo had finally given up and let Heero have just that. Then Duo had noticed Wufei.
Wufei was quiet, like Heero, which was a positive quality. Duo liked to talk and so tried to pick guys that didn't like to talk so much so that they never had a fight about who talked more. Duo had actually had a fight like that with a guy before and he never wanted to have to tell with that again. Which was why Heero not talking much had never bothered him.
But Wufei did talk enough to carry a conversation with Duo, which was something that the perfect solider had never done. Except when they were talking about gundams or the war. That seemed to have been the only time Duo could get Heero interested in what Duo was talking about. Besides that, there was no reaction from the perfect solider, none at all. If Duo had been died, he bet he would have gotten a better reaction from Heero.
Wufei was also handsome and cared for hair as much as Duo did. Heero on the other hand, didn't understand why Duo payed so much attention to his hair. In fact that had been the core of one of their few arguements once. Heero had stormed off in the end and that had left Duo madder but then Duo realized in the end that Heero had done so because he would have probably hurt Duo physically if he hadn't.
Wufei was also way more in control of his actions than Heero was, due to all of the mediation exercises that Wufei did daily. Duo wondered if Wufei would allow him to get closer if Duo asked him to teach him mediation exercises.
Nah, Duo thought almost immediately. He'd probably just think that I was up to something to catch Heero's eye.
Out of all of the pilots in the house Wufei had been the first to notice that Duo had an infacuation with Heero. About a week after Duo had realized it himself, Wufei had pulled Duo aside and talked to him about it. What Wufei had actually said, Duo didn't remember but he didn't remember that it was along the lines of 'don't get yourself killed by acting lovesick'. Duo smirked at that, Heero probably would have killed him if he had noticed how Duo was acting, but thankfully he hadn't.
Duo blinked as he realized that Heero had joined him on the porch at some point and that Duo hadn’t even noticed. “Hey Heero, sorry about the zoning out. I didn’t even notice that you were there until just a second ago.”
Heero shrugged, like Heero always did when Duo said something like that. “I haven’t been here long.”
“Oh? How long isn’t long?”
“A minute or two.” Heero admitted and then stared up at the morning sun. When he realized that he was making Duo feel uncomfortable he turned to go into the yard. “I’m going to go and check up on the dogs. I’ll be back later.”
Duo nodded and watched Heero go and couldn’t help but wonder if Heero had always been like that. If Heero had always been so weird around him. If Heero had always had a certain look in his eyes that seemed to ask Duo something but he couldn’t figure out what. And if not, where had it come from and when had it arrived?

Wufei watched the two of them outside of the kitchen window. It was so obvious that Heero was suddenly interested in Duo and well, Wufei had already known that Duo had a crush on Heero once upon a time. What was to stop Duo from going back to that? Nothing, nothing at all. And then Wufei wouldn’t stand a chance at all.
Wufei wondered what would happen if he just went up to Heero and told him that he was in love with him. Heero would most likely look at him with a weird expression on his face and then shake his head. Then Wufei would go to bed and wake up the next morning, only to find that Heero was gone.
It was some sort of weird poetic justice. When Wufei had told Duo that he shouldn’t go after Heero because Heero was most likely not interested in him and that Wufei would be happy to warm his bed, Duo had froze. He had froze and turned away, gone to bed and as far as Wufei knew, had buried the memory so far in his brain that he wouldn’t ever remember it. That was about a year ago when Duo had first shown interest in the perfect pilot. After that had happened, Wufei had gone off on his own more often, only to find that Heero followed him most of the time. The person that his crush loved, was the person that was following him around. There had to be something wrong with the world. Not that he minded Heero’s company. It was good company to have. Heero only talked when he wanted to and for some strange reason Heero had always made an extra effort to talk to Wufei. If Wufei hadn’t known better, he would have thought that Heero did like him in a romantic sense but Wufei’s one time checking, of bending down so that they were also kissing, had been looked at with disgust.
Wufei sighed, was he doomed to forever not know what love was, or meant? Why was it that everyone that Wufei wanted to be with in some sense seemed to not want to be with him. After that had happened with Heero, he had backed off completely, not wanting to make Heero feel uncomfortable. Wufei had seen some looks of regret aimed at him for a little while after but Wufei had always been sure that it was just his own imagination, wanting Heero to regret what hadn’t happened.
Now Wufei just watched Heero from afar. For some strange reason, even after what had happened, Wufei couldn’t bring himself to not want Heero. It was like a diesease that wouldn’t go away. A diesease that symptoms felt good in the beginning and then just got worse and worse until Wufei would eventually die from it. And Wufei was almost certain that he would eventually die from this. Simply because he wanted Heero so much and yet Heero was so far away.
Wufei sighed and watched as Duo followed Heero to wherever Heero was going. They had probably joined up and were going to go make out. Probably everyone here knew about it besides Wufei.
Why? Because Wufei was blind when it came to Heero.
Completely and totally blind.
With that thought Wufei turned and headed upstairs to do some mediation. He was going to need it if he wanted to get through today without throwing himself at Heero’s feet and begging him to kiss him, to fuck him, to hold him, to do practically anything.
Wufei felt some eyes on his back and then turned, seeing only Heero and Duo in the window and walked back up the stairs. It couldn’t be, neither of them could possibly be watching him. Neither of them would want to be watching him.
Wufei felt those eyes on him again and he froze.
They wouldn’t be watching him. Right?

Heero realized that Duo was following him and sighed, why couldn’t the braided baka just leave him alone to his thoughts. Heero didn’t mind the fact that Duo liked hanging around with him and was there every once in a while to talk to. But sometimes Heero just needed time to think to himself and it seemed that whenever Heero needed that time, Duo was right there to make sure that he didn’t get it.
Heero headed for where their four dogs were. Everyone in the house owned a dog except for Trowa. Trowa preferred the lions that he had back with his sister, in fact he flew out to see them once a week with Quatre. Heero didn’t mind, it had turned out that he had to take care of all four of the dogs aways. Duo was too forgetful most of the time and his dog tended to starve since Duo was more likely to play his video games and such then remember his dog. Quatre was usually on some business trip and didn’t have the time to take care of his dog and Wufei was always mediating or out on preventer’s business. Wufei had come out once when Heero was feeding his dog and had apologized profusively for Heero having to do that. Heero had shrugged and said he didn’t mind, and that was true.
Heero opened the gate to the huge dog cage and entered it, Duo following him and closing the door behind. The four dogs instantly ran to Heero, recongizing the familiar face. Duo leaned against the gate and just watched. His dog would eventually make its way over to Duo but not for a minute or two. They would first check to see if Heero had anything for them to eat and then they would go to see Duo to check if he had anything for them to eat. Heero smirked, food first, play second.
“Hey girl.” Duo’s voice ran out as his dog, Lior, ran up to him and began to sniff him. “Heero?”
“Hn?” Heero responded, petting his own dog, Amaya.
“Do you enjoy working with the dogs?” Duo’s question was so innocent but Heero knew that there was a reason he was asking this and Heero was curious as to what it was.
“Yeah.” Heero replied and then looked at Duo with harsh eyes. “Why?”
“I was just wondering.” Duo said and then looked back down at Lior and then back up and sighed. “Alright, promise you won’t get mad at me for suggesting it? I didn’t sign you up or anything, I just thought I would pass it by you.” “Tell me.”
“There’s a job opening at the preventer’s.”
Heero sighed. He had turned down the job at the preventers a year ago because he hadn’t wanted it. The war was over and Heero needed to leave it behind. Having a job like working at the preventers was not going to help Heero forget his training. So Heero had said no and walked away. Now to have Duo tell him that there was a job opening there and suggesting that Heero take it was unnerving.
“Just let me finish.” Duo said quickly. “They want someone to train the dogs that have to go on a mission with us. They want me and Wufei especially to have a canine companion.” Duo looked over at Heero. “Une asked if I knew anyone who would do something like that. Someone that I would trust enough to teach the animal I was going to have at my side. I said I might know a person and left it at that.” Duo eyed Heero. “Would you?”
Heero shrugged. “I don’t know. I wouldn’t know how to start.”
“They’ll run you through a class. You’re smart, you’d go through it in less than three months. Come on Heero, you can do it.”
Heero sighed. “You’re not going to let me say no, are you?”
“You only have to stay there until you’re done training Wufei and my dogs. I promise you.” Duo pleaded with him. “I just would rather have you train our dogs than someone I don’t know. It’s just more comfortable for me.”
Heero nodded. “I’ll think about it.”
“Really?” Duo didn’t let another thought go through his head and he jumped on Heero. The dogs didn’t know what were going on and felt left out, so they did the same and Heero found himself under five beings.
“GET OFF!” Heero barked and everyone on him jumped back. Dog, Wufei’s puppy respectfully and Lior wagged their tails as they began to give Heero a tongue bath. Heero pushed them away and shook his head. “Alright, alright. I can tell when I’m out numbered.” Heero looked up at Duo. “I’m in. When do I start?”
Duo grinned. “You won’t regret this.”
Heero rolled his eyes. “I already do.”
Duo stuck his tongue out at Heero. “No you don’t.” Duo pulled Heero up. “Come on, lets go tell Wufei the news.” With that Duo ran off.
Heero followed him until Duo was satisfied that Heero was there and stopped looking behind him. At that second Heero turned and headed into the forest. He wanted to think by himself and he was going to, whether Duo wanted him to or not. There was nothing the long-haired baka was going to do about it.
“God, I thought I’d never get away.” Heero said quietly to himself and sighed. “What is with him?” Heero paid no attention to the sounds of Duo calling his name. “You’d think he was my mother and trying to keep me from going astray or something.”
Heero sighed as he thought of Duo’s proposal for him to work at the preventers. Knowing Une she would help him find hours that would work for him. Hours that would allow him to continue his shift at the corner store.
Heero smirked, anyone that knew the person he had been during the world would find it weird that he was working at a corner store. Hell, he could have any job that he wanted if it had to do with computers and Heero knew it. And wasn’t ready for it.
Heero had no social skills. None at all. That was something else that Heero knew. So he had taken a job at a store, a position as a clerk. That would require him to interact with people that came into the store. He had started out not knowing what he was doing and not talking to most of the people that came in but with a little help from the friendly stocker and a few of the normal customers soon he was relaxed and able to talk to anyone. Plus his war skills and reputation kept punks from coming in to steal things from the store so it was good for everyone.
Heero was now changed. He was relaxed enough to be able to talk to strangers on the street if he had to, just like Duo. Except he didn’t practice it as much as Duo did. But the point was that he could do it if he wanted to. He was even able to go on a date with a girl and not get bored to death with her talking on and on. So he had found out by going out on a date with Stephanie, the stocker’s friend. She was weird and once she started talking, she really got going. There hadn’t been a repeat date but at least Heero knew that he could handle it.
But what he couldn’t handle was some of the people that he lived with. Wufei and Duo to be exact.
Both of them seemed to be, or atleast had been, crushed on him and Heero didn’t know what to do about it. He liked them but didn’t know if he liked them as much as they did.
Which is why he wanted to be alone to think. He needed to figure this out soon or it just might torture him, and the stocker.
She, Neko, was Heero’s best female friend, and nothing more. She knew everything about Heero’s life and moreso. She enjoyed teasing him about the way Duo came in once every other day to ‘buy something’ and usually ended up talking to Heero for an hour while other customers came in and out. Heero didn’t see how it was so funny and she had gotten tired of trying to explain it to him.
And she also wanted Heero to find out how he felt about the pilot because she needed to know if she could ‘move in’ and see if the other pilot was ‘interested’. They both knew that Heero and Duo both shared their sexual interests, both being bisexual and Neko wanted to move in and get him but wasn’t going to if Heero liked him. She was good that way and Heero was glad of it.
But the question was, did Heero want Duo? And if so, how could he convinve Duo of it? And if not, then who was he interested in?

[A/N: I hope that wasn’t too weird because well, I just have to set the basis for this story so far and I’m not done yet so you’re going to have to put with at least another half a chapter like this but then it’ll get interesting, I promise. So Reviews??? PLZ??? ]
