Summary: The war has been over for years. Our pilots have worked hard to keep the peace they fought so hard to help create. Just months from retirement, Heero Yuy goes missing. Who is trying to capture the pilots and what is his connection to them?
Authors note: Lemon ahead. I have rewritten this chapter probably half a dozen times. It's all a question of how much detail there should be… have I used too much? Too little? The whole scene was inspired by a poem called `Submissive strength'. It was written by a friend to help explain being a submissive. She's asked that I not share her name but has given me permission to share her poem.

(Strong, to the world I should always be in control of myself.
Strength without breaking;
learn to bend or break beneath the strain.

I need to give up my control.
Take my sight, bind me, peal away my walls and my control.
Make me tremble and beg. Make it okay.
Give me peace and Love.
Hold me, let me cry, reassure me once I've shattered for shatter I will.

I will love. I will take care of.
Lean on me when the world is too much,
I am strong for you because you are strong for me.
Let me be your hidden strength.

Understand my misbehavior,
I am scared/overwhelmed/don't know how to ask for what I need.
Punish me when I need it because it makes me feel safe.

Tell me what you want;
I will do my best to give it to you.
I will give all I am.
I will never completely lose myself. - my friend, A strong confident woman.)

Sally and Une walked out of Medical tired and haggard versions of themselves. Sally went to Wufei, exhausted and emotionally wrung out from the day, and allowed him to support her for a moment.

“Twenty-four of the children are uninfected. The other four were never hostages. They were test subjects,” informed Sally tiredly. “The four that tested positive for the nanites have been infected within the last three weeks. I would guess that they're from the streets. All four of them show signs of long term malnutrition but I've got people searching missing persons just in case. I need someone to check the nanites; I think that there is something wrong with them.”

“What do you mean by wrong?” questioned Heero.

“The samples that Duo showed me were moving, busy like normal cells. The nanites in the kids blood are lethargic, limping along as though they're unfinished,” replied Sally. “I don't know what's wrong with them but I'm worried that they could be causing more harm than good.”

“Not yet, but we will have to check their programming. It should wait until they are drug free, I don't know how the torture would have affected their development,” answered Heero.

“Waiting would be best. They're all still fighting the drugs and from their reactions I'd guess that they've been tortured quite thoroughly,” sighed Sally, “besides, we all need to get some sleep. I don't know about the rest of you but I'd really like to sleep in my own bed.”

“All of you should go home and get some rest, reconnect. Tomorrow is going to be more difficult than today.” She gave Heero and Duo a careful once over, noting the dark circles under their eyes. “The two of you are not to report before noon, if you report in at all. Neither of you can participate in the interrogation of Cronus until I get a special sanctions from the council.”

“We'll be in to check out the nanites,” said Heero, some of his wartime monotone returning.

“But,” Duo started to protest before Heero's hand clamped over his mouth.

“She's working on getting special sanctions. I'm sure that Quatre will make sure that things run smoothly in our favor. We must let him have fun too,” Heero said with a smirk.

Duo sighed and relented without further fight. “I'm gonna go get Gearradh from the kennels before she chews through again. She's spent way too much time there the last six weeks.”

“I want to speak to Heero alone for a moment,” said Une seriously, “Go get that monster of yours and we'll be waiting for you here.”

“We'll see you tomorrow,” Quatre added with a yawn before grabbing Trowa by the arm and leading the way out.

“Goodnight,” called Sally as she and Wufei followed them.

Heero watched as his friends left, his incredible mind trying to figure out why Une wanted to speak to him alone. Once Duo was out the door and well on his way, Heero turned vivid blue eyes on his commanding officer.

“I'm a little concerned about Duo,” she began, “He hasn't slept well, if at all, the entire time you were gone.”

“That is not unexpected,” replied Heero. “We have helped one another through our nightmares since during the first war.”

“Maybe the problem is more with me,” sighed Une moving to lean against a wall. “I never realized how many of his nightmares center on me. How has he continued to work here with them?”

“Have you spoken with him about this?” asked Heero running a hand through his hair.

“He called me at three am, an absolute wreak. It had been obvious that he wasn't sleeping that day, and hadn't been for a while. After getting over the apologizing, I finally got him to tell me why he was calling at three in the morning.”

“Anniversary of his incarceration on the moonbase,” groaned Heero. “Shit, his nightmares usually escalate around the anniversaries. That one, to my knowledge, has never been a huge one but add the extra stress and the lack of sleep and you have the making of a major incident.”

“His call was not an issue; I have my own demons borne from that base. I'm just worried about him,” she finished.

“He is fine as long as he doesn't bottle up his emotions. Calling you was probably the best thing he could have done under the circumstances. He has to talk it out to take the edge from the nightmares. It was a tactic we were just starting to explore before the attack. It has worked before. As for how he can continue to work here, you have to understand how he thinks. He separates everything, almost compartmentalizes things. During the war he was Duo and Shinigami, two halves of the whole. Duo fixed Deathscythe, interacted with us, did all of those things that didn't involve death and destruction. Shinigami was all things death and destruction. While physically they are the same, mentally they couldn't be; although in the end it was always Duo that felt the guilt and pain. It was his way of keeping his sanity. We all had our methods.”

“Don't take this the wrong way, Commander,” said Duo from the doorway startling them. “You were just another soldier following orders during the war. You're actions then have nothing to do with your actions now.”

“You don't do forgive and forget,” she stated.

“Nope, but I do forgive and remember the reasons it happened.” He let the huge black German Shepard off its leash, “Go see him monster. He was in a hurry to come see you I think, nearly dragging me down the hall tail wagging.”

Heero dropped to his knee and buried his hands into Gearradh's thick fur. He couldn't help but laugh at the sounds she made as she greeted him. She licked his face and rubbed against him nearly knocking him off his feet. In her excitement, she turned and licked at Une's hands, all the while loudly `talking'.

“I think she missed you,” laughed Une.

“Don't let her fool you,” replied Heero, “She is well and truly Duo's dog. She will miss me but she actively seeks him out.”

“Um… well…” stammered Duo, “She tried to find you, multiple times.”

“Go home,” ordered Une, “Hopefully we'll have the dispensation by mid-afternoon. Get some sleep, the floor was probably not the most comfortable place.”

“At the time it was heaven,” replied Duo. “Goodnight Commander.”

Duo disarmed the security system to their small house and let the dog off the leash. He rearmed the system, dropped his keys in the dish on the counter, and slipped off his shoes. Heero followed, watching his silent partner in concern. He reached out and tugged on the end of Duo's braid, stopping him in his tracks.

“Come here,” murmured Heero gently.

Duo turned violet eyes on his partner and stepped back into his space. As Heero drew him into a tight embrace, he murmured into Heero's neck, “You worrying warting about me too?”

Heero pulled the tie from Duo's braid and started unraveling it, “I know how strong you are but I always worry. You have a bad habit of thinking about everyone else and forgetting to take care of you.”

“Pot calling the kettle,” sighed Duo before kissing Heero's neck.

“I know,” replied Heero softly. “You know I'm okay, right.” At the lack of reply he gently tilted Duo's face up. “You found me and I'm safe. The nanites have done their job and I'm fine, if a little skinny still.”

The trembling began small, a tiny vibration in the hands on his back. He placed a gentle kiss first on forehead then lips. He knew without words that he was close breaking the mask his husband was using to hide. As the trembling increased, Heero scooped Duo up; his body protesting just a little. He ignored the slight protest of his healing body and moved towards the bedroom.

“Heero,” Duo protested, “You shouldn't be…”

“I'm fine,” interrupted Heero leaning in for a deeper kiss. Once he was sure his husband was thoroughly silenced, he laid him out on the bed. Cerulean eyes burned as they devoured the braided man. “I know how your mind works Duo Maxwell-Yuy,” he said with a smirk. He tugged at Duo's shirt, untucking it. “Until I prove to you that I'm fine, you're going to worry,” his smirk became something more, something predatory. “Besides, I've missed you.”

“So you're going to prove that you're okay?” questioned Duo hoarsely. Sitting up he allow Heero to remove his shirt.

All ability to speak seemed to leave him as lips attached to his collarbone. His hands moved without thought to snake their way under Heero's shirt only to have strong hands grab them and pull them back. His wrists were gently pressed against the bed beside his head as Heero's lips left his skin.

“Not yet,” Heero said huskily, “keep them there.”

He couldn't help the moan that escaped as Heero returned his attention to tasting each inch of his skin. Heero smiled against his skin and snaked his hand down to palm him through his pants. It drew another moan making Heero chuckle against his hip.

“Vocal tonight,” he chuckled huskily while slipping Duo's pants down his hips.

Duo, despite his usually vocal nature, tended to be quiet much to the amusement of his usually quiet partner. On the other hand, Heero knew he tended to be loud; embarrassingly so. It was something that they had agreed to not tease one another about and something he liked to push the limits of.

“Do you know how much I love you?” murmured Heero before nibbling on the ticklish place beside Duo's hipbone. He let his hands slide down and kneed at the soft globes of flesh, one finger seeking to brush enticingly over his entrance.

“Heero,” gasped Duo. When Heero's lips lightly brushed the tip of his penis he couldn't help the jerk of his hips, “please.”

He flicked his tongue along the tip and gently added pressure with his finger; Duo's gasping moan filling him with even more fire. Heero sat up and reached for the tube he knew would be within easy reach. He quickly spread the lube on his fingers and settled back between Duo's legs, all the while his eyes fixed on violet ones. Murmuring softly to his husband, he prepared him slowly and gently; indulging in the unusual sounds of his lovers pleasure.

“Please Heero,” Duo groaned, withering beneath his husband, “I… I need…”

“I know love,” Heero positioned himself and slowly pushed his way in.

He firmly pumped Duo's erection while allowing the braided man to adjust to the intrusion. Once Duo was pressing back he allowed himself to move, to fall into that timeless rhythm. Heero leaned forward, claiming a deep kiss as the passion built within them. He knew just before it happened that Duo succumbed, lithe body tensing slightly just before amethyst eyes rolled up and his hand was covered in the proof of Duo's orgasm. The clenching of muscle around him pushed him over the edge with a sharp cry.

Heero settled to the side, pulling Duo to his chest. He could feel the braided man tremble against him. He had, he knew, succeeded in breaking down Duo's mask. Using sex to shatter that mask was always a last ditch method but also the easiest.

“Love you,” sighed Duo as the emotional dam released. Tears streaked down his cheeks and he gave in to the trembling.

“Love you too,” whispered Heero holding tightly as the self proclaimed Shinigami shattered.

Duo's breath hitched as he started babbling his way through the story. Heero listened silently, knowing that to speak is to break the spell and end the healing release. Duo's heart wrenching tale of their search for him tore at his heart. The fact that he called Une to talk about his nightmares and nearly broke down on Sally, mid escape, told the real tale. After a while, he talked himself to sleep wrapped tightly around Heero.

He woke with every nerve screaming that something or someone was in the room with them. He forced his breathing and heart rate to stay at levels normal for sleep. He glanced from beneath his eyelashes for Gearradh and could make out her slumped for near the door. He knew without a doubt that she was not just sleeping, the slump of her posture unnatural as though she was stopped mid-motion. With a well trained eye, he searched the shadows for the intruder. Just as he spotted him, the cell phone on the bedside table started ringing.

“Nah uh,” said a familiar voice just as he felt the EMP shut down the nanites. He rode the wave of pain, just barely keeping consciousness. “I told you, you belong to me and I will have all of my little Gods.”
