She sat before the fan letting the cold air blow in her face. Behind her was the air conditioner, on at its full strength. Yet, it was still only a few degrees short of a sauna in the house. Her face was dripping with sweat from an entire day of helping Duo outside run the spare parts shop and making a quick stop at the grocery store to buy food. Of course she had to walk since Duo insisted on fixing the car, today.
She wiped her forehead and made her way to the window to see him working outside on that black jeep. His shirt was off, probably discarded somewhere it would stay outside for a few days until she found it or he used it as a rag. His bare back was to her glistening with sweat in the false sunlight, his muscles flexing and relaxing as he leaned over the engine slaving over god knows what. "How can he stand it out there?" she asked herself, running a hand through her short dark blue hair, admiring Duo's tense well muscled body. She opened the window and called out to him, "Duo you don't know what you can do to a girl looking that good." she laughed.
He turned towards her and flexed his biceps, laughing. "You like?" he asked in a playful voice.
Hilde smiled and winked at him, before closing the window and flopping herself onto the couch. "Really Duo, you don't know what you do to me." She pouted. It was four years after the war, a little more since they began to live together and manage his salvage business. Everyone looked at them as just a couple of friends, helping each other out, but for Hilde, being a just friend wasn't enough anymore.
As she sat there in the quiet air-conditioned house she could hear the clanking of metal and his curses and she laughed. "Hey babe, can you get me a beer please?" his voice sounded through the window.
Hilde laughed and nodded, walking into the kitchen and taking a can of beer from the fridge along with a coke for herself. She braced herself for the intense heat of the outdoors and opened the door, walking down the driveway where Duo worked. "How can you stand the heat?" she asked, handing him the cold can.
Duo shrugged his shoulders, "I don't know, I got stuff to do." He said.
Hilde shook her head and wiped at her forehead once more. "Whatever, I'm going inside, where it's not as hot." She turned on her heels and walked inside, closing the door behind her.
She went into the bathroom and filled the tub with cold water. She shed her clothing and stepped inside, letting the water cool her sticky hot skin.

Duo rolled his shoulders and touched his cheek with the cold can. "It's too hot out here." He breathed, getting back to work on his truck. "I think I'd be better off getting a new jeep if it would give me less problems than this piece of shit." He mumbled to himself, tightening the screws he loosened.
The hours wore on and he was nearly finished fixing the engine by the time the sun was setting. His hands were all black and scratched as was the red rag he hand hanging out of his back pocket. With one last frustrated growl Duo slammed the hood of his car shut and threw the wrench against the garage. His shoulders were burnt from the artificial sun and the muscles on his back hurt from bending over all day. He rubbed his forearm across his forehead and headed inside where Hilde had no doubt made supper.
Duo walked around the house to the backyard and eyed the pool. He thought of the heat and walked over to test the water with his blackened fingers. Not hot, not warm, just perfect for today, cold. "I'm going swimming later!" he snickered, walking back to the back door.
He took hold of the handle and swung open the door, leaving grease marks that Hilde would have a fit over all over the glass and wooden handle. "Hey Babe, guess who's - huh? Where's my food? Babe?" he looked around the dining room into the kitchen and found no one. "Hilde?"
"I'm in here." Her voice came from her bedroom.
Duo pulled off his boots and dumped them into a pile on the floor by the back door. "Whatcha doing?" he asked, stepping into her room. "Hey! It's colder in here than out there!" he commented, pointing to the living room.
Hilde was sprawled across the floor wearing only a dark blue bikini with a bag of ice wrapped in a washcloth on her forehead and a fan sitting on the linen chest pointed in her direction. "Yeah, and your point is?" she looked up at him and saw his hands, "That's gross! You better not have touched anything, or I swear I'm taking that braid from your head strand of hair by strand of hair! And I mean it this time Duo Maxwell!"
Duo yelped and thought back to anything he might have touched, "Nope, haven't touched a thing." He lied, knowing that he'd better clean up the backdoor window before she saw it. His stomach growled and he looked down at her "Where's my supper?" he asked.
Hilde glared at Duo, "You're funny! You expect me to cook you supper in this heat?"
"Yeah." He stated, "I'm hungry."
"Make your own food then. Order pizza because if you think I'm getting my ass off this COLD hardwood floor to slave over a stove just for you, you're insane." She grumbled. "Now I'm not done cooling off, bye."
Duo pouted, "Fine. I'll order pizza, but you ain't getting any." He stuck his tongue out at her and walked away. "By the way, you seem cold enough to me." He snickered.
Hilde's eyes opened, "What do you mean by that?" she asked.
Duo laughed, "Look down." He called over his shoulder.
Hilde sat up and looked down like he said only to see her hardened nipples poking through her bikini. "Is that all you look at?" She yelled at him, " Well it's not that bad, at least he notices me." She muttered to herself.
The ice bag began to drip down the side of her face, and she shivered slightly. She could hear the sound of his footsteps and the sound of his voice as he ordered two medium pizzas from the closest pizza place. Getting up she went into the kitchen to get a new bag. On her way she ran into Duo, frantically trying to scrub the grease from the glass with Kleenex. "This has to come off!" he complained.
She shook her head, "At least you're trying." She said, reaching into the cupboard under the sink retrieving a glass and paper towel. "Try this" she handed the objects to Duo looked up at her with eyes that begged her not to cut off his braid for lying. Hilde laughed, "Nah, the braid is way too sexy to cut off, I'll let it go this time." She smiled.
Duo looked at her and smiled, "Thanks" he grumbled, before he had to look away. She was just so hot! Sure he'd always thought she was, who wouldn't? With her big smiling blue eyes and deep indigo hair, her bright smile and her cheery personality, it made her the most desirable woman to him. If only she felt the same way about him. He sighed and decided he'd better get his mind off Hilde and on his cleaning so that his body temperature wouldn't get any higher.
Hilde stood before the open refrigerator directly behind Duo, "Want something to drink?" she asked him.
Duo tried to keep his eyes averted from her but even looking at the window he could see her bikini clad bottom swaying from side to side as she rummaged through the fridge.
Hilde felt his eyes on her, and it made her nervous. She'd been getting good at playing the 'no I only consider you as a friend' game with Duo but when she looked into those big violet eyes, she felt like a puddle of mush. She took a deep breath and looked at him over her shoulder she saw his burned back was to her but his eyes were watching her through the glass and composed herself. "Well do you want a drink?" she repeated, trying to ignore those eyes.
He heard her voice and snapped out of the dreamland where he and Hilde were together. "Huh? What? Uh, yeah! I'll have a coke." He said, hoping that was what she was asking.
Hilde nodded and reached into the fridge and threw him a pop can.
The doorbell rang and Duo stood up and his stomach growled. "Food!" he squeaked, rushing to the door with the money he had waiting on the countertop. A few minutes later Duo stepped into the kitchen carrying two pizza boxes on his hand like a pizza boy, chanting, "Yum for me, all for me." He passed Hilde and smiled, "None for you because you won't make me food!" he giggled.
Hilde shrugged her shoulders and reached into the drawer, pulling out a pair of scissors, "Have it you're way." She smiled maliciously.
Duo laughed nervously, "Well I guess you can have a slice," he watched her as she cut the air with the scissors, "Okay two." He placed the pizza boxes on the counter, and looked at the mess of grease on the window. "Lemme clean that first." He said and went back to wiping the grease with a Kleenex knowing that if he kept it up longer Hilde would take over.
He watched her through the glass, as she opened her pop can, took a sip and began to fix herself a salad. He eyed her from under the curve of his outstretched arm, and thought back to when all he'd thought of her was as a friend. He remembered when they first began to live together at 15, he'd thought she was cute and fun to be with but that was it, now he thought differently. Over the years they spent together Duo found himself more and more attracted to her. She had changed a lot since when they first met, she had grown a little taller, her chest had filled out, and her hair was a little longer, but she still smiled and made him laugh.
"Are you still using that Kleenex?" she whined, smacking him across the back of the head. "Duo sometimes you're really dumb."
Duo smiled and laughed under his breath as she took the cloth and cleaner and cleaned the window. He stretched out his arms and put the behind his head. "Nah! Not dumb, just…lazy." He laughed and dodged her balled up fist. "But you love me anyways right?" he smirked.
Hilde scowled, "You're no fair. It was your mess." Her stomach grumbled, "I'm stealing your pizza." She stood up and grabbed one of the two boxes from the counter.
"Hey! That's mine!" Duo protested, watching with horror as Hilde took a bit of the pizza.
"Then what are you waiting for, I don't want to be eating alone all night. Besides, it's not as hot as it was when you bought it." Hilde said, munching away at her slice of pizza sitting on the floor against the cupboards. "Why is it so hot?" she whined.
Duo moved closer to Hilde on the opposite side of the room and grabbed a slice of pizza, "Didn't you read the letter sent by the administrators of the colony a few days ago? They over loaded one of the temperature regulators and it went KABOOM!" He muttered not looking t her, "Those idiots, everyone knows that the temperature regulators can only take so much, but I'm guessing some people don't know that because it feels like we're on Venus." He said dryly wiping his mouth on his arm.
Hilde shook her head, "Nah, I didn't read it cause someone decided it would be okay to make little paper bats out of it. And color them black with little 'I am the best' in liquid paper." She watched Duo reach out for more pizza, laughing. "But I saw the envelope."
"Well it's true, I am the best!" he snickered. "Isn't that why you love me?" Duo swallowed hard and looked at the floor, not able to bring himself to look her in the eyes while she wore that tiny bikini.
"Yeah," she replied, staring at the floor. "Among other things." She said under her breath. She wanted to kiss him, she wanted to show him why she loved him and how much, but she could find the nerve, besides, they were only supposed to be friends.
They ate in silence for the next few minutes, neither able to say what they wanted to say, or bring themselves to look at the other for fear of not being able to hide the rush of emotions that would come flooding through their bodies, until Duo broke the silence. "Hey, remember when we used to go swimming at midnight when we first got the pool?"
"Kinda, yeah, why?" Hilde replied.
"You wanna do it again tonight?" He suggested, "It's gonna be hot."

"Aww, com'on please!!" he begged, "I don't want to look like a retard swimming all by myself, when I have a pretty lady inside."
"Duo we're working in the morning." Hilde said, "I can't."
"Babe, I own the shop, I can open it when I want." He stated haughtily. "It'll be fun. Please!" Shooting Hilde the best puppy dog eyes he could.
Hilde frown knowing that she'd just lost against him, "I'll be asleep by midnight, you know how I get in the summer heat, but when you go, just wake me up." She said. There was no way she could deny those big violet eyes and he knew it. Getting up she yawned, I'm gonna got watch TV. Clean up." She said, fixing her bottom and walking away.
Duo leaned his head back on the cupboard, "Tonight then babe." He said to himself, before cleaning up like Hilde asked.

After he cleaned up, Duo went into the living room only to find Hilde asleep with a damp cloth on her face and the television on. He laughed and knelt down beside her, pulling the cloth from her face. He softly traced the side of her face and sighed. "If only you were awake." He said, placing a light kiss on her cheek before gathering her in his arms and carrying her off to her room.
He lay her down on her bed, not bothering to pull up the covers. It was too hot and knowing her she'd probably kick them off anyways. He brushed her hair from her eyes and debated whether or not to wake her up in three hours for some fun in the water. "I'll let you sleep babe, you need the rest. We'll go some other time." He sat on the edge of her bed and watched for w while as she slept. Her face was so peaceful and childlike; you would never know that she was twenty. He stayed a few more minutes, until she let out a soft moan and began to move. Quickly he left the room afraid that she'd wake up and busied himself in front of the television with the air conditioning on high.
Around midnight Duo went into his room with the idea of changing into a pair of swimming trunks but decided not to since he was going to be the only on and the only neighbors they had were like down the street. He grabbed a towel from the bathroom passing Hilde's room on the way down the hall.
He stopped at the doorway of her room and looked inside. Hilde lay on her stomach with her head off the pillow and her mouth partially open. He noticed that she wasn't wearing the bikini top any longer, his eyes traveled over her small body and he realized she wasn't wearing anything at all. Hilde tossed and turned again and again on her bed Her room was becoming hotter and hotter and she heard the sound of sloshing water outside. Slowly she opened her eyes and stretched out her arms. "What the hell is that idiot doing outside at," she looked over her shoulder to the clock on the night table. "At 1:30 in the morning?" she got out of bed and walked to the window to look outside.
Since her room over looked the backyard she could see Duo swimming lap after lap of the pool. In the faint light of the streetlamps she could see he wasn't wearing any clothing, "Damn that guy's hot." She said. Running her hands through her hair she made a choice. "It's now or never." She told herself, grabbing a towel from the bathroom and wrapping it around her naked body.
Her training as an Oz soldier years before had taught her how to sneak up on a person and over the years she'd learned that with enough practice even a former Gundam pilot could be taken by surprise with a sneak attack, especially when they were busy. Duo jumped slightly, and grabbed his unknown attacker out of the water by the throat until he could spit out all the water he swallowed and kill them. When he opened his eyes he saw Hilde with eyes clenched shut and gasping for air. He promptly let go of her, and pulled her into his arms, "Christ Hilde what do you have some kinda death wish?" He grumbled.
Hilde frown, "I just wanted to surprise you, you didn't wake me up to come swim with you." She snuggled into his arms.
Duo smiled, "It's okay," he looked down at Hilde in his arms and realized she was still not wearing anything. Once again he felt himself get hard. He pushed her away and shook his head, before diving underwater to try and get rid of Little Duo. "I can't." he muttered.
Hilde watched Duo swim away from her, confused and saddened that he pushed her away. "Duo? What's wrong? What did I do?"
Duo came out of the water at the opposite end of the pool, "I can't Babe, it's not like it was before." He said, confusing Hilde even more.
Hilde swam over to Duo at the shallow end of the pool, "What's not the same? Duo what did I do?"
