-Heero POV-
/ I miss the look of surrender in your eyes
The way your soft brown hair would fall
I miss the power of your kiss when we made love
Oh but baby most of all
I miss my friend./
The way your soft brown hair would fall
I miss the power of your kiss when we made love
Oh but baby most of all
I miss my friend./
I don't know where it all starting going wrong. I mean it was a simple mission. To top it off it was a one person mission but at the last second they decided that there should be two people.
I should have been that second person but I was already out on assignment with Trowa doing some work for Une and the Preventers.
/The one my heart and soul confided in
The one I felt the safest with
The one who knew just what to say
To make me laugh again
And let the light back in
I miss my friend./
The one I felt the safest with
The one who knew just what to say
To make me laugh again
And let the light back in
I miss my friend./
Duo and I had been together 2 short years. The first year things were a little rocky but we made it through, and in the end, all that I have is Duo's hand writing in a note he left for me.
I suppose that I shouldn't be as mad as I am. I mean Quatre got called out on the last second, so Trowa never truly got to say his last goodbye.
-Flash back-
“When are you coming back?” asked Duo.
“I can't say. All the details are secret in this mission.” said Heero packing.
“You can't even give me the slightest hint?” asked Duo.
Heero stopped his packing and turned to face Duo with a raised eyebrow.
“Ok, gotta give a man some points for trying,” said Duo with his usual smile.
Heero turned back to packing all the things he would need.
Duo's smile faded once Heero went back to packing but then decided that he shouldn't let his koi just leave.
“There is one thing that I want to know, and that's how are we going to spend tonight?” asked Duo.
“Together,” said Heero in his matter of fact tone.
“Then, let's start…. now!” said Duo jumping Heero.
Heero could never understand how Duo managed to get into touching range without Heero noticing. Duo said that it was because Heero loved him so much. While Heero agreed with that, he also thought that it had to do with how much he trusted Duo.

-Trowa POV-
/I miss the colors that you brought into my life
Your golden smile, those blue-green eyes
And I miss your gentle voice in lonely times like now
Saying it'll be alright
I miss my friend./
Your golden smile, those blue-green eyes
And I miss your gentle voice in lonely times like now
Saying it'll be alright
I miss my friend./
I can't believe that we never truly got to say goodbye. I mean he wasn't even supposed to be on that fucking mission. OK, so maybe we did get to say goodbye last night, but that was over the phone and I mean, it just doesn't hold the same meaning as doing it to the other person's face.
Quatre, God how I love him, had insisted that I move in with him after the war. He was going to work with Preventers part time and do the family business thing part time also. The Preventers really only called Quatre in to work with one of us, Gundam pilots, when they were short handed.
Quatre meant the world to me. He taught me so much in the few short years we were together. Those years by the way totaled 5.
Quatre could always make me feel like I was the only person in the most crowded of rooms. He taught me that sometimes showing emotion could be the best thing in the world. He could always take the most down-in-the-dumps person and give them a comforting word or two. He had done this many times for me.
I hope that Quatre truly knew how much I love him.
-Flash back-
“Any idea as to when you will be back?” asked Quatre.
“No, Une never said. She just said that it would all depend on the mission,” said Trowa.
“Well, there's never any fighting the Preventers,” said Quatre. “I'll miss you.”
Trowa never could say what he wanted to, but that never seemed to matter with Quatre. Quatre always said he could feel it and read it in his eyes.
So Trowa was hoping at that point that Quatre was reading his eyes.
In the next minute, Quatre started crying, saying how much he'd miss Trowa, and how much he loved him. It was always like this before a mission though.
Trowa went over and hugged Quatre until the tears subsided and then they spent the last of the days light making love to each other and making promises for when Trowa would return.

-Heero POV-
/I miss those times
I miss those nights
I even miss our silly fights
The making up
The morning talks
And those late afternoon walks
I miss my friend./

The making up
The morning talks
And those late afternoon walks
I miss my friend./
Don't start thinking that it was all Roses and Poppy flowers. We had our fair share of fights or disagreements as Duo would say. I mean we're fucking Gundam pilots; of course tempers are going to flare.
It would usually end up with one or both of us admitting defeat or taking a walk till we could cool off, then we'd talk again.
There were times when I would set my internal alarm to wake up just a little before Duo so that I could see him sleeping. I loved those times.
Duo would wake after a little while and I would have this goofy grin that he says I get when ever I watch him sleep. Any way, Duo would wake up and then I'd usually have the not-so-random, random question for him.
Duo said he loved mornings when he could just wake up and we would talk. I think it helped remind him that he wasn't a Gundam pilot any more.
/The one my heart and soul confided in
The one I felt the safest with
The one who knew just what to say
To make me laugh again

The last message that Trowa and I got from them was, interesting.
-Flashback-
“Hey Q-man!” shouted Duo over the phone
“Hey Duo” said Quatre
“Want to join me tonight? I'm gonna order some pizza and soda and then sit around all night watching depressing movies,” said Duo.
“Sounds great. Say 7ish?” asked Quatre.
“Great!” shouted Duo. “I'll see ya then Q!”
Quatre was of course right on time that night and they did indeed order pizza and soda then watch movies.
About halfway through the second movie the phone rang.
*Ring!*
*Ring!* *Ring!*
Duo reached for the phone not paying attention to who it was on the other line.
“Yello!” said Duo.
“Duo?” asked the person.
“In the flesh!” said Duo.
“Duo, this is Une. I have an assignment for you,” said Une.
With that Duo's full attention was on the caller now.
“I'm ready,” said Duo.
“You'll leave tonight. Come by my office and I'll brief you,” said Une.
“Be there in a snap!” said Duo hanging up.
Duo turned to Quatre.
“Hey man, sorry but I gotta cut it short tonight. Just got called on a mission,” said Duo.
“That's ok Duo, I'll take a rain check then for when you get back,” said Quatre.
“Sure thing!” said Duo.
Quatre left and Duo ran around getting things ready so that he could leave.
Duo was packed in 5 minutes and then sat down and wrote a note to Heero in case he got back before him.
`Heero,
Got called on a mission. If you're reading this I'm not back yet and have no idea when I will be back. Sorry about the mess but had to leave the night you left.
Love you always,
Duo
Then Duo headed to the Preventers building.
Duo took the elevator up to Une's office and sat there waiting to be called in.
After what seemed like eternity, or maybe 10 minutes, to Duo he was called in.
“This is a simple blow up mission,” said Une.
“Awesome!” said Duo.
“What we want you to do is go into this building and get all the useful information that you can. Then blow it up so that the remains can't be used,” said Une.
Une handed Duo a folder with the blue prints of the building and all the important places marked off.
“Why am I blowing this up?” asked Duo.
“We have some informants that have told us that the information being collected in this building is being used to start another war. We want it destroyed so that this can not happen,” explained Une.
“Alrighty then,” said Duo.
“You have until sun rise. Then you will leave,” said Une. “There will be a vehicle at the front doors for you to use.”
“I'll be ready in half hour,” Duo said. “I'd rather go in with the cover of darkness.”
“Then tomorrow at sunset,” said Une.
“Deal,” said Duo.
Duo then headed down to a coffee lounge to read and memorize the papers that he was given.
As if on cue, right at sun set someone fetched Duo saying the car was ready.
Once down at the car, Duo saw Quatre.
“Q-man?” asked Duo.
“Yeah, heard that you needed help making things glow pretty colors, so they called me up,” Quatre explained.
“I defiantly don't need help making things go boom,” said Duo.
“Naw, I'm just here to get the good information and help where I can,” said Quatre.
“Cool!” said Duo.
Things went wrong from the start. The car they were using broke down half way there so they walked instead of losing the time it would take to make it work.
Once inside, Duo realized that they had packed the wrong explosives in the car. The one's he would have to use he'd have to plant twice as many and it would blow the building higher then the clouds.
“THAT'S THE LAST FUCKING TIME I LET ANYONE PACK FOR ME!” shouted Duo for the thousandth time.
Quatre and Duo had planned on meeting on the way out but once they got to their exit they found guards all around.
Intent on going out the back way then, they tried fighting their way out but there just seemed to be too many guards and they just kept coming.
In the end, Duo and Quatre were taken down by sheer number and exhaustion.
The guards dragged Quatre and Duo into a part of the building that Duo defiantly didn't remember from the blue prints.
“Quatre, you ok?” asked Duo.
“Yeah, you?” asked Quatre.
“Yeah,” said Duo.
“You still have the detonator?” asked Quatre.
“Yeah.” said Duo.
Quatre was always one for making out plans and had always been the one even during the wars.
“We going to blow this pop stand?” asked Duo.
“Yeah,” Quatre replied.
Duo knew what he meant: they would blow up with it.
Quatre started checking his pockets for something he remembered packing.
“Got it!” shouted Quatre.
“What is it?” asked Duo.
“It's a walkie talkie of sorts. Trowa has the twin,” Quatre explained.
Quatre turned on his end and prayed that he could get to Trowa.
“This is 04 speaking, 03 do you read?” asked Quatre.
After about 5 minutes, Quatre heard Trowa's voice.
“03 speaking,” said Trowa.
“Trowa, Duo and I are on a mission that's gone totally wrong, remember the files are in the unmarked name and we love you guys,” said Quatre.
“04, this is 01 explain,” said Heero.
“We have to go, we have to leave now. They're coming,” said Quatre.
Duo took the transmitter from Quatre.
“01, 02, I love you. Remember that,” said Duo.
With that the door to where Duo and Quatre opened and Duo hit the detonator button.
-End flashback-
-Heero POV-
The car is here now, I better go. I don't want to, but I know it would mean a lot to Duo. Today is their funeral.
We decided that they'd like to be together because that's how they died. Plus, it would mean a lot to all of us.
Trowa and I have bought the plots next to them for when we die. We never knew what that call was about until we heard the explosion. The mission was a success, they got all the information they needed and the building is gone.
We will never forget them.
- Car -
“Heero! Ready?!” shouted Trowa.
“Coming,” said Heero.
Heero went down into the car and gave Trowa a slight nod which Trowa returned. Then they were off to the funeral.
“Friends, family, co-workers and loved ones we are gathered here to remember 2 people today: Duo Maxwell and Quatre Winner. They will be missed…..”
