Ice and the Devil, Part 2

It would be a few days before Victoria and Chris would clash again. Her heeled sandals clicked on the tiled floor as she sat down in the pew that her family usually sat in at the church. She could see the Maxwells already there, sitting across the aisle. She turned her nose up at Chris when she spotted him looking at her. "I will ignore him," she said as she smoothed her light floral skirt over her knees.

Chris looked over at her. He tugged absently at his blue silk tie. He hated wearing the damn thing, but his mother insisted that he, his father, and his brothers wear one. He knew his dad hated them more then he did. She was ignoring him, or attempting to. He could see her looking back over at him out of the corner of her eye. He smirked knowingly.

She saw him smirking. She gritted her teeth. "Switch with me," she whispered to Veronica.

"Why?" Veronica asked as she glanced up at her sister.

"Because," Victoria hissed back.

Veronica leaned forwards a little. She saw Chris looking at Victoria. "Oh is that why?" she drawled quietly. "You know he is kind of cute."

"Shut up," Victoria growled at her sister as a slight blush came to her cheeks.

A smile crossed Veronica's face. "I think I'll stay here since the service is starting," she said as she looked forwards.

"Brat," Victoria muttered under her breath. She could still see Chris looking over at her.

Chris was enjoying the dirty looks that she was sending his way. He smiled more broadly at her. He felt an elbow in his ribs. He turned to look at his mother. "What?" he whispered.

"You know what," Hilde replied as she looked up at her son. "Stop whatever you're doing and pay attention," she whispered back.

"Yes, mom," he sighed resignedly as he snuck another look over at Victoria. He tugged on his tie again. He felt his mother's hand come up and pull his hand away from his tie.

She pulled his hand down until it was resting on the space between them. Hilde glanced back up at her son. She was amazed on how much he looked like Duo. She glanced the other direction at him.

Duo's finger tugged at his tie. He still hated wearing these things. He felt eyes on him. His eyes went to Hilde's. Her brow was arched at him. He lowered his fingers away from the tie.

Hilde raised her eyes heavenwards. "Men."

********************************************************** ********************

Even though his mother had reprimanded him, Chris stole glances over at Victoria. She looked pretty in that light pink sweater and floral skirt, but unlike his sister whose skirt was an inch or two above her knee; her skirt went down to mid calf. "Stop looking at her like that!? Like you want to kiss her," his thoughts teased him.The arguments in his head were only getting worse. He sighed as the service finally ended. He walked out into the aisle and came up against Victoria.

"Excuse you," Victoria snapped up at him

"Of course, bloodthirsty wenches first," he whispered to her as he stepped back and gave her a mocking bow.

"Jerk," she muttered back as she brushed past him.

Chris followed her out of the church. "You're supposed to refrain from name calling while in there," he said as he grasped her arm and turned her to face him.

"You started it by calling me a bloodthirsty wench. I have every right to call you a name that you so rightly deserve," Victoria snapped at him. She yanked her arm away.

"I thought I was a jackass in your eyes," Chris said with a wide grin.

"You are, but I couldn't very well say that to you in church!" she growled at him.

He leaned down even closer to her face. "How unfortunate for you," he whispered as he chucked her under the chin.

Victoria blinked a few times with his face being that close to hers. She could see her reflection in the cobalt depths. "Screw you," she hissed.

Chris dared to press his nose against hers. "Tsk, tsk, Victoria. We were just in church."

She bit her tongue. She wanted to strike him, but she couldn't with all these people around. She knew their families wouldn't care. "And how fortunate for you that I can't kill you in public," she said in a deceptively sweet tone as one of the heads of state walked by them. She was determined not to embarrass herself out in the open.

"And I could always kiss you to stop you," he countered smoothly. "What are you doing? Flirting and enjoying it. Why are you doing it? I have absolutely no idea," he thought as the words tumbled over each other in his mind.

A blush ran up her cheeks, encompassing her whole face. "You…you…you…" Victoria sputtered indignantly. "You should just kiss him to shut him up. It would certainly shock him. And its not like you wouldn't enjoy it. Stop it!"

"You look so nice in pink, ice princess," Chris chuckled and leaned away from her. "I'll see you at dinner tonight," he said as he turned and walked away. He smiled as he walked over to the black Suburban, where most of his family was waiting.

"Do you have a death wish?" Jonathon asked as he finally took his gray tie off.

"Only with her," Chris replied as he took his tie off as well. "She makes it too easy."

"I don't think Heero liked that," Hilde pointed out as she leaned against Duo.

"I didn't kiss her, didn't really touch her. Just made her mad," Chris said as he looked over his shoulder at Heero. He was glaring in his direction.

"He didn't think so," said Randy as she walked up, accompanied by Miles. His hand was resting on her shoulder.

"I don't think any father would like any guy touching their daughter," Duo said pointedly as he looked at Miles. "Especially when they know what is going through that guys head."

Miles whipped his hand off Randy's shoulder. "See you later," he said as he dashed off.

"And I guess they're also meant to scare off guys too," Randy said wryly as she watched Miles run off.

"Well I'm not doing anything to her that I wouldn't normally do," said Chris with a shrug.

"Just pissing her off," David said with a laugh.

"Come on, your mom and sister have to start making dinner for tonight," said Duo as he opened the passenger side door. He helped Hilde in.

"And what about you mister," said Hilde as she looked at him. "What will you be doing?" she asked pointedly.

"I guess I'll help," Duo said quickly.

"That's what I thought," answered Hilde as she closed the door.

Duo breathed out a sigh of relief. He looked over at his kids, who were holding back their laughter. "Go on, laugh and get in," he grumbled.

Randy smiled and wrapped her arms around her dad's waist. "Don't worry dad, it's always better to be safe then sorry."

Duo smoothed his hand over her midnight hair. 'I know, go on get in."

"Dad, what would you do if Miles kissed me?" Randy asked as she looked up at him.

"Break his legs," Duo replied as he looked at her.

"That's what I thought you might say," Randy said as she got into the car.

Duo rolled his eyes. "Kids," he said as he got in as well and drove off.

******************************************************************* ***********

Victoria was still fuming when she walked over to where her father and mother were waiting. "Dad, give me your gun that I know you're carrying?"

"Why?" asked Heero as he looked at her.

"Because, I'm going to kill Chris with it," she replied flatly as she crossed her arms.

"You're carrying a gun?" Relena asked as she looked at him. "I thought I told you, not to church."

"Habit," Heero replied as he pressed a kiss on top of his wife's hair. He looked back at his daughter. "What did he do this time?" he asked.

"You would kill him if I told you and I want to be the one to kill him," Victoria replied hotly.

"You're just bent out of shape because he said he'd kiss you to keep you from killing him," Veronica replied as she walked over and smirked at her sister.

"How did you hear?" Victoria sputtered at her younger sister.

"Easy, I was walking not ten feet behind you and when you stopped, so did I," Veronica said cheekily.

"Kiss you?" was all Heero got.

"Dad, breathe," said Veronica as she noted her father's face beginning to turn red.

Heero took a deep breath to calm himself. "And you shouldn't give him reason to say things like that Vicky," he said. His eyes stared into hers.

Victoria returned her father's look. "I'll do whatever I have to," she snorted as she looked over at Chris and his family.

Heero looked over too and glared at the oldest Maxwell son. "This is starting to get out of hand. It won't take much more. They are so much like Duo and Hilde. Both stubborn. They'll fight whatever feelings they do have. I don't know if I even like the idea of my daughter and the oldest Maxwell. But he better not do anything like his father did with his mother before they were married or I might have to deprive Duo of a son."

Victoria flounced to the car and slammed the door. She sat in the back with her arms crossed. "Damn you, Maxwell. For getting under my skin! Not like you would mind," she thought. "What's that supposed to mean?" her voice asked, puzzled. "Of course, it's exactly what you're thinking! You're thinking what it would be like to really kiss him and lose yourself in it!" her one voice said matter of factly. " Will you stop it!" the other voice hissed angrily. "Nope, and don't deny it! The thought of him kissing you would make you weak!" She growled silently in frustration. Her mind had been waging a war with itself for the past few weeks. And as time went on, her resolve was beginning to weaken just a little. "I would rather die first then admit anything! How typical of a Yuy to contemplate death before admitting anything! Coward!" Her manicured nails dug into her palms. She would fight it. She wasn't going to give in. Ever.

****************************************************************** ************

Chris lay in the hammock stretched between two of the trees in the backyard. He was staring up into the endless blue sky. He didn't notice the approach of his sister until she gave it a push.

"Hey, braid boy," Randy said as she leaned over him. "Dinner is almost ready and the others will be arriving soon."

He looked up at his sister. "Is that so, brat," he replied as he took in what she was wearing. "You're really going to attract Miles attention in that. Are you sure trying to get him killed? You know how dad feels about you and dating," he said as he closed his eyes.

She smoothed her hands over her bright red tank top with cutoff shorts. "I know. That's the entire point. If Miles really wants me, he'll keep on braving dad's nasty looks and death threats," she said as she turned on her bare heel and went back inside the house.

"Hell hath no fury like an angry God of Death," Chris said under his breath as he thought of his dad's temper. And with Randy being the only girl and the baby, the protective streak in his dad came out full force. "Miles is going to have a hell of a time getting to her. He already has two marks against him. He's three years older then her and he chases anything in a skirt. And dad is going to have a hard time in making sure that Randy doesn't do anything she's not supposed to."

"Oh, Chris, your favorite girl is here," Randy yelled as she stuck her head out the kitchen door.

He raised his head to look at her. "You're point being?" he asked.

"You know," she replied knowingly as she ducked back into the kitchen with her parents.

*************************************************************** ***************

Victoria walked out on the deck off of the Maxwell's family room. She spotted Chris lying in the hammock. A nasty little thought entered her mind. She walked down the steps and onto the soft green grass. She looked over him. His eyes were closed. Her hands closed around the edge of the hammock and began to pull it up. A hand shot out to grab her wrist.

"I don't think so, princess," Chris said as he looked up at her. He saw an irate expression come over her face.

She growled and tried anyway. "Go to hell!" she snapped. Unfortunately it didn't work out as she planned.

He yanked her forwards as the hammock tipped over, sending them both to the ground. With him on top. "This is new," he said as he leaned up on his elbows to look down at her. She looked shocked, surprised, and still angry. He grinned thinking of her lush body under his for the moment.

Victoria clenched her teeth. She felt his weight pressing down on hers. "Get off me!" Her cheeks flared with color because she was beginning to like his weight on top of her.

Chris noticed. "This makes you nervous doesn't it?" he asked as a smirk crossed his face. "I'll say it's one of the better positions I've seen you in."

Her face flared with even more color. "You lecher! Get off of me!" she said as she tried to move. She couldn't. His weight was keeping her from moving.

He noticed that too. Every part of him noticed. "And if I don't?" he countered smoothly, trying to calm his hormones down. They were being stubborn and were refusing to listen. .

"I'll punch you hard enough to make you see stars," Victoria replied hotly as she glared up at him. There was a look in his eyes. She didn't know whether or not to be afraid and get away from him as fast as possible or stay and find out more.

"Not if I kiss you first," Chris said with a wicked smile.

Her eyes went wide. "Don't even try it," she warned as she put her hands against his chest. Just imagining him kissing her, made her insides turn to putty. She had to stop him before he did.

He did anyway. He kissed her. He felt her fingers curl into the front of his black shirt. That mouth of hers was as delicious as he remembered.

As soon as his lips touched hers, the fight went out of her. She didn't know why, but she didn't want to leave the warmth of his arms holding her against him and the feel of his lips moving over hers. Granted that she hadn't been kissed all that often, this kiss was making up for the lack of thereof. "What are you doing? Stop it!" She moved her lips against his, getting hopelessly lost. She willingly parted her lips under his.

Chris felt her weakening. And what he had intended as an insult became something else entirely when she parted her soft lips under his. He slipped his tongue into her mouth, stroking gently. "You're signing your death warrant!" He blocked out his mind and concentrated on kissing her. She was spice with a touch of innocence. He liked it. He liked it a lot.

Victoria was in a haze. She never felt like this. Her body was on fire. She shifted her leg, resting her sandaled foot on his calf. "So this is what it means to really be kissed."

*********************************************************** *******************

Randy came out on the deck, putting the bowl of corn on the cob on the table. Her eyes fell on the couple, lying on the grass, completely oblivious of what was going on around them. Her mouth dropped open and she clapped her hand over her mouth. She ran back inside. "You two have to see this," she said as she pulled Jonathon and David out with her. She pointed to the grass.

Jonathon bit his lip to keep back the laughter.

David shoved his fist against his mouth to hold back his.

"What are you guys…" Duo trailed off when he got an eyeful of what his kids were staring at and trying not to laugh. Chris was kissing the daylights out of Victoria. And it didn't look like it would be stopping anytime soon. He stepped down off the deck and walked over to them. He knew if Heero caught them, his son would be lucky to escape with his life intact. He reached down and tugged on Chris's braid.

***************************************************************** *************

Chris felt tugging. He lifted his lips from Victoria's and looked up. He saw his dad looking down at them with raised brows. Realization on what he had been doing hit him. "Shit," he said as he pushed away from her.

Victoria's face flooded with color when she saw Duo looking down on her. She sat up and scooted away from Chris. She wiped the back of her hand across her lips. "Dammit!" she hissed at herself. She looked back up at Chris. "You…you…" she sputtered as she scrambled up and away from him. "So rationality finally returned! You were kissing Chris! Baka girl! Stupid, stupid, stupid! Stop saying that!" she argued with herself. Without really thinking of her actions, she hauled off and punched him in the jaw. "That's for kissing me! And if you try it again, I'll shoot you!" she snapped as she ran past the three Maxwells on the deck into the house.

He rubbed his jaw where she had hit him. "Damn, she packs quite a wallop," he muttered. He heard his dad clear his throat. He bit his lip and looked up. "Yeah, dad?"

"You would have been dead if it hadn't been me," Duo replied shortly as he looked down at his son. "You were lucky," he said as he offered his hand to Chris.

Chris grasped his dad's hand and stood up. "Guess I was."

"What were you thinking?" Duo asked as they walked up to the deck.

"If I knew dad, I would tell you. But I don't. I was supposed to be proving a point, but that kind of went out the window," Chris replied as he scratched the back of his head. He was insane and he knew it.

"Well next time, don't do it out on the lawn where you'd be caught. And pray that Heero never finds out," Duo sighed as he clapped his son on his shoulder.

"Well if it was Miles kissing Randy like that, what would you've done?" Chris asked as he turned to look at his dad.

Duo gritted his teeth. "Miles wouldn't be living. So keep that in mind when you think of kissing Heero's daughter," he warned as he went back inside the house.

"That was quite a show, Chris," Jonathon snickered.

"Yeah, quite a show," David laughed as he leaned against the deck railing.

Chris glared at his two brothers. "Either of you say anything about this, I'll kill you both slowly," he growled.

"Well you should think of that before making out on the lawn," Randy giggled as she tossed her ponytail over her shoulder.

Chris turned his eyes to his little sister. "And if you say anything, I'll make you very sorry," he warned.

Randy stuck her tongue out at him before flouncing back into the house.

Chris fell into the deck chair and raked his hands through his bangs. "I'm in deep shit, if Heero finds out."

****************************************************************** ************

Dinner seemed to progress smoothly enough. Victoria and Chris weren't even looking at each other. And Randy couldn't help but notice and start in on Victoria. "You know Vic, you look so nice in pink," she said casually as she tore a strip of chicken off the drumstick with her fingers.

Victoria's face went red. "Shut up, brat!" she hissed from across the table.

"Well you do. You wear it better then I could of course," Randy said as she gave Victoria a wicked grin.

"You wonder why," Victoria snapped back. "You would look better with a scarlet letter."

It was Randy's turn to flush with color. "At least I don't make out in public," she hissed back.

"Randy," Chris said in a low voice as he cast a surreptitious look in Heero's direction.

Victoria caught the look her father sent her. "You little bitch," she growled at Randy.

"Sucks when a Maxwell is right, doesn't it, ice princess," Randy said sweetly.

Victoria picked her glass of water up and tossed it in Randy's face. "Go to hell!"

Randy's eyes narrowed as water dripped off the tip of her nose. She picked up her glass and threw it in Victoria's face.

That made Victoria snap. She pushed back her chair and went around the table.

Randy stood up as well.

"Here we go again," Miles, said as he turned around to watch.

Victoria grabbed a hold of Randy's ponytail and yanked hard.

Randy elbowed Victoria in the ribs.

And Victoria balled up her fist to punch Randy, when she felt someone's tight grip on her wrist. She looked up into Chris' s eyes. They were icy cold with anger.

"Don't hit my sister," Chris snapped at her.

"Why shouldn't I, the little brat deserves it!" she growled.

"She's my sister and I'll deal with her. Not you," he growled back. "So I suggest, ice princess that you go back to your side of the table and stay there," he stressed as he stood between her and his sister.

Victoria punched him instead. "I HATE YOU!" she yelled into his face.

"Good for you," Chris yelled back rubbing his jaw, where she managed to punch him for the second time. He picked her up and carried the kicking and screaming Victoria to the pool, dumping her in.

Duo's head fell into his hands. "This is not good," he groaned.

Chris turned to look over at Randy. "If I were you, I would start running," he threatened.

Randy paled a little.

"You're not going to do anything to your sister," Duo warned in a low voice. "I'll talk to her later."

Chris glared at his sister, but turned his attention to an angry Victoria. "You don't go after my sister. You go through me first," he hissed.

"Then you better curb your sister's wayward tongue," Victoria shot back, seething with anger. "But I can always deal with you," she said as she gave him a push, making him fall into the pool. "Touch me again and you'll wish you hadn't," she said as she stalked off.

Chris surfaced and watched her leave. "Damn woman."

**************************************************************** **************

Heero watched his daughter come back up to the deck. She looked mad enough to kill. "Are you all right?" he asked as he shot a look over at Chris, climbing out of the pool.

"I'm fine," Victoria replied tightly. "Just wet," she said as she looked over at Chris.

Heero smoothed some of Victoria's wet hair off her face. "Go on inside with your mother and Hilde and get cleaned up some," he said as he gently pushed her in the direction of the kitchen.

"Come on dear," said Relena as she grasped onto her daughter's arm and pulled her along with her. She had seen that look in Victoria's eyes. She had seen that look in Heero's before. It made it look like hell froze over.

Hilde went and grabbed a towel from the linen closet and went back downstairs to the kitchen, where Victoria was with Relena. She had seen the looks that had passed between Chris and her. It made the atmosphere chill considerably. And the warning tone in Duo's voice when Chris had threatened Randy. "Here you go," she said as she handed Victoria the towel.

"Thank you," Victoria said as she wiped her face with it. She looked up at Hilde. One could see where Randy got her looks and brains. Personality wise, was Duo Maxwell through and through.

*************************************************************** ***************
The rest of the evening, Chris spent the time in the lawn chair, far away from everyone.

Victoria sat inside on the couch, wrapped in a blanket as Hilde dried her clothes.

Randy got reprimanded by Duo and went to lay in the hammock and sulk.

Duo felt like he was going to go crazy with what was going on.

Heero was mad that Chris tossed his daughter in the pool.

And Hilde and Relena were apprehensive on what was going on between their two children.

************************************************************** ****************

Chris stared out across the landscape. He could see clear to the other side of the cliff from where his house stood. You're an idiot, you know. She'll just try another way to kill you. And that's if you give her the chance. Heero finds out your mouth was touching hers, Victoria will be the least of my worries. It's obvious that you're highly attracted to each other, that's why you two can't keep your hands off of her. You have to give her credit though. She always gives as good as she gets. She's basically the perfect woman for you. Hell, you might even be in love with her," he thought. He snorted. "Right. Victoria and me. We would kill each other first."

Victoria closed her eyes and tilted her head back against the couch. "You give Randy one inch, she'll torture you all night. You played right into the brat's hands. She was doing it on purpose and of course he prevents me from doing anything to her. Those Maxwells are so damn clannish. But that insufferable clod better keep his hands off of you if he knew what was good for him. But then again, that boyish charm of his, does have an appeal. He's not afraid of you, which should tell you something. He's definitely a keeper for some lucky girl. And if you play your cards right, it could be you since you're almost in love with the braided baka," she thought. "Hardly, I couldn't be in love with him," she muttered under her breath. But she couldn't ignore that thought that she just might either.

Getting hotter…
