Years after the Eves war the Gundam pilots had all gone their own ways, Chang Wufei worked for the Preventers, Quatre Raberba Winner became president of Winner Enterprises Inc. , Trowa Barton went back to the circus, Heero Yuy became Foreign Minister Darlian's personal body guard and no one really knew what happened to Duo Maxwell after he left the scrap yard to his best friend Hilde.

Once Duo had given the scrap yard to Hilde he went to earth and into the wilderness (AN ^.^* I couldn't think of anything better) and had yet to come out. But this information was known by no one but himself.

Duo had just sat in his favorite hammock and started staring up at the slowly darkening sky.

`If ……… it's a funny thing, I mean if I didn't sit here I'd be over there probably, and in my opinion, if they hadn't wanted the new space shuttle to be ready before everything was checked then it might not have blown up in launch sequence, and if Quatre hadn't been the only boy in his family then he wouldn't be head of WEI. But my favorite is, if I had told Heero how I felt about him then maybe just maybe he wouldn't be with the pink bitch and maybe I wouldn't be here, but then again if I didn't come here I wouldn't be thinking about this,' he thought to himself as he stared up at the tiny lights that were stars beginning to appear in the sky as it gradually got darker.

"And because I'm here I don't have to pretend to be happy like I did when I was with the guys and Hill, but then again I was happy when I was around Heero……… Damnit Duo don't think like that you're free of that stupid mask…… I can be who I wanna be out here!" he said to himself this time out loud.

Heero had just gotten off duty and was walking to his apartment when he heard someone in the distance scream `if'.

`Heh heh, if, it's a funny thing, I mean if I hadn't decided to work as Relena's bodyguard then I'd be free to look for Duo……. I know he's gone but can't find him. Another if would be, if I had told Duo how I felt then maybe I wouldn't be living in this mess of a life……… but then again I believe that Duo is straight, I mean he used to hit on girls all the time…… then again he hit on everybody. Duo……… god I miss him.' Heero thought as he walked into his apartment.

"Duo you were the only light in my otherwise pitch black life and the all of a sudden you left and now I'm in the dark again," Heero sighed to himself as he booted up his laptop to continue his never ending search for Duo, the only thing he knew for sure was that he had left L2 and came to earth but other than that he knew nothing.

"If……"
