Prologue

Zechs and Treize looked at each other, shaking their heads. They knew that the new rule for the underclassmen was a good idea in theory, but it still posed some possible complications. While the majority of the students were already enrolled in the adjoining high school, there were at least 4 transfer students to the boarding school and they would need to get some information on the different candidates they had to choose from as a new roommate. Mentoring a freshman wouldn't be so bad and they both knew it could assist the students in making their academic career a success. However, Zechs and Treize were not your average high school upperclassmen. They were a couple, a male couple.

While both boys were quite popular, being excellent students, members of the student council and in various sports, having a new roommate that would not appreciate their sexual preference could cause a lot of conflict that they simply did not want.

Heero approached his two friends noticing the slightly uncomfortable looks that they had. "Don't freak out too much over this. I will do some research on the new kids and see what I can find out for you." He offered.

Zechs smiled. He knew that Heero loved finding out secrets and even traded in information occasionally. Nothing gave the other boy more pleasure than getting all the dirt, so to speak, on someone, except maybe his martial art tournaments. "What's the cost?"

"Well…" Heero considered, "If everything works out at the end of the semester for the person I pick as your roommate than you guys have to buy me dinner and some new throwing knives."

Treize nodded in agreement. Zechs held out his hand and shook on the deal. "We trust you. You know what is necessary better than anyone else."

Zechs grinned. "Definitely, you should study psychology. Of course, the military would probably find your skills pretty useful too. We have to run to get ready for class. So we'll see you around."

"Hey Kit, your taxi is here." Kit's mom yelled up the stairs at him as he packed away the rest of his necessary things before dragging the two duffel bags down to the front door and slipping on his shoes.

He hugged his mom goodbye and got in the cab, speeding away to his new school.

Kitsune's father was Japanese, while his mother was English; he had spent most of his years in England attending a highly rated public school. He pondered on the recent changes in his life. Glad to get away from his old environment and the hurt that went with it, but leery of what his future held in a new place.

His father, Taro and his mother Beth, had been considering the move for a long time when they had received offers to teach at the prestigious Tokyo University School of Medicine. They had put off deciding on the offer until that incident occurred.

Kitsune's boyfriend had gotten drunk or high and in an angry fit beat and raped the younger boy. Forcing him into the degrading situation of being used by another that he had thought was his friend. He had to go the emergency room that night to have his shoulder reset and his sprained wrist and ankle wrapped. It had taken weeks for the bruises to disappear. The boyfriend had tried to apologize a few times but when Kit would do nothing but walk away from him, he had punched the other boy and tackled him threatening to choke him. Kit's parents filed charges for both assaults and Kit has to testify in court, relieving every humiliating minute in front of jury and judge. Embarrassed by his own sexuality and the brutality he had faced in a world that did not readily accept homosexuality. His ex-boyfriend got 6 years in prison, as did his other abuser.

Kit's family decided it would be best to move far away. They accepted the offers to teach at the University and after some consideration they enrolled Kitsune in his father's alma mater. A school that was well-known for its academic and fine arts programs. It was also a boarding school. Kitsune's psychologist felt that he needed to be exposed to a social environment that did not involve his parents and put him back into contact with his peers. He had become shy, skittish and untrusting after his ordeal and his psychologist was all for the tough-love scenario. Also known as, if you fall off the horse get back on.

The ride out to the school was quite long. Kitsune's mind drifted over the outburst from his sister the day he returned from the hospital. Her disgust and anger at his sexual preference, her total lack of sympathy for his pain, her horrible attitude had in many ways been more of a betrayal than how his ex had treated him. His own sister, who was supposed to love and support him and turned her back on him and condemned him just because he was more attracted to guys than girls. He sighed holding back the tears, he thought they were closer than that. He supposed he was wrong and was glad that she had stayed in England at University.

The taxi drove him into a busy section of the city and pulled through a set of huge gates into what appeared to be a massive complex. The city had apparently been built around the school over time. The campus was pretty with well-manicured lawns, large old trees and stately buildings.

He pulled his bags out of the trunk of the taxi and climbed the steps into the administration building. Trying not to let the feeling of panic overwhelm him at being in the grand hall. It reminded him to much of the courthouse back in London and he shuddered at the thought. The receptionist made a quick call on her phone and told him someone would be right down to help him get situated. Then she looked through the new student files on her desk and handed him a folder. "This is your schedule and temporary room assignment. You will be assigned a permanent room with at least one upperclassman mentor sometime this week." She smiled at thim absently before going back to her work.

Someone wearing a uniform with a name tag approached him. "Hi, my name is Kouga and I am here to welcome you to Mt. Holy Leaf School. If you would like I can show you to your temporary room and give you a tour of the campus."

"Sure, that would be fine." Kitsune answered feeling like a deer caught in the headlights. The other boy's hair was a little wild and caught up in a pony tail high on his head, he obviously spent a lot of time outdoors as his skin had a healthy tan. Nothing like Kitsune's own pale skin and straight shiny black hair that hung down his back nearly to his waist.

Kouga's dark brown eyes met Kitsune's deep blue eyes in a warm smile. "I heard that you are from England? You have such interesting features. I think it would be fun to try and draw you sometime."

"OH, thank you." Kitsune blushed as they walked through the building and out a side door. "My mother is English and blond with blue eyes while my father is Japanese. I suppose I just got lucky in the genetics lotto. Although I think my face is to small and girly looking. It runs in my father's family I guess." He shrugged.

"Yeah, but I bet you will have to beat off the girls with a stick." Kouga stated, noticing the slight look of disgust on Kitsune's face as he started to point at various building on their way across campus.

Kouga, observed his little rookie with the eyes of a hawk. He wanted to discover as much as possible about the new boy's personality before helping Heero with the room assignments. The Boys Dean had told him that this one would need some special considerations as he had been through some traumatic experiences recently and might have trouble adjusting to the school as well as living with other boys. While the Dean had not gone into any details beyond that, Kouga and Heero both figured that this was worth looking into.
