"He's a fast learner." Sally said as she flipped through Heero's notebook.

“You noticed." Duo replied

" How could I not, his progress is incredible, I mean his grammar skills
have evolved from about a six year olds to collage level in just under a month!"

“I know it's just..."
Duo sighed and looked over at Heero who was sitting in front of the T.V
flicking the ash off of a cigarette in to a glass of water.

"Just what?" Sally asked placing a cup of tea in front of Duo.

“It's just he's been here for almost a month and he still can't tell me
who his father is or where he came from, I can't find one record on a
seventeen year old boy by the name of Heero Yuy any where, no birth records,
no school records, not even a vaccination record, and no one
has reported a missing boy fitting his description.

“Maybe the father is waiting it out."

“Nani!?"

“Maybe Heero is not his real name or the father is waiting for Heero to
turn eighteen when he's an adult the charges won't hold up as well."

“Ya know I think you have some thing there, I'll check and... wait a sec."
The phone that rested n the table to Duo's left began to ring, so the

Chestnut haired man turned to answer it.

“Hello?"

“Hi, Duo!"

“Quatre! It's great to hear from ya, how's Trowa? "

“He's good, listen I got a surprise for you, we have business
in your neck of the wood and we'll be up there in two days."

“That's wonderful news, I've really missed you guy's."

“That's not the best part; we won't have any other business till the
first of the year so we'll be able to stay for a while."

“You don't mean?!"

“Yep we'll be there for Christmas."

“That's great, Quatre." Sally shouted into the speaker phone.

“Hi, Sally!” Quatre called back, and then said. “Oh Duo, I just remembered. I was looking over that case you e-mailed to me and I think I found a lead, I'll bring the file up with me.”

“Okay, Quatre I'll see you in a few days."

“Bye, Duo, Sally, we look forward to seeing you all and Heero too, bye."

Duo hung up and turned to a beaming Sally.

“It'll be great seeing them again,” he said

"Yes it will, and the time couldn't be better, Christmas.”

Sally said wistfully then glanced down at her watch noting the time to be nearly 10pm. “Oh gomen hon, I got to go. Tomorrow's the big day!" She said hurrying to the living room and grabbing her coat.

“Bye, Duo." she called across the room, Heero smiled up at her as she kissed
his cheek then waved good-bye as she left.

Duo walked across the room and sat next to Heero, taping his shoulder gently to gain his attention. The deaf boy turned and smiled up at Duo.

“Come on buddy, time for bed. Sally wants to get the prep work for your operation done first thing in the morning.”

Heero nodded and rose to his feet, dropping the cigarette butt into his new ashtray as he moved around the coffee table, where his books lay. He looked down at Duo who continued to sit on the sofa and a soft smile crept onto his lips, very slowly he leaned down and kissed Duo's cheek softly.

The American man's eyes grew impossibly large causing the Japanese youth to smirk to himself as he strolled to his bedroom.

The next morning went by in a blur, both men had over slept and were rushing to get to the clinic where Sally was waiting. She wanted to get the scans and x-rays of Heero's ears done in the morning so the operation could be done later in the day.

It was an out patient operation, meaning Heero could go home after the anisetic wore off and any signs of infection were treated.

The boys arrived a few minutes late but Sally was not angry with them, she simply ushered them into an exam room, left Heero with a gown saying that she would be back soon.

Heero changed quickly, the excitement of the day was still bubbling inside of him and he was eager of the outcome of the operation. He wanted to hear, but knew that if the operation failed he still had Duo, he could be happy. And he knew that Duo was interested in him on an intimate level Duo had been looking at him differently all morning.

Even now he would have to be blind to miss the fact that Duo was sneaking a peek as he changed. Smirking to himself he dropped his pants and slipped the gown on over his boxers. He had just sat down on the table when Sally returned.

“All set?” She asked

“Yep.” Duo replied as he folded Heero's clothes and placed them on a chair.

“Great, lets get those scans done.”

She led Heero down the hall to x-ray and waited as the radiologist took the scans. After the scans were completed Heero was taken back to his room, while Sally and another Doctor who would be helping with the operation examined the x-rays.

The waiting seemed like years but when Sally finally returned she had good news, the operation could be done today.

Duo waited in a waiting room while Heero was in surgery, he paced the floor and read out dated magazines for the entire two hours it took fir the operation to be completed. A nurse kept him updated, every half an hour but he could not help the worry that nagged at him.

Finally Sally arrived and said that every thing went as planned and if there were no complications in the next few hours, Heero could go home.

Duo slumped down onto a chair relief washing over him. Sally chuckled and offered to take him to Heero's room her self. Duo nodded and followed the Doctor down the hall.

The American man entered the room and approached the bed quietly. Heero lay still, his eyes closed. Thick gauze covering both of his ears, thin plastic tubes leading from his ears were taped down along his jaw line on either side of his face.

“They are for drainage.” Sally stated when she noticed where Duo's gaze had rested. “if any fluid collects in his ears it could cause an infection.”

“Thanks, Sal. For all your help. Both you and Wufei.” Duo said softly

“No problem hun, “ Sally reassured pulling the braided man into a loose embrace. “now, sit your butt down, keep an eye on him and page me when he wakes up.

Nodding, Duo sat in the chair next to Heero's bed and waited.

Heero woke an hour or so latter, groggy and thirsty, Duo paged Sally and then helped Heero with his drink. By the time the Japanese youth had finished his water Sally had arrived, clipboard in hand.

After gaining the boy's attention she asked him a few questions, pertaining to how he felt, once she gained all the information she needed she told him to rest for a few more hours.

When no complications arose after four hours, she let Heero go home. His head hurt and he really did not feel well but he wanted to go home more. He had never wanted to go home before but now, with Duo he felt like he had a family and a home. For the first time in his life he was happy.
