Gundam Wing Fan Fiction ❯ Life Is Pain ❯ Notes! ( Chapter 7 )

LiP: Notes
Okay--um, this is kind of a little notes section for this fic, mainly because I remembered something I didn't explain earlier.
1) This whole thing is set in an alternate universe. (DUH!! If it wasn't, then the dead wouldn't suddenly be walking around, now would they?!) It's kind of in the same time period as the series, but not really. I mean--Okay, Relena owns a castle, complete with dungeons. The pilots live in a mansion (of sorts).
Magic exists in four classifications: Necromancy (dealing with the dead), Geomancy (dealing with the earth), Vitamancy (dealing with life), and Sociomancy (dealing with people [big groups of people, not just one person]).
There are many classifications of power too: hedge-witch (not a lot of power), witch or journeyman [male AND female] (mediocre power-wise), sorcerer [sorceress] or master (pretty damn powerful), wizard or adept (so powerful you don't wanna mess with), and deity-class (more power than should be possible in one person). You don't find deity-class often.
(I'm borrowing from two different things on that: Mercedes Lackey and her specs, and my own personal terminology. [If anyone corrects me on the types of magic, I will *not* be thrilled.])
2) Descriptions of "my" girls. Since I'm having a bit of a hard time keeping them from shifting characters on me, I figured I'd set it down in stone.

2) Descriptions of "my" girls. Since I'm having a bit of a hard time keeping them from shifting characters on me, I figured I'd set it down in stone.
Akabri--In life, she was a vampire. A pretty powerful one at that. She died after getting shot by an energy cannon that literally tore her body apart. There was nothing to raise except for her spirit. She is 5'11, very dark skinned, and very strong. (Being a vampire, it's kinda natural.) Her eyes are gold. (Think golden jewelry.) She is essentially the leader of the "group", being the one who remembers the most. She is, by far, very intelligent. She no longer drinks blood, but seeing her fangs is a potent reminder that she could. Her long, black hair hangs down to her waist in several tiny braids. She doesn't actually remember when she was born. She prefers to wear anything white, with pants.
Sköll--In life, she was a warrior and vampire hunter (ironic, ne?). Impulsive and impetuous, she nearly got killed several times before actually meeting her maker. (It was a freak accident with an elevator. Since then, it's become her phobia.) In essence, she is the 'muscle' of the five. She is the tallest, at 6'1, with darkly tanned skin that almost seems unnatural. Her white-blonde hair is shoulder length, as that is the most convenient length for her. Her violet eyes have been the last thing many people saw before they died. Often told that she has a 'sixth sense', she is far quicker than most people. Her favorite clothes are very bright, or black, with leather being a main component in her wardrobe.
Ierne--In life, she was a scholar of the old myths. Gentle and nonthreatening, she broke many hearts. As the shortest of the group, 5'3, she often is faced with being overlooked. However, when there is a full moon, she changes from a demure, pale redhead into a sleek, dark grey panther. (The dark grey, she once said, hid her better in shadows than being black.) Her steel-grey eyes often seem to delve into one's soul in order to help comfort. Still possessing a thirst for knowledge, she has been known to spend outrageous amounts on books. She died from a bullet to the heart, the result of the anger of one of her former admirers. Since then, she has refused to even talk about guns. She and Chen-xia became lovers long before they care to admit. She prefers to wear very feminine skirts and blouses, only changing into jeans when absolutely necessary. (She hates getting dirty.)
Chen-xia--In life, she was a powerful sorceress, pride of her clan. Her secret shame, however, was that she was not 'pure' clan; her father had been a traveler from a distant land. At 5'7, she often has had to rely on others to help her out, but her stubborn, quiet pride rarely allows it. Her straight black hair, reaching beyond her waist when down, and her golden (not literally this time) skin bear the marks of her mother's lineage, while her perfectly almond shaped green-fire eyes declare her father's. Quick at fighting and learning, she never neglected to become sensitive to others, especially her lover, Ierne. One of her fortes is drawing emotions out of people with her sarcastic comments. When left to her own devices, she wears decidedly Oriental styled clothing (Mandarin-collared shirts and dresses, anything out of Oriental silk), but she also has a large collection of denim and leather.
Flaming Eagle--In life, she was dedicated into shaman-hood for her tribe. Lithe, strong and intelligent, her only bad point was her temper. After being hung (!!) for attacking a man who came to negotiate with her tribe, she lived on the plane-between life and death, until Meiran, a channeling-warrior accidentally summoned her. She and Meiran became good friends, and teased Wufei more often than not. Being 5'5, she nearly stood eye to eye with him. Her dusty (think medium dark tan) skin and ink black eyes and hair made her seem almost carved of stone. Typically, she has a half-mocking, half-mischievous smile on her face. Of all the girls, she is the trickster, who became infamous for her many jokes. Her hawkish nose and defined cheekbones made her too strong-featured to be pretty, but it didn't matter. Looking at her wardrobe, one might think that they had accidentally opened a storage closet. Her favorite clothes are jeans with a leather jacket and knee-boots with a high heels.
3) This comes up later, but I figured I should explain what Sköll meant when she said "It didn't work." (Rough paraphrase, so sue me.) After Relena had her five 'enforcers' go out to kill Duo, she forgot about them. One afternoon, all five ran into the pilots, and Duo started talking to them. Ierne recognized him as the boy she had seen once. After walking away, the five girls decided that they couldn't kill him--he was too dang cute. So, 'failing' at their mission, they returned to Relena to request return to the afterlife. Relena, of course, spazzes, and stabs Sköll with a consecrated dagger, thinking that that would kill her. Dorothy, seeing her chance, starts an exorcism, trying to destroy Flaming Eagle. Flame, however, had other plans and tore out Dorothy's heart before tearing off her head. (No necromancer can raise *anything* if the connection to the brain and heart is no longer attached.) Chen-xia, realizing that the spell binding them to Relena was broken with her using a consecrated dagger, casts a spell to prevent them from being launched into the deepest level of hell. Then, once (they think) everything has quieted down, Sköll started complaining about leaving Relena alive. In order to quiet the persistant blonde, Akabri agreed and the five re-manifested their physical forms.
No, none of them hook up with the pilots. Remember what Ierne said about dualities? Well, just like Wufei is a duality in and of himself, the girls are also. Each of them has accepted the positive as well as the negative in their "lives".
4) I *really* like a 9x11 pairing. Don't ask why, I just do. Hence why they are in here.
5) Eh, I forgot something. At one time or another, the girls had all seen the pilots, either actually while they were "alive" or before they were summoned. *That* is what Sköll meant--the girls, in order to keep the pilots out of their troubles, erased any and all memories of ever having met from the boys' minds. Unfortunately, it didn't work like it should have.
