Gundam Wing Fan Fiction ❯ Love Thy Enemy ❯ Future Prospects ( Chapter 2 )
Part 2
Four years later . . .
*knockknock*
"Come in, Wufei." Une said, sitting behind her desk in her office at the Preventers' headquarters. she had sent for Wufei an hour ago, and she was surprised it took him so long to get there. It usually only took him a few minutes to get there when she called. Perhaps he knew what she wanted to talk to him about.
"You wanted to see me?" Wufei asked as he stepped into her office, shutting the door. He stood a few feet in front of the door, his uniform in pristine order, as always.
"Yes, about an hour ago. What took so long?" she queried.
"Something came up that needed my immediate attention. I didn't think you'd mind as long as I got here as soon as possible." he explained.
"I see. Well, that's fine." she said shuffling papers on her desk. "Have a seat." she said, indicating a chair in front of her desk. He walked slowly to the chair, as if nervous, and sat down, crossing his legs.
Damn! Why'd he have to do that? Une thought. She moved a few more papers, then set them aside, focusing her attention on Wufei.
"Wufei, how long have we known each other?" she asked, already knowing the answer.
"Four years, or so." he answered.
"And during that time, how many vacations have you had?" Now she was getting to the point.
"None." he said, honestly. He had been trying not to take one, for he wasn't sure what he'd do on one. Sure he could meditate, practice, read, study . . . but even those things became tedious and boring after awhile. That's why he never took more than a few days off at a time. But a vacation? He'd probably go crazy! So he made it a rule to never go on a vacation if he could help it.
"Well, that's going to change. Starting now." Wufei's stomach clenched. "I'm leaving for the Bahamas today, and you're coming with me." Wufei's eyes grew large.
"Wait a minute!" he protested,
"As my bodyguard." she finished. She wished that last part wasn't necessary, but she knew it was only way to get him to come, by ordering him to. Wufei blinked.
"What do you need a bodyguard for?" he asked.
"Recently, I've been receiving these strange letters that could be threatening, if taken in a certain light. I'm not taking any chances." she told him.
"Why can't you get someone else to act as your bodyguard? Why me?" he asked.
"Two reasons, Wufei. One, you're the best. I wouldn't put my life in the hands of just anyone." she said, walking around her desk. "And two," she walked behind Wufei. "you need it." she placed her hands on his shoulders and began massaging them. Wufei melted. He always melts under her touch.
"You're almost 20, Wufei, and you're on the verge of contracting every stress related disorder known to man! And don't deny it, I've checked your physical report." she said, continuing her ministrations to Wufei's muscles. Damnit, onna! How do you do this? Wufei thought. I wonder if all of his muscles are this tight? Damnit, Une! Get your mind out of the gutter! Une thought.
*beeeeep*
Damn! Une and Wufei thought simultaneously. Une walked over to her desk and pressed the intercom button.
"What is it?" she asked.
"There's a gentleman here to see you. He says he's an old friend." a female voice said.
"Alright, send him in." Une said, disappointedly. The door opened to reveal none other than Zechs Marquise.
"Zechs! What are you doing here?" Une asked with a smile.
"I'm here to visit an old friend!" he said, giving her a brief hug.
"How's Noin? Is she here, too?" she asked.
"She's fine. She's due in about 6 months, which is why she decided to stay behind." he explained.
"Zechs, you old dog! Congratulations!" Une said, beaming at the father to be.
"Don't congratulate me, she's doing all the hard work!"
"What are you doing here when she's expecting? Shouldn't you be up there with her?" Une asked.
"Yes, I should. But I needed to attend to some business here, and she insisted I come. I think she needed the space." he explained.
"Hello, Zechs." Wufei said.
"Wufei? What are you doing here?" Zechs asked.
"I work here." Wufei replied.
"I meant, why are you here in this lovely lady's office? Did you get in trouble?" Zechs asked with a wink. Wufei smirked.
"Not yet. Just wait." Zechs turned to Une.
"Are we sure that's Wufei?" he asked her. She giggled.
"Yes, that's Wufei! He's just not happy about his next assignment. I've commissioned him as my bodyguard while I'm the Bahamas for my vacation." she explained.
"Let me get this straight, Wufei. You're going to the Bahamas, with a beautiful woman, and you're getting paid to do so, and you're not happy about it?" Zechs said.
"Yes." Wufei stated.
"Are you insane?!? This is a dream come true, for most men! What the hell is wrong?" Zech's yelled, shaking Wufei by the shoulders. Une covered her mouth as she tried not to laugh at the exchange.
"I'm not most men!" Wufei shouted back when Zechs had stopped.
"He's suppose to be on vacation, too. It was the only way I could get him to go on one. And besides, this way I'll make sure he relaxes and has fun!" Une explained.
"You make sure you do! He needs it! I've got to run, I'll see you later." Zechs said, giving Une a kiss on the cheek before dashing off. After he left, Une turned back to Wufei.
"Our plane leaves in two hours, we better get you packed!" she said.
"We?" he asked.
"Yes, we! I'm not letting you wear a uniform while we're there! Too conspicuous and uncomfortable! Now let's go!" she hauled him out of the chair and dragged him out of her office, heading for his place.
