Gundam Wing Fan Fiction ❯ Love Will Prevail ❯ I Remember... ( Chapter 1 )
Love will prevail
`Chapter One - I remember`
Indigo eyes watched the luminous screen intently. The blinking lights and the familiar sounds he grinned. He was now locked upon the target he had been trailing. "Come on…Come on…" He mumbled to himself, setting his sights upon it. "You won't get this colony!" A shout of brief triumph as the golden beam shot to the enemy he had been tracking. The fire should have hit the mark, as it did, but something he didn't expect was about to happen.
How I wish I could walk through that door…
See your beautiful face once more…
The Gundam he'd just fired at fired back. A quick retaliation of its part. As soon as the deep scarlet Gundam burst into oblivion he had caught what had happened. He should've been able to move, but he couldn't. He just fired his last beam. And if he moved now the colony he had been defending would be destroyed. "I…I'm sorry, Hilde." He grumbled, but as it had before, the small smile broke through. "The God of Death has defended you as much as he could. I'm glad you'll live on." He couldn't block, he knew, the onyx wings that once graced his Gundam had been blown away in the huge battle he recently fought. Too many Gundams to count had been destroyed and what should have been the last decided to take him with 'em. "Live for me, Hilde." He said briefly as he saw the light, the heat of the beam upon him. His eyes grew wide reflecting all they saw.
I love you darling…
I'm sorry I never said it before…
He didn't know why but everything stood still. In suspended animation he was caught in the wall of time. Memories flashing before his widened eyes. Thoughts of his only friends, the certain pilot that shaped his life. Memories of a certain girl he would never see again. How he defended this colony, her colony. He never told her how he felt and feared he never could. How he wished he could see her one last time. He knew only in memory he could now. Watching his past, his future, and his life flash before his optics of cold blue.
How cold my life had been…
The frayed cards that never left my hand…
The jester face I kept held so long…
I wish to only tell you…
For so long tell you my song of love I pledge so dear…
~`~ Memories/Events up to the accident he remembers… ~`~
Soft rays of morning light filtered through the solitary glass windowpane. Luminating all darkness that once held the small room in gloom. One of the dual lumps upon the bed began to stir as the chiming clock upon the oaken stand kept its annoying song. It told all in its crimson numbers it was eight fifty nine. A solitary hand crept from the wadded mess to slam upon the obsidian box that kept the noise. The soft sound of the woman's voice called to him, "Duo, what time is it?" He sighed, burying his head in his fluffed up pillow hoping to leave the question be. He didn't feel like waking up so soon. He merely mumbled into the soft sanctuary. "Duo…" She mumbled groggily as she rolled over to him. The two had merely been living together in her home. However it only had one bedroom, both decided to share the bed however gave eachother a lot of room as to not make eachother to uncomfortable. If only each knew their true desires. "What time…" She yawned, resting her head down as well, blankets blocking her vision of the clock.
He snorted awake again as an expert hand smacked the back of his head, causing his braid to become even messier. "Eight…somfin." He grumbled, rolling over to face the ceiling, knowing he had to wake up now.
How many times had I had the chance to say my feelings?
How many chances did you give me when I didn't know the answers?
How many times did I take you for granted…?
I'm sorry, if I could do this over, baby; I would never hurt you again…
"Eight?!" She yelped, quickly getting from her spot upon the silken mattress. "NO! It's almost nine!" Yes, this started every morning with her ver-sleeping companion. She had just gotten a job and every day she'd been late. Sure, she'd only been working for three days now but still this didn't look good for her.
As always, he snapped awake from her shouting as she quickly ran around the room trying to find everything she needed in the mess they called a bedroom. "Sorry, Hilde." Was his decent reply but she had no time to tell him a response as she ran downstairs. He knew he had to get up now or face the worst of it later. So, getting from his bed, feet set upon the cold wood floor as he padded to the closet she had been in not too long ago. Putting on the familiar priest garb and setting slowly downstairs. "Hilde?" He asked softly, coming around the corner to the kitchen. He stifled a chuckle as he watched her trying her best to button up her blouse and tame her messy locks of indigo, as well as eat the butter toast in her mouth at the same time. "Let me help…" He sighed, going over and buttoning her collar as she tamed her locks.
"Least you can do after you made me late…again." She spat coldly as his once triumphant grin of taming her collar went into a pleading smile.
"Well, your job makes you go too early." He tried a defense.
"Duo…It's not too early, you always had to go early when you had that war to take care of." She mumbled.
"Yeah yeah…But it's over. Well…Tuned down a bit, and Heero and Wufei take up slack now." He said matter-of-factly.
"I know…," She said fondly looking to him. 'And I'm glad you don't have to go to battle anymore.' "OH! I gotta go!" She yelped, running out the door, a simple wave set his way as he matched it.
"Hilde you work too hard…To keep up our lousy shack of a home." He sighed, sitting upon the couch, a shiny red apple in hand. He thought to do something nice for her, he remembered all the things she'd done for him. Including feeding him, and taking him under her roof. Yes, he needed to thank her. After the months, she's sheltered him he needed to do something special for her. He smirked, idea in thought as he headed out the door. Making sure she was long gone before he stepped out. He would give her a night to remember. A hand sunk into his pocket, making sure his money was there as he walked down the dirtied streets. A bite being taken from his crimson coated treasure. "I'll do somethin' for you this time, Hilde. Just you watch…" He smiled, continuing his way to deeper into the city.
