Lullaby

Disclaimer: I don't own the Gundam Wing Characters. This is for fun and non-profit making so please don't sue me. The only character that I own is Juno.

Warning: There is a small amount of Shounen ai in this, if you don't like that than don't read.

Heero, Duo, and Juno sat lazily on the couch in the family room of their house. They were all exhausted; Heero and Duo had taken the day off from work and told Juno that they would do anything (almost anything) that she wanted. She certainly took them at their word and took them on a fun, but exhausting trip all around the area where they lived.

Juno had never been shy about saying what she wanted and this time was no different. First they went to the zoo and wandered around terrorizing the poor animals or that is to say the Juno scared them with her wild enthusiasm. After that they went to a movie. Juno and Duo spent most of the movie hyper from the sugar rush they got from eating too much candy.

That was just what they did before noon. For lunch they ate a picnic lunch in a nearby park. Juno managed to start a game of tag with the other children in the area, which turned in to a war between the girls and the boys. The girls won, because well they had Juno and really Juno is an army all on her own. After that bit of fun Juno told her Daddies where she wanted to go next: the amusement park.

The rest of the day was spent riding exceedingly fast rides and eating too much sugar. Juno loved it, Duo had a great time, and even Heero was able to relax a bit.
Though, Heero did occasionally scare some people nearly to death when he turned his Death Glare on them when they made too much noise.

All in all it was a great day. Now the three just sat and enjoyed staying in one place for more then a minute.

Juno, who was sitting snuggled between Heero and Duo, bit her lip trying to decide if she should ask her Daddy a question that she had been curious about for a while. Today when she was out with her Daddies she had seen kids with their grandparents. Heero had never really talked about his own parents and she was curious to know something about them. She just wasn't sure if she should ask. There were times when she had asked Heero a question and he would answer but, he had a saddest look on his face when he did it. She didn't want to make her Daddy sad.

Juno decided that she should just ask him, if her Daddy didn't answer her it would not hurt her feelings.

“Daddy, I know Duo is an orphan, but I was wondering if you could tell me about your parents? Please!” Juno asked, though she was not sure if Heero would reply.

Heero glanced at her for a moment, but he didn't say anything. Heero looked away from her and stared ahead, Juno could see that sad look on his face again. She felt really bad about that, she hated to make her Daddy sad.

Duo looked curiously at Heero; he didn't know if his lover would answer the question. Truthfully, Duo had never really though about asking Heero about his family. Duo didn't remember his so he would not think to ask about it.

The silence went on for a few minutes and Juno thought that Heero was not going to say anything.

“I never knew my father, he died before I was born,” it was said so softly that at first Juno wasn't sure that he had said anything at all.

He continued after a slight pause, “I only vaguely remember my mother; she died when I was very young. I only remember a few things about her. She had long black hair and Prussian blue eyes.” Heero stopped speaking again and he looked down at Juno. His eyes had a faraway look to them, like it wasn't really her that he was looking at.

“You look very much like her, Juno, except fort he hair,” Heero smiled sadly and continued softly, “She smelled like roses, I think it was her favorite flower. She also sang very beautifully. She used to sing me several lullabies to help me get to sleep. I only remember one, it was my favorite. ”

Juno and Duo looked at Heero, they were afraid that if they said anything he would stop. It was rare for them to hear Heero speak that much, especially about himself.

“What was the lullaby?” Juno asked quietly, afraid to break the mood.

I don't remember the name,” was all Heero said. Duo and Juno thought that would be the end of the conversation, but Heero surprised them by what he said next.

“I can sing it for you if you want me to.” Duo and Juno couldn't help but stare in shock for a moment, though after that they were quick to say that they wanted to hear the lullaby. So Heero sang it.

“If only, if only, the moon makes no reply
Reflecting the sun and all that's gone by
Be strong my weary wolf, turn `round boldly
Fly high my baby bird, my angel my only.”

Heero continued to hum some sort of verse to the lullaby. Juno and Duo just sat and stared at him. Neither of them had known that he could sing, let alone that he could do it well. His smooth, rich tenor voice was pleasant and relaxing to listen to as they sat there.

Heero continued to hum and Juno started to nod off. She was tired and the lullaby was doing its job well. She snuggled closer to Heero and she was soon fast asleep. Her last thought before she went to sleep was: I hope Daddy will sing again some time. I would love that.

Duo wasn't doing much better; he was exhausted after running around with Juno all day. To say that she was very energetic was a bit of an understatement. Duo smiled sleepily and thought: Heero certainly has a lot of surprises. Duo too was soon asleep.

Heero continued to humming to the end of the song. He soon finished and turned to Juno and Duo. He was about to say something, but stopped when he realized that both of them had fallen asleep. Juno was curled up against him and Duo was sitting limply on the couch snoring lightly. Heero smile slightly at his daughter and lover. He laid back and decided that he could use a bit of rest too.

Wing walked into the family room looking for her humans, none of them had come to bed. She saw them all sleeping on the couch. Well, if they would not come to her she would go to them. She jumped up into Heero's lap purring and then she too went to sleep.

The End

Note: I did not write the lullaby that Heero sings. It is from Holes by Louis Sachar.

To Be continued in: Juno and Take Your Child to Work Day. The Preventers can handle terrorists easily, as for Juno, well, they won't know what hit them.
