Chapter 21:
“Who made this?” Zech questioned.
“Raven Sengoku.” Heero answered watching the other man carefully. For some reason he didn’t feel that sharing his findings was a good idea. “So do you know anything about it?” He asked in an attempt to move the blonde’s analysis along faster.
Zech only ‘hmmed’ thoughtfully twisting the star in the light coming off the fire. Without a second thought, he threw it into the fire. The paper literally screamed as its white surface began to burn and curl in the heat. “It’s nothing.” He said quickly. His eyes watched dispassionately as the paper continued to burn.
“So you don’t know what it was?” Heero questioned one last time. He too watched the paper shriveling into an ashen husk. Zech shook his head once again. “Well, okay.” Slowly, the Japanese teen left the lobby sparing a short look over his shoulder.
Zech watched the boy go. When he was sure the youth was well on his way back to the school, he squatted reaching into the flames. The orange heat licked at his pale skin with little to no effect. The slender appendage wrapped carefully around the husk and lifted it. What was left of the paper flaked under the light pressure. When it was cleared of the flames, white flames danced above it.
“So we’ve found you,” Zech said softly to himself.

Heero walked dejectedly back towards the school building. Strangely enough being alone for the first time that day was awkward for him and being the antisocial butterfly he was, it didn't make sense to him. Shrugging the feeling off, he continued walking across the front yard of the school passing the statue.
He tensed and jumped as he watched the statue turn its head watching him as he walked by. Its stone eyes blinked slowly at him. Slowly, it smiled at him and nodded before resuming its position. Unconscioiusly, Heero stopped and bowed to the statue the way he'd bow to his grandparents in Hong Kong. When he straightened, he walked a little faster to the school. Outside the school was stranger than inside the school.
Inside, everything was changed around to look similiar to the hotel he'd just left. There was a lobby with a fire crackling warmly inside. Students littered the sofas chatting lightly to each other about their classes and the day's events.
"Oh, Heero." Heero cringed at the high pitched voice calling him. Reluctantly, he turned to face the source of the irritating sound. Relena stood dressed in an all pink pajama set. The outfit hugged to her curves nicely. "Look, I'm back to normal isn't it wonderful?" She announced striking a pose.
"How?" Heero asked not believing the girl actually stopped acting like a jackass.
"Well, there was this nerd that dropped her books and I helped her pick them up and offered to give her a make over. She's a nice girl really. I wonder if all geeks are nice. Oh, well, not like I'm going to find out for myself." She shrugged.
Heero mentally rolled her eyes. So she did a bit of a good deed and the spell wore off. Maybe they didn't put enough eye of newt into the potion after all. "Well, I have to go, Relena." He said nodded curtly. He started to turn away when Relena caught his arm.
"Why don't you come hang with me and my friends. It must be terrible having to hang out with those outcast."
Heero took his arm away slowly giving the girl a level look. "I'm happy with the friend I have." He said firmly. "Now...I have to go." He turned away ignoring anything else the blonde had to say. Honestly, why was she even going to this school?
In minutes, he found himself heading towards the library. The hallways were spacious with victorian styled painting decortating the walls. He looked at each one absently admiring the brush strokes and use of color and contrast. Finally, he stopped in front of the opened double doors of the library.
The large book room seemed to be a little out of place. Books floated in utter chaos over head while the floor was covered with tables and chairs to be sat at and in. How was he suppose to find something to read now?
"Do you have a book you want to read, young man?"
Heero turned towards the voice slowly finding no one he could see.
"Ahem, down here."
Heero looked down find a worm the size of Wing Zero at his feet. It was green and similiar to the bookworm featured in most of the Looney Tunes. On its round yellow nose was a pair of thin wire glasses. Around its neck was a bright blue tie.
"Do you have anything you're looking for?"
"Just something interesting to read." Heero said slowly. No sooner had he said the words a roar filled the room. The books over head lowered quickly tumbling over each other. Heero tensed and braced himself. The books stopped inches away from him forming a tight circle around him.
"I'm sorry, all of these books seem to think that they're interesting to read." The worm said. "Please be more specific."
"Uh...Mystery." Heero picked a random subject. Most of the books turned dejectedly in midair before returning to their highpoint overhead. There were still over thirty books left. "Umm....Horror/Mystery." More books left leaving twelve. "Over two hundred pages and in first person." Two books were left.
"You're good." The worm said readjusting it glasses. "My name is Gregory, I'm the librarian here." As he spoke he reached for one of the books still present. Heero grabbed for the next one. "Okay, you have Laurel Hamilton's Lunatic Cafe and another book by her, my personal favorite, Blue Moon. Which one would you like?" Gregory turned inching his body towards a large desk positioned off to the side.
"Uhh..I'll take both of them." Heero followed along side the worm finding the librarian just as fast as he was.
"Do you have a library card?"
"No."
"Okay." Gregory paused in front of the desk and sighed. "They always move it." He grumbled to himself and looked around him. When he didn't seem to find what he was looking for he blushed and looked to Heero. "Could you...uh..do you mind?"
Heero smiled softly and bent to lift the worm onto the desk.
"Thank you very much." Gregory moved across his desk reaching into one of the opened drawers. He pulled out a card and a small pin. "Now this is considered dark magic because we use blood to do it. Do you have any problems with that?" Heero shook his head. "Okay. Not that we bookworms are evil, its just faster than having you fill out a form by hand. Prick your finger on this please."
Heero did as he was told. The prick was small and only hurt for a second.
"Now place your finger on this paper." Gregory placed the card sized paper on the desk and waited. Heero pressed his finger to the paper and waited. When he lifted it there was a small blotch of his blood on the paper. Slowly the blotch spread and separated slowly forming words. "You have a level three clearance very rare for a newbie." The worm commented. He nodded and handed the card to Heero. "The book is due in two weeks. Please remember this because the books have a habit of returning themselves after a long time. I can't tell you how man reports of ripped bookbags and broken lockers we have had because people didn't want to turn their books back on time."
Heero nodded muttering a quick thank you. He left the library. He had a choice between sitting and reading the book or to find something else to do. He settled on finding his room and finding out how it looked.
